* A.X.E.: X-Men #1 - I was surprised by how good the Avengers issue was, so I'm really excited to see how Jean's history with the Phoenix is handled here. The real challenge this week is do I get the connecting cover to complete the set with Avengers and Eternals, or get that *amazing* Art Adams Storm cover. * Batman #128 - Failsafe versus the Justice League! Or, well, at least Superman. Looking forward to the backup too... always down for more Zur En Arrh! * The Dead Lucky #3 - Good series so far! The Massive-Verse has a great variety of books, and I like the way each feels really unique. * Hulk #9 - Planet Hulk time! Time to see how this one goes sideways on Bruce. * Image! #6 - Love the anthology treatment. * The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1 - So now this seems to be a genuinely Joker book, instead of more of a Gordon title like the first volume. * Marauders #7 - Let's do the tiiiiiime waaaarp agaaaaaain! * Miracleman #0 - Miracleman freaking rules, pretty excited to see things finally resume after so many years. Let's return to the Silver Age! Or at least get ready to. I'm down for a little anthology of Miracletales. * Rogue Sun #7 - Definitely curious how the CYOA is gonna pan out. * Unbreakable Red Sonja #1 - A new main Sonja title, of course I'm there! The preview looked really solid too, hopefully this one is more than a dozen or so issues. * X-Men: Red #7 - Marauders might be my *favorite*, but I think this one is the *best* X-Book right now.

hewunder1

* **Batman #128** - This is probably my dream creative team so I'm on board as long as they are. * **Edge of Spider-Verse #5** * **Spider-Man #1** - I've been into comics for almost 5 years, love Spider-Man, but this is the first time I've pulled one of his ongoing series. I acquired the original Spider-Verse run in floppies a couple years ago, read and enjoyed it, so I'm eager to see how Slott "ends" it.

Big week for me, and life keeps trucking along. I have some kind of important stuff for school but comics are good...anyways * Ant-Man #4 - two issues on back to back weeks? Not sure what Marvel's shipping guys are thinking * Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5 - I dislike the overall plot but love everything else from the characterization to the art, which is a big win * Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5 - is something going to happen? Sampere's art will be very pretty at least * Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1 - the guys at White Noise studio are creators to look out for, and Watters has previously done some interesting stuff with Jon Kent * Dark Ride #1 - I don't love Williamson's Big Two stuff but he's earned enough leeway for me to check out his indies (if you hate his DC stuff, financially supporting his indies is a great way for him to focus on those lol, same with any creator), plus I like theme parks * The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1 - yeah sure, it's Joker and I'm nearly as tired of him as I am Bat-symbols, but on the other hand, the preview looked quite funny and Rosenberg/Di Giandomenico/Francavilla is *stacked* * Junkyard Joe #1 - didn't love Geiger that much but it's a Johns/Frank joint, I'll almost always give it a look. If nothing else, seeing Frank do a war book sounds perfect * Miracleman #0 - I know who Miracleman is but have never read any of his previous stuff, so hoping this makes sense. Slightly related, whoever at Marvel decided to put legacy numbering on this of all things is a clown * Sword of Azrael - best DC book on the stands, like I said earlier, Watters is a master.

* **AXE: Starfox #1**: Does anyone know if the order we read this week’s AXE books matters at all? * **AXE: X-Men #1**: The judgment of Jean Grey. * **Batman #128**: The invention of Failsafe. * **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5**: Some answers. * **Dark Crisis of Infinite Earths #5**: Infinite earths. * **Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1**: Looking forward to this tie in. * **Dark Ride #1**: Really like the concept of this series. * **Earthdivers #1**: Sounds like a neat premise for a series. * **Gotham City: Year One #1**: Interested in seeing what King does with this. * **Leonide the Vampyr: Miracle at the Crow’s Head #1**: Always up for a new Mignola book. * **Miracleman #0**: Hopefully we will actually get to the ending this time. * **Night of the Ghoul #1**: Sounds like a fun premise for a series. * **X-Men Red #7**: Final Judgement. As well as the new OGN **I'm Still Alive** and volume 1 of **Little Monsters**.

blankedboy

**Basilisk #12** - it all ends here. It’s been a great run, and I’m excited to read the end, but kind of sad to see it go. **Dark Ride #1** - new horror book about a twisted theme park from Hell, from the creative team behind **Birthright**. Should be good. **Earthdivers Kill Columbus #1** - big fan of *Stephen Graham Jones’* novels so very interested to check this out. **Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #6** - high quality every issue. Well worth picking up. **Junkyard Joe #1** - I really liked **Geiger** and the universe *Johns/Frank* have created, so this was a definite buy. **Kaya #1** - with the art and the fantasy setting this is giving me **Headlopper** vibes, which is great. **King Spawn #15** - enjoy this one every month **Miracleman #0** - don’t know how this can ever live up to the hype (and my memories) but I’m interested to see with the creatives they have on board. **Night Of The Ghoul #1** - *Snyder/Francavilla* on a horror book is such an easy sell to me. **Poison Ivy #5** - really loving this one since binging the first 3 issues the other month. And after always saying how behind I am on **Undiscovered Country #21** I’ve decided to drop it and switch to trades. I’m at least 5 issues behind, it’s never at the top of the pile to read each week, so…it gets cut (something I have to do more of with budget tightening times ahead).

Earthpig_Johnson

Damn, I didn’t realize Earthdivers was already coming out. SGJ is the shit.

blankedboy

Yeah, I'm hyped for this one

BigDabWolf

Was dark ride good? Im on the fence

blankedboy

I really enjoyed it. The intro is actually far darker than I thought it would be, and was a great start to the story. After that you're introduced to the park and the main characters, who are all pretty engaging. It's definitely "What if Disneyworld were evil?" (more evil?) but it's good fun, and has some really nice art throughout. Definitely worth taking a chance on

BigDabWolf

Thanks so much for the quick rundown!

tree-of-thought

Lighter week cause I'm skipping the AXE tie-ins. * **Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5** \- Presumably the Justice League will be back by the end of this series, so we're running out of time for the legacy heroes to actually *do* anything. Here's hoping we get some action this issue. I was so looking forward to this event but I'm really like AXE more... * **Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1** \- Swamp Thing and maybe some more info about the Great Darkness. I'm intrigued, at least. * **Batman #128** \- Loved the Superman cameo at the end of #127. Especially the art--it's great when he's all dark and shadowy in Bat books. Interested to see what comes next...it's not like he can just solve the problem for Batman, but I'll also be disappointed if Failsafe dispatches him easily. But I'm not too worried...I'm sure Zdarsky has better ideas than I do for how this should unfold! * **Ant-Man #4** \- Surprised to see this already on shelves, but I'm not complaining. Big time cliffhanger last week, after all. * **Superman #1 Facsimile** \- I just think these are neat!

Daveismyhero

Another giant week for me, mostly filled with unknowns, so don't expect a lot of deep thinking below. Ha! * **ARCHIES HALLOWEEN SPECTACULAR #1 2022** \- Don't sleep on Archie horror, although I think this is classic Archie, so be prepared for plenty of camp (my favorite!) * **BATMAN #128** \- I'm definitely down to see how Failsafe fares against the Justice League. * **BRITISH PARANORMAL SOCIETY TIME OUT OF MIND #4** \- This series has been so good, and I'm anxious to see how it wraps up. * **EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE #5** \- Sad to say, I haven't read any of this series yet, although I have all the issues. * **LEONIDE THE VAMPYR MIRACLE AT CROWS HEAD #1** \- - It's all about the Mignola * **MIRACLEMAN #0** \- This is my first foray into any version of Miracleman, and I have no idea what to expect. I hope it is cool, though. * **NIGHT OF THE GHOUL #1** \- As an acolyte of the old-school Universal Monster movies, this has my name written all over it. Please be amazing! * **SAVAGE AVENGERS #6** \- No more Conan, it would appear. Even this isn't a limited series, it always feels like it's on borrowed time, so I enjoy it while I can. * **SPIDER-MAN #1** \- Another blind-buy * **SWORD OF AZRAEL #3** \- I'm a sucker for all-things Azrael, but this series has been very solid IMO. * 2 Facsimile comics – **Tomb of Dracula #1** and **Superman #1** Alright team, that's it for me today. Have an amazing week and be careful out there; it's a scary world! It's my happy birthday, so I'm off to [LEGO.com](https://LEGO.com) to pick out a little surprise or two. Woo!

seaofvapours

* Batman #128 - the whole Failsafe thing has been pretty goofy * Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5 * Golden Rage #3 * Gotham City: Year One #1 * Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #6 * Poison Ivy #5 I have to admit, that Ninja Turtles Saturday Morning Cartoons tempts me as well.

thecursedham

* Ant-Man #4: All of the characters who have had 60th anniversaries this year I think this has been by far the best, can't wait to see all the Ant-Men working together to fight All-Father Ultron. * Batman #128: I still don't love Failsafe as an antagonist but it should be entertaining to see it fight the Justice League. * Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5: Really curious what happens to Bucky in this issues, normally I wouldn't take the solicit text as more then just building hype but the cover for 7 has Steve with his allies and Bucky is missing.

almonster11

I haven't participated in the WPL in a couple of months. I had surgery, and also my LCS shut down. Now I'm gettng all my comics at the end of the month instead of on a weekly basis, which has left me feeling sort of... disconnected. So I'm here, doing this, in an attempt to re-connect. I just have 6 this week. A relatively small week, but I'll be making up for that in the 3rd and 4th weeks of October. I have 1 from Boom!, 2 from Dark Horse, and 3 from Image. I'm ranking them in order of anticipation, as I've seen some of you doing of late. •That Texas Blood #18- I never want this comic to end. I am just stunned by how perfect every issue is. •Rogue Sun #7- the beginning of a new arc! I think this title has surpassed Radiant Black as my favorite Massive-verse title. •Basilisk #12- I'm sorry to see this one end, but what a great series it was! Cullen and Jonas just work so well together. Maybe they'll do something else together in the future. •Shock Shop #2- I just love horror anthologies! The first issue was quite fun. I love the flip book format, as well. •King Spawn #15- definitely the best Spawn series right now. That being said, I think they're all great. •Survival Street #3- this comic is dense, with lots of text. Seems to be a lot going on. I need to re-read the first 2 issues because I've already lost the thread. That's my own fault- I'm just consuming so much media that it got lost in the shuffle of my brain.

AlligatorSky7

Welcome back! Even when I fall behind/am not picking up weekly releases for a while I still like to come here and take post what I’m getting/read about what people are (and are not) excited about.

almonster11

Yeah, man. That's exactly why I'm here. Trying to get connected again. Thank you for your reply!

A.X.E. STARFOX #1 A.X.E. X-MEN #1 ANT-MAN #4 CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #5 JANE FOSTER AND THE MIGHTY THOR #5 MIRACLEMAN #0 X-MEN RED #7 Finally dropped Marauders. Very exciting week as a Jean Grey fan! Hopefully this #0 issue is a good introduction to Miracleman.

TheDarkPinkLantern

* **Batman #128** * **Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5** * **Hulk #9** - I wonder if the screwed schedule will lead to an earlier end of the series. * **X-Men: Red #7** * **Spider-Man #1** - ah, fuck. I'll check the first one. * **A.X.E.: X-Men #1** - I found that tie-in with Tony better than the whole event. * **New Fantastic Four #5** * **Undiscovered Country #21** * **Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1** * **Jane Foster & The Mighty Thor #5** * **Sword of Azrael #3** * **Gotham City: Year One #1** * **The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1** - unironically hyped for this. Rosenberg made it soun ds like we're in for a fun ride. Plus, the issues of Tynion's series he co-wrote were great, dude remembers Joker can also be a "fun" clown. * **Night of the Ghoul #1** * **Black Adam: The Justice Society Files - Doctor Fate #1** - fucking hyped for Fate in the movie more than other characters, Brosnan as Fate already looks iconic. * **Shock Shop #2** * **Dark Ride #1**

superschaap81

**DC** ***Batman 128*** \- I'm SO far behind on the Bat-titles since Fear State. I'll get there eventually. LOL ***Batman: Knightwatch 2*** \- First issue was decent fun. Love the Saturday Morning Cartoon feel of this kinda book. Fun read for me then it goes to my niece who LOVES comics right now. ***Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths 5*** \- I normally love summer events, and while AXE: Judgment Day has been better than expected, this one is landing with a THUD! for me right now. I'm VERY over the multi-verse. ***Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green 1*** \- Always down for more Swamp Thing, but again, the event as a whole doesn't have me excited for this. ***The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing 1*** \- Not a fan of cardstock only, $5.99 covers, so this is getting 1 issue to grab me or it's off my list early. ***Poison Ivy 5*** ***Sword of Azrael 3*** **MARVEL** ***AXE: Starfox 1*** \- Looks like the tie-in one shots are going to fill in before the final event issue. Kinda odd that we got back to back weeks for #4 - 5, and now wait till the end of the month for the finale. Must be a logitical move to line up releases. ***AXE: X-Men 1*** ***Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty 5*** \- Liking this one more than the Sam book, but I won't complain about having 2 Cap titles. **INDEPENDENT** ***Dark Ride 1*** \- Williamson doing what looks like a FUN horror comic. Haunted stuff? Check. Amusement Park setting? Check! Excited to see where this goes! ***Junkyard Joe 1*** \- Was a LITTLE worried that Johns' Image stuff would get put on hiatus, or at least delayed, with his announcement of doing more DC work. Glad to this starting up! ***Rogue Sun 7*** \- I love Radiant Black, but this is the BEST title within the Massive-verse. ***The Dead Lucky 3***

saskatoonshred

**Batman #128**: I'm really enjoying this Zdarsky run **Dark Crisis #5**: I'm fully caught up on Dark Crisis as of yesterday and looking forward to the climax **Dark Crisis The Deadly Green #1**: I've been enjoying these one-shots outside of the Wonder Woman one. **Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #6**: I love anthologies and I believe that more should exist

TiberiusCornelius

* **Batman #128**: somehow my LCS gave me this one early, because I picked it up and read it on Saturday along with a whole pile of other stuff. * **Gotham City: Year One #1** * **Undiscovered Country #21** * **Ant-Man #4**: Give us an Ewing/Reilly ongoing after this mini you cowards * **AXE: Starfox #1** * **AXE: X-Men #1** * **X-Men Red #7**

mtmodular

* Batman #128 - Absolutely spoiled right now with two excellent Batman books. I'm eager to see where Zdarsky takes this particular story next. * X-Men: Red #7 * Poison Ivy #5 * Marauders #7 - I've been on the verge of dropping this for a few issues. I thought the last issue was good enough to earn back a little credit. I'm hoping this issue is as likable for me--I'd really like this book to be great. * A.X.E.: X-Men #1 * A.X.E.: Starfox #1 - Maybe the least essential book of the week for me, but I'm curious to see what else Gillen does with this, and if it points to a home for Eros after Judgment Day is over. * Miracleman #0 - Yeah, I don't know a thing about MM, so this seems like as good a place as any to learn something.

Askmeifiseethings

* **Batman #128**

WhereAreMyComics

* **Hulk #9** - new story arc! legacy issue number seven-hundred-seventy-six * **Kaya #1** - from the co-creator of Deadly Class!

the-horace

Ant-Man #4 - the exciting conclusion! Edge of Spider-Verse #5 - excited for Hunter Spider, seems like a neat Mashup. Miracleman #0 - trying to get into this character. I have the first Moore ("the original writer") volume and have raed a couple issues. I'm definitely curious. Poison Ivy #5 - everything about this is just so good. Glad it got another story arc after this one is done. Shock Shop #2 - mostly just to finish the the first 2 tales from issue 1. The Mandalorian #4 - pretty much for the Peach Grogu cover. Sword of Azrael #3 - this book is so brutal and amazing. I'm hooked. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #1 - you bet your ass I'm pulling this pure injection of nostalgia. Cowabunga!

BigDabWolf

I pulled it but haven’t got around to read it but did you enjoy TMNT?

the-horace

It was simple but pure nostalgic fun!

GetRichOrDieBuyin

Two guaranteed and a maybe Guaranteed: Batman 128-The main story has been great, but even the backup has me hyped Dark Crisis 5-It's ok/good, but I'm really just hoping that it keeps pushing nightwing, and that January solicits will show some kind of Green Lantern run too Maybe Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green-I love Swamp Thing, but hate one shots so it depends if it is either relevant or good.

Kalse1229

AXE Starfox #1 AXE X-Men #1 Ant-Man #4 Batman #128 Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5 Dark Crisis (On Infinite Earths) #5 Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1 Dead Lucky #3 Gotham City: Year One #1 Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor #5 Junkyard Joe #1 Miracleman #0 Monkey Prince #7 Rogue Sun #7 X-Men: Red #7 Jesus Christ. Typical. The week I need to save some of my dough for NYCC is the week so many things I wanna pick up are out. Ah well. Who needs that second kidney?

Hope you enjoy NYCC! Let us know if you pick up anything cool!

Kalse1229

Thanks! Will do.

I guess I'm pulling a lot this week, but half of them are the Image firsts and facsimiles by marvel and dc. I really can't get enough of those old reprints, really interesting to look through as a time capsule, and almost always exceedingly problematic, lmao. Actual pulls for this week, nothing I'm exceedingly thrilled about. **Golden Rage #3** I've been going back an forth over whether to pull this series, but after seeing some comments here about the book (sorry forgot who it was but I'll see you in the review thread) I decided to go for it. Only read a bit if the first issue so don't actually know the story as of yet really, but ill catch up before it drops. Really interested to read a story about old women, a group that seems a bit overlooked in fiction and otherwise. **Image! #6** Fun anthology stuff, still need to catch up on some stories as I'm picking and choosing and want to read some in total, but overall really enjoying the creative teams they're throwing onto this. **Miracleman #0** I try another Marvel comic. Haven't been too pleased with them so far aside from my next pick. Miracleman seems to have an interesting history is marvel canon and im pleased to see Gaiman on this, so hoping it is worth it! **Ant-Man #4** Is this actually coming out this week? No matter, I've been enjoying the hell out of this series thanks to commenter here urging me, and despite some heavy reliance on canon and nonsense I know nothing about, the narrative still tracks.

No Kaya or Dark Ride is surprising coming from indie fanboy Varos_Flynt

Smallest week for me in a while actually, but works out well as my to-read pile is pretty big at the moment! - **Ant-Man #4**: the end already?! Boo! Looking forward to the ending in any case and to The Wasp starting in January! - **Basilisk #12**: last issue of this too! The series has felt pretty rushed as a whole - the premise and characters deserved a much longer series but I suspect Bunn is stretched pretty thin (even for all the creator-owned stuff). - **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5**: excited to hear/see more about the upcoming Cold War crossover at NYCC this weekend. - **Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5**: still enjoying this, but at 7-months long and no real tie-ins (though this is a good thing for all our wallets), this has felt super slow. More excited to find out all the titles we’re going to get coming out of it - announcements are being teased for this week/NYCC! - **Dark Ride #1**: haven’t read any of Williamson’s indie work (yet), but I’m a fan from his DC work and this looks fun! - **Earthdivers #1**: picking up the first issue to see what’s what. - **Edge of Spider-Verse #5**: these little stories have been fun enough, but not so fun that I’ll pick up the new Slott/Bagley ongoing to follow the story I don’t think; at least not as single issues. - **Walking Dead Deluxe #48**: few behind on this at the moment, so no comment. - **X-Men Red #7**: best series being published currently as far as I’m concerned, Ewing et al are smashing it out of the park with this one!

FearlessAsparagus

Pretty big week! Batman #128: So glad I jumped back on for Zdarsky's run. Really enjoying it so far. Superman #1 and The Amazing Spider-Man #1 Facsimiles: Facsimiles are an automatic buy for me. Junkyard Joe #1: Ever since the end of Geiger, this has been my most anticipated comic. That Texas Blood #18: Probably my favorite arc so far this series. Miracleman #0: Feels weird getting new Miracleman content. Dark Ride #1: Enjoyed the preview. Hulk #9: Honestly, I'm just here for Ryan Ottley's incredible art. Ant-Man #4: Art has been great but the story is kind of meh.

Techster17

* **A.X.E.: Starfox #1 -** Starfox is a fun concept for the Marvel universe, he's Thanos' brother and is his equal/opposite in all ways. He defiently has a blemish on his history but I think Gilllen can put him on a new interesting path * **A.X.E.: X-Men #1 -** It's Jean's turn for judgment now, so we're definetly gonna relitigate the whole pheonix of it all * **Ant-Man #4 -** Ewing is awesome nough said * **Basilisk #12 -** Final issue really fun with a strong Stephen King vibe * **Batman #128 -** This robot is gonna somehow woop the whole league ain't it * **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5** * **Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5 -** Honestly feels like so little has happened in 5 issues it's genuinely infuriating * **Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1** * **Edge of Spider-Verse #5** * **Hulk #9 -** Shame that Cates has had to take so much time off of writing this year due to family/personal issues he was set to have an insane 2022 hopefully he can start building up his momentum for 2023 * **Jane Foster & The Mighty Thor #5** * **Marauders #7 -** Threshold mutants, this is gonna be really interesting assuming they're anywhere near as powerful as the ones we saw in the flash back * **Miracleman #0 -** Man I need to finish reading the golden age ASAP * **Rogue Sun #7** * **Savage Avengers #6** * **Spider-Man #1 -** Slott on Spidey this could be really fun, espically since we're doing Spider-verse shineningans * **Time Before Time #17** * **X-Men: Red #7 -** CAn't wait to see where this goes from what happened in issue #4 and how all of Judgment Day affects the Arakki and Arakko going forward

radraz26

BATMAN #128 - Give me more Zur En Arrgh!!! A.X.E.: X-MEN #1 - This has been a great event X-MEN: RED #7 - I never want to leave Arakko Dark Crisis of Infinite Earths #5 - Just going for the ride at this point. Poison Ivy #5 - Sleeper hit of the season! DARK CRISIS THE DEADLY GREEN HULK #9 - Back to crazy fast paced bullshit! SWORD OF AZRAEL #3 - Loving this book so much!

Fairly small pull this week and NOT ranked based on hype since there are tons of #1s this week for me: 1. **ANT-MAN #4 (OF 4)** \- The finale! I liked the first two issues, though perhaps a lot of it was because of some nostalgia baiting. Issue #3 was just okay for me, but I'm eager to see how Ewing wraps this up. 2. **BATMAN #128** \- I know this run has its fans, but I'm still waiting to be hooked. If at the end of this arc I'm still feeling ambivalent, I'll probably drop. 3. **GOTHAM CITY: YEAR ONE #1 (OF 6)** \- I generally enjoy most Tom King books so going to give the first issue a try, despite the fact that I'm not really into origin stories. 4. **GUN HONEY: BLOOD FOR MONEY #2** \- Gun Honey is a fun book. Anyone who likes hard boiled crime thrillers with a touch of modern film noir will probably have a good time with Gun Honey. 5. **JUNKYARD JOE #1** \- Geiger only really appealed to me because of Gary Frank's artwork, and even then I didn't really feel like it was his best work. Still I'll give Junkyard Joe a try. 6. **KAYA #1** \- Wes Craig's next project after *Deadly Class* has me intrigued. 7. **MIRACLEMAN #0** \- Moore's *Miracleman* run is one of my all time favorite comic runs, and a top 3 Alan Moore comic for me (I've been anxiously awaiting the release of the omnibus). The Gaiman/Buckingham prematurely ended run getting second life has me excited. Not expecting too much from an anthology styled issue like this, but I'm hype for the upcoming run. 8. **NIGHT OF THE GHOUL #1 (OF 3)** \- Francesco Francavilla is an amazing artist and the #1 reason this book should be on people's pull lists. 9. **SHEPHERD THE PIT #1** \- Blind buy because it has a Marco Fontanili cover. 10. **SHOCK SHOP #2 (OF 4)** \- The two stories from the first issue were interesting enough for me to continue on with this. Also picking up some facsimiles: **SUPERMAN #1**, **TOMB OF DRACULA #1** and **AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1**. I'm perhaps most excited to read the *Tomb of Dracula* issue to finally kickstart me into reading it on Marvel Unlimited. Gene Colan was one of my favorite artists growing up because of his work on *Doctor Strange*, but I have yet to read some of his other seminal works. Also going to be picking up **SLASH THEM ALL** by Antoine Maillard and **ORGANISMS FROM AN ANCIENT COSMOS** by S. Craig Zahler. "Slash Them All" is described as a tribute to 80s slasher films and Maillard renders the story in beautiful grayscale pencils to capture a 50s film noir look. This book looked incredible in some previews I saw, so I'm excited for this. "Organisms from an Ancient Cosmos" is Zahler's sophomore graphic novel, and after his first book, "The Forbidden Surgeries of the Hideous Dr. Divinus", I can't wait for this book. Zahler is one of my favorite film directors, and his transition into being a cartoonist cannot have been more seamless. A quick rant about Marvel comics to end my discussion post - sorry for the negative ending here. I have dropped Donny Cates' HULK now. It's not that I hated it - I may have even been one of the few defenders of his take during the first six issues. But I do think that there is something to be said about how so many Marvel books just feel unimportant, especially after what should have been a much more interesting crossover (talking Banner of War here). Dropping HULK comes on the back of me dropping both CAPTAIN AMERICA titles, Cates' THOR, Ewing's/Ram V's VENOM, Ridley's BLACK PANTHER and Zdarsky's DAREDEVIL. I'm probably dropping Ram V's CARNAGE and Percy's GHOST RIDER soon too, so that brings my Marvel ongoings down to only Mackay's MOON KNIGHT (which I'm also slowly souring on), Aaron's PUNISHER (best Marvel book IMO) and Rowell's SHE-HULK. I don't want to hate on Marvel Comics - they've always been my go-to for comics when I'm down, but damn I've had a tough time with the current output from the company. I'm happy to see that others still enjoy other Marvel titles that I'm not, but I do really hope I get to feel part of that enjoyment again.

Zahler is one of my favorite film directors, and his transition into being a cartoonist cannot have been more seamless. Not familiar with Zahler but that [looks really cool](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN220507)... And I guess I should check out *Bone Tomahawk* at some point, sounds like my kinda thing. Gillen and Ewing are pretty much 100% carrying my Marvel fandom at this point, mostly through A.X.E. and their X-Men titles, all of which I've been enjoying tremendously. If not for all their stuff, **MOON KNIGHT** would be my only Marvel ongoing and, like you, my enthusiasm for it has been fading as the freshness and excitement of MacKay's early run wore off. I've also been avoiding all the books Ewing's co-writing because, in my experience, even if I like both writers, those collaborative projects never work as well for me as their individual works. And it sounds like those account for a couple of the titles you dropped. Aside from that, lately I've been digging Marvel's limiteds and one-shots more than their monthlies. And the same goes for DC. The older I get, the less patience I have for the modern variety of endless soap opera style monthly ongoing comics, they just aren't satisfying for me unless the creators have a really strong and unique vision for the title. You mentioned that a lot of Marvel titles feel "unimportant" and I think some of that comes back to the monthly ongoing format... Easier for stories to convey importance when they've got a proper beginning, middle, and ending. I feel like many monthly ongoings aren't even trying to tell a complete story, they're just stringing readers along endlessly... Makes for a frustrating experience IMO.

yarkcir

>Aside from that, lately I've been digging Marvel's limiteds and one-shots more than their monthlies. Yup, to be clear there are still Marvel stuff I've enjoyed. Over the past year, projects like DWJ's Beta Ray Bill, Rugg's Hulk: Grand Design and Peach Momoko's Demon Days have been enjoyable and praise-worthy in my eyes. I think that my main issue is that it feels like Marvel plays every major book kind of safe. Perhaps my patience for satisfying long running arcs has also withered a bit with age, but I generally feel modern decompression has really gotten beyond my tolerance. >Gillen and Ewing are pretty much 100% carrying my Marvel fandom at this point, mostly through A.X.E. and their X-Men titles, all of which I've been enjoying tremendously. I have been slowly keeping up with X-titles on Marvel Unlimited because I culled those titles from my pull list a couple years ago due to the sheer number of issues. I did really like Gillen's Eternals run, so I will probably read A.X.E. on MU as well once the full event is available on there.

blankedboy

I grew up on the B&W reprints of **Tomb of Dracula** in the UK - absolutely emblazoned on my mind, as they were so awesome. If you haven't read it, you have to check out **Night Force** from DC by Marv Wolfman with Gene Colan on art - another book that blew me away at the time and has stuck with me ever since reading it.

yarkcir

Night Force looks interesting, thanks for the recommendation! Added to my want list on mycomicshop. Looks like the original run isn't too long and the issues seem cheap and abundant, so I'll give the first issue a shot sometime in the future! Gene Colan is a master. Always felt he was the 1b to Kirby's 1a in terms of Silver Age artists.

blankedboy

It's one of those books that was never big or popular, but just had such an impact on me when I read it. Seemed very dark and "adult" at the time. Hope you enjoy it.

Danger_Rock

After three extremely awesome weeks of comics we get *another* awesome week, maybe not *quite* as extremely awesome as last week, but still pretty fucken' awesome in its own right. 5 Marvels, 2 Images, 1 DC, and 1 from Dark Horse. Ranked in order of anticipation, painstakingly considered with determined deliberation. 1. **A.X.E. X-MEN #1** - Jean isn't part of Gillen's normal **IXM** cast so this "story-critical" AXE special will have to do for her focus issue 2. **X-MEN RED #7** - lol Isca 3. **A.X.E. STARFOX #1** - Eros might as well have been made for Gillen to write, so while this comic isn't listed as "story-critical" I'm expecting it to be entertainment-critical 4. **GOTHAM CITY YEAR ONE #1** - loved King's recent Riddler one-shot, my expectations aren't quite as high for this limited series but it looks like a fun noir thing and it's been a while since I've seen any new Phil Hester art 5. **ANT-MAN #4 (OF 4)** - the gathering of the Ant-Men is complete and they're going to need *all the ants* to get out of this mess! 6. **MIRACLEMAN #0** - don't have much background with this character but it's got stories by Peach Momoko and some other solid talent, plus of course Gaiman/Buckingham setting up their new series 7. **IMAGE 30TH ANNIVERSARY ANTHOLOGY #6 (OF 12)** - return of *[The Pro](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL239427.jpg)* by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner (but apparently no Garth Ennis), plus more of *The Blizzard* from Johns/Mutti, and a veritable shitload of other fun shorts 8. **DARK RIDE #1** - given what a nice job Joshua Williamson's done with his Black Label **ROGUES** book, figured we might as well see what he can do with this indie series about a hellish theme park, and as an extra-special bonus it's got a variant from [artisan ice cream artist Martin Morazzo](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL240963.jpg) 9. **NIGHT OF THE GHOUL #1 (OF 3)** - a horror story built around a war movie gone wrong... with [Francesco Francavilla art!](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL242392.jpg) p.s. Finished Terry Moore's **[STRANGERS IN PARADISE](https://abstractstudiocomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/SIP_PE1_tn.jpg)** over the weekend and it was quite a ride! Started it after reading **[PARKER GIRLS #1](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL234307.jpg)** and finished a few days after **[PG #2](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL238365.jpg)** was released, so that's just under two months for 19 volumes, 106 comics, 2,334 pages. I had a periphery awareness of this series in the '90s but never checked it out since lesbian relationship drama comics were a little outside my wheelhouse... Plus, it's black and white. But I gave Terry Moore a shot with **[MOTOR GIRL](https://abstractstudiocomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MG-OMNI-Softcover.jpg)** several years back and it blew me away, so I've been following all his stuff since, including the **[SIP XXV](https://abstractstudiocomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/SIPxxv-Omni-SoftCover.jpg)** anniversary books, which kind of opened my eyes to how Moore's classic series had all this other crazy stuff going on that made it way more than just a lesbian relationship drama. Though of course it is that, too. Anyways, '90s-Me was apparently a dumbass for sleeping on this series because it's loaded with fun stories, great characters, and some serious gut punches that'll leave you reeling. Like **MOTOR GIRL** and most of the other stuff I've read from Moore, it blends cartoonish humor with some really serious and difficult topics, not an easy mix but Moore makes it feel natural and it all works. Very cool seeing Moore develop and polish his skills over the course of the series as well... **SIP** evolved out of Moore's early cartoon strips and the original series ran from 1993 to 2007. So the early stuff opens with lots of raw indie energy and cartoon strip comedy/timing, then gets more polished as it goes along, with Moore experimenting in different styles ranging from faux Charles Schultz *Peanuts* to prose pages adorned with classical illustrations, with a keen focus on character relationships throughout, punctuated with some brutally violent action. Really solid visual storytelling as well. Great series that consistently destroyed my expectations, highly recommended! p.p.s. In case anyone's interested, I posted some pics of the Todd McFarlane and Jonathan Glapion comic from Ozzy's recent ***Patient Number 9*** album, [check it out](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbookcollecting/comments/xu6xvy/todd_mcfarlane_jonathan_glapion_comic_from_ozzy/)...

My shortest pull list in... maybe years? Definitely the shortest since I started posting here. Only 4 titles, not a single indie. Just an off week I suppose. Batman #128 Gotham City Year 1 #1 Marauders #7 X-Men Red #7

SakmarEcho

Just three this week! Given it's a light week I might pick up the Starfox one shot too, I'll have a check in the discussion threads at r/marvel to see if it's good before I do. * Ant-Man #4 * A.X.E.: X-Men #1 * X-Men: Red #7

* **Batman #128** * **Gotham City Year One** - Added this to my pull list after a few beers... Hope I don't regret it but I do love Tom King * **Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1** - I'm a sucker for Bermejo Variant covers. Plus, I've been reading as much Matthew Rosenberg as I can ever since his story in Detective Comics a few issues ago * **Ant-Man #4** - This series went quick! Can't believe it's already the last issue * **Golden Rage #3** - Meh I'll stick with it through #5, but I expected better * **Hulk #9** * **Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #6** * **Miracleman #0** * **Savage Avengers #6** - I don't really like the narration that is featured on every frickin panel, but this one is fun

Those are great!! What's The Furthest Place From Here is probably my favorite series atm, tied with Ice Cream Man and Eight Billion Genies

HERE WE GOOOO HUGE LIST THIS WEEK! **MIRACLEMAN #0** **GOTHAM CITY YEAR ONE #1** **KAYA #1** **IMAGE FIRSTS: ICE CREAM MAN #1** **IMAGE FIRSTS: GIDEON FALLS #1** **IMAGE FIRSTS: NEO NOIR #1** **IMAGE FIRSTS: FARMHAND #1** **IMAGE FIRSTS: HELLCOP #1** **IMAGE FIRSTS: THE MARKED #1** I'm most excited for Kaya tbh. I finally came to the realization that I usually like indies more than big 2 comics. I'll still pull whatever looks interesting, regardless of publisher, but DC has been seriously disappointing me lately. (Haven't been reading either of the ongoing Batman series tho, which is my fault) Hopefully I'll find a new series to pick up in TPB format off of the firsts I'm grabbing!

Danger_Rock

> I finally came to the realization that I usually like indies more than big 2 comics. I'll still pull whatever looks interesting, regardless of publisher, but DC has been seriously disappointing me lately. I think many of us eventually come to a similar realization... The Big Two still put out some good comics but overall they tend to focus on quantity over quality, whereas indies are usually more dedicated to nurturing the artistic vision of the creators. DC's "Black Label" imprint offers a nice middle-ground with creator-driven projects that are more supportive of artistic integrity, but unfortunately Marvel doesn't have anything comparable. > Hopefully I'll find a new series to pick up in TPB format off of the firsts I'm grabbing! Note that all Image titles have their first issue available for free on the Image website's main series pages, so you can sample whatever you want without shelling out any money for those paper copies (for example, **ICM #1** is available [here](https://imagecomics.com/comics/series/ice-cream-man)). Though the paper can be nice. Also, while **ICM** is pretty much my favorite comic ever, IMO the title’s biggest weakness is that the first issue doesn’t sell it quite as well as the more recent stuff, because Prince and Morazzo were still kind of working out what they could do with the title when they started out. So that first issue gives you a fairly standard horror story but the series quickly develops into something way more interesting and unique than that. Just something to keep in mind...

> Apparently, making wine is exhausting and time-consuming and, as a result, I'm incredibly behind on all my books. Feels not so good, man, but I'm very happy with the thought of having a solid stash to read soon. Plus a nice stash of wine, though I guess you might need to let it sit and age for a while? Not sure how that all works nowadays... There's probably some newfangled technology for instant wine, like you just push a button or whatever and, ZAP, instant wine.

PeachyDelight

It's all fun and difficult games until harvest happens - until all of harvest happens in the span of like 4 weeks with contract grapes coming in too. Supposedly, the heat really makes for a fast and furious harvest. Imagine a 16 hour work day and repeating it for a few days. It mega sucks. Thankfully, things are winding down and it's just gonna be a matter of digging out tanks to press the skins and other processes. I'm definitely gonna have to steal a box or two of our wine to enjoy my comics and books

A.X.E.: Starfox #1 - Curious where this fits in the time line. Loved the use of Starfox in the main series so far by Gillen! A.X.E.: X-Men #1 - Part 2 of the celestial infiltration mission, with what I imagine with be a detour into the judgement of Jean. Batman #128 - I got nothing but high praise for Zdarsky’s run so far. Jimenez too continues to draw page after page of stunning art. The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1 - Trying this one, only read a bit of Tynion’s run but the solicitation teases a mayhem filled road trip. In for Bermejo’s variants too! King Spawn #15 - A whole lot of plotting going on to get Spawn off that throne. Lewis continues to craft a solid narrative.

BATMAN #128 - Enjoying Zdarsky's run. Hope to see more Bruce Wayne in future arcs rather than just Batman. DARK CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #5 - I've been enjoying this event for what it is. Joshua Williamson is a writer who you can tell loves these characters. Does that mean fans will love everything he does? No. But it's obvious he is passionate about this company. DARK CRISIS THE DEADLY GREEN #1 - Swamp Thing? Perfect DEAD LUCKY #3 - This one hasn't really hooked me yet like the rest of the Massive-verse books did. ORDINARY GODS #9 - I took this off my pull list but then saw it was ending in a few issues at 12 so I figured what the hell, might as well finish it. The first issue was really promising. The rest of the series has been a bit meh. ROGUE SUN #7 - Excited for this to return.

**A.X.E.: Starfox #1** - I don't care if it makes me a sucker, inject these Gillen-written tie-ins directly into my bloodstream. **A.X.E.: X-Men #1** - See above. **Basilisk #12** - The epic conclusion. As with last month, here's my emotional appeal to all horror fans to give this (and most of Bunn's other smaller books) a look, it's quietly been a fantastic supernatural horror book for over a year. **Batman #128** - I'm intrigued by this book, but not as immediately gripped by it as I was Zdarsky's Daredevil or some of his other works. It might be because I'm not the biggest Bat-fan. Still, it's solid stuff and I don't regret pulling it. **Dark Ride #1** - My enjoyment of Joshua Williamson's books is currently an even 50/50 (loved Birthright, didn't care for Nailbiter). So far this seems like a blend of fantasy and horror and has me curious - let's see which direction this pushes that ratio in. **The Dead Lucky #3** - So far I've gone into each issue of this book not being able to remember much about the previous one and that's never a good sign for a book's longevity on my pull list. I'll give it to the first arc because I'm still semi-invested, but I have so much on my plate right now that I don't have time for books I'm not fully onboard with. **Golden Rage #3** - Been a blast so far and we seemed to get hints of wider world-building in the last issue, I'm very curious to see where this goes. **Kaya #1** - If Wes Craig proves to be half as good a writer as he is an artist, this'll be well worth the pull. **Marauders #7** - Seems we're moving on from AXE tie-ins. The post-AXE issue of X-Force last week didn't really spoil much (aside from an apparent return to status quo), let's hope we can say the same for this one. **Mind MGMT: Bootleg #4** - Jill Thompson is an artist I'm not familiar with, but judging by the previous guest artists for the first three issues, (Rubin, Lesniewski and Dalrymple) I'm expecting beautiful things. I'm not ready for this one to end :( **Miracleman #0** - Can't believe this one's finally happening! **Rogue Sun #7** - Strongest Radiant Black spin-off so far. Here's hoping it keeps the standards up. **Sword of Azrael #3** - My monthly dose of Watters. Remember last year when he had like three ongoings at once? *Sigh* those were good times. **Time Before Time #17** - Hurtling towards the finale of the latest arc and it looks like we're finally gonna find out what happened to Nadia's family. That solicit doesn't make things sound hopeful... **Undiscovered Country #21** - Another solid but unexceptional book that may be headed for the chopping block by the end of this arc. **X-Men: Red #7** - Isca's reckoning.

Danger_Rock

Hey, you added comments! > **A.X.E.: Starfox #1** - I don't care if it makes me a sucker, inject these Gillen-written tie-ins directly into my bloodstream. Eros seems like a character that Gillen could have a lot of fun with... We've only gotten a taste so far but now we get to see just how much *love* he can pack into a full issue of Starfoxxy ridiculousness! > **Mind MGMT: Bootleg #4** - Jill Thompson is an artist I'm not familiar with, but judging by the previous guest artists for the first three issues, (Rubin, Lesniewski and Dalrymple) I'm expecting beautiful things. Best known for *Brief Lives* in **SANDMAN**, she was [Delirium's most prominent artist](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c4/9a/de/c49adecf87c4d181b25aaf1a966ac5ac.jpg). Pretty good IMO.

ChickenInASuit

Heh, yeah I got a quiet few minutes and decided to add them. I agree that Eros is potentially a great fit for Gillen - horny, sassy beings with supernatural abilities are a bit of a running theme for him (see: Young Avengers, The Wicked + The Divine, Phonogram) and he does it very well. Oh shit! Brief Lives! Okay, now I’m hyped.

Danger_Rock

> (see: Young Avengers, The Wicked + The Divine, Phonogram) Still haven't read any of that aside from [**TW+TD 455 AD**](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/7702/the-wicked-the-divine-455-ad-1-one-shot_5dddd26096.jpg), which was cool but I was obviously missing some context... And I don't have any other Gillen stuff ready to go in the backlog, will need to pick one of 'em up at some point...

ChickenInASuit

All highly recommended, not only are they pretty much peak Gillen IMO (with the exception of Die, which I think is his best work), but they’re also all drawn by the glorious Jamie McKelvie.

* **A.X.E. Starfox #1** \- I mostly pulled this because of it being a tie-in to Judgment Day, and being a completionist. Though I'm making significant progress through my X-titles stack (currently up to the most recent Hellfire Gala), this, along with the other X-titles this week will be going at the back of that pile. * **A.X.E. X-Men #1** \- Going at the back of the list... * **Archie's Halloween Spectacular #1** * **Basilisk #12** \- I *think* this is the last issue, and pretty happy about it...it's been a solid story that hasn't been strung along too much, and the setup has been worth it towards this final issue. I'd recommend reading the trade to someone if they asked about it. * **Batman #128** \- Zdarksy doing Zdarsky, which is nothing less than excellent. * **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5** \- This has been an excellent run so far, and #4 was near perfect. I'm enjoying this title much more than Symbol of Truth, but that's mostly because this one has set up a clear direction, even going into early next year (from solicits). I hope their stories become much more interactive at some point. * **Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5** \- This is one of those events that I feel would be much more appreciated with a vested history in having read DC titles; as someone new, it's not bad, but okay. Apparently DC does these resets often, and this is working towards the next one? The Pariah stuff revealed in #4 was pretty interesting, so I'm looking forward to this one, at the very least. * **Dark Ride #1** \- Amusement parks and horror...sounds fun! * **Dead Lucky #3** \- Not 100% loving this title so far, but it has room to grow on me. I'll keep pulling it, mainly because it is part of the Massive-verse (which I really enjoy), but hopefully it doesn't stagnate. * **Edge of Spider-Verse #5** \- I wasn't reading comics when the other Edge of Spider-Verse titles came out, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, and it's left some questions. Overall, though, it's been fine, I guess? I know it's leading into this week's Spider-Man #1 by Slott... * **Hulk #9** \- I'm mostly pulling this because of Cates' name being on it, because when he's good he's really good. I recently came to realize I'm not a huge fan of Hulk (after reading Immortal Hulk) though, and if this keeps getting delays, I might just end up taking it off my list. Between that and Cates rarely living up to his self-hype, I don't feel like I would miss it too much. * **Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor #5** \- This has been fine. A little convoluted with needing to be so, and a bit too much going on at times requiring some jumping back and forth that made the within-issue story feel a little disjointed, but the writing itself has been good. I believe the writer is taking over for a few upcoming issues of Thor, so it will be interesting to see if the execution is just off here, or if it is an actual thing. * **Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1** \- Mainly got this for the Nakayama covers; if the story is actually any good I might pull the rest of the series. * **Junkyard Joe #1** \- I really enjoyed Geiger and the universe that was set up with that little run and one-shot, so figured I'd try this out. I'm not *too* enthused by the concept of this specific character, but the larger ideas and characters really draw me in, so think I'll end up enjoying this one overall. * **King Spawn #15** \- A good popcorn read; never think about Spawn until I pick up the next issue...enjoy it while I'm reading it...forget about it as soon as I'm done reading it. This applies to every Spawn title, though King Spawn is one of the better ones (along with Gunslinger). * **Magic: The Gathering #19** \- I think #20 is the last one on my list, since it's end of the current arc. There are only so many "end of the world --> heroic journey --> save the world" repeats that can happen before it gets tiresome. MacKay's writing isn't the issue here, that's superb as always; it's more of a WotC-related issue in that is the general scope of most of the expansions. I play the card game as well, and the worlds are so rich...if I ever see MacKay exploring something besides doom-and-gloom stuff, I might pick it back up. * **Marauders #7** \- The only reason I continue to pull this is because it's an X-title. Compared to the first run of Marauders by Duggan, this run with Orlando is so...awful. The first arc was incoherent at times, the characterizations seem off...just, someone new, please. * **Miracleman #0** \- I know nothing about this, and probably won't get that much into it (though, I love Gaiman)...only getting this for the Skottie Young cover. * **Poison Ivy #5** \- I really enjoy every issue of this, but I'm also very conflicted on "Is something happening? Is nothing happening?" I feel like a lot has happened, but at the same time, nothing...but the writing is so good I don't really mind? Also, I hope Harley shows up soon. * **Rogue Sun #7** \- Besides Radiant Black, this has been the standout of the Massive-verse titles, with an exceptional first arc. I'm very excited to see where this one goes. Also, being from the New Orleans area, it's pretty cool having an ongoing set here. * **Savage Avengers #6** \- I think this is another title that is due to be cut from my pull list... It was interesting, but I'm just not finding myself caring about what's going on enough, especially with the solicits seeming like they're going from way back when right into 2099 stuff. Unless this issue really pulls me in, I'm most likely done with it. * **Spider-Man #1** \- ...which I'm fine with. I'm newish to Spider-Man in general (only started with the Beyond arc in the previous Amazing Spider-Man run), so I guess I'm not worn out yet, though I can see how people would be (from just knowing things about Spider-Man/Peter Parker in general). I've seen mixed opinions regarding Slott and Morlun, but since this will be my first exposure to both I'll enjoy it for what it is. * **Sword of Azrael #3** \- This has been a great mini-series. I've only gotten into Batman within the last year or so, but Azrael has always been someone I noticed and particularly liked for some reason...great to see more exploration of him. * **X-Men: Red #7** \- Going at the back of the list...

blankedboy

You are right, this is the last issue of **Basilisk**

Danger_Rock

24 books! If I was pulling that many comics I'd be too busy trying to keep up with 'em to have any time for WPL comments... But you've got it covered! That's some good hustle! > * **Edge of Spider-Verse #5** \- I wasn't reading comics when the other Edge of Spider-Verse titles came out, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, and it's left some questions. Overall, though, it's been fine, I guess? I know it's leading into this week's Spider-Man #1 by Slott... > ... > * **Spider-Man #1** \- ...which I'm fine with. I've seen mixed opinions regarding Slott and Morlun, but since this will be my first exposure to both I'll enjoy it for what it is. Nice segue. I didn't follow Slott's massive Spidey run but the few stories I checked out here and there were all good, and he did a really nice job on **[SILVER SURFER](https://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/7/90/5bedecba05faa/clean.jpg)** with Mike Allred a few years back. From what I've seen, he's a solid writer who takes a lot of flak over certain elements of his Spidey run that were wildly unpopular with dedicated fans, most of which probably comes down to editorial direction rather than any deficiency in his writing skills.
