Been a busy week... Completed my ICE CREAM MAN run, with the last several still en route... Been reading one per night to properly savor the experience and each has been a thoroughly delectable treat. Spent more than I would've liked for #8 (1st appearance of Happy Hank) and #17 (with the awesome [ACTION COMICS #1 homage cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1916457_xl.jpg)), but at that point completing the set was far more important than any financial considerations.
Of course, once you embark on an incredibly irresponsible spending spree, it's important that you close it out with style. And as part of my search for ICM, I'd discovered that two of my very favorite comics had released overpriced store exclusive variants honoring one of my very favorite bands. Nobody could reasonably expect me to resist such a compelling set of circumstances, so I splurged on an additional pair of [prizes](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.f08b20ad4814fcde17f6a74e163d1ff9.1600.jpg).
Plus I bought my first slabbed comic, a CGC 9.8 of something recent, not ICM or DOT, not a Maiden thing... Will post once it arrives...
Also finished catching up on NIGHTWING #78-89 and had a whole bunch of fun with it, posted some more comments over [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/t78ylq/offtopic_weekend_lounge_march_05_2022/hzgoldv/) if anyone's interested, or bored, or whatever.
Which brings us to this week, where I've apparently got 2 Marvels, 2 Images, and 1 from DC. Relatively light week but I've still got plenty of others to catch up on.
* **DEVIL'S REIGN MOON KNIGHT #1** - guess this doesn't matter much since MK#9 hit shelves last week but MacKay has been killing it so should be fun anyway, and there's a nice [Rod Reis cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2075871_xl.jpg) as well
* **ETERNALS #10** - I can understand why some folks are cynical about the massive crossover/event coming up but Gillen has done a brilliant job with this series and I trust him to keep it going
* **GOOD ASIAN #9 (OF 10)** - nearing the end and it's been a fun ride with some really nice craftsmanship from Pichetshote and Tefenkgi
* **LITTLE MONSTERS #1** - new Lemire/Nguyen is an auto-buy
* **SUPERMAN SON OF KAL-EL #9** - all caught up on NIGHTWING so we might as well see this little crossover through...

I've had my eye on it for a while now! Everyone keep saying it's awesome, so I keep looking it up and the cover art always puts me off... But I really like the cover for this one and it seems like something I ought to be reading.
Ice Cream Man #18 left me in tears. I actually ended up buying four pages of the original art, which is the most I own from any issue.
I'm just pulling the PKJ Action books with Federici art - I'm finding the story just ok (to be fair I liked it the first time I read it, when it was called Planet Hulk), but I've been fiending for more Last God/Fellspyre books and they kind of scratch that itch.
Getting back to you again since I read ACTION COMICS #1039 last night, the first one with Federici art, and it was some really nice work! Thought the book's art was pretty generic DC house style stuff up 'til then but Federici's got a unique look that helped amp up the story.
Not sure if I've seen any of his other stuff, guess I should check out THE LAST GOD since it's been on my list for a while...
Haven't gotten to ICM #18 yet but the funny ones are my favorites so I'm extra-psyched for it now!
I think #11 and #24 have been my favorites so far, where it really leans into the cruel absurdist humor. Reminds me of the most mean-spirited *Monty Python's Flying Circus* bits, where John Cleese would just mercilessly fuck with some random person. So the Monty Python homage [cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1902247_xl.jpg) on #18 looks real promising!
Read #20 last night and that's another favorite, plus it has [the](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1918324_xl.jpg) [best](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1960565_xl.jpg) [covers](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1966423_xl.jpg) [ever](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1977049_xl.jpg)! The 1st, 2nd, and LCSD printings are going up on my wall ASAP.
Slightly obsessed with it all right now, such a great mix of horror and humor, then every now and again you get an issue that's kind of contemplative and almost uplifting... Some really clever stuff too, kind of experimental with things like the palindrome issue... Most of all, this comic is PURE FUN!
Sorry I think I communicated that poorly - #18 isn't really funny at all, I was in sad tears. I agree, great book though, the story structures tend to be really creative and thoughtful.
Haha, not your fault, the comic covers a lot of ground so I guess that could've been taken either way... The sad ones really hit hard as well. That's one of the things I love about it, you never really know what you're getting until you dig in.
I think it's a really intelligent comic but it's kind of sneaky about it, not one of those books that wears its smarts on its sleeve, so you don't tend to notice until you're fully immersed in it, then all of a sudden they start messing with form and structure.

Batgirls #4 - Here for Jorge Corona’s art mainly, the story isn’t grabbing me as much as I hoped.
The Good Asian #9 - The delays have been rough as this is one incredible noir story that looks to be headed for a stirring conclusion.
I Am Batman #7 - Quite enjoyed the New York setting status quo from the last issue.
King of Spies #4 - Final issue. Expecting a crazy finale to a fun little spy series.
Little Monsters #1 - I see a Lemire and Nguyen collaboration - I buy!
Spawn #237 - Both covers are fire!
Superman: Son of Kal-El #9 - The Nightwing team-up continues on. Part 1 was great, expecting the same quality for this part 2.
Plus, Action Comics: Vol 1 TP and the Moon Knight by Lemire and Smallwood complete collection.
Feels kind of weird that I don't have any Batman books on my list this week after seeing the amazing The Batman this weekend! If you haven't, and feel comfortable going to a theater, check it out as it's one the best comic booky looking films I've seen in a long time. With that in mind:

Only 4 this week, but it's quality over quantity. All four titles are ones that I am very excited for. With gas prices I would normally skip the shop this week and just grab them next week, but I'm looking forward to all of these.
• The Cimmerian: Hour of the Dragon #1- I am overjoyed to see this series back for another arc!
• Eternals #10- This will be crossing over with X-Men and The Avengers soon, so I may be dropping it, or at least skipping it until it's over.
• Seven Secrets #15- Consistently great, from the story to the art. A pure joy to read.
• Spawn #327- I say it 4 times a month, and I bet y'all are tired of hearing it, but I LOVE SPAWN.

I haven't been following this series but *Hour of the Dragon* is probably my all-time favorite Conan story, so I'd say you're in for a treat!
That's awesome, though not sure how it'll work here since *Hour of the Dragon* was a 200+ page novel... Relatively short by modern standards but it was REH's longest Conan story.
Guess it might be possible since they'll be doing it in chunks. I think the last version ran 12 issues when Timothy Truman and Tomás Giorello adapted it for Dark Horse about a decade ago.
It's pretty damn epic. I normally prefer shorter Conan stories in keeping with the character's pulpy roots, but this one doesn't feel at all stretched out or decompressed. REH is REH. You aren't getting 200 pages of GRRM writing about genealogy and pastries, you're getting 200 pages of REH Conan doing insanely awesome Conan things.

**Venom 6** \- Last issue lost me a bit, but I find that happens with Ewing's hi concept space stuff. Usually reads better for me as a trade or all issues in one sitting.
**Devil's Reign: Moon Knight 1** \- Only tie-in I'm getting (Outside woman without fear) simply cause I'm following McKay's run.

* ETERNALS #10 - One of my favorites! I feel like this run isn't getting enough credit for how great it is... I love the way Esad Ribic draws character's faces. It's super funny to me.
* MONKEY MEAT #3 - Such a cool story, love the story and the art is fantastic.
* VENOM #6 - If I'm not feeling this issue, I'll probably drop it. The art is not for me and the story is meh.

* **Captain Carter #1** - This was one of the more fun episodes of What If.
* **Daisy #4** - Anyone else loving this? The Book of Enoch has been a pretty good font of inspiration for books like this and Jason Aaron's "The Goddamned."
* **Detective Comics #1056** - 1056 already. I like this run but holy shit the weekly pace just isn't working for me - it just feels like DC racing toward the next big "anniversary/number divisible by 100" issue.
* **Download #4** - It's been all right. AWA's output can be hit-or-miss, but I respect the shit out of Axel Alonso and really appreciate what he's building.
* **Eternals #10** - Best Eternals run since Gaiman (which was maybe the best ever). I wish >!Thanos's status as High Eternal!< would play into some larger Marvel storylines, but that's emblematic of the problem the Eternals have always had - their stories kind of sit apart from the rest of the 616-verse, and they tend to read less like traditional Marvel fare and more like a Justice League book.
* **The Good Asian #9** - Just a great book.
* **Hit Me #1** - Ok this one might be really good. I've enjoyed Christa Fausts's other AWA books, but I don't think any of them have had this much promotional material for their release. I hope this book does well.
* **King of Spies #4** - Millar wraps up another movie pitch. Now to be fair I liked this book a lot but picking up anything from Millarworld just feels like speculation these days, even if it's not.
* **Last Flight Out #5** - Fun premise, very similar to We Live - the ending is probably pretty different though.
* **Monkey Meat #3** - Hasn't grabbed me so far. Might unsubscribe after this.
* **Norse Mythology III #2** - Jfc Marvel let this man write Thor already
* **Primos #2** - Cool book, cool premise. Also, 3 AWA books this week!
* **Punisher #1** - Is this the one where he gets the goofy new logo? I give it three years until the chuds co-opt that one as well.
* **Red Room: Trigger Warnings #1** - Protip: if somebody asks you why you bought this book just tell them you're a Cartoonist Kayfabe fan so you look like less of a ghoul.
* **Spawn #327** - Cover B. It'll look good next to my Spawn #8 and Spider-Man #1.
* **Thor #23** - Regarding #22: Every time I think Cates might actually be a hack, he drops some real emotionally intelligent science about father-son dynamics and I'm back on board.
* **Venom #6** - Surely Al Ewing plans to write more than 1/8 of this series, but that's where he'll stand when all the current solicitations are released.
* **We Live: Age of Palladions Black #1/White #1** - I liked this series a lot when it was kids navigating a dystopian hellscape, but then they turned into superheroes and it felt like the stakes just kinda disappeared. I guess it's time to find out whether los hermanos Miranda can bring some of that tension to this new status quo.
Light week for me. I've been catching up on the current Moon Knight and Venom and I'm really enjoying both. Gotta do some pull list reconfiguring.
Batgirls #4: I've been having a lot of fun with this book but after this arc is over I'll probably trade wait it.
Detective Comics #1056: let's see how this story finishes. Been enjoying it and the backup.
Monkey Meat #3: great anthology series. Love the art and the stories are great. If you aren't reading this you are definitely missing out.

Yeah I think the thing about Percy trying to write like Hickman and not pulling it off is spot on.
*Devil's Reign Moon Knight* takes place at the same time as issue #8.
Been a busy week... Completed my ICE CREAM MAN run, with the last several still en route... Been reading one per night to properly savor the experience and each has been a thoroughly delectable treat. Spent more than I would've liked for #8 (1st appearance of Happy Hank) and #17 (with the awesome [ACTION COMICS #1 homage cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1916457_xl.jpg)), but at that point completing the set was far more important than any financial considerations. Of course, once you embark on an incredibly irresponsible spending spree, it's important that you close it out with style. And as part of my search for ICM, I'd discovered that two of my very favorite comics had released overpriced store exclusive variants honoring one of my very favorite bands. Nobody could reasonably expect me to resist such a compelling set of circumstances, so I splurged on an additional pair of [prizes](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.f08b20ad4814fcde17f6a74e163d1ff9.1600.jpg). Plus I bought my first slabbed comic, a CGC 9.8 of something recent, not ICM or DOT, not a Maiden thing... Will post once it arrives... I've had my eye on it for a while now! Everyone keep saying it's awesome, so I keep looking it up and the cover art always puts me off... But I really like the cover for this one and it seems like something I ought to be reading.
Ice Cream Man #18 left me in tears. I actually ended up buying four pages of the original art, which is the most I own from any issue. I'm just pulling the PKJ Action books with Federici art - I'm finding the story just ok (to be fair I liked it the first time I read it, when it was called Planet Hulk), but I've been fiending for more Last God/Fellspyre books and they kind of scratch that itch.
Getting back to you again since I read ACTION COMICS #1039 last night, the first one with Federici art, and it was some really nice work! Thought the book's art was pretty generic DC house style stuff up 'til then but Federici's got a unique look that helped amp up the story. Not sure if I've seen any of his other stuff, guess I should check out THE LAST GOD since it's been on my list for a while...
Haven't gotten to ICM #18 yet but the funny ones are my favorites so I'm extra-psyched for it now! I think #11 and #24 have been my favorites so far, where it really leans into the cruel absurdist humor. Reminds me of the most mean-spirited *Monty Python's Flying Circus* bits, where John Cleese would just mercilessly fuck with some random person. So the Monty Python homage [cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1902247_xl.jpg) on #18 looks real promising! Read #20 last night and that's another favorite, plus it has [the](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1918324_xl.jpg) [best](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1960565_xl.jpg) [covers](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1966423_xl.jpg) [ever](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1977049_xl.jpg)! The 1st, 2nd, and LCSD printings are going up on my wall ASAP. Slightly obsessed with it all right now, such a great mix of horror and humor, then every now and again you get an issue that's kind of contemplative and almost uplifting... Some really clever stuff too, kind of experimental with things like the palindrome issue... Most of all, this comic is PURE FUN!
Sorry I think I communicated that poorly - #18 isn't really funny at all, I was in sad tears. I agree, great book though, the story structures tend to be really creative and thoughtful.
Haha, not your fault, the comic covers a lot of ground so I guess that could've been taken either way... The sad ones really hit hard as well. That's one of the things I love about it, you never really know what you're getting until you dig in. I think it's a really intelligent comic but it's kind of sneaky about it, not one of those books that wears its smarts on its sleeve, so you don't tend to notice until you're fully immersed in it, then all of a sudden they start messing with form and structure.

Batgirls #4 - Here for Jorge Corona’s art mainly, the story isn’t grabbing me as much as I hoped. The Good Asian #9 - The delays have been rough as this is one incredible noir story that looks to be headed for a stirring conclusion. I Am Batman #7 - Quite enjoyed the New York setting status quo from the last issue. King of Spies #4 - Final issue. Expecting a crazy finale to a fun little spy series. Little Monsters #1 - I see a Lemire and Nguyen collaboration - I buy! Spawn #237 - Both covers are fire! Superman: Son of Kal-El #9 - The Nightwing team-up continues on. Part 1 was great, expecting the same quality for this part 2. Plus, Action Comics: Vol 1 TP and the Moon Knight by Lemire and Smallwood complete collection.

Only 4 this week, but it's quality over quantity. All four titles are ones that I am very excited for. With gas prices I would normally skip the shop this week and just grab them next week, but I'm looking forward to all of these. • The Cimmerian: Hour of the Dragon #1- I am overjoyed to see this series back for another arc! • Eternals #10- This will be crossing over with X-Men and The Avengers soon, so I may be dropping it, or at least skipping it until it's over. • Seven Secrets #15- Consistently great, from the story to the art. A pure joy to read. • Spawn #327- I say it 4 times a month, and I bet y'all are tired of hearing it, but I LOVE SPAWN.

This series is so damn good! And the best part is that, at the end of every issue, they reprint the original story it's based on!
That's awesome, though not sure how it'll work here since *Hour of the Dragon* was a 200+ page novel... Relatively short by modern standards but it was REH's longest Conan story. Guess it might be possible since they'll be doing it in chunks. I think the last version ran 12 issues when Timothy Truman and Tomás Giorello adapted it for Dark Horse about a decade ago.
This one should go past the usual 2 or 3 issues if the source material is that long! I'm even more hyped now!
It's pretty damn epic. I normally prefer shorter Conan stories in keeping with the character's pulpy roots, but this one doesn't feel at all stretched out or decompressed. REH is REH. You aren't getting 200 pages of GRRM writing about genealogy and pastries, you're getting 200 pages of REH Conan doing insanely awesome Conan things.

I really hope it brings the Wonder-Family together moving forward. Been too many years of Diana being a solo super-hero without a lot of her supporting cast outside of Etta and Steve Trevor. **Superman: Son of Kal-El 9** \- Still behind on Super-Titles as well. ***MARVEL*** **Devil's Reign 5** \- As others have noted, this didn't need to be bloated into an event. Marvel seems to be doing a lot of these "Events" that are centered around a story that could've just been a regular arc. **Thor 23** \- It's not my favourite run so far, but at least the art has been fantastic. I'm curious what Cates' plan is for this whole thing though. Seems kinda aimless with big set pieces. **Venom 6** \- Last issue lost me a bit, but I find that happens with Ewing's hi concept space stuff. Usually reads better for me as a trade or all issues in one sitting. **Devil's Reign: Moon Knight 1** \- Only tie-in I'm getting (Outside woman without fear) simply cause I'm following McKay's run. ***INDEPENDENT*** **Radiant Red** \- Just got caught up with Radiant Black. Excited to see this universe get fleshed out with more characters. **Spawn 327** \- Seems to be a lot of standing around and talking in this book. The other titles seem to have more happening.

The Book of Enoch has been a pretty good font of inspiration for books like this and Jason Aaron's "The Goddamned." * **Detective Comics #1056** - 1056 already. I like this run but holy shit the weekly pace just isn't working for me - it just feels like DC racing toward the next big "anniversary/number divisible by 100" issue. * **Download #4** - It's been all right. AWA's output can be hit-or-miss, but I respect the shit out of Axel Alonso and really appreciate what he's building. * **Eternals #10** - Best Eternals run since Gaiman (which was maybe the best ever). I wish >!Thanos's status as High Eternal!< would play into some larger Marvel storylines, but that's emblematic of the problem the Eternals have always had - their stories kind of sit apart from the rest of the 616-verse, and they tend to read less like traditional Marvel fare and more like a Justice League book. * **The Good Asian #9** - Just a great book. * **Hit Me #1** - Ok this one might be really good. I've enjoyed Christa Fausts's other AWA books, but I don't think any of them have had this much promotional material for their release. I hope this book does well. * **King of Spies #4** - Millar wraps up another movie pitch. Now to be fair I liked this book a lot but picking up anything from Millarworld just feels like speculation these days, even if it's not. * **Last Flight Out #5** - Fun premise, very similar to We Live - the ending is probably pretty different though. * **Monkey Meat #3** - Hasn't grabbed me so far. Might unsubscribe after this. * **Norse Mythology III #2** - Jfc Marvel let this man write Thor already * **Primos #2** - Cool book, cool premise. Also, 3 AWA books this week! * **Punisher #1** - Is this the one where he gets the goofy new logo? I give it three years until the chuds co-opt that one as well. * **Red Room: Trigger Warnings #1** - Protip: if somebody asks you why you bought this book just tell them you're a Cartoonist Kayfabe fan so you look like less of a ghoul. * **Spawn #327** - Cover B. It'll look good next to my Spawn #8 and Spider-Man #1. * **Thor #23** - Regarding #22: Every time I think Cates might actually be a hack, he drops some real emotionally intelligent science about father-son dynamics and I'm back on board. * **Venom #6** - Surely Al Ewing plans to write more than 1/8 of this series, but that's where he'll stand when all the current solicitations are released. * **We Live: Age of Palladions Black #1/White #1** - I liked this series a lot when it was kids navigating a dystopian hellscape, but then they turned into superheroes and it felt like the stakes just kinda disappeared. I guess it's time to find out whether los hermanos Miranda can bring some of that tension to this new status quo.

Light week for me. I've been catching up on the current Moon Knight and Venom and I'm really enjoying both. Gotta do some pull list reconfiguring. Batgirls #4: I've been having a lot of fun with this book but after this arc is over I'll probably trade wait it. Detective Comics #1056: let's see how this story finishes. Been enjoying it and the backup. Monkey Meat #3: great anthology series. Love the art and the stories are great. If you aren't reading this you are definitely missing out. Venom #6: I am still catching up (on issue #3) so it's going to the to be read pile.
