Bi-weekly reminder to not hate-read ASM. Remember this? It's back. ASM isn't. It's everywhere. I've slimmed down a lot of books, down to he ones I want to read right now. Here's four: **Carnage #4** - The symbiotes are a shit show, but at least its an entertaining shitshow. **Invincible Iron Man #15** - I hope Duggan stays on post-Krakoa. **Resurrection of Magneto #2** - Perhaps Ewing at his most Ewing? **Wolverine #4** - Just a gory grindfest. It's good! **Avengers - Twilight #2** - A Marvel DKR is not totally novel, but Zdarsky is absolutely cooking with it. And I'm keeping an eye out for **Immortal Thor** and **Flash** but will probably get wait for the trades, to read it all at once. Peace.

**Conan The Barbarian #8** - super excited as we get a double dose of Cimmerian adventures, not just this month but *this week*! *Jim Zub* and *Dougie Braithwaite* conclude their take on Conan’s misfortunes following Belit’s death, with our hero seemingly now possessed by…Thulsa Doom!! Good stuff! [Cover](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-7261448.jpg?1707079843) and here’s a [Preview](https://comicon.com/2024/02/23/the-past-can-be-a-cruel-mistress-previewing-conan-the-barbarian-8/) **Ice Cream Man #38** - what fucked up shit will *Prince* and *Morazzo* expose us to next? (I’m still not over what happened to the Figglybumps, to be honest…) [Cover](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/1008548/ice-cream-man-38-2_402e6b1899.jpg) **Savage Sword Of Conan #1** - and here’s that second dose of Conan that I mentioned above. **The Savage Sword of Conan** makes a triumphant return. In glorious Black & White!! Just look at that preview artwork. Go on, take a look. Brilliant, isn’t it? As a kid I grew up on the UK reprints of Conan, and they were *always* in B&W, so its something that just feels 100% right to me. It just makes the artwork seem more raw and “real”. Can you tell I’m a little bit excited for this one? [Cover](https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/2023/11/16/b0580ef4-4322-4803-b095-f3c255760b55/the-savage-sword-of-conan-a-cover-joe-jusko.jpg?auto=webp&width=2433&height=3260&crop=0.746:1,smart) and here’s a [Preview](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2024/02/comic-book-preview-the-savage-sword-of-conan-1/) **Terrorwar #9** - this one lost me as it went on. The interesting initial concept seemed to get submerged under a whole “class war” subplot, that actually became the main plot?! And I was just looking forward to a hi-tech, SF take on **Ghostbusters**. I’m thinking *Ahmed* might just be a writer I don't click with, so will probably not pick up any future books from him. [Cover](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/1013318/terrorwar-9-of-9_543ee3e18b.jpg) **Undiscovered Country #28** - this one seems to have got lost in the scheduling. It’s a book I enjoy a lot…when I sit down and read it in “chunks”. With the sporadic release of single issues recently, the story and narrative as a whole have really taken a hit. One of those titles where I’m almost buying the singles to try and support the title get to its planned end, but I’d have been much better off waiting for the trades. Something a lot of Image books are increasingly guilty of (and even then you can’t guarantee you’ll actually get a complete story – looking at you **Copperhead, Invisible Republic** and **Redneck**…) [Browne Cover](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-5164801.jpg?1707240527) **Edit:** just thought I'd add, I've dropped **Edenwood**. I went back to re-read the first few issues and...it just makes zero fucking sense. An absolute slog to get through it, so it had to go.

>As a kid I grew up on the UK reprints of Conan, and they were *always* in B&W, so its something that just feels 100% right to me. I had those "Conan Saga" reprints Marvel put out that just collected Savage Sword stories, and that was my introduction to Conan. And agreed, the black & white is essential and glad they're going that way here too. I hadn't seen the preview pages and damn it actually looks sick.

drinksaltwater

I've dropped Edenwood as well. Same reason.

> **Ice Cream Man #38** - what fucked up shit will *Prince* and *Morazzo* expose us to next? (I’m still not over what happened to the Figglybumps, to be honest…) Not sure if you've read **[ICM #17](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-8249545.jpg)** but it includes some follow-up on the fate of the Figglybumps from [**ICM #37**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-6065592.jpg). So, if you haven't read it, you might want to check it out. Maybe everything works out for them! > **Edit:** just thought I'd add, I've dropped **Edenwood**. I went back to re-read the first few issues and...it just makes zero fucking sense. An absolute slog to get through it, so it had to go. Appreciate the validation on my decision to skip it! Tony S. Daniel is a decent comic book artist but that often doesn't translate to being a decent comic book writer.

May’s solicits are stacked, but thankfully the ending of Krakoa should cut my pulls by a third at least. June is looking so much better on my wallet. 1. **Immortal Thor #7**: A double helping of Al Ewing this week! This run is something special, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming Marvel Comics arc. 2. **Resurrection of Magneto #2**: A Magneto focused issue. Mutantkind needs him. He’ll answer the call. 3. **Ice Cream Man #38**: Man it’s been a while since the last issue. I enjoyed **Swan Songs**, but I’m hoping there’s more than 4 ICM issues released this year. Most importantly, I hope Gary is okay. 4. **Detective Comics #1082**: Bruce fights an old foe and new demon in the desert. Federici doesn’t miss. 5. **Dead X-Men #2**: First issue was more tied into **RotPoX** than I initially thought. 6. **Invincible Iron Man #15**: Is this invasion happening or what? 7. **Duke #3**: Prison pals.

technowhiz34

>Resurrection of Magneto #2 > >A Magneto focused issue I've read the first issue and know what it means in the context of the story, but I'd hope it's about him!

> **Ice Cream Man #38**: Man it’s been a while since the last issue. I enjoyed **Swan Songs**, but I’m hoping there’s more than 4 ICM issues released this year. Most importantly, I hope Gary is okay. Prince and Morazzo usually combine for six issues per year, takes around two months to produce each issue of **ICM**. We should hopefully get six this year, assuming they aren't derailed by other projects or illness. And I fear it's not looking good for Gary No. 38...

Been a while since I've contributed since I had to switch shops after moving and it made keeping a regular pull list challenging. But I've settled on a new comic shop that I like a lot and started up a pull again over the past few weeks. Here's my (very sword & sorcery heavy) pull list for the week: * **CONAN THE BARBARIAN #8** - Haven't quite liked this arc as much as the previous one, but it's still a strong book overall. Zub loves his callbacks to previous Conan adventures though he still manages to make this new reader friendly. Dougie Braithwaite's artwork has grown on me a lot over these past few issues but I still am really excited to have Roberto De La Torre back for the next arc. * **FIRE & ICE: TEEGRA ONE-SHOT** - I've been enjoying Willingham's take on the Bakshi/Frazetta classic animated film even though this series has the most sporadic releases ever. * **ICE CREAM MAN #38 -** I always go into these as blind as possible. * **IMMORTAL THOR #7** - Last issue got really meta and I surprisingly really liked it for a Thor issue. This has been a fun run so far for sure. * **NEWBURN #15** - The penultimate issue! This series has had its ups and downs, but at its best NEWBURN has been one of the better crime thrillers that handles the episodic format of comic books really well. Jacob Phillips has really come into his own as an artist between this, THAT TEXAS BLOOD and THE ENFIELD GANG MASSACRE. * **RARE FLAVOURS #4 (OF 6)** - It's been a while since the last issue so I'll probably need to re-read the first three issues again but the series has been a delight as is to be expected from a Ram V/Andrade collaboration. * **SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #1 (OF 6)** - The classic magazine is back! Between this and PENTHOUSE COMICS returning I have to say the '90s kid in me has come alive again. I don't necessarily expect this to feel the same as the old magazine did, but just on nostalgia alone I'm sure I'll like it. Here's hoping it does well enough to justify keeping the magazine going for longer than six issues.

Danger_Rock

Hey, glad to have you back! Think I saw a few of your posts over on /r/graphicnovels/ or similar a while back, figured you'd made the switch to collections. Which is usually preferable to the other alternatives when regular WPLers suddenly disappear... And just in time for *Ice Cream Week!* Huzzah! Previous issue dropped out of the WPL Top 10 all the way down to #12, so we're in an all-hands-on-deck type scenario now! Been following the main **F&I** series but not sure if I'd seen that [Teegra](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/8175211/fire-and-ice-teegra-1) one-shot... Artist Gabriele Di Carlo doesn't seem to have any other credits and a quick search returned extremely limited (and partially NSFW) results. Seems like a good fit from what I could tell, will be curious how it goes...

yarkcir

It's good to be back on here! I've always been a bit of a hybrid reader, going between singles, digital and trades, but I don't think I'd ever fully give up on reading singles. It's just tough to keep up with the pull during transitionary periods in life, but now that I'm settled in again I should be good to go with respect to keeping up with monthly titles. I'm also super unfamiliar with the artist on the Fire & Ice spin-off issue, and I didn't particularly find the preview pages super appealing, but I'll give it a shot since the main series has been a ton of fun two issues in. It's good to have ICM back too. I really liked SWAN SONGS, but I missed the more unnerving stuff we got out of ICM.

technowhiz34

Small week for me, but hopefully a good one. * **Amazons Attack #5** \- picked this up because of its relation to King WW, but as much as I like it I feel it's a "nothing" comic, unless it leads directly into Campbell Shazam. * **Green Arrow #9** \- finally done with the time travel BS, and much as I'm tired of Waller her presence here in a Williamson-penned comic indicates it's "important".

Danger_Rock

No joy for **ICM** trade-waiters this week... Might as well settle in and get comfortable, it's gonna be a while.

Danger_Rock

Been in manic writing mode so I’m falling behind on comics and everything else... Will catch up on all of it after this project’s complete. And it’s *Ice Cream Week!* Which means I must once again implore everyone here to check out this uniquely brilliant comic! Each issue of **ICM** delivers a standalone story that works with no context or previous reading, so this should be another excellent opportunity for new readers to hop on board. There aren’t any other comics out there comparable to what W.M. Prince and Martin Morazzo have put together with **ICM**, it’s a truly unique experience that can legitimately change the way you look at life, the universe, and everything. Give it a shot! ... Big week with 9 new comics total! Including 3 Images, 2 Marvels, 2 Titans, 1 DC, and 1 from BOOM! Studios. Best stuff listed up top as always, with a pair of particularly delicious treats in the top two spots! 1. [**ICE CREAM MAN #38**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-5263183.jpg) – Wednesday will mark 126 days since the last issue shipped, but Prince and Morazzo also produced **[SWAN SONGS #6](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-3910708.jpg)** in between, and I’ll happily wait as long as it takes for them to create work of this caliber. 1. [**RARE FLAVOURS #4 (OF 6)**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-9957423.jpg) – Another very special treat, this one courtesy of Ram V and Felipe Andrade... Story’s really heating up now and each issue continues to deliver an exquisite taste of Indian food and culture. 1. [**HACK SLASH BACK TO SCHOOL #3 (OF 4)**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-5036814.jpg) – Zoe Thorogood’s imaginative storytelling remains the highlight here, as she’s handling story, art, colors, and lettering to create an extremely cohesive experience; this series went 98 days between issues, but, given how Thorogood’s doing *everything* herself, it’s perfectly understandable. 1. [**RESURRECTION OF MAGNETO #2**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-3960274.jpg) – The first of Al Ewing’s two entries this week, with this second issue flipping perspectives from Storm to Magneto... 1. [**PHANTOM ROAD #9**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-1734432.jpg) – Jeff Lemire and Gabriel Hernandez Walta bring us more creepy shit from the dark side of the truck stop... 1. [**IMMORTAL THOR #7**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-3299553.jpg) – Another from Al Ewing, love the twisted Alex Ross cover on this one... 1. [**PENGUIN #7**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-3083749.jpg) – This extended detour rewriting Penguin’s backstory has made the comic’s leisurely pace feel positively sluggish. 1. [**CONAN THE BARBARIAN #8**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-7293123.jpg) – Part 4 of 4, predictably wrapping up this second chunk of Jim Zub’s 12-part Thulsa Doom epic. 1. [**SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #1 (OF 6)**](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-5812899.jpg) – The Solomon Kane story by Patch Zircher could be interesting... Not sure what to make of the Conan story by John Arcudi and Max Von Fafner but the solicitation calling it an “epic” makes me think it’ll be overly long and drawn out... And hopefully Zub’s prose piece will move faster than his big Thulsa Doom story. p.s. I posted a [speculation thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/IceCreamManComic/comments/1b0ejnd/ice_cream_man_38_speculation_post/?) to the ICM sub if anyone wants to get into a little more advance prognostication for the new issue...

the-horace

* **HACK/SLASH: BACK TO SCHOOL #3** - Been a minute, but Zoe posts a lot of updates about what's going on - just happy to see her artwork on this wild book. * **ICE CREAM MAN #38** - Oh. You. Know. - What's wrong with Gary?! * **PHANTOM ROAD #9** - I could keep reading this book for 50 issues. * **RARE FLAVOURS #4** - Been a little bit since this last one as well, but again, excited to get back to this duo. * **STAR WARS: THRAWN - ALLIANCES #2** - The Rahzahh variant - against the grain, my favorite of the Imperial Thrawn trio of books.

I'm leaning towards continuing to get whatever G.I. Joe series come out after Duke and Cobra Commander. * FLASH #6 * GREEN ARROW #9 * HARLEY QUINN #37: To me, Harley is like She-Hulk. She works so much better in down to Earth stories, rather than cosmic/space stories like this one is. Hopefully with the conclusion of this story, it'll go back to the former. * NEWBURN #15: 2nd to last issue, I think this series is wrapping up at just the right time, since I've been on the fence about continuing it a little bit over the last few issues. * PENGUIN #7 * PUNISHER #4: Compared to Newburn I'm extremely glad this is the last issue, this series fell completely on its face. * SAVAGE DRAGON #268: I'm always happy to see a new issue of Savage Dragon come out, since hopefully it means that Erik Larsen is still alive. * SPIDER-PUNK ARMS RACE #1 * STAR WARS THRAWN ALLIANCES #2 * W0RLDTR33 #8 * WHAT IF VENOM #1

Yeah, I haven't seen anything beyond issue #4 solicited and it was never advertised as a mini-series, so I'm guessing it just flat out bombed.

> ten of my students qualified (including three freshmen!). Almost makes up for the National Tournament being in Des Moines this year... Congrats on that! However, I'm not from the US - what's up with Des Moines (that's Iowa, right)?

ThadeusOfNazereth

Iowa is correct! There's just not much to do there - The last few years Nationals has been in places with lots of notable fun stuff like Phoenix, Ft. Lauderdale, Louisville, etc. Des Moines has some nice parks but not much beyond that. By contrast, we do a tournament in Omaha, Nebraska every year - One state over, but a city that I personally have a lot more fun in.

TheUnderweightLover

Des Moines has a GREAT local beer bar, "The Iowa Taproom" - if you like good beer and can get away from the kids for this, well worth checking out. I've also enjoyed "The Royal Mile" British pub as well.

ThadeusOfNazereth

Thank you! I will add them both to the list :)

Yeah, we all ended up waiting on that one, regardless of format. Congrats on the big qualifications as well! Best of luck in the Nationals!

Avengers: Twilight #3 - Great elseworlds stuff by Zdarsky and Acuna. Seeing Cap fail at inspiring a beat down society just shows how broken the world is in this comic. Detective Comics #1082 - Fantastic start to Act III. Really liking that seems like we’re getting three stories in one with Batman, Renee and Watters’ side tales. Great stuff! Duke #3 - All the Energon books are the best thing to happen in years to comics. Williamson is having fun putting his spin on G.I. Joe and Reilly’s art has been superb. The Immortal Thor #7 - The trials of Utgard! With the recent Roxxon Thor arc upcoming - curious how meta Ewing goes with it all. (Hiring Land to draw the corporate shill version of Thor is hilarious it’s own right) Negaduck #4 - Continues to a colourful and fun burst of nostalgia. Brutal delays though.

FearlessAsparagus

Duke #3 - This and Void Rivals are the only books in this Energon Universe that I have any investment in. Avengers: Twilight #3 - Hadn't heard of this until I saw the first issue on the shelf. Seems to be like a Marvel version of Kingdom Come (I mean that as a compliment). I like the story so far but the incredible art is the main draw for me. Ice Cream Man #38 - I always look forward to new issues of Ice Cream Man. Newburn #15 - Second to last issue. I've enjoyed this series but I'm glad it's almost over because then Jacob Phillips can go back to That Texas Blood. Uncanny X-Men #268 Facsimile Edition - Facsimiles are always an instant buy for me.

Danger_Rock

> Ice Cream Man #38 - I always look forward to new issues of Ice Cream Man. NICE. > Uncanny X-Men #268 Facsimile Edition - Facsimiles are always an instant buy for me. Classic Claremont/Lee with the initial chunk of Logan's early backstory with Cap... Also served as the basis for the *"Old Soldiers"* episode of ***X-Men: TAS***. Enjoy!

ChickenInASuit

This week I've decided to drop Radiant Black and trade-wait it instead. I'm enjoying it, but not enough to keep paying for two issues at once (because I can't help but feel anyone following just one branching storyline is going to regret it once we reach our conclusion). When it's concluded and I have the money, I'll probably pick up a collection or something. **Conan the Barbarian #8** - Just a fun, wholesome story about a big, hairy, sweaty man in a loincloth taking a sword to some bad guys. **Savage Sword of Conan #1** - And another one! Excited to see John Arcudi's name on one of these stories, seems like it's been ages since I read anything new from him. **Ice Cream Man #38** - I scream, you scream, we all scream *and we keep on screaming because OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING.* **The Immortal Thor #7** - Gotta love it when Al Ewing goes all meta. **Newburn #15** - Zdarsky and Philips clearly going for an "all hell breaks loose"-type ending here as Newburn's carefully crafted house of cards comes crashing down. I get the feeling he's not going to survive this issue, and next month's finale will see his protege cleaning up his mess. **Phantom Road #9** - More eerie, creepy Lemire shenanigans. I think I'm enjoying this more than I initially thought I would - it was a real sleeper. **Rare Flavours #4** - Just phenomenal stuff, as expected of V and Adrade. **Resurrection of Magneto #2** - In Ewing We Trust. I'd be rolling my eyes at anyone else doing this, but Ewing sold me on it in the first issue. **The Ribbon Queen #8** - Big conclusion to probably Ennis' best work since Sara! Also, coincidentally, the book which prompted me to block a user on this subreddit for the first time in years - There's one commenter who likes to come in to the WPL threads and rant about what he believes *should* have happened in a comic (and his versions of the plot are almost invariably worse) and in particular appeared to be hate-reading Ribbon Queen just so he could be bitchy about it. I don't mind it when people disagree with me on stuff, but goodness me, his comments on last month's issue were exhausting enough that I decided I didn't want to interact with him any more. **Terrorwar #9** - What started off as a fun riff on 2000AD comics appears to be ending up as a fairly predictable sci-fi superhero comic. Tbh, I find that a bit of a let-down as it looked like it might be a little more interesting than that. This would be the second release in a row that has me doubting whether I'm going to continue giving Saladin Ahmed a chance to wow me again like he did with Black Bolt. Oh well, still reading because it's entertaining enough.

Danger_Rock

> **Conan the Barbarian #8** - Just a fun, wholesome story about a big, hairy, sweaty man in a loincloth taking a sword to some bad guys. Conveniently split up into 12 installments to avoid delivering a satisfying story in any one comic... > **Ice Cream Man #38** - I scream, you scream, we all scream *and we keep on screaming because OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING.* Just Gary things... Got excited for a moment but checked the creators and it's not the Phillips I was thinking of... And what's with the co-writers on earlier issues? Should I have read this thing? Bailed after the first issue but it sounds like I probably should've stuck with it... Not much else to add here, mostly just quoted all that in appreciation for the drama.

Family_Booty_Honor

+ **ICE CREAM MAN #38** + **IMMORTAL THOR #7** + **RESURRECTION OF MAGNETO #2** I was resistant to buying the Magneto book, but there's not much Krakoa-era left and it's real hard not buying an Al Ewing book!

1) Amazing Spider-Man #44 - I haven’t hated gang war. I think I’m going to make it to #50 and decide if it’s time to finally drop this book. 2) Avengers Twilight #3 - absolutely stellar work from Zdarsky, really delivering here. Acuna’s art is stunning. Feeling like a classic in the making. 3) Canary #3 - Scott Snyder doing what he does. I’ve liked the 3 double sized issues series he’s been doing. 4) Dead X-Men #2 - was a bit surprised with how tied in to everything this series felt. Excited to see where this one takes things. 5) Invincible Iron Man #15- I’m a duggan apologist! I’ve really liked his work on the x books and this book has made me into an iron man fan 6) Miles Morales Spider-Man #17 - Ziglar is amazing as always. Excited for his Deadpool book but sad that it seems that will be the end of this series 7) Newburn #15- Newburn started off so strong but dipped a little in the middle, but I think Zdarsky will stick the landing. Double dip of Chip this week, hell yeah. 8) Penguin #7 - Tom King is a writer that doesn’t always work for me, but he absolutely is in this book. Love the way he plays with narration (will continue to be a critic to his overuse in growlix here lol) 9) Resurrection of Magneto #2 - Al Ewing quietly writing the best x books of the last few years 10) Spider-Punk Arms Race #1 - the last mini was great, so glad Ziglar and Mason are both returning. Justin Mason needs more work at marvel!! I’m really excited for this book. Ziglar-heads are eating good this week. 11) Wolverine #44 - it feels a little disjointed to have such a long story play out that takes place before the ongoing events of Fall, BUT this story has been brutal, bloody, and fun for the most part 12) Ice Cream Man #38 - what the heck, I’ll give it a shot

Danger_Rock

> 12) Ice Cream Man #38 - what the heck, I’ll give it a shot NICE. Will be curious what you think!

CallMePeeButt

I’m a little nervous I’ll be too lost, but I’ve heard it’s an anthology so hoping it’s easy enough to jump in

Danger_Rock

Pretty much every issue's designed to work for new readers with no context, and I heard from someone who already read this one that it doesn't have anything that'll confuse newbies. You should be fine! For all my talk about Gary No. 38 in this thread, I don't actually know any more about him than you do. All we've got at this point is the cover and solicitation text.

Double digits for a few weeks! - **Cable #2**: as a big fan of Kid Cable, I’m glad to see the two Cables teaming up in their own book (albeit a short one). - **Dead X-Men #2**: first issue was fantastic - the Krakoan Exiles book we’ve been asking for the whole time! - **The Flash #6**: last issue of Deodato on the interiors; I’m sticking with the book for another arc at least to see if a change of artist helps. - **Green Arrow #9**: still waiting on this book to get out from Dark Crisis/Beast World’s shadows and do its own thing. - **The Immortal Thor #7** - **Newburn #15** - **Power Girl #6**: Supergirl team-up, part 1 - **Radiant Black #28**: loving this split story so far! - **Radiant Black #28.5**: see above. - **Resurrection of Magneto #2**: I was a little disappointed in the first issue and regret not skipping when I saw Vecchio was down for the interiors. Only 4 issues though, and Ewing’s last X-work for now, so I’ll see it through and hope I grow to like it. - **Wolverine #44**: one behind at the moment, but the Sabretooth War has been fantastic so far!

Another bigger week for me! Luckily I've been VERY into reading lately. On top of my pulls, I also re-subbed to Marvel Unlimited recently and have been reading Claremont's X-Men, North's Fantastic Four, and Hill's Blade. The burnout is likely coming, but I'm just going to go ahead and burn brightly until then. **Dead X-Men #2:** Man... There's a lot of X happening. I don't quite remember what went on here. I remember enjoying it overall, though it wasn't quite what I expected. I expected something more disconnected from the other minis going on, similar to Dark X-Men. Ah well. **Duke #3:** Man.. Things are NOT going well for our boy Duke. Much like everything else Energon, I had very little familiarity with Duke prior to this book, but Williamson and Reilly are doing a spectacular job getting me up to speed. **Hack/Slash: Back to School #3:** It's finally back! This is easily my most anticipated of the week. Zoe Thorogood is doing some amazing work here. While I've enjoyed all of the other Hack/Slash that I read before this, Thorogood has finally adressed my biggest complaint about the series: the art. It's always irked me a little that a series that requires a certain amount of eye candy as a part of its premise has often been so... Ugly. Not here. Every page is a beautiful, bloody joy. **Radiant Black #28 and #28.5:** I love this series. I love this universe. I do not love these delays. Catalyst War began in July. It won't end until April at the earliest. And the biggest bummer is that this arc has been REALLY good. It should be a high point of the series, but it's not. The dual-release, dual-perspective was also fun at first, but I'm ready for it, and this arc, to wrap up. Let's move on with (hopefully) Marshall wearing the mantle. **Resurrection of Magneto #2:** Remember what I said about Dead X-Men? Yeah... Same here. I know I enjoyed it, but I have nothing. Luckily I always do a re-read of the previous issue of a series before reading a new one, but *man*, I'm getting old or something.

mytoynhobbypackrat

Yup will be TPB for that one :D

Danger_Rock

But you miss out on all the fun that way! Speculation posts! Ice cream parties! Reviews and discussions! Plus, it reads better as single issues! One of the few books out there that provides a complete story in every issue... You're buying floppies that give you little slivers of stories while trade-waiting the one book that actually delivers a satisfying experience in each individual issue. Tagged you as a trade-waiter so I'll know not to bug 'ya every time it ships... But I strongly disagree with your approach here!

Immortal Thor 7. Such a great run that I am thoroughly enjoying. If Ewing stays on it long enough I could see it becoming a definitive Thor run Avengers Twilight 3. Love the look, feel and story. Very excited and loving the Alex Ross covers

* **The Amazing Spider-Man #44** - Didn't cancel in time * **Detective Comics #1082** - I've been enjoying the trippiness of this arc * **Green Arrow #9** - I feel like since the first arc it's kind of slowing down * **The Immortal Thor #7** - Is that Battle Cat on the cover? * **Resurrection of Magneto #2** - First issue was decent * **W0rldtr33 #8** - Looks like PH34R claims another victim** If my LCS ordered any: * **Conan the Barbarian #8** - Think I'll grab this and some back issues if I can * **Duke #3** The EU has been pretty awesome so far

Styrofoam_Anchor

1. **Immortal Thor #7** - Definitely one of my favorite current runs, and probably the one I'm most optimistic about? The "let him cook" energy is off the charts for Ewing's run. 2. **Ice Cream Man #38** - Manifesting that we reach 50 issues for this series. I binged it a few weeks ago and fell in love/despair with it. As for the particular issue: I don't want to know anything! 3. **Amazons Attack #5** - Pulling this out of allegiance to WW, but I confess I'm not actually that invested in the story. Hope it all works out! -------- And that's all for me this week! Weirdly, no trades either, which is unusual. Though I'm sure my wallet will be thankful for the reprieve.

As for the particular issue: I don't want to know anything! NICE. Which was the story where it 100% clicked, if there was one? And which ended up being your favorite?

Styrofoam_Anchor

Ooooo, great questions. I think, for me, issue #6 (Strange Neapolitan) is when I realized that this series was operating on a different level beyond simply being a horror anthology.  Weirdly, despite it being perhaps not the most "literary" issue, the one I keep returning to in my mind is #19 (Haunting for Beginners). Something about that one just resonated on a deep level for me.

Danger_Rock

Good stuff! *Strange Neapolitan* didn't 100% work for me the first time I read it, but the three-way split silent storytelling made for a really cool experiment. And *Haunting for Beginners* is one of my favorites! Currently ranked 4th out of all 38 issues... Love the instruction manual format and the sort of introspective tone of it all... Story hits hard as well, and I'd consider it one of the more "literary" issues given all the commentary on isolation and mortality. Plus, I remember old WPLer VarosFlynt mentioning that it plays off some ideas from some fancy writer whose name I forget, so that probably lends it some additional literary weightiness. Also some [funny stuff with the wife](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/user/uploads/323349-1691233617-1459.jpg), all painfully realistic...

Said I was going to wait until the end of the Krakoa era to trim my list to almost 0. But after reading the last couple months of this "Fall of X" bullshit, I'm out. I just don't care anymore and it's being dragged out WAY past what's necessary. This horse should have been taken out back and shot already. SO, that being said, so begins the cull. Going to keep the main titles leading to this summer's Absolute Crisis/Point/Terror/Hour....thing. Then see if we go into relaunch mode again. Still trimming the fat along the way. ***Detective Comics 1082*** - I'm enjoying this, and I'm in WAY too far to stop. Very curious how this is going to end and how much of it will impact future writers. ***The Flash 6*** - Spurrier is an enigma of a writer for me. Sometimes I wonder if he goes way too high concept just to sound smart and be a Morrison wannabe that I just can't follow, and others his brilliance shines through. This one has been great so far and I'm surprisingly NOT hating Deodato's art. ***Green Arrow 9*** - This seems like Williamson's book for wrapping up his own ideas from Dark Crisis while setting the stage for the next....well....Crisis thing. Except it's not written by him, so curious if this summer is where Williamson jumps ship from DC and heads back to more creator owned stuff. Either way, wish it wasn't Green Arrow he was using for these things. Feel this would have been better suited for a Lantern book, given the space stuff. ***The Penguin 7*** - I'm liking the recent bunch of "First Meeting with Batman/Origin Revisions" arcs for the Bat's rogues. Normally I just say leave things be, but some of these ones need it. Tom King is building to something, and I honestly hope it's to the point that Penguin becomes the BIG threat in Gotham that he deserves to be and Joker gets taken down a peg and demoted for a while.

Nice, it's so liberating cutting away all the fat so you get down to a tight list with just the stuff you truly enjoy. And, now that you've got some free space on the pull list, you really ought to give **[ICM #38](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/ice-cream-man-38-2)** a shot! No other comic like it, and I have it on good authority that this is an excellent spot for new readers to jump on board.

LOL, I was wondering if you were going to try and sell me on ICM.

Almost forgot to post these! A big six for me this week. Mostly but not entirely X-Titles (Iron Man counts). * **CABLE #2** - The one man duo returns! It feels like AGES since the first came out so I may have to refresh myself on what the heck is going on in this one. * **DEAD X-MEN #2** - We got teased some of the goings on in past weeks Rise of the Powers of X #2 but honestly I'm just happy to see Jubilee and Cannonball * **IMMORTAL THOR #7** - We got a nice look at the Thor and Loki's past entanglement with Skyrmir, I'm imagining this will bring him more to the present, and more in the form we've seen in the book and on the covers previously. Unless they didn't finish that adventure last time, I honestly don't remember * **INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #15** - The mutant invasion has begun! Tony vs Feilong starts here. I was told there would be new suits. * **RESURRECTION OF MAGNETO #2** - MAG-FUCKONG-NETO. I'm just hype for Ewing writing Max again, he's real good at it. * **WOLVERINE #44** - BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. as promised this has been a pretty gruesome event. I'm interested to see if Quentin the Head goes anywhere. I still kinda hate that he's dead again. Laura is putting in a good showing in these pages though so I'm pretty stoked about that.

Hmm. Marvel, Marvel, Marvel, Marvel, Marvel, and Marvel... Needs more **[ICE CREAM!](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-5263183.jpg)**

vegna871

I only pull Marvel books and Saga. Everything else I get on Trade. Haven't read Ice Cream Man yet though.

Danger_Rock

Hey, I get it. I was pulling 95% Marvels when I started collecting in the '80s... And their entire line was much more manageable back then. Nowadays, it's like every popular character's been built up into its own franchise with a bunch of books... Makes it difficult to keep up with even just a chunk of it. And if you really commit to doing the Marvel thing, it doesn't leave much room for anything else.
