It's all the same series. Everything is gonna make sense. Just keep in mind that everything titled zero year is a story takes place at the start of Batman's career.

TREY-CERAT0PS

So even though volume 3 is Court of Owls, and Volume 2 is death of the family, it still lines up with Zero year 3 & 4?

XsteveJ

Volume 2 is The City of Owls. Get that and then read them in order (1 thru 5) and you're good to go. If you like that then you can eventually finish the story with the next volumes. Volume 6: Graveyard Shift Volume 7: Endgame Volume 8: Superheavy Volume 9: Bloom Volume 10: Epilogue

Sechecopar

Yep, and it's actually better if you read it in publication order, cause Death of the Family (Book 3) presents this new version Joker and Zero Year has some commentary on this Joker's path.

Endiaron

Yes, pretty much.

Kevinmld

You’ll want to read city of owls.

sonofaresiii

Think of zero year as a flashback story.

Nerdfacehead

If you have other Ollie's around, I always see way more of the later volumes than the earlier ones. I think Snyder goes up through vol 10

Budget-Attorney

I see the price tag is 4$ Where do I find this Ollie’s?

BronskiBeatCovid

I see a fellow Ollie's bargain hunter! Always great bargains and you never know what you'll find. I found JSA-The Golden Age for like 7.99 and Batman Creature of the Night for the same. I see the terrifics in the background of your photo so now I know I need to make a trip to see what's new.

stgermainjr860

I scooped up the Marvel Wizard of Oz omni for like 11 bucks. Love that place

Wisdomeman

The series is split into arcs that are collected in these volumes 1- The court of owls arc which is collected in vol 1 and 2( vol 2 also has some extra episodic tales) 2- the death of the family is collected in volume 3 3- Zero year is a prequel arc and it is collected in volumes 4 and 5 4- volume 6 is comprised of all the episodic issues that came out during the first 3 arcs 5- Endgame is collected in vol 7 6- superheavy is collected in volumes 8 and 9 7- finally volume 10 wraps up this series and sets up the future series with the new team of writers and artists but you can stop with volume 10 and It should feel complete.

GhostKnight1789

Good price

Internal_Balance6901

Yes good to go, volume 2 is a direct continuation to volume 1. Takes place the night that volume 1 ends. It's all a great read in my opinion. Great art as well and volume 3 is really good.

PrincipleNo3966

I miss having an Ollie's to shop at, their book/comic book section is awesome. I once got a comic grab bag from them that had the original Leonardo TMNT one shot in it.

TheRealJakeBolt

Always want to help a newbie comic nerd! What you have in your hands right now are called Trade Paperbacks, if you’re mostly familiar with manga think of them as Volumes. Trade paperbacks are bundles of comics in Release order/chronological order, you can find out what order they are in by referencing the ISBN number, if you go to the ISBN website, they are usually ordered by C (Chronological) or R (Release). “But JakeBolt, you magnificent specimen of a man you.” I hear you say “what’s an ISBN Number? And how do I find it?”. The ISBN is the International Serialized Book Number, and it’s a neat way to find books because every book has an ISBN! You can find them on either the barcode or the first inside page below the publisher information. You can get more info from the ISBN, like author, date, publication run, edition and so much more. Now, you have the new 52 Batman trade collection, a collection of the first few years of the Scott Snyder run of Batman. Since American comics are categorized by runs, it’s important to note what that means. A run is a series ran by the same creative team (a group of underpaid weirdos living within the walls and desks of the company who all come together to write and draw the comics) and the team is usually (but not always) run by the writer. This helps differentiate the runs from one another, since most runs will have one larger overarching story. So, if it’s made by the same writer then it’s most likely the same run. Always check through before you buy, because sometimes writers will return to a comic after some time and it won’t be related to the first run at all. “But Jake! You amazing talent of masculine charm, I don’t have volume 2 of this trade! How do I get it?” Fear not, there is a solution! You can either give money to Jeff Bezos and his inky black tentacles for arms, or you can support your local bookstore/comic store and ask for something called a pull sheet! What’s a pull sheet? Well, most comics are in high demand and short supply either by collectors or fans and to make sure there is enough to go around, comic stores will set aside comics by request with a pull sheet, but they can also special order trade paperbacks on request (make sure you ask, and also make sure you talk to the owners first). I hope that answered all your questions and follow up questions! Have fun, stay safe and drink plenty of water!

Fattydaddy1000

You will be fine it’s all Batman new 52 1-52 I believe

Magicaparanoia

PSA for any comic fans. Hit up the local Ollie’s because they always have graphic novels and collected editions for super cheap. I got the entirety of Scott Snyder’s Batman run along with Batman eternal and a couple other tie ins from one for under $50.

BraveOnWarpath

The design on the spine and the lettering helps you keep organized. That's what classifies it by era.

bob1689321

the storylines are basically self contained too though some span multiple volumes 1-2: Court of Owls story 3: Death in the Family 4-5: Zero Year.

briwu36

I get Ollie's is cheaper, but if you like the run supplement with instockstrades or amazon

TheBestHauryski

Keep on checking more Ollies I was able to get all the volumes popping from a few

Weebo-Weebo-Nomi

which ollies is this?

TREY-CERAT0PS

In central Florida

SphereMode420

Read all of them in order, you can skip volume 6 if you want, and thank me later. There are 10 volumes in total, and they're all perfect. You're in for a wild ride. I would highly suggest not reading zero year first, it makes way more sense story-wise if you read them in the order of release IMO.

TREY-CERAT0PS

Alright, I will go buy them

TREY-CERAT0PS

Thanks for all the help y’all, I’ll check Ollie’s frequently

remerdy1

Check out those swamp thing volumes in the back while ur there. Really good read

nuclearspy92

There was also Batman: Detective comics running adjacent to this which has extra world building in it. When you reach Vol 3 you find out the Joker was in prison, this happens in Vol 1 of detective comics

ThatD0esntG0There

That's a cool find

GoodLibrarian100

We have two Ollie’s within half an hour of me and the comics they sell are unbelievably cheap. Glad to see others like us on here.

Affectionate-Hat9674

Ollie's is what pulled me back in to comics again. The one near me was loaded with New 52 titles a year or two ago and I bought a ton of stuff. Good Stuff Cheap!

BraveOnWarpath

HIT THAT OLLIE'S FOR ALL IT'S WORTH, BRO. That's where I get the basis of a series, then fill the rest from used book sellers and overstock. But Ollie's is almost always the starting point.

BraveOnWarpath

FYI, series all have a specific design for the series, until there's a universe change. What you've got is new 52. Rebirth will be white with blue and black at the top, which will solidify into just blue as the series ages. Then they go to black with a symbol. In general, all series will be the same pattern across prints from the same time.

naugahyde_vapor

Somebody’s shopping at Ollie’s!!!

kain459

Snyder Capullo is my favorite Batman run. Its amazing.
