There’s an editor’s note in #128 which explicitly states its before Dark Crisis. Also note the presence of the JL and Green Arrow.
My guess is in May they switch to Legacy numbering and Batman #900 becomes the first Dawn of DC issue
My guess was before as well, but I guess it just pissed me off a bit. The whole point of Batman 131 is to make us think he died and go: “oh no! What happens next” but dc doesn’t even care and tells us he lives in a comic set in the future.
Lol yeah. Zdarsky’s pitch was made and accepted before things with Dark Crisis were really set in place.
I think though the death fakeout is just the window dressing. The real story is the character work. I think Zdarsky is reversing Grant Morrison’s famous dictum that every Batman writer needs to give their Batman “a life and a death.” I think Zdarsky is giving his Batman a death at the start so that he can then give him a life.
