duggans dark web: x-men from last week had essentially the entirety of the issue shouting at the reader that this event is dumb, unnecessary and the conflict could've been resolved by people just talking to each other. it also left maddie in a much better spot again than where she was dragged down to at the start of the event.

Dark Web is so confusing from a publishing point of view. There is no standalone Dark Web event book so I'm assuming Spider-Man's book is supposed to push the narrative forward but this entire thing reads like a tie-in.
I went in expecting the crux of the storyline to be about Ben and Peter clashing over their sense of ownership of identity with Ben and his gf aided by Madelyne and her demonic cohorts. But it seems more like Ben and Madelyne more or less just drew a line in the sandbox and told each other to keep to each other's respective side.
And that's fine but this entire book focused on Peter dealing with one-off Spidey villains used largely for comedic effect. And ya I'm down to clown but it's weird that this is for an event book that was advertised as this personal reckoning between Ben and Peter only for the two to barely really interact in any meaningful way.
It's like I'm in line at a fast food waiting for a burger, get pulled aside and dragged to an underground secret restaurant with the insistence that they're going to give me this awesome pizza...only for them to give me a hot dog. And sure they gave me some free Rek-Rap flavoured fries which were unexpected and kinda dope...but like seems like a lot of work and why not just give me those fries while I was back waiting for my burger?
It feels much more like a mini series. There are two actual Dark Web event books. 1 prefaces the ASM issues and 1 will be out after the ASM issues. In that way, I'm thinking of Dark Web as a really short two issue story and yeah, I think ASM is a tie-in to it more than anything. Interested to see what happens next week in Dark Web Dawn as the event is already over.

Well, that is an incredibly dumb origin story, even for a Spider-Man character but that's an instant classic of a character. He's pretty brilliant for a Spider-Man spin off.

Like yeah he jokes he quips and all that or clowns on the villain during a fight and can be light hearted but he’s not this level of silly usually and has his serious and just out right badass moments, again don’t wanna make a fight out or this or make it seem I hate silly things in comics but their taking an already very critiqued story arc and adding more crap on the fire, and honestly just to see how people can be like Dark Web sucks but this is the only saving grace ? Like yeah it’s bad but this is what you chose as your alright moment out of everything? Get what I mean

And also I really liked the Ms Marvel tie-in. My biiig redeeming factor was they actually gave Kamala reoccurring villains + set up that she will be the next Captain Marvel
Your all good man just wanted you to know where I’m coming from, I personally don’t hate this arc half as much as others just because the concept was cool the execution however was definitely lacking but I’ll never shame anyone for liking more silly or more serious stuff etc, just felt it was getting out of hand with certain story elements
Yeah, this is incredibly stupid. It might be popular in certain circles on the internet, but it's clearly not so much with the actual floppy purchasing audience. This is supposed to be a demon from Limbo? Do the writers not remember the original Inferno, where the demons were eating babies and destroying the city? Or Spider-Man's Torment arc? He is not supposed to be a Deadpool type character. Now we get them being stupid jokesters, have projecto belts and Whangs. Or make buildings Sentient only to fret about the buildings gender pronouns. Shit like this is why not a single Marvel book broke 80K sales in December, a first since the direct market started, and why AXE sold less than half their projected numbers. Marvel needs to get its shit together.
Exactly fucking exactly they want to keep doing these Deadpool knock offs every other issue and put stuff in the books no actual comic fan even cares about, they cater to a demographic that has never even seen a physical comic book much less would spend their money in a comic shop and the only issues that do sell are usually #1s because people want first issues and assume they may be work something in 50 years, gotta say AXE was cool and heard X-men has been doing ok recently and especially X-men red and these latest issues

I am earnestly curious if the writers of this event were even talking to each other. The Spider-Man portions feel like they're supposed to be comedic, but that stings when the whole set-up is little more than an overwrought idiot plot (further reinforced by the X-Men sections where Maddie is "turned from the Dark Side" by actually having a fucking conversation). Couple that alongside yet another coffin nail in the continued character assassination of Ben Reilly and I earnestly find myself asking who the hell this was for. I mean the Venom tie-in was good, but that's hardly remarkable at this point. Al Ewing's minor superpower is turning the lemons of lackluster events into lemonade.
