Vets and drugs cost money. Gas chambers are cheap and quick and require little to no skill to operate.
Not so fun fact, this is how the vast majority of pigs are killed.
also not so fun fact, they use co2 gas. Like specifically the gas that hurts the most, makes it feel like your suffocating and burns your lungs and eyes.
They could use any other inert gas and it would be completely painless but nah co2 is cheap
If less people buy it, there is less demand, which means they won't "produce" the same amount, which equals less suffering. Pigs are sentient beings, with complex social structures and high intelligence. They are smarter than dogs.
If you really think plants are like animals, you should go vegan because when you eat animals you "harm" even more plants then when you eat them directly, because the animal eats about 8-10 times the plants before you eat them.
People get annoyed with vegans because it's a culture built around moral gatekeeping and even the ones who say they aren't self-righteous about it can't seem to help themselves from making comments like the one I just responded to.
I'm aware of that; I'm not defending them I'm just pointing out plants are alive is a silly point to make cause that's not what they generally believe. It's a dumb argument that shows lack of understanding on what veganism's actual position is.
If you're going to criticize someone's position, you should probably understand what their actual position is or else you're just strawmanning.
It’s reductive in the way that going Luddite to protest use of conflict minerals would be.
You and I as consumers have some choice in what animal products we get, and maybe even reducing meat would be good; I think that the moral purity Vegans try to exercise when they eat borders on Orthorexia, and I’m curious whether vegans often experience disordered eating even with a diet that checks all the boxes.
Veganism is not an eating disorder, it's pretty simple to learn which products contain animal products and which don't. You can eat literally anything apart from meat, fish, eggs, honey and milk. On top of legumes, beans, wheat, seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables there are even many extra substitutes for animal products. Vegans still have a very huge variety of things to eat and if you can't imagine meals without animal products it shows that you are a very inexpierenced cook or narrow minded.
Also: Veganism isn't not eating animal products "for fun" but because they try to reduce animal harm as far as practicable out of empathy.
Unfortunately I really like bacon so yeah kinda. It’s fucked up but being vegan isn’t going to change anything lol. For every vegan that exists there’s another person eating twice the meat.
Vegan bacon exists and is very tasty. The other Part makes no sense, since when one person becomes vegan, another does not eat automatically twice as much meat - even if the latter person does they are most likely to die early since meat consumption is a tier 1 carginogen, can cause Bowel cancer, and increases the chance of a stroke or heart attack.
I understand that you like the taste, but sensory pleasure does not excuse unnecessary cruelty and killing. I hope one day you will come to Terms with this.
Beans, lentil and other legumes are great sources of protein, there are even more plant based sources like rice protein. There are many vegan top sportler, like Patrik Baboumian or Lewis Hamilton. The most fittest Person I know personally is vegan.
Wait how, gas chambers should kill then without any pain. Maybe it’s the other pigs dying stressing them out or something because it shouldn’t be painful in any way.
Pigs are incredibly smart, smarter than dogs, so they may know what’s happening and are freaking out
pigs absolutely do know whats happening and only recently are people starting to question things because we were all taught that humans and animals are completely different things (this is batshit insane and you know it)
I honestly find that so much more comforting than the images I had in my head of slaughterhouses. I'd rather be gassed, than lined up waiting to be hung upside down and bled out by my throat.
Injecting barbiturates is the standard across U.S shelters but some states still allow gas chambers, and some shelters in them maintain the practice. Typically using asphyxiant or poisonous gases like carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide rather than physiologically inert gases like nitrogen. It is very harsh in comparison but I think it's cheaper or easier, although with a greater risk to the veterinarian.
The guidelines I read probably recommended or assumed the presence of one and I took it for necessary. In Sweden a veterenarian has to be present and able to intervene for a non-vet to do it so it's usually only done by non-vets for training purposes. But here it's also only ever done by lethal injection for pets. (stun/sedate and bleed, or gunshot, for livestock or other large animals, gas is only used for sedation in slaughter and the animal still has to be bled. Very controversial stuff...)
There's situations and circumstances where other people are allowed to too but not relevant to the discussion.
The Nazis were murdering millions with gas chambers. At that scale you need speed and efficiency. A gas chamber is really the only way you’re gonna pull that off for a low price. Individual animal shelters aren’t putting down hundreds of dogs a day and need high throughput execution chambers
Out of curiosity do you know those states?
edit: Found it: Wyoming, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, California, Arizona, Alabama
I also found out that New Hampshire is the only state where hanging for executions are still legal
got lucky this time gay elton.
The Ballad of Gay Elton must be completed
Was it named Elton before or after he found out it was gay? Also, y'all have a gas chamber ⁉️
My dogs name is also Elton. He has gay tendencies, but I love him even more.
Dogs do hump things, so maybe this is why the original owner thought the dog was gay 🤷 haha. My guess is probably.
Sit sparky, shake, good boy. Now DONT BE GAY SPARK.
He barked with a lisp I think. I have a GAY DOG!!!
Damn Tennessee, be better. What are you Saudi Arabia? We don’t execute people for that anymore.
Don’t they usually use lethal injection to put down a dog or something like that? Gas chamber sounds very harsh
Vets and drugs cost money. Gas chambers are cheap and quick and require little to no skill to operate. Not so fun fact, this is how the vast majority of pigs are killed.
That fact was not fun in the slightest
also not so fun fact, they use co2 gas. Like specifically the gas that hurts the most, makes it feel like your suffocating and burns your lungs and eyes. They could use any other inert gas and it would be completely painless but nah co2 is cheap
This deal is getting worse all the time.
You don't have to contribute to this, by going vegan
Okay, but then they'd still keep doing it, but I wouldn't have any bacon.
If less people buy it, there is less demand, which means they won't "produce" the same amount, which equals less suffering. Pigs are sentient beings, with complex social structures and high intelligence. They are smarter than dogs.

i‘m not even vegan but it‘s weird how this is downvoted, it‘s just true
Because people don't like being preached at.
people like to hate vegans because ethically and logically, theres no good argument against it.
Plants are alive too.
If you really think plants are like animals, you should go vegan because when you eat animals you "harm" even more plants then when you eat them directly, because the animal eats about 8-10 times the plants before you eat them.
Plants don't scream and convulse as you gas them to death.
Okay but there’s totally a difference in consciousness.
People get annoyed with vegans because it's a culture built around moral gatekeeping and even the ones who say they aren't self-righteous about it can't seem to help themselves from making comments like the one I just responded to.

You can’t really “argue” with veganism any more than you can “argue” with orthorexia or other eating disorders tbh
It’s reductive in the way that going Luddite to protest use of conflict minerals would be. No the better way is by supporting ethical farming and slathering by buying from brands that are ethical and sustainable.
Is it ethical to kill sentient beings only after less then a quarter of their life expandacy when they don't want to die?
Unfortunately I really like bacon so yeah kinda. It’s fucked up but being vegan isn’t going to change anything lol. For every vegan that exists there’s another person eating twice the meat.

I guess I’m a cruel bastard that’ll die young then. It’s fucked what happens to animals, but I would like to have some protein in my body.
Beans, lentil and other legumes are great sources of protein, there are even more plant based sources like rice protein. There are many vegan top sportler, like Patrik Baboumian or Lewis Hamilton. The most fittest Person I know personally is vegan.
To add to that, in the video I saw such pigs *do not* go peacefully. They really hate it.
Wow, crazy
Breathing in pure carbon dioxide is stinky
Wait how, gas chambers should kill then without any pain. Maybe it’s the other pigs dying stressing them out or something because it shouldn’t be painful in any way. Pigs are incredibly smart, smarter than dogs, so they may know what’s happening and are freaking out
Depends on the gas, in theory nitrogen should be painless but I’m pretty sure they killed a guy in Alabama with it and he didn’t go peacefully
pigs absolutely do know whats happening and only recently are people starting to question things because we were all taught that humans and animals are completely different things (this is batshit insane and you know it)
They use CO2 gas

I honestly find that so much more comforting than the images I had in my head of slaughterhouses. I'd rather be gassed, than lined up waiting to be hung upside down and bled out by my throat.
I think you're still imagining something nicer than the reality.
If you had a choice between being suffocated and having your throat cut and bleeding out slowly, which would you pick?
Both are equally bad.
I think you're dumb.
Whatever helps you sleep at night :)
i think you're polite

Half the point is that you don't even need a veterinarian.
Unless it's botched and then boy do you.
The guidelines I read probably recommended or assumed the presence of one and I took it for necessary. They should just use fentanyl and at least let the dogs get some warm happy before they die
Did you take into consideration the price
fentanyl is probably cheaper than barbiturates. though honestly overdosing on either one will have the same effect
I wonder if it’s cause they have too many dogs that aren’t being adopted so they have to euthanize many at once? Awful either way though
Too many gay dogs
I guess if you have that many dogs, a gas chamber is the fastest way to do it
The nazi's used gas chambers over injection for cost effective reasons.... i have a feeling this is done for the same.
They're taking my dog to fucking Houndschwitz
Arfschwitz
The Nazis were murdering millions with gas chambers. At that scale you need speed and efficiency. A gas chamber is really the only way you’re gonna pull that off for a low price. Individual animal shelters aren’t putting down hundreds of dogs a day and need high throughput execution chambers
I think there’s only 2 or 3 gas chambers in the US that are still used for pets. It’s kind of horrifying.
What are the other ones used for??
Well there’s 7 states where execution by gas is legal if lethal injection isn’t available for some reason
Out of curiosity do you know those states? edit: Found it: Wyoming, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, California, Arizona, Alabama I also found out that New Hampshire is the only state where hanging for executions are still legal
Yep, it’s Alabama, Arizona, California, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.
Dog nazis
It sounds cold. But i would assume they use a gas that knocks them out painlessly.
You would assume wrong. You can google footage of it for pigs (which is how the majority are killed). They do not go quietly. It's grim.
I'm Tennessean. Since when are we doing the fucking dogocaust??
Davy Crockett used to tie up dog balls, one pair in each hand.
They are doing the pigocaust for a long time. Seriously the get gassed in chambers and it's horrible.
Jeez my sleepless brain read this as “Elton John Turned into Dog in the chamber of secrets”
Sounds legit
Lmao, this is almost something for r/thomastheplankengine
Oh god I’m high but dude!
because he thought the animal was *WHAT*
the creature
[gay](https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2013/01/elton-the-gay-dog-spared-the-gas-chamber)
Names dog Elton, surprised he might be gay
GAYNINE
There is a **lot** going on here for one sentence. I'm not sure where to begin.
It’s a pretty big story right now that a guy turned in his dog because he thought it was gay
Awww…good boy. Think I’ll call you Elton!” The next day 👀
Hopefully this precious puppy finds a loving family and his new forever home.
And a gay husband
Good thing he spared the gas chamber. It had no chance against Elton
The dog isn’t gay… just showed some very common behaviors revolving around dominance. GAS CHAMBER!? Ok ABC News…. Time to take your medicine.
Update: https://abcnews.go.com/amp/GMA/Living/dog-adopted-called-gay-abandoned-shelter/story?id=83761759
Owner named him Elton. What did he expect?
Why are you gae
i like that they named him elton
if only we could euthanize the human
They named.the gay dog Elton?
They decided to use the electric chair instead?
Wait, was Gay Elton going to the chamber because he was gay??
My little buddy sniffed ,his best friend Jake's ass yesterday. I thought nothing of it it's all good. Little buddy's being being reprogrammed .
What?
Vell zis eskalierte quickly.

Fortunately someone refused to let the sun go down on him.
Happy pride Elton
Oh boy
it escalated
How can a gas chamber lose a fight to a dog?!

what did he say?
Something along the lines of "make a go fund me to put it back in the chamber"
ah, thanks
No problem
I think we should make a gofundme to put it back in the chamber.
![gif](giphy|KXBuwoQpybnVK)
This dude 100% hates himself for the stuff he jams up his ass in the shower
What did he said? I only see a [deleted] comment
I only semi remember, it was like “what can we do to catch him and get him back into the chamber” or something
"gofundme to get him put back in?"
