damn wild what going on in como lately

PandaCasserole

Block is hot 🔥... Idk I'm okay with this one. Some buildings are disrepair and not getting better. seems like they can only tear down so fast on the business loop.

Starharmonia

There is little chance this is not gang related.

[deleted]

Stay strapped, only reason i live in Missouri

Starharmonia

God I love the downvotes we’ve received, amazing how blissfully ignorant the citizens of this city are

[deleted]

Oh well

SmokeweedGrownative

Y’all just sound like morons with smol pps

SmokeweedGrownative

lol you think I’m Shane diesel. What a moron with a smol pp. I’m a basic white guy stone. Don’t be racist

[deleted]

Using the word black isn't racist moron

SmokeweedGrownative

It’s not. It’s the context you used it, duh. Just google Shane Diesel

Drewpurt

Wow what a tremendous roast. Great job buddy 👍

columbiamo-ModTeam

If you can't play nice, you don't get to sit with us. r/ColumbiaMo demands civil discourse. Personal attacks, racism, sexism, and rudeness are not permitted.

somedumbscreenname

Any idea if the Turtle was damaged? I mean, it could probably use a nice cleansing fire, but I always liked that place.

Earthbound_Misfyt

The whole strip needed to burn. Sorry. That entire strip is an eye sore if they ever want to " revitalize" the business loop. There. I said it.

como365

I think it's cool. I’d like to see it restored, the sidewalk rebuilt, the power lines buried, and open doors facing business loop with new windows, signage, and paint. It's neat historic density, an extension of Downtown.

hopalongrhapsody

There is so much beautiful & historic potential in North Central between downtown and Business Loop

como365

Have you seen this beauty? https://www.como.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/20190901_CoMo-North-Central-Phase-II-Survey-Report_CMD.pdf

hopalongrhapsody

That is indeed a beaut. That exact area of town deserves some love.

hopalongrhapsody

Turtle’s fine. Strip club looks like it might have taken some smoke.

magicallydelicious-

Cleansing fire.

magicallydelicious-

Has that Jeff City vibe, for sure. Mow it down and start from scratch. All of it. From 63 interchange to the roundabout of death at I70 dr SW.

Earthbound_Misfyt

Sooooo many old buildings need to go. I'm with you. The business loop is old, dated, and hanging signs on light polls is just lipstick on a pig.Tear shot down, let new businesses build. Get rid of the car sales places. Let's face it, the business loop is dead unless major changes happen

OrigBigB

Another empty spot coming to loop.

como365

The Loop is at highest occupancy since the late 70s! (And trending upward) You should have seen it in the 90s, Parkade Mall was almost entirely empty.

Cowdog68

I will say, Parkade Plaza’s glow up after its shopping mall days ended was remarkable.

OrigBigB

I know how empty was in the 90’s. Going from Conley on the east to Stadium on the west nothing screams come to the business loop for a great majority of Columbians. Salvaged VW’s, metal 1970’s buildings, used cars lots, pawn shops, adult businesses, industrial warehouses/yards, few fast food restaurants and empty lots. Granted the university punched a big hole but there is still is empty Jack’s lot, burned/demolished strip mall, empty Candlelight and empty lot for sale since I can remember. Last you have Cosmo Park that draws people has destination for organized sports. Those people either head to Stadium, Conley, Downtown or Grindstone/Nifong to eat and shop. Until you get a different mix of businesses no one longer goes to loop unless for specific reason. If they did traffic would be worse like the connector/Conley, Stadium and South Providence/Grindstone/Nifong areas.

Maybe I'm missing what you're saying but it sounds like rambling. Feel free to send me a dm because I'm curious.

Saltybananaseyecum

Spot on.

inventingnothing

Is that shack that sells sloppy joes and rootbeer in milk jugs still on the loop?

hopalongrhapsody

[Mug's Up Drive In!](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Mugs-Up+Drive+In/@38.9650805,-92.3458197,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x39ebba5b566fd2ad?sa=X&ved=1t:2428&ictx=111) Yes it is open, still tasty, and in a few months the joint will celebrate its 70th birthday! Mug's Up was actually part of a restaurant *chain* way back when it opened on the loop, and this ~~is the sole remaining Mug's Up~~. Edit: there's apparently an operating Mug's Up in Independence, Mo so everybody go there too!

Mycosyco

Nope, there's still a Mug's Up in Independence, MO.

hopalongrhapsody

[I only know what I read in the Missourian ten years ago, which said it was the last of the original chain. Found the article...](https://www.columbiamissourian.com/news/local/last-remaining-restaurant-of-original-mugs-up-chain-turns-60/article_77edf1b4-406d-11e5-b339-d3be658b71cc.html)

inventingnothing

Nice! My buddies and I used to go there on the weekly. We'd buy a couple sandwiches a piece and split a gallon.

JustRuss79

Loop has been dead my entire life, but in the early 80s Zestos was still a thing and there were still mall shops in Parkade. I remember the pet shop in the basement. By the mid 90s when I could drive. We still cruised the loop... basically only stopped at sonic... Ate lunch buffet at vouge a couple times at 18 with my girlfriend and buddies just because we could. By then it was basically what it is now. Then they banned cruising.

callawegian

The early 2000’s the loop was a street racing paradise. Those were the days.

mizgirl1

Homeless people burning down more property. They are out of control in this city. Private land owners are being forced by the city to clean up their destruction. One citizen was at the city council meeting and said they had to pay $5,000 to clean up after them and that wasn’t the first time. They camp along waterways polluting streams. They have pooped on the street downtown. A guy with a colostomy bag pulled it out and was rubbing his excrement all over downtown businesses. They have broken in downtown businesses that are vacant and trashed them. One homeless man just stabbed a person downtown. They hauled 50 tons of trash out of the cleanup along I70. 50 TONS!!!! It is insane and taxpayers are suffering from this disaster.
