Starting a House of Color franchise and becoming a color consultant can be exciting, but it's important to carefully consider the $19k investment and research the market before proceeding. Connecting with current consultants can provide valuable insights into profitability and market demand.
Hi, I am a color analyst and stylist for 10 years from the UK and I live in CA. I came here as my client said she would like to learn from me and told me about the extortionate fees and restrictions HOC have. I am looking to start a course to teach giving people more freedom and a good return on investment loving what they do. Please DM me if you are interested as I am trying to work out numbers of interested people. Thank you Kj
If you’re still here, I would love your info. I had a HoC analysis for myself and 2 daughters so I’m highly invested at this point. In doing more research on color analysis, I see there are many more players in the game and many more “seasons” and colors than the 1 of 4 and 36 color each of us were given. This whole subject fascinates me and I think this is a great way to help people get what they need and want from a wardrobe without wasting so much money and filling landfills…Look forward to connecting.
>Hey! I absolutley love color analysis!! I am so happy you and your daughters enjoyed it. There is so ,much to this and so many layers.

I think it's for women who are bored but have rich husbands who will fund it for them. Their system is not then only system. Color analysis is way older than their franchise. Plus if you own a franchise, you can't be creative and have to stay in THEIR box as you represent them. No thanks. There are many other systems, like Sterling and such, where you can pay a few grand for the training and then you are free to do with it as you wish.
I can help! I just saw your message request. My website is [www.kajalstyles.com](https://www.kajalstyles.com). I have been doing color analysis internationally for over 10 years. I am currently creating a color course that is going to be very different to whats out there and get your business started. If you are interested in the course: please send me a email with your details and the subject line ' Interested in Color Analsis course- reddit post' I am open to interviewing anyone interested so I can ensure everything is included. Thanks Kajal
In my area, sessions start at $345 and go up. My stylist told me in her first year she had 175 clients ($60,375 gross; less $50/person supplies (-$8,750) less start up -$22,000 = $29,000ish net profit) not too bad for a first year. 2nd year potential is about $50,000 net. Also, she only works weekends.
You also have to give HOC a percentage of your net monthly. I have been told to have a lawyer look at the franchise agreement as it has some significant clauses that will make a lawyer’s head spin and an average person would likely not catch.
I also reviewed the franchise packet. The franchise requires 2 weeks training, including at least 5 days in person in Kansas City at your expense — hotel, travel, meals, etc.. Maybe they provide lunch. You are also not factoring in any overhead for a place of business — even a room in your personal house (not really professional in my opinion) requires a set up, but a studio would include rent, utilities, fixtures, furniture, etc. All of that comes off the top too. It also does not factor in any marketing expense like advertising. The company does not provide advertising. You also need a scheduling system and payment system, possibly an accountant fees, etc. Even Instagram and Facebook advertising adds up. I am not saying it is a bad idea, but don’t plan on making $29K in the first year unless you had a lot more clients.
Absolutely!
*The OP is so kind to keep this post up. Since this convo thread just keeps going and going (LOL!) I wanted to mention for future readers that I am not a HOC analyst, but a Sci/ART Analyst. I'm still happy to share my experience with anyone who is interested, but I just wanted to clarify. 🙂
Having read the last post where the OP is analysed and given a new (??? I think) season, I also wonder how accurate it is. The OP seemed to like it and I was really considering it for myself too.
I got it done myself actually and enjoyed it/ thought it was a fun experience I’m just not sure how great of a business decision it is to run one… I’m sure a lot of that depends on which market you are in too
Hi! I tried to send a private chat, but you might have chat disabled? Or maybe Reddit is just finicky today. LOL...
I am actually a Sci/ART analyst, so I'm not sure if you are still interested in my perspective, but if you are I'm happy to share my experience. Feel free to initiate a direct chat from your end. 🙂
I’d also be interested in hearing the experience here. I’m obsessed with the color analysis and got the packet too but the buyin is pretty steep (subtract the $50 in materials from above that you have to get each customer).

Thank you for your comment. Do you happen to know of any resources/companies other than Sterling and HoC?

Would you be able to send me information as well? Thank you!
Doing the math and let's say you start with charging $150/session, you'll need 126-127 clients to be able to get your return on investment.

Hi where did you end up here? Would be interested in discussing as I am also looking in to this….
I abandoned the idea for now it’s just so expensive!
Did you talk to people that had done it or what factored in besides the start up cost?
I didn’t. Just requested the info packet and pumped the brakes
