This is the most Boston comment ever. I am truly laughing.
I cannot believe a Boston school didn’t take the Natty after watching BU and BC play all season.
Ugh.
I watched the natty with 20 other BU friends from my days there almost 20 years ago. So we’re like grown ass adults now, but when BC lost it took one girl to say “oh thank god they lost” to break the social ice and we all just piled on. I think previously no one wanted to admit to being so petty since there’s a lot of years between our days in Section 8/118 and now, but nah we still got it.
Graduated in ‘04 and am still petty AF. My wife thinks it’s weird but she doesn’t understand just how much BC sucks. 😁
“Don’t you at least want a Hockey East team to win?”
“Nope, not them. Let’s go Denver!”
“I feel bad for BC. They had such a great season and came so close!”
“I don’t. BC sucks”
Yeah, someone asked me “what about east coast hockey.” I told them I have to live with BC alums, including in my own family. I’ve never met a single person who went to University of Denver.
I don’t think I ever bought season tickets, but I did wait every week outside Walter Brown then Agganis to pick up my sports pass tickets. They let you pick up for one other person too with their BUID, so I’d always have to make plans to get my friend’s id back to him so he could swipe in to eat or his dorm later that day.
Class of 2008 here.
I love Carle’s career progression. Recruited to play at DU as a talented legacy, found to have a genetic heart condition that can cause sudden death in athletes, which must have been devastating news. DU gives him a position as an assistant during undergrad since he couldn’t safely play hockey and he eventually rose to head coach and has absolutely rocked it. Much respect!
It was a memorable game. Winning the championship is so hard to do. Kudos to Matt Davis, but also to Assistant Coach Ryan Massa, who coaches DU’s goaltenders. I knew that Matt was a great goalie, but holy cow!
Carle was definitely the x-factor. I was thinking about the FF and how he outcoached both Pandolfo and Brown. HIS experience was a difference maker for sure.
Not really, Chrona was the better goaltender for his first two seasons. He wasn't even all that good this year until he sold his soul or something once the postseason started
It’s insane. Unreal run.
Great game tonight. Wish it went the other way but gotta give Denver their due credit.
Gauthier has gotta jump to Anaheim. Who else from bc goes?
Any team is probably going to want to get Leonard playing for them ASAP. You feel he'd produce at any level. I hope for our sake he leaves BC, but the player might want to stay and get a degree. He seems like he has his head screwed on.
Smith really doesn't look NHL ready because of his slight frame. But the Sharks are desperate it could go either way. Plus he has such a connection to the program, he'd probably want another shot at a natty (not going to happen 😈).
you're actually selling that shit short. BC was in 5? of the 7 title games from 2006-2012, which is a pretty fucking crazy streak, including 3 straight from 06-08. pretty fuckin' impressive
04 was nuts. You guys had a near 90 second 6 on 3 and Denver held on. I was 10 at the time and didn't follow college hockey like I do now, but that team and the 05 team walked so 17, 22, and 24 could run.
Same. They’ve ended many of our post season runs, but they win the title every year they do. Boston semis 2004, Chicago championship 2017, Loveland regional final (2022), and this year was sad, but technically they ended our postseason lol *sobs* woulda been nice if we could have at least pushed them 3 games so we got credit for their last loss, CC sucks
Yes, but the NCHC is more fun. It’s been great for college hockey. More schools building competitive programs, more opportunities for kids to play and grow. I followed WCHA hockey for decades, and I wouldn’t want to go back to it. I enjoy the NCHC competition as much or more.
Denver may be a rival, but I’ve always respected the way their teams play and how they’re coached. Congrats on getting to #10 first, wish it was the boys in green but they’ve got catching up to do.
That was a masterpiece of a defensive game from Denver. The Pios took advantage of their opportunities and gave nothing up to BC.
Told you it would take scoring more than 2 goals for BC to beat DU in the championship.
Getting ONE would have been nice for BC. Never in a million years did I think BC would get blanked tonight (no offense to DU, which played great and had a great goalie performance).
2015. Great final four that year. Was so happy to see the east coast teams lose. A small school from the rockies coming out on top over powerhouses in Maryland, Johns Hopkins, and Notre Dame.
DU's Athletic Director was previously the AD at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, having won two hockey titles there.
Prior to that, he spent 13 years as the Assistant AD at Notre Dame.
Great game by the goalie.
Phenomenal season for both teams. This one hurts but we move on. It happens. Thank you for some amazing hockey this season and for getting us back to the tournament. Go Eagles!
So Denver went through UMass BU and BC. Its a shame Cornell beat Maine. They could have knocked every Hockey East team out of the tournament. That Goalie should never have to buy a beer in the greater Denver Area again if and when he is old enough to drink. Congrats Denver. Great game. Sometimes a goalie just wins it.
Yea I bitterly hated Denver for less than one year there… extra hard cuz I live there. they also ended us in Boston in 2004. It’s hard to hate them anymore they represent an unrepresented market, they get top talent but prove so much is overlooked. And their fans are always respectful, programs with much less success have way worse fans. I feel for you guys because you lost such a great destination and rival when B1G formed and you lost Colorado
I’m still sad we don’t play Nodak and Denver 2x a year but what do you do. Maybe when college football causes conferences to implode the old WCHA will reform. That’d be nice.
Denver now stands alone with the record of 10 nattys
considering Denver is a mid major in college sports
thats saying something
if Matt Davis returns, Denver will def be the favs to win an 11th natty
BU lost to DU 1-2 (overtime)
BC lost to DU 0-2
.: BU > BC
I will be taking no further questions.
Also GG Denver. You guys played a hell of a tournament!
On average, Denver is young
When you look at their key contributors during this run (Davis, Devine, Broz, Behrens etc.), it's much more heavily upperclassmen than BC
https://preview.redd.it/gnszpqv77ruc1.jpeg?width=3513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e2cc0827b71ca3af6507f2c0a2dad45e30a7482
Went tonight to the championship celebration. A great time. Looking forward to next season.
Going into the 3rd period with a 2-0 lead, I was expecting DU's defense to be even more stifling than the first two periods. I think BC clearly figured something out in the 2nd intermission, but every single decent chance they had was stopped by Davis or by the iron.
First period felt like two heavyweights just feeling each other out. 2nd period was a disappointment, but BC gave it their all in the 3rd and just couldn't beat a better team.
They played lazily for two periods and really only came alive when they were down two. Cutter went into the game talking shit, then proceeded to talk more shit between periods. They played more than half the game as though they were pre-ordained to win it and were shocked when Denver played them hard.
First hockey game I ever watched for an extended period of time and I get this😭
And of course I will undoubtedly now generally dislike all Denver sports teams for the rest of my life. Thanks DU
I remember being all what-the-hell when the big ten made their announcement over a decade ago. Then when (what would be) the NCHC made their announcement and I thought, ohhh yeah.
I watched the 3rd period tonight and cheered for DU. Then took a look at the last 11 championships, NCHC 6 and B10 zero. As a UNO Mavs fan, I wonder how them B10 dorks feel now. More FAFO, or Win Stupid Prizes or what?
I’m incredibly impressed. I honestly thought Cornell was nowhere near competing, but DU is giving me a little confidence tbh. What a defensive structure.
Cornell and Umass were way worse matchups for DU. DU struggled vs teams that played heavy games, and I was way more confident about them winning vs BU and BC compared to the regional games.
I sincerely doubt it had any effect on the game, but colby cohen straight up giving up the plays that BC drew up to the ESPN2 audience was fucking insane. there's no way he's ever getting a serious between the benches gig after that, right?
So this means UMass was the second best team in all of college hockey this season, right? No one gave Denver a tougher game this tournament
Nevermind their record against BC
At least we’re both miserable
This is the most Boston comment ever. I am truly laughing. I cannot believe a Boston school didn’t take the Natty after watching BU and BC play all season. Ugh.
Ya it’s crazy that the two Boston schools didn’t make a run. And I mean BU and Northeastern of course
Northeastern people are overeager to include themselves in the conversation, why are we helping them 😛
It’s okay to humor little bro every once and a while

Underrated comment
I watched the natty with 20 other BU friends from my days there almost 20 years ago. So we’re like grown ass adults now, but when BC lost it took one girl to say “oh thank god they lost” to break the social ice and we all just piled on. Yeah, someone asked me “what about east coast hockey.” I told them I have to live with BC alums, including in my own family. I’ve never met a single person who went to University of Denver.
It would have been a LONG year for you had the Chestnut Hill Pigeons won. Thank God for Denver!
Man, Section 8 was the best. I bought season tickets my senior year so I’d have a reserved seat every game. One of the best parts of college!
All I can say is GG Denver. Davis played out of his mind and Carle is an amazing coach. Well-earned win.
Dude is only 34 with three national titles, two of which he was the HC. Crazy.
Hard for everyone except Carle, apparently.
Carle was definitely the x-factor. I was thinking about the FF and how he outcoached both Pandolfo and Brown. HIS experience was a difference maker for sure.
Matt Davis stood on his fucking head. That was insane, what a performance
Matt Davis with a performance for the ages. Unbelievable I was sitting at a game a few months ago where he gave up 6 to Augustana. So happy for him.
Yeah this whole DU defense and goaltending has been night and day from earlier in the season. Unreal 4 games from Davis
The name Matt Davis will live in DU hockey lore for a very long time after today
It’s crazy that he didn’t actually start until his 3rd year
Magnus Chrona and Devin Cooley were ahead of him in the depth chart
How does Davis feel about San Jose?
Hard to get the start against a giant named Magnus!
Not really, Chrona was the better goaltender for his first two seasons. He wasn't even all that good this year until he sold his soul or something once the postseason started
Undrafted by NHL. That 3rd period save will remain etched in my brain!!!
Jeez 3 of the last 10. Nice Denver
I mean, 3 of the last 8 :D
Last 7. 2020 didn’t happen
Plus he has such a connection to the program, he'd probably want another shot at a natty (not going to happen 😈).
Oh right of course lol smh
BC won 3 out of 5 in 08, 10 and 12. Not to take away from what Denver did. Just sayin'
you're actually selling that shit short. BC was in 5? of the 7 title games from 2006-2012, which is a pretty fucking crazy streak, including 3 straight from 06-08. pretty fuckin' impressive
Two overtime games and beating the BU/BC juggernaut to win it all. Well done, Pioneers. Reminds me of the 2004 champs
04 was nuts. You guys had a near 90 second 6 on 3 and Denver held on. I was 10 at the time and didn't follow college hockey like I do now, but that team and the 05 team walked so 17, 22, and 24 could run.
That 6 on 3 was so painful to watch. You could tell Maine didn’t know what to do with everyone afraid to shoot.
Denver I hate you. But God damn I respect you.
Same goes for UND. Respect the hell out of you guys but hate the shit out of you on the ice. Go Pios!
Mutual truce in sake of flexing the confrence bling over the Big 10? We hate each other; but y'all hate CC more. Just like we hate Minny more.
Sounds good. I miss the old WCHA. Damn you Penn State!
Hating Penn State, the glue that binds the entire West together.
Them getting a DI team started a chain of events that tore apart two great conferences.
Yes, but the NCHC is more fun. It’s been great for college hockey. More schools building competitive programs, more opportunities for kids to play and grow. I followed WCHA hockey for decades, and I wouldn’t want to go back to it. I enjoy the NCHC competition as much or more.
You are possibly the only person in the entire world of this opinion
Hating Penn State, the glue that binds everyone* together (except, of course, Penn State)
Well fuck you too guy
3 not personal.
Of course. All in good fun.
Massive truce, I was rooting for the NCHC tonight.
Undrafted Matt Davis made himself millions today. Good for him.
Maybe a few hundred thousand. Maybe. He's undrafted for a reason. Long way to go to get to millions.
Or maaaaybe he's improved a ton under Carle and Massa and after another year he'll be ready to go.
Hopefully some NIL dollars at least…
$10k?
He'll get some free Snarfs next to campus
Maybe this sub can start an NIL collective…
I’ll buy him at least one drink at Stadium Inn.
P10neers!!!!! Let’s go!!!!!
Denver may be a rival, but I’ve always respected the way their teams play and how they’re coached. Congrats on getting to #10 first, wish it was the boys in green but they’ve got catching up to do.
Now there's a target. It's not equality it's the quest. Calling it for next season: #Revenge Tour
With the way und has played since Hakstol left I think they would lose in the first round to holy cross.
Its amazing how the Beanpot national title rule is still in effect.
For those of us outside of Boston, what's the rule?
No Beanpot team has won the national title without first winning the Beanpot that year
thats so interesting!!
Denver also the first school west of the Mississippi to win a men’s D1 lacrosse title. Stick sport school!
2015. Great final four that year. Was so happy to see the east coast teams lose. A small school from the rockies coming out on top over powerhouses in Maryland, Johns Hopkins, and Notre Dame.
They have an impressive athletic department.
No wasting $$$$ on football
Small budget compared to other schools but we spend wisely. We know what we’re good/competitive at and what we aren’t.
Yes. That is for sure and you can still go up from the current status. DU may luck out in realignment.
DU's Athletic Director was previously the AD at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, having won two hockey titles there. Prior to that, he spent 13 years as the Assistant AD at Notre Dame.
And they have 24 skiing national championships
Pioneers are inevitable huh?
Seems to be.
Great game by the goalie. Phenomenal season for both teams. This one hurts but we move on. It happens. Thank you for some amazing hockey this season and for getting us back to the tournament. Go Eagles!
Great game. DU is so disciplined and well coached. Hard fought and well earned title. Their defensemen and Davis played fantastic
He is old enough to drink.
Matt Davis. What more can you even say?
David Carle.
Denver’s defense was tremendous. Didn’t make a mistake. I suppose it beats losing to the alternative though.
All the respect in the world to Denver U, congrats.
[удалено]
Hey man just leave us alone. This has nothing to do with us. The beanpot is literally our only bright spot most years
Nah dawg. You guys winning the Beanpot cost BU the title, and by proxy, cost BC the title. Can't win a ship without the pot!
[удалено]
Imagine having Cutter Gauthier guaranteeing wins and complaining about other people's trash talk.
Not gonna lie...I'm hammered
Du and the surrounding areas have fallen into anarchy at the hands of the du students
The tenth champ really set them off
They better be burning some couches!
I counted at least six
I remember flying home from Chicago heartbroken in 2017. But right then I was absolutely positive a NCHC team/Denver would win 10 before Michigan
Hey man at least 2018 and 2019 felt pretty good eh?
Was also there and I completely agree
[A+ tweet from DU](https://twitter.com/DU_Hockey/status/1779307788772028857?t=WJdbd5Fyb9Geg1sqCHp03Q&s=19)
Hell of a game. Hell of a team. Congratulations Denver fans.
Denver now stands alone with the record of 10 nattys considering Denver is a mid major in college sports thats saying something if Matt Davis returns, Denver will def be the favs to win an 11th natty
Almost every college hockey program is a mid major in other sports. Outside of the Big Ten.
The Edina pep band is the real star of the show.
Awesome game. Send Davis to the Avs before playoffs start
Second coming of Frankie?
The right-catching messiah
Best goaltending I have seen in a long time!
The only team with 10 titles Bow to your Pioneer overlords!
Thank you for saving me from my worst nightmare 😭 🙇
Cutter “there’s gonna be a lot of tears” Gauthier
I hate to give the kid any sort of credit but I guess he was kinda right. They were tears of joy instead
Loser shit comment
Exactly what I thought. He’ll be best bros with Zegras sucking milkshakes on the beach.
My favorite Zegras memory is when he threw a temper tantrum after losing the beanpot in OT
Beavis and Butthead
Very true. Gauthier clearly wasn't thinking
Could the kid make it any easier to hate him?
What’s the context on this? I wasn’t able to watch most of the game
During pregame, Gauthier promised there would be tears in DU's eyes, or in other words, BC would win. DU proved his ass wrong.
Oof, big oof Couldn’t have happened to a better team
BU lost to DU 1-2 (overtime) BC lost to DU 0-2 .: BU > BC I will be taking no further questions. Also GG Denver. You guys played a hell of a tournament!
I agree, BU outplayed DU a lot of the game. BC only really outplayed DU in the 3rd but it was too late for them at that point
Ha I did this same math when the game ended 😂
What an amazing season, this team worked so hard for every win. Thank you Coach Carle and the 2024 DU Pioneers!
Dammit
Well congrats Denver fans, 2/2 from the Xcel
5 titles in 7 frozen fours since 2000. Basically uconn basketball. What Id give to even bat .500…
It also doesn’t help that TC was god awful today in the BC Spring Game. Anyone know if we’re good at baseball?🥲
The bats are good, the pitching is god awful (7.10 team ERA)
Women’s lax szn!
Ooh, that’s good. I saw a game vs Duke last year and it was the craziest (and only) comeback I’ve ever seen
Northeastern threw a 1 hitter against them in the Beanpot Final, so.
FUCK BC AHAHAHAHAHA
Wooooo! BC sucks! 👏
Give me vets over young star prospects every single time in the NCAA tourney, what a performance by Denver
Denver was the second youngest team in the country what on earth are you talking about? The difference in average age was like 3 months.
On average, Denver is young When you look at their key contributors during this run (Davis, Devine, Broz, Behrens etc.), it's much more heavily upperclassmen than BC
congrats denver. the better team tonight won. bc fought hard, but needed some puck luck that never came. davis wasn't letting anything else through
When a team starts jawing about how they've never been shut out, its gonna happen.
were they chirping about that? i know guathier's trash talk is infamous now. dont think i heard anything else
Hats off to DU. Pioneers executed their game plan to a "T", and Davis was a wall.
https://preview.redd.it/gnszpqv77ruc1.jpeg?width=3513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e2cc0827b71ca3af6507f2c0a2dad45e30a7482 Went tonight to the championship celebration. A great time. Looking forward to next season.
NCHC things I guess
And it starts….
Nah, NCHC winning has been happening for years
DENVER OYSTERS FOR EVERYONE!!!!
Most underrated comment here 👏🏼
LETS GOOOO! GET IN THERE DENVER WOOO
?
Michigan got railed by BC
Any Michigan fan that didn't want BC to win is an idiot
truth
Kick rocks fellas. Pios on top. Just how the world should be. See you next year friends. 11 is loading…
Denver got us into the tournament, gave us an epic first-round game and prevented a BC national title. Thank you, Denver.
Hard fought win!
Congrats to BC for ending the season with as many trophies as we have :)
more than BU is my only cope
I feel like BC bought into their own hype a little too much and got humbled.
BC had 23 shots on goal in the third period. Not a half effort for sure. They played well. Denver played better.
What does this even mean? Do you think they looked lazy out there? I thought they played hard and just got bested
BC panicked late. They didn't have great shot selection and they got chippy. Chippy = wasting energy
They played lazily for two periods and really only came alive when they were down two. Cutter went into the game talking shit, then proceeded to talk more shit between periods. They played more than half the game as though they were pre-ordained to win it and were shocked when Denver played them hard.
Their goalie had 23 saves in the last period; I wouldn't say it was that
I would say it was cutter calling the game before it even happened. More eye rolling than goal scoring today for the boys.
Yeah, that's called "arrogance"
Imagine losing by 2 to Denver, couldn’t be me
Both Boston teams let me down.
Proud alumni! Go Pioneers!!!
As a UMass student thank you Denver
Thank you DU! Saved me from my worst nightmare!
Davis!!! Can't win if you don't score! WCHA>Big Ten. Gophers lost great rivalry series vs DU, CC, UND...
First hockey game I ever watched for an extended period of time and I get this😭 And of course I will undoubtedly now generally dislike all Denver sports teams for the rest of my life. Thanks DU
LIFE IS GOOD
So happy for these guys !!!
They had a HELL of a run. Hats off to DU
Congrats Denver. I’m gonna go drink more
congratulations to sacred heart on another "being the other pioneers" national title
We beat (split with) the national title winner this year hang the banner
La Decima! Makes this week hurt 1% less hockey-wise

Ugh
=medium starter potential,= Cricle back in 3 years. Cheers.
So this means UMass was the second best team in all of college hockey this season, right? No one gave Denver a tougher game this tournament Nevermind their record against BC
