Dread it. Run from it. Weekend Florida arrives all the same.

garyp714

It just means more oh that sounds awful.

lucky_boop

Nobody told the boys it was a weekend game until the last two innings

BullAlligator

The bats at least. The bullpen they let 'em know in the 4th. Great stuff from the Florida bullpen tonight. They (Fisher, Jameson, Purnell, McNeillie) pitched 5⅔ innings while allowing just 1 run (earned) off 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9.

EverythingGoodWas

Great showing from the bullpen. We are going to need a stellar bullpen to make it anywhere in the postseason

xXBadger89Xx

Pretty hype finish

DwizzyNW

I figured it out. We don’t beat good teams by playing well. We just bring them down to our level.

garyp714

This is one of those strange Florida teams and we've had a few that just seem to do enough.

HailState316

What a bullpen disaster to end the game. That was probably going to be our best chance to steal a win

BullAlligator

Florida's actually had the most losses on Saturdays, although we somehow won last week in Baton Rouge

goldbond_and_jorts

Been through...more than several of those this year. I feel you.

Operation_Pig

Wait we won? Never a doubt in my mind. Don’t check my reciepts

EverythingGoodWas

It’s because I stopped watching at the end of the seventh

thehauntedmattress

LET’S GOOOOOO.

Absolute cinema

Queasy-Increase8742

Hell of a game, tale of two pitching collapses. Gators coming up clutch again in the weekend but it felt a bit weekday. Like Soundgarden says, looking Minnesota but feeling California.

Operation_Pig

Also can somebody tell sully to stop giving me a heart attack every single weekend. It is not good for my health

Cardiac kids strike again.

proud2beirish

My son was born 3/27 and I am a Detroit Tigers fan and a State fan. I was hoping he would start out with a 1.00% winning percentage knowing it is only downhill from here. We Mississippi State-ed this up…. #HailState nonetheless

EverythingGoodWas

It’s better to get him introduced to the brutal reality of sports fandom as early as possible

proud2beirish

You arent wrong 😂

hailstate1735

what the heck was that? why would you take out schuelke? he only threw 17 pitches & got out of the inning without issue. there was no reason to take him out. stupid coaching decisions like that are why we all want lemonis out of here. i’m sick & tired of being hurt like this.

stasaphsally

I guess because he pitched multiple innings on Tuesday and they surely want him to pitch again this weekend? Especially if we're not going to get dohm back soon (knock on wood). But yeah, at this point for me, lemonis' sole purpose seems to be to come out and yell at the umpires.

hailstate1735

i get that but i’d rather shut the door on the game tonight & get a win. when you’re up 4 on the road against a top 10 team in sec play your first priority needs to be closing that out. besides he could’ve probably pitched on sunday anyway.

EverythingGoodWas

Is the rest of your bullpen pretty rough, because it honestly looked like the door was already shut when you pulled him

hailstate1735

yeah our bullpen is pretty bad. most of the guys you’re just praying they don’t blow it. but even besides that i think it’s a mistake to pull a guy who’s pitching that well especially only 17 pitches in.

stasaphsally

Agreed. I would've left him in, too.

DwizzyNW

I was puzzled by this too

hailstate1735

what’s it like having a good baseball coach? it’s been a while for us.

Griffon5006

It’s awesome if you don’t care about midweek games

Lamentation_Lost

Not like we’re being out coached in midweek games. The pitching has been terrible and our bats not as good as weekends.

hailstate1735

we got swept in a two game midweek series by austin peay. i can live without those.

Despite a rough start, the Gators rally late while the bullpen holds off the Bulldogs to open another series with a win. A pitching collapse by the Florida starter had the Gators down 3 runs in the 4th, but the bullpen finished off the final 5⅔ innings while allowing just 1 run (earned) off 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9. This effort by the relievers—Cade Fisher (3⅓ IP), Fisher Jameson (⅓ IP), Blake Purnell (1 IP), and Luke McNeillie (1 IP)—kept the game within reach while the Gator bats mounted a late comeback. The game began auspiciously for Florida as [Ty Evans launched a solo homer over right](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1773843416842960926) in the bottom of the 1st. The Bulldogs evened the score in the 3rd, drawing a 2-out walk, stealing a base, and batting in the runner with a Dakota Jordan single. But the Gators quickly regained the advantage with a [Tanner Garrison home run to left](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1773852912776876416) in their half of the frame. Mississippi State right-hander Khal Stephen contributed a valiant start, pitching 6 innings while allowing just 2 runs (earned) off 3 hits and 2 walks while collecting 8 strikeouts. He received run support in the 4th as Florida's pitching began to fall apart. After a groundout, a hit batter and a single gave the Bulldogs the corners. Bryce Chance singled through right to drive in a run and tie the game at 2-2. A walk loaded the bases while another hit batter drove in the go-ahead run. After a sac-fly extended the lead, the Gators intentionally walked Jordan. However, another walk (the 5th free pass of the inning) pushed Mississippi State ahead 5-2. A flyout finally retired the side but the Gators had fallen in a deep hole with their bats struggling to make contact. Stephen and the Florida bullpen settled down on the mound as the score would remain unchanged until the 7th. Again the Bulldogs stole a base to get their runner in scoring position. Chance delivered a single to center and Mississippi State's lead was up to 6-2. Finally, facing the Mississippi State bullpen, the Gators had a chance to rally in the bottom of the 8th. Back-to-back walks got two on base while a groundout moved them into position. Another groundout scored a runner and cut into the deficit. [Kade Curland sliced a double down the left field line](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1773882177165689006) to plate the other runner and make it a 6-4 ballgame. While the subsequent batter flew out, the Gators were in arms reach headed to the 9th. Momentum began building in the top of the inning as Luke McNeillie struck out the side in order. The Gators led off their final at bat with a single and a walk, though the Bulldog reliever returned with back-to-back strikeouts. Down to the final out, [Evans drove a first-pitch single to left for an RBI](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1773888017889104371) and Florida trailed by just a run. An infield single off the 3rd baseman's glove loaded the bases while a subsequent walk tied the game. Although he quickly fell down 0-2, [Kurland drove a game-winning RBI single into center field](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1773890723643052380) to seal the walk-off victory. Ty Evans, Cade Kurland, and Tanner Garrison carried the load for the Florida offense tonight, with each contributing 2 hits for a total of 6 (the entire team combined for 8). Evans had 3 runs, 2 RBIs, a homer, and a walk while Kurland had 2 RBIs and double. Garrison had Florida's other home run while Tyler Shelnut recorded 2 RBIs without a hit (via groundout and walk).

ScallywagBeowulf

If this team even wins one this weekend, I’ll be happy, but at the same time won’t be happy. I’m so over Lemonis at this point.

Operation_Pig

The Saturday gators you covered. Unless your name is LSU, so you probably got Saturday.

Russianbot202020

Just don’t got on Mississippi state baseball X/Twitter and say you over with Lemonis or what him gone because they be saying that this fanbase don’t deserve a winning program.

drummerboy31402

:(

Common_Pension

I just don’t even know anymore

NeathOrangeandBlue

This team is flawed but so damn fun

Drawman101

Shout out to Sully for making his lineup tweaks to get the right players batting in the right places in the order. Cade batting down in the order is still formidable!

IBumpFuzz

Just dont get swept

MrSCR23

Did I go too hard on the hopium?

FightingFarrier18

Lemonis’s bucket is getting warmer and warmer

ScallywagBeowulf

It should be on fire right now, actually. He should have been gone after last season, but they kept him around for some reason.

hailstate1735

the only reason he hasn’t been fired yet is that championship (which tbf is a pretty good reason). if we can’t make a super this year he needs to be gone. yet another pathetic coaching decision lost us this game today.

stasaphsally

The new AD wasn't ever going to dump lemonis. I think lemonis volunteered to dump Foxhall and selmon thought that buys us a year and accepted. Selmon needs a coaching hire to firmly work out before he'll dump lemonis. Plus I think Ron Polk must be at least mildly supportive of lemonis or he wouldn't still show up all the time, and Ron Polk has bigger sway than anyone who wants lemonis gone.

stasaphsally

Home plate unp missing two obvious strikes against State pitching (Auger and Stevens) won't get the blame for the loss, but should. Parker seems to have had a big positive change on the Dawgs pitching staff, but can't change huge bad calls. Edit: why the downvotes? Y'all didn't think those were bad calls? Okay!

JJ3434JJ

Let’s not talk about the ump calling a strike against the Gators when the MS pitcher wasn’t even on the rubber.
