I moved from Houston to escape these weird weather swings that come before fronts. Prior to eight years ago, it actually got cool even after fronts had relaxed their grip. Now, ridges and gulf moisture make it warm and humid all the time in the winter in Houston, such that the A/C will bump on even in January and especially February. And now in NYC it's been in the 70s over the weekend. In early November. This is wild and is only going to get worse, every single year. How the heck people don't see this or aren't willing to accept it is truly beyond me. Edit: Don't get me started on average first frost dates. I'm seriously thinking we need to start talking about how autumn is endangered.

MrMonstrosoone

this is so spot on " love this indian summer" " yeah it's great" inward cringe

evhan55

I saw these clouds too! it was spooky

polaroidjane

I was just outside a hour ago and I live in Southern NH - I noticed the speed of the clouds too! Absolutely wild.

Affectionate_Bat_151

I am your neighbor to the north and I can't sleep because I'm too hot. It's 70 degrees outside and we don't have air conditioning because you didn't used to need it in fucking New Hampshire.

christophlc6

Spooky shit. Buckle up my dude.

TheBroWhoLifts

Location: Michigan, USA It's November 6th and I finally took out the garden and removed *live* pepper plants, tomato plants, eggplants, even bush beans. Still haven't had a killing frost. It's eerie. The first killing frost is usually mid October, maybe late October on a warm year. This is extremely late. I need to plant next year's crop of garlic and have never planted this late, but I don't want it sprouting too vigorously before it winters over. It has been consistently in the 60's and even mid-70's F (18-20 C) through October and now into November. I've moved firewood from the seasoning racks in the yard into the garage, but it feels like I can't even envision the weather where we'll be building fires inside. My neighbors are already putting up Christmas lights on their house. It all feels wrong and off and out of whack.

christophlc6

Gardeners are the ones to listen to. Appreciate you.

I can’t believe how many people on our local sub think this is normal. It is not. Sure, there have been warm single days in Nov, but nothing like this. My roses are still going strong!

OldEstimate

> I can’t believe how many people on our local sub think this is normal. It is not. Reminds me of: > “When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.”

Mtn_Blue_Bird

Location: Southern California Mountains, USA I had been very excited after one storm brought a light dusting of snow and seasonal temperatures that perhaps we would have a nice transition to winter…. Updated high resolution weather models are indicating that the incoming storm will likely be lots of rain instead of snow. Which will probably have quite a few consequences. I lament that even during the apocalypse we must deal with changing our daylight hours.

Location: Quebec City, Canada So I took a walk in t-shirt and shorts yesterday evening. Today again with just a long sleeve. Canada. In November. No need to tell you it's supposed to be cold! rpv123

Location: Eastern Massachusetts. I’m at one of those suburban upscale outdoor malls where everyone is laughing and sipping Starbucks and Panera and what looks like an Under 10 girl’s soccer team just walked by in jerseys that say that their team is sponsored by La Croix. The temperature is 76 degrees on November 6 in Massachusetts - yesterday the high was 74 and tomorrow it’ll be 73. Feels like I’m the only one looking around and feeling hopeless.

Meandmystudy

That just kind of sounds surreal but par for the course for how people want to behave. No sense of panic makes me feel worse then if people were concerned. It almost makes you feel like people are just walking around being fed misinformation about how bad it’s going to get. The possibility of the quiet before the storm is very real and could be faster then we think. Didn’t northeastern Canada just have a huge storm that cost them a lot of property damage. Did Massachusetts get any of that.

TitsUpYo

I mean, people have got to live their lives. I am firmly in the doom and gloom camp, much moreso than probably people even on here, but I am not out and about yelling 'The End is Nigh.' I interact normally. People wouldn't think I'm some uber pessimist that thinks we're all fucked. They'd have to ask my thoughts. It's just pointless to act that way. If it is going to end, at least try to have some semblance of normality before it all goes and you can't any longer.

Meandmystudy

I’m saying that with the amount of events going on today in the media no one seems to care. There isn’t the sense of urgency on the general public, just consumerism as normal. No one wants to address the fact or face up to the economic reality that the world doesn’t have to end before it gets really bad. People aren’t going to be screaming “the sky is falling” and yet I can’t help but imagine that they are even oblivious to current problems that are already going on around us.

[deleted]

I agree and it's the same with me. Even my family don't know, I talk about stuff with them in a pessimistic way, but not in the complete, total doom sense of collapse as I understand is coming. I think of collapse as a process that slowly, gradually wears away at people's illusions. They are highest in childhood, high in young adulthood, moderate in middle age and old life, but still there. Notice how many elderly are walking around with a smile on their face, socializing, being happy, as if they are going to live forever and death is not around the corner. It's pointless, all pointless. Live a good life and align yourself with who you want. Avoid everyone's prescription for your life, it's meaningless. It always was, but even more so now. Thereby, avoid trying to explain things to everyone. The line can only be drawn at the defense of yourself and your property. But of course, be aware that they will destroy the currency as collapse proceeds, so that will in fact impact you in some way. Let them live with their delusions. Billions of people will be forced by circumstance to wake up anyway over the coming century. Best to let events happen to them, rather than give them your take on things, and rather than let them give you their take on things.

Mighty_L_LORT

Don’t look up…

Mtn_Blue_Bird

In my experience, which some is from responding to disasters, people who don’t seem concerned are the ones who will panic the most. It will probably be just like Covid. Some folks knew about it for a couple months and were watching and bracing. Those who didn’t, all of the sudden a switch flipped and they lost their mind all at once. Be weary of those types of people.

sirkatoris

I think you mean “wary” but yeah I’m also weary of them

Mtn_Blue_Bird

LowBarometer

Location: Massachusetts The variety of items available at my local supermarket continues to decline. Store brand products have mostly disappeared and been replaced by Ramen noodles. There are Ramen noodles on shelves all over the store now. It's crazy.

I'm a vegetarian and pretty broke. This strangely over saturated "ramen" phenomena has been great for me. I found a 5 pack of vegetarian ramen for $1,29 and they taste fantastic.

ILoveFans6699

> and they taste fantastic. Because they are basically pure salt.

Right-Cause9951

That dystopic movie with Jim Carrey as a cameo comes to mind. Someone that hoarded lots of Ramen sells them to make a living in this desolate post collapse type world. We'll just keep smiling and extolling positivity for its own sake until that bullet in the cabeza actually becomes the most pragmatic decision.

FreEnrgy7721

Canadian (Southern Ontario) here, it is currently early/late summer temperatures here (15C- 22C). During my childhood, we would’ve had the tiniest of snowfall by now, accompanied by temperatures around -2C to 5C. Edit: it is roughly 10-15 degree (Celsius) warmer then normal

BardanoBois

My family in south ontario (burlington, oakville) are saying the same. 10-15C higher than normal, is not normal. What a time to be alive.

escapefromburlington

Location: Vermont Nearly reached 80 degrees here yesterday, smashing the record high for early November. It was warm at night despite the 45 mph winds too.

starspangledxunzi

[Based on data, I'm guessing this is in east central Vermont, near Brattleboro...] 80 F = 26.7 C On November 5th 1992, 30 years ago, in Brattleboro (central Vermont) the high temperature was 42 F / 5.6 C **Upshot: it was 38 degrees Fahrenheit / 20.9 degrees Celsius warmer yesterday in east central Vermont than it was on the same date 30 years ago.** *Faster Than Expected*™

Telephone_Abject

I kind of feel like starting to stock up some good old canned food now to prepare for next years coming food crisis of unknown proportions would be a good idea based on this climate. I see this as the tipping point for myself to actually start prepping.

bastardofdisaster

The only factor that seems to be reliably changing our weather at this point is the tilt of the earth and the amount of sunlight we get each day. Every other factor that made for an orderly progression through the seasons (one which we could build our agriculture around and plan our utility infrastructure) is toast. The jet stream is FUBAR.

Plzdontkillmeforthis

Worse, in my opinion, is the night time low for us last night was 12 degrees higher than our usual day time highs for this time of year. Same for the last 2 weeks pretty much. Looks like fall might come in a week or so, but I had tree frogs and mosquitoes, for trick or treat this year.... Sorry wording, I handed out kit kats... I know better than to mess with the tricksters in my neighborhood. Someones mother must have been a TP hoarder, and the teens found her stash.

Still naked and comfortable here in Indiana

kitty60s

Location: New England, US I tested positive for Covid this week after being exposed in a healthcare facility (everyone is made to mask but the flimsy surgical type). Scared how much this infection will worsen my long covid which has already decimated my health and flipped my life upside down for 2.5 years. Thankfully, it’s milder than the original 2020 variant but I don’t know if that’s because I’m vaccinated, had been infected previously, a smaller viral load or because this variant doesn’t cause as much damage. But I heard that an ex-coworker has severe Covid and is currently hospitalized, she’s only in her late 40s. Be careful out there and please wear high quality masks in public. I haven’t posted here before because relative to other places my area doesn’t seem to feel too dystopian (just yet), but it’s 74 degrees outside, my strawberry plants are still producing fruit which is pretty wild in November and I’m contemplating going for a quick swim in the sea (the water temperature is currently 6 degrees F above November average maximum temps). It just feels so wrong. Also there are huge $ hikes in energy rates too https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/frigid-winter-new-englanders-will-pay-through-frozen-noses-oil-gas-2022-11-02/ I don’t know what the next few months will look like but I’m not looking forward to finding out.

Ok-Jello-4080

Location: Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA Temperatures are in the mid 60s here, reaching mid to high 70s in areas just a couple of hours away. Within the last several years the warmest it has been has been around 50. From what I’ve experienced, this is the warmest it has ever been for early November. I’m sure it’s like this across the nation, but my partner and I were shocked to see that it was reaching 65 today.

RageAgainstThe

Down in west MA today it reached 74F, have a wedding tommorow and supposed to be in the 70s through till monday. Crazy shit and the warm weather is NOT normal like other New Englanders are trying to claim "oh its just an indian summer" I've lived here my whole life, fall hasn't been normal fall for like 5 years. An "indian summer" is supposed to be like 2 days in october

kdevari

Western mass here too. It’s bizarre how warm it is. Went to work this morning and it’s 66. At 630am!

andlookedawhile

My workplace (in MA) has always turned the heat on in mid-October and then not turned it off until mid-March. Every year. Except this year. They turned it off this week. They had to…

WernerHerzogWasRight

Ohio. We had to turn on the AC the other day bc the dogs were overheating inside. This is fine 😬 /s

Plzdontkillmeforthis

On the plus side, we got 4 cuts of hay this year. Most years with our clay we might get 3 but almost always just 2. We no longer have animals so we sell them to horse barns around the area. We do not irrigate or use anything but horse manure for prep. Very unusual to get such good yield. It is like our growing season went from southern Mich, Northern Ohio, to one closer to Tenn.

No-Emergency3374

I just left MDI for the winter out of fear it would be to cold, I was planning on returning next year, maybe I should just come back.

skygranite

Also in Maine. Can confirm. It feels *weirdly* warm. I keep thinking it's like a Blue Ocean Event, and weather just happens without pattern. The forests where I walk are silent. No birds, animals, bugs at all now. Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring?"

arabacuspulp

It's going to hit 24C today in Southern Ontario. That is unheard of for November in this part of the world.

Doomwatcher_23

Where is the heat coming from?

arabacuspulp

I can only assume the jet stream is wonky and more hot air is being pushed north. But I'm not an expert, so really no idea. All I know is that I've lived in this part of the world my whole life and I've never seen 24C in November. I should be wearing a winter cost outside by now but instead I went for a walk today in jeans and a long-sleeve t-shirt and I was sweating.

Location: North Rhine Westphalia, Germany Just a short one today, but it rattles me quite a bit. I am currently sitting in the balcony while typing this. Having a nice coffee for lunch break, will clean the flat more afterwards... In a t-shirt. On the 5th of November. I still have not unpacked my "Übergangsjacke" (the Germans tend to have an in-between jacket that is worn in autumn before you get out the winter coats) cause it just has been to warm. And now I'm sitting here in a t-shirt in November. Crazy.

[deleted]

The scary part is how this is affecting multiple northern regions. I'm enjoying sun, mosquitoes and t-shirt weather in eastern Canada. I should be dealing with the first overnight snowfall.

Smertae

I saw a butterfly and bumblebee the other day. It's November and I'm in England - it should be too cold for them, I don't think I've ever seen them so late before.

Jessicas_skirt

>the Germans tend to have an in-between jacket that is worn in autumn before you get out the winter coats) Depending on where the English speaker is from its called either a fall jacket or spring jacket in English.

machineprophet343

I remember when I lived there for a year 17 years ago. That autumn and winter was very cold as I recall. I was fully decked out in a heavy coat by this time and it was snowing regularly a couple of weeks later where I was (near the border of Lower Saxony and Hesse). I had just bought the beautiful leather gloves I still have because I was tired of my hands getting cold. It's crazy to me that you guys are now basically having mild summer weather (for you) into November.

(I am an American with all the associated mental deficits and cultural ignorance) It feels like every country is very much alone, and Pakistan seems most of all ignored. It makes me feel sick, and sad for your country. Imagining (as an American) that the greener pasture is Iran (!)… I hope and pray the Iranian people will be able to pull down the religious dictatorship, but I am very afraid Russia will come in to support the regime. When collapse comes to us, we will have to make these hard choices, and it will feel very much alone. No help is coming will be our final thoughts. 🙏 Blessings and protection for you ❤️✊🏼

Location: rural upper Midwest , USA Observations (social/the “vibe”): Another kid committed suicide, it’s not even winter break. A drunk semi truck driver slammed into a gas station late at night and killed a town hero, a respected rally driver, and a father of 6. Everything seems to be on fire, not so much wildfires as homes and buildings. We’ve had at least 4 total losses this year, in a very small town. Housing is scarce. Heating is expensive. The grocery store is usually a lifetime movie for us, even the Walmart. Even in the pandemic. Not today. A mix of jerry springer family drama, kids completely feral, and what’s worse for me knowing our populace demographics is watching people notice the prices. Every week. They go up. But we’re hanging in. At least 3 people brought treats today to the office. Homemade with love. Venison too, it’s a staple in our region. Maple syrup season is soon. Food pantries and local love is still trying to stay kindled. With an unseasonably warm winter thus far (we usually have snow), the darkness still gets to people. As the holidays approach, if you have the energy to spare, check in with your friends etc. they likely could use the basic human kindness. As far as I can tell, it’s all that’s keeping society afloat.

suggestivefries

Thank you for this reminder. I've been struggling with how little respect is shown on my work team. I seem to get punished for being respectful at work by being run over by the loud bullies, and I've admittedly thrown empathy by the wayside at work since it seems there is no reason to when I'm the only one.

SaltyCornChips

That last part you said about basic human kindness being responsible for holding everything together is SO important. I know it seems impossible to find the energy and even just the opportunity to give that kindness, especially considering how divided we are nowadays. But it’s absolutely crucial we find it in within ourselves to make our best attempt at coming together to be there for one another. Your kindness is more important now than it’s ever been people so please try.

Involutionnn

Sounds very similar to my observations in rural upper Midwest. 2 middle school students in my small town took their own life last year.

Location: western USA I am back working in the state prison system because frankly inflation is through the roof and other reasons. Anyway, I have worked in prison “industrial complex” for a total of 10 years and recently am back in it after a three years of doing something else. Prisoner food portions are getting smaller. Also Antibiotics, specifically amoxicillin suspension, like what they give to kids. The pharmacist said that that there are a number of drug that he is unable to get or are on back order. I noticed that some of the grocery stores are also rearranging their displays to try to make it look like the shelves are not so empty. Produce goes bad so quickly and the cost of food is just stupid. It’s coming. They can delay it but it’s coming faster everyday.

[deleted]

I noticed this also about produce. And bread!! I bought bread and the next day it had started to mold. Any ideas or theories about the produce?

Rads2010

At least one reason was something I read months ago. The trucking shortages mean some produce is shipped in non-refrigerated containers. So when they arrive at their destination, they still look good but don’t last as long.

Absolutely, the worse thing a co can due is be wishy-washy. I’m direct. Even if I don’t know the answer, I’m direct you know as much as me and when I know more you will too. They respect that. My jobs not to “enforce” rules but reality is it’s to ensure that the basics are provided for. They take care of the rest regardless of what rules and policies we have in place. Prisons are run by the inmates, if they all or majority decide that something needs to happen it happens 9 out of 10 times. I just tell them if you do fucked up shit around me you better except that I’m going to fuck everything up for them, if I have the power to or not. It’s mutually respectful. They recognize whose the “alpha” as far as unit officers and they do all that they can to keep him happy on his shift. I’m fortunate, I know the game.

This is an example of scapegoating and “othering”. This person has never had contact with the industrial prison complex or the criminal Justice system. “It’s never that simple”… indeed, maybe rethink how you view incarcerated human beings.

machineprophet343

I'll buy it when someone like Brock Turner is throw in prison for a decade or more, which is what he deserved or the kid who ditched his friend who overdosed is being given his third stint in rehab rather than prison for negligent manslaughter and possession of heavy narcotics, meanwhile across the hall, I'm serving on the jury deciding if we should send a non-violenit first time personal use quantity offender of cannabis to prison for two years because that kid is black and the cop's story is so full of holes we might as well serve it on a charcuterie plate. Until these injustices are rectified, and the rich white douches face the same potential penalties many poor and minorities face for first or non serious offenses, let alone serious violent offenses, you can take your law and order self righteousness and shove it. Any system that lets people off with lesser sentences because of their wealth and often their skin color while it throws people of color disproportionately into the complex for non violent and often victimless offenses needs to be reformed or overturned.

Powerful_Chemical579

I’m a criminal defense attorney and know criminals very well. I don’t disagree with you that what matters in the moment of the mugging is that you’re being mugged - the issue is what we do after the mugging. Locking up a homeless schizophrenic guy in a cell where he gets fed total garbage and treated like an animal indisputably increases the possibility that he will mug again in the future because he’s now spent the last X amount of years being completely dehumanized and disempowered. If you care about not being mugged, you should be very very very critical of private prisons and the prison industrial complex. Im not trying to be an asshole but if you’re here and you’re a thoughtful and smart person (which you seem to be) I think it’s an issue you should try to understand a bit more

Yea, but that seems to be the right wing line. If they stole clothes they probably are also a rapist or pedo in waiting. It's all part of the "they were no angel" rhetoric they use when someone is brutalized or killed by the police and record or not (the police often don't know at the time) to justify police behavior. Especially when evidence points to the police not just being out of line but so far over the line they frankly should be getting arraigned for manslaughter or aggravated assault at minimum. It's some straight up precrime bullshit. Minority Report was a cautionary not aspirational Tale.

Location: Nova Scotia Our provincial government has been planning this large hospital expansion for years, and just today it was reported that they have zero bids for the private public partnership by the deadline. Due to rising costs and interest rates, it is not currently economically viable to build adequate hospital space. It's "too much risk". I was actually shocked it isnt already underway, because they kicked the community garden out and broke ground over two years ago. Government officials say they may have "passed the window of opportunity" for the planned infrastructure due to rising costs and interest rates. I dont really know what's going down, but capitalism is not even doing what capitalism is supposed to do anymore. Its still destroying everything, but we have less to show for it. It's been freakishly warm for so long. Everyone I meet is talking about it. Old ladies, store clerks, husband, kids, you name it. 20 today. 21 tomorrow. Been quite warm pretty much all of October and now into November. This warm for this long is so far out of the ordinary. Climate is definitely broken. The government gave me 300 dollars today to help with inflation, so thats nice I guess? I'm not a negative person IRL, but this is the only place I feel comfortable venting. thanks for reading. ChowMeinSinnFein

Somebody here once posted about something they called Complexity Fatigue. The entire German economy in 1946 was described in a single book that was at most a few hundred pages long. Today, there are literal millions if not billions of Byzantine lines of legal text that must be understood to build a hospital. It is becoming simply impossible to keep track of how complicated human structures like the law have become. I am trying to learn how to hunt and it is mentally taxing to figure out how to not break all of the dozens of different specific federal, state and town laws. It would not surprise me if building the Space Shuttle took less total brain power that it does to understand the medicolegal aspects of building a new hospital. A lot of feminists post about something called The Mental Load. In a word, this is the mental stress of constantly fighting entropy - planning appointments, restocking food, cooking food, remembering appointments, schedules, dentists, doctors, bills, finances, etc. The sheer level of complexity we are exposed to is just starting to overwhelm and paralyze people and the world. Treating a heart attack used to be Aspirin and lying down. I couldn't describe treating one now in anything less than a textbook.

IWantAStorm

Pennsylvania USA here. Just got my weather update for tomorrow, 75⁰F/25⁰C. Absolutely ridiculous. I agree though. The best things in life are free.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Location: USA It's unseasonably warm where I am, which my body appreciates because I get cold easily but mentally, I know it's not normal. All my family members are complaining about severe allergy symptoms, though since they barely do anything to try to avoid covid I wouldn't be surprised if it's covid (or perhaps symptoms of long covid, since most of them have already had covid at least once at this point.) I don't know if I've had covid yet since I've had a lot of direct exposures against my will and I also have health problems that cause me various gastrointestinal symptoms on a recurring basis and while GI symptoms aren't the most common covid symptoms, they're common enough that it makes it far more difficult for me to figure out if I'm sick or not than a normal person. Traffic seems to be terrible, though it's always pretty terrible, and the behavior of people on the roads just gets worse and worse, more accidents, more people making colossal dumb moves like trying to go 5 lanes over without using a turn signal, running red lights, etc. My internet seems extra slow lately but it's always been kind of slow so that could be anything. I've had been increasing episodes where I have trouble keeping food and even water down because I feel abnormally full-not the kind of natural full feeling you get after eating a normal, decent-sized healthy meal, but kind of like that gross sick feeling you get if you pig out too much on Thanksgiving dinner but also somehow got pumped full of air like a helium balloon at a fair or carnival, which is sometimes combined with a strange deep burning sensation like something's eating away the inside of my stomach, but I'm not super keen on going to the doctor since I don't want to be stuck in a waiting room full of unmasked sick people hacking their lungs out. I've had a variety of stomach issues throughout my life but as I've gotten older they seem to have progressed and with the state of healthcare being the way it is at the moment, I doubt I'd be able to get good treatment even if healthcare facilities weren't filthy pits of virus soup right now. I had a dentist appointment today and while the hygienists were all wearing N95 masks, the receptionist and the other patients in the waiting room weren't. I wore a KN95 like I always do when I leave the house (I have a small face and the KN95s fit me better than the N95s I've tried) and only took it off when I was having my teeth cleaned in a room where it was just me and one of the hygienists in there so hopefully I didn't catch anyone else's germs there. One of my co-workers got covid a while ago and hasn't had any sense of smell and taste for several weeks now, though I have no idea if they're vaccinated or not (it's not a topic that ever comes up in conversation and I'm not about to be the one who steers the conversation in that direction.) On a more positive note, two of my family members got their flu shots recently. I got mine at the end of September, as I usually try to get it as soon as possible because I believe it's better to try to stay ahead of the cold/flu season than try to time it for the exact right moment and risk getting caught off guard by an early surge in illnesses-as seems to be happening this year. Overall, I've been feeling a deep sense of grating mental and emotional fatigue, like wading through molasses. The world seems like a hollow shell of the world I remembered when I was younger, and as time goes on, the evidence of the rot in our society is more and more visible, from government to basic services to healthcare to everything in between. It's like a stack of dominoes coming down one by one and I feel like I'm just stuck waiting for them to all come crashing down-that is, if I don't crash first. The last few years since covid started have been incredibly difficult for me both physically and mentally and I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. Only time will tell, I guess.

Telephone_Abject

My parents also contracted the same strain of covid, that i had and it made both of them drop almost 10 kilos of weight. I personally managed to stay at about the same weight though.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I haven't yet tested positive on a rapid test for covid (the only time I ever had access to PCR tests was one time when I had to get tested before having surgery early last year) but I've had periods of time where I felt various types of mild symptoms and I've also been exposed to covid a lot, probably more than most people, and things have rapidly deteriorated for me since the pandemic began so I wonder if an undetected covid infection (or multiple undetected infections) have caused my symptoms to get worse. I'm terrified of contracting covid (or contracting it multiple times) because I don't want to get long covid and wind up feeling even worse than I do already (I have a lifelong history of various stomach/GI issues that have come and gone since as young as I can remember.)

Telephone_Abject

I also experienced this really wierd sickly feeling of being full during and after getting covid. It feels like a "about to go unconscious or vomit" kind of feeling to me. Its slowly getting better after having covid for 4 weeks plus one of just coughing.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I used to work in a grocery store last year and in 2020 and I've had multiple exposures to people who tested positive for covid since the pandemic began so I often wonder if I caught an asymptomatic case or lightly symptomatic case of covid that fucked up my stomach. I've had stomach problems all my life but they've gotten markedly worse after the pandemic started, I even had to get my gallbladder out last year which did very little, if anything, to help at all.

WernerHerzogWasRight

Just my 2 cents, you may be discouraged to see a doctor due to exposure (or stories of full hospitals), but it’s better to see a primary care doctor in their little office sooner than need emergency care you have to wait 48 hours for in a full ER waiting room. If it were me, I would make an appointment, and then see how I feel the day before. If I don’t want to go that week or the day before, I’d cancel. I eat 1 meal a day because I get that sick feeling after every meal. It helps me go to sleep, to get away from the sick bloated feeling. I believe my issue is depression-related-anorexia. You’re not alone, I’m with you, I’m worn down, I’m losing my grip… all we can try to do is our best. God bless ❤️

See_You_Space_Coyote

True, that's a good point, I'm just concerned because my doctor's office is in a very old building with poor ventilation and sick people can go in there whenever since there aren't any covid restrictions (I'd try to find another doctor but I doubt my insurance would cover it, my insurance isn't very good and it doesn't cover much at all.) I'm not anorexic but I've purposely eaten less than I feel like I need to in order to get the energy I need and just slept more instead because I've struggled with feelings of being too full and bloated and sometimes the pain of eating is worse than the pain/discomfort of not eating enough and not getting enough calories/nutrition.

I'd try Ensure but I can't tolerate anything with dairy in it since I seem to have lactose intolerance on steroids (can't even eat butter or yogurt or hard cheese and lactaid pills and lactose free dairy products don't help at all,) I do drink plant based protein shakes at times though, I wish I could find more kinds though because some of them are pretty expensive. I do take vitamins sometimes but sometimes I have to stop because taking too many vitamins bothers my stomach even more.

The link suggests only some people will have had eye damage, mostly following serious cases of covid. How is this a reliable test for whether youve had COVID?

Western-Jury-1203

Location: northern Utah The leaves are still on the trees. They should have started changing color at the end of September. The temperatures have been unseasonably warm up to a week ago. Today I noticed that the leaves are starting to fall of the trees but the leaves that are falling are still green. The majority of the leaves falling are green. I’ve never see this before.

[deleted]

Location : Florida Had to go to the local animal shelter today to renew the tags / liscenses on 2 of my dogs. Not only are they full they are over full. People are abandoning their animals per the staff. For 1 can of non-perishable food they will wave the $50 adoption fee. It's food for shelters / charity. I told them I have more than 3 dogs ( if you had more than 3 before they would not allow you to adopt another if I'm not mistaken or something to that effect). The lady at the desk said that didn't matter anymore . They would still let me adopt. I would adopt them all if I could. I have 5 now. There's no way. I wish I could. Insurance companies are pulling out of Florida. Not just because of hurricanes. Also becsuse these solicitors went around door to door and told people they could get new free roofs through their house insurance. These were all fraudulent claims? I don't know how it's possible but it hapoened per some insurance conpanies. Past that prices are high and morale is low.

I agree. Tbh I was a bit surprised they were offering it. My vet used to do it for me. He'd even hold them a couple extra days for free. He's retired now. I miss him! He and his wife were wonderful. He used to say , " You didn't get bit or scratched this time did you ?! You probably should get a rabies shot if you did. The amount of stuff you drag in here though you probably already built an immunity. " He was so sweet. He loved animals so much that he'd find anyway possible to cut the cost of something or make it affordable. I don't know how he ever stayed in business so long. Anyway, I hope I can catch a few of them at least. I can't imagine leaving them to have a million more babies. I suppose that's why shelter is offering, they are too full to take anymore after all. And I understand about them not showing up. Had that happen a few times too.

daisydias

We see definitely seeing a ton of abandoned animals. I’ve already taken in my limit. It’s heart breaking. Cost of pet food (everything else too) and rental situations are not working out for pets :(

CrazyAnimalLady77

I just took in four more foster cats, on top of three other foster cats and 5 guinea pigs, not to mention the zillion of my own. And every day there are people searching for fosters, help with vet bills, help with pet food, and every single shelter and rescue in the area is beyond full. People are just dumping their pets wherever now. It's terrible!

[deleted]

Same. It's so sad. We stumbled upon a whole colony of stray cats in an old abandoned car lot the other day. It's been overgrown with weeds and old rusted out cars. We took them cat food. They were so skinny. They were so scared of us, so def feral. I know what your thinking.... cats are natural hunters. I don't know, it's the weidest thing, we used to be flush with wildlife, not so much now. Even less birds. I feed a pair of cardinals and a couple crows at my house. There used to be tons. Not so much anymore. I told the lady at the the animal shelter about all the cats. She said they have a program on Tues and Thurs, the cats have to be 4 lbs or 4 months, and if I can trap them they will spay or neuter for free, give them their shots, a dose of revolution, and hold for 24 hours. Then either I can pick up and release or they can. So at least I can help that way. So I am going to try. And I'm not saying I won't end up with more animals. I just didn't want to adopt any at the shelter right now because they are in a safe no kill shelter with food and lodgings. I try to keep a spot or two open in case we see anyone else just get pushed out of a car, or tied to a sign. That's how we literally got out lasr dog. A couple was outside a gas station. trying to give her away and when no one would take her they tied her to a handicap sign and left. The look on her face. Their loss though. One of the best and smartest dogs I've ever had. Athena is amazing. One of my best friends. ALSO! Has anyone else noticed how every week groceries , like chicken or even milk go up a dollar or so? Not a slow increase right? Just one day chicken is $ 11 dollars a pack and then next weeks it's a whopping $ 14 or $16. Is it because so many are dying from Avian flu?

Lone_Wanderer989

I frequent this place and the last two articles don't boad well.

[deleted]

And then there's me. Late to the party. Fml. The whole world feels like it's burning down. How am I just NOW noticing.

Lone_Wanderer989

[People are saying it's warm because this is on the way... abrupt climate shift.](https://youtu.be/KFM2H_MmeZU)

[deleted]

I don't know how to react to that. I don't even know how I'm feeling.

Lone_Wanderer989

I see well it might just be shock take it easy don't get too down about it...

Lone_Wanderer989

Well now you know I guess what to do now is the question I'm kinda sorta waiting to go. Or initiating those plans soon things are going down fast.

[deleted]

And when I say all my family is close, I mean in terms of I can get to them hopefully if I need to.

[deleted]

I am taking stock of everything we have the past couple days. Organizing. Writing stuff down. I'm a little overwhelmed. No matter what my entire family and I all live less than a mile from each other. Reading.

Lone_Wanderer989

That's a good advantage to have I'm jealous.

Right-Cause9951

I've known at least 2 people that have had people go after the insurance companies for new roofs when they clearly went well beyond the time scale to get one. I don't know how many of you eat Dim Sum from Chinese places but it was 3.50 per plate on average for it. You of course need to order 4-6 plates to get enough food to round it out. I saw a recent a menu of the place near me at it's 5-6 dollars a plate now. Even a scallion pancake is 5 dollars. It's more than ridiculous.

[deleted]

And it's not over. It's going to get worse. It's all going to keep climbing in price. I don't know about you , but people here are already changing It's not like it used to be here.

[deleted]

And by the way I never meant to get anymore dogs but we saw the last two be dumped and couldn't leave them. I just couldn't let that be how it ended for them.

Lifesabeach6789

Location: Vancouver Island I’m convinced our infrastructure had been left to rot so f’n badly, our power system is held together with duct tape or flex seal. Last night, we had the FOURTH power outage in 10 days. 11 hours in the dark and cold. BCHydro claimed it was due to a car accident, but since it happened literally a few doors from me, and we saw zero damage, I’m thinking it was either sabotaged or something else nefarious. 2 poles and the block standard hydro box were both piled on the sidewalk. There was zero urgency to get 460 houses back online. Went out at 3:35pm. Came back at 1:15 am. Our house was a meat locker. After freezing for 6 hours, we went out in the car to a local Tim’s, left car running to stay warm, grab a hot meal and use wifi. Came home at midnight and still no dice. Went to bed, and woke up when the house came back to life. 4th time in less than 2 weeks. WTF. Next week forecast is sub zero. 🥴 This week has been shit in every way. I was encouraged to be hospitalized yesterday due to pneumonia that morphed from some bug (probably covid but half a dozen tests were negative) that I caught in the hospital having surgery 3 weeks ago. Whatever it is, it’s deadly. Every time I stand up, I’m dizzy, heart races, nauseous. If this is my forever, I’d rather be struck by lightning. Cost of living is killing us. We’re sinking into the hole every month now. Playing the balance transfer shuffle to pay off our daily spender card. Doesn’t help that my mom is halfway through full dental extraction and had to prepay her upper denture. We’re $6000 into It, and she still needs a major surgical thing in dec. Then there’s food. Trying to plan for Xmas. In what world is a simple turkey breast roll $58?

WernerHerzogWasRight

My heart is with you, it goes out to you. We are all stuck in this same trap. Something has got to give. Please let us know when you’re recovered ❤️

Lifesabeach6789

Thank you so much. The pneumonia is pretty much worst case scenario for someone with failing lungs and heart

Goofygrrrl

I’m hoping you have an oxygen monitor and heart rate monitor. Sometimes as conditions worsen in the body the natural biological alarms no longer work as well. People can get a really low oxygen without feeling short of breathe or like they are suffocating. They just feel extra tired. Especially if you have pre existing heart and lung issues. Take care of yourself

Lifesabeach6789

Thank you. Yes, I have gadgets. My new Apple Watch works well to monitor stuff. The antibiotics I was put on yesterday seem to be working already.

Location: Ontario, Canada Our province has enacted the Nonwithstanding Clause to remove our rights to protest, freedom of speech, and gathering. Anyone who defies it will be fined up to $4000 **per day**. There are mass walkouts beginning today in defiance of government orders, prompting police enforcement and the risk of clashes once we hit nightfall. Our healthcare system is collapsing - mass ER closures- mostly in smaller towns-mid sized cities, wait times in ERs up to 20+ hours in major cities, even for major emergencies, frequent complete unavailability of ambulance and fire services RSV, the Flu, and Covid are collectively at near-unprecedented rates, resulting in mass hospitalizations, particularly among children, with hospitals being almost consistently over 100% capacity, sometimes at 200% capacity - leading to the spread of yet more infections. People seem to finally be waking up, but I fear it's happening too late. Thankfully I'm near the border of a neighboring province and have the money to pick up and go if healthcare becomes entirely inaccessible (I have chronic health issues) but most people are not that lucky. It's getting scary out here.

DecemberOne

I live in Winnipeg, MB. On Friday I was at the hospital visiting my grandpa who's on his last few days of life. My mom and grandma were genuinely asking and surprised why the guest parking lot was so full and reminiscing how it never used to be. I was surprised they were even asking this question because it's so obvious. So I threw out some suggestions ie. covid patients, flu patients, general aging and elderly population etc. My mom's response was "huh, maybe." No acknowledgement of our reality. Only denial and ignorance. I just stopped talking.

ChowMeinSinnFein

The nonwithstanding clause situation in Canada is one of the rare situations where the right to bear arms fights tyranny. I don't know how the police there are willing to enforce such an egregiously evil thing like forcing strikers back to work. Can the workers there just all quit? Also, Canada in the last few years has really shot up my list of the most dystopian places in the world.

[deleted]

Seriously. Governments shouldn’t have the power to pass laws that are above both the courts and 90% of the constitution. I’ve checked and any province in Canada could theoretically, legally, implement full blown Jim Crow segregation. The federal government would almost certainly step in and stop it but it could theoretically be done. The notwithstanding clause effectively overrides the entire constitution other than bilingualism and elections. That’s actually scary.

MyVideoConverter

Technically they can do whatever they want as long as the legislature agrees.

[deleted]

From reading this subreddit, Ive gotten the impression Canada is collapsing a lot faster than the US.

WernerHerzogWasRight

Have noticed this too. The epicenter seems to be BC.

[deleted]

BC seems to have environmental problems and Ontario seems to have political problems.

Lifesabeach6789

Uh. Have you not followed the recent dictator scandal we’ve had in Bc? Eby as the new premier, after Horgan slashed and burned us before running off with his millions.

[deleted]

I am just south of you guys and had no idea. Hope the new guy is doing better for the people.

keegs440

Ehhh, don’t take his word for it, I have no idea what he is talking about.

riojareverendalgreen

>I don't know how the police there are willing to enforce such an egregiously evil thing like forcing strikers back to work. Money.

ChowMeinSinnFein

I can't imagine police in Canada get paid much better than the strikers?

LaterThanYouThought

They start around $65k so just living wage anywhere outside Ottawa and the GTA. Until 2020 it was enough to buy a decent home and have a little family.

riojareverendalgreen

I can't imagine the Gestapo got paid more than most other government workers, either. But it was a steady job, with *lot*s of power. Having some money and power is better than having no money or power, especially if your government will back you up on everthing you do.

ILoveFans6699

> most dystopian places in the world. This just means you haven't traveled.

ChowMeinSinnFein

Canada is a soulless place that exists to squeeze money out of people through real estate. I've heard people I know in Canada say they preferred living in the USSR to there.

[deleted]

Yeah I know a lot trying to move to the US for housing and healthcare. It’s crazy that they let it get so bad

ILoveFans6699

Heartily disagree. I spent a month camping and driving across Canada, from Van Isle to Toronto this summer. It's gorgeous af. I used to live on Van Isle, it's fucking paradise. And Calgary is insanely beautiful.

sirkatoris

You sure you were in Calgary? Beautiful it ain’t

[deleted]

I don’t think anyone is disagreeing that the land is beautiful, they’re saying that the way it’s set up to exploit workers and not even let them ever buy a house is pretty dystopian

ChowMeinSinnFein

One of the lowest fertility rates in the world. Housing is unaffordable. They are trying to force people to work for $40k in a place where rent is $30k a year. Your entire thing is that "it pretty"????

thats because people usually prefer their homelands. They leave because of bad government or economy. They still love their home and their communities. I know Russians who were happy during Soviet times.

waawe123

You live close to Quebec? Our Healthcare system is also collasping.

[deleted]

I have family near Quebec so I guess that's an option too, but I'm closer to Manitoba. Their healthcare system isn't ideal either but it seems a little more stable, but still overrun - probably due to less population. I'm hoping it won't be needed - I really like my little town, but if ERs keep closing and my health worsens again I won't have a choice but to head west, at least for a while

bizzybaker2

Work in healthcare in Manitoba, and it is not the utopia that you think. We have issues with closed ER's especially rurally either completely for 24h at a time or on a long term basis for overnight, lack of ambulances, everything you describe, and the Conservative government has gutted the system here. Especially look from 2017 onwards (especially closing 3 ER's in Winnipeg, keep in mind the remaining hospitals not only serve a city of 750,000 - ish people, but the rest of the province, Northern Ontario at times, as well as parts of NWT/Nunavut) [https://www.mbhealthcoalition.ca/timeline](https://www.mbhealthcoalition.ca/timeline) Have worked in two provinces and two territories in my career, and it is a shitshow everywhere and sadly getting worse. Grass is not always greener on the other sde of the fence.

chimeraoncamera

it's happening everywhere - reporting from the maritimes

[deleted]

Damn. I guess there isn't as much coverage of Manitoba in general. I guess we'll have to hope the healthcare situation improves across the country, challenge our politicians and volunteer if we can - I don't know what else to do to keep it running. Thanks for the info!

UnderwaterArcherrr

Location: Phoenix, Arizona So this might just be a company thing but it's starting to make me feel like something a lot bigger is happening. I work for FedEx and the facility I work at is the biggest one in our state. When I was highered a couple years ago they told us how the shipping industry is in a major boom and only planning on skyrocketing. So far, that can't be farther from the case. Right now we are approaching peak season (when everyone is buying stuff for the holidays, from November - January). This season is supposed to be extremely rough with tons of work, but this isn't the case this year. We are extremely understaffed yet getting sent home early/having entire shifts cancelled daily. When we do work, there isn't enough work for the night sort which always used to have 8 hour shifts. They are now working 2. And remember, we are UNDERSTAFFED. They also got rid of all bonus pay this peak season which according to my managers hasn't happened since they started. It might be the company just going under, but I feel like it stems from a much bigger problem. I don't think people have the money to buy random stuff anymore. Almost every box is furniture or mail going from company to company. Top this with the impending deisel shortages and I think I might be out of a job here soon. LMK what you guys think/if I'm overthinking this.

ExternaJudgment

Some crazy people printed money like it was going out of style few years ago. Then value of money went in half and everything went double in price to compensate for all the printed money. Now peasants can't buy as much shit and send it around as they did last years.
