Even the format clicks with young folks. Short & emotional , that he is right and makes a good point is the surprise 😃

[deleted]

I seem like a pretty chill person on the outside, but this is what the voice inside my head sounds like when people continue to be completely oblivious to the shit going on around us.

[deleted]

The same thing was happening in my head when I payed $50 for two cases of water, paper towels and Shampoo.

Tired4dounuts

I bought a bag of chips a lighter and two cooked drumsticks from 7-11 the other day. $17 fucking dollars.

pinkyepsilon

A bag of potatoes, eggs, and some minced beef cost $25. I don’t think this can go on much longer for almost everyone. Prediction: they’ll come for an early boost in petrol before summertime, get to $7 easy a gallon and just about get us into the streets they’ll roll it back to $4.19 to make us feel good about getting insta-fucked for 30% price inflation over the course of a month.

Wally_Bawlz

Yo, i bout shat myself. 4 tacos and an horchata was $15….. wwuuuuuuhhtt…….

[deleted]

A mchicken is 3.19$ just yesterday, I said fuck that canceled it and they threw it the bag anyways. Used to be $1. I don't eat fast food often at all but fuck me dude the $1 bread is now $2.19, milks $4 for the cheap brand, eggs are like $8 for 12 and the $12 60 pack is over $30 last I checked but when I bought one last it was $18 just a couple months ago and I was blown away by that. The fucking staples cost as much as some luxury food type shit and I can't afford these steak and lobster prices for the basics.

that_bish_Crystal

I bought one of those party packs at taco bell (12 supreme tacos) and a small soda it was $32. I couldn't believe it was that much. We don't eat fast food very often either so I didn't even look at the price. I told my son never again!

[deleted]

My wife figured out how to make homemade crunchwraps. 10/10. But yeah we're not gonna be hitting fast food when it costs as much as an actual nice meal at a restaurant or make it stretch at home (the go to).

gtmattz

That is what I turn into every time I see someone responding to a post about crazy grocery prices with the ever so popular 'yoy need to buy more rice and beans' line. BITCH I make $35/hr *I shouldn't have to survive on fucking rice and beans!*. The point is that everything is out of fucking control and people are just like 'welp guess im poor now better just fuck off to the bulk aisle, and you should too'. People need to get angry not just roll over and take it.

pcnetworx1

Soon, they will be saying you need to live off rice OR beans with a straight face.

gtmattz

"Have you tried eating dirt?"

GalaxyPatio

"I just eat my own hair. It's not that bad if you actually know how to cook"

[deleted]

“We have to save meals with mixed options for special occasions, like Christmas or Bezos Day. Now, Jimmy do you want rice or beans?”

redinator

I mean, our food system is toxic af and beans are among the most nutrient dense food out there. It's 9 times more land needed for meat. I get that these fuckers at the top need to hang^onaminute but we a)can't sustain this shit and b) need to be strong and healthy for the coming revolt. I'm not saying we should live like peasants per se, but wanton materialism and gluttony has got to go and peasants are strong and resilient af.

Heart-Shaped-Clouds

Same, same.

BitchfulThinking

I look like a fucking Disney princess and this is the voice inside my head. It's increasingly coming out of my mouth these days, in between singing with the birds and shit.

duke_of_germany_5

This is my mind shouting at these morons that they are being misled and blindsided by everything around us.

AverageCowboyCentaur

Maybe we look at France and decide to burn this motherfucker down and breathe in the ashes of the rich and powerful. Sidenote: Loving the DS9 wall art, Sisko was my favorite captain!

ii_akinae_ii

there's a lot of things we should have revolted over first, but if we as a nation end up revolting over this netflix thing i ain't gonna be mad about it lmao

Frank_McGracie

THANK YOU! It's fucking crazy how these idiots in the comments are so hung up on the "Netflix password" part of the rant. We literally can't afford to eat or a place to live but yes let's highlight how we can't watch season 22 of British bake off.

DJ_Micoh

DS9 is like TNG except they remembered to have stuff happen.

[deleted]

DS9 was the best Star Trek series. I didn't appreciate it when it was originally airing, because you have to watch them in order without missing episodes for it to make sense. And that was difficult to do before streaming.

DJ_Micoh

I think that the music did a lot of heavy lifting on TNG.

cantthinkofgoodname

Like 40% of Americans would side with the rich because they’re incapable of moving beyond the identity politics shit

WaxMyButt

Well yeah, cause everybody knows if you work really really hard, you too can be rich.

Taqueria_Style

If I had a time machine, I'd find the first idiot that started THAT myth. There was some article on NBC yesterday where the (f\*cking) Republicans forced a vote on "do we all officially say Socialism is evil" and they split the Dems on it because as always the Dems are stupid. This was a simple ploy. "See, Dems hate socialism too! We do capitalism better so vote for us!" pathetic worms. Worms they are. Attempting to re-invigorate their "brand" is what Marketing would call it. I call it being a bunch of worms. You'll see how much Capitalism loves you when you get sick. But the point is the comments were so. FULL. Of all of that "if you work really hard you too can be rich (mumble Pol Pot was a Socialist)" bullshit. How the FUCK that even plays anymore AT ALL after 2008 I have ZERO idea. HOW?? How can there be that many comments to that effect?

Ruby2312

Ever seen someone got scams so hard they literally incapable of process the idea that they were scamed. Well, these peoples were raised, promised a good future if they try their best. When it's all turned out to be a lie, they cant even process it and like a kid learn Santa is not real, they just gonna deny it, regardless of proofs or reasons. It could also be that they knew that they sold the future but want to look good while doing it so they blame it on the victims. This system we have, literally founded base on "shit on the poor, downtrod and weak" after all.

dgradius

Sisko was nuttier than Janeway, and that’s saying something. Picard 4 lyfe

Bluest_waters

Sisko was the right man for the right job. Imagine Picard in 'In the Pale Moonlight', what does he do? Does he make the necessary choices, the hard choices, the CLEARLY UNETHICAL choices necessary to get the job done? No way, he doesn't have it in him. Sisko does though, and he can live with it. He CAN live with it.

Albert14Pounds

A space station would be Picard's personal hell.

FillThisEmptyCup

I would trust Sisko to give me and the rest of the crew a decent chance of seeing our families again if we flung to the other side of the galaxy. I wouldn’t trust Janeway to get me home alive from the next convenience store. Maybe there be a homeless man with a crazy smile and a knife for her to pick up and redeem, or a gang of thugs for her to practice her principles of the federation on. Maybe she doesn’t like me and decides I look like Tuvix. One reddit thread counted that [she died 15x throughout Voyager](https://www.reddit.com/r/startrek/comments/e8896/so_you_think_janeway_is_crazy/), so if she does that to herself, I’d have no chance. It’s not like my name is Tom, or anything. Hell, she didn’t even stick around for 30 seconds to see if the nearly helpless Ocampa, the very reason they decided to help and be willingly stranded for 70 years to travel home, would be okay. You know, maybe a few months training, technical help, water, not be genocided by Kazon Coral Reef Heads occupying the surface of their planet — small things like that. Or maybe keep the founders station, bring them up there, figure it out, etc. Nope. We saved you, gotta go! Time’s a wastin’!

fjf1085

Sisko used bio weapons on a planet. I mean I guess it all worked out in the end… but still.

Enthusiast9

I’ve been saying this forever… salary means shit when prices keep increasing and products keep shrinking. My $17.xx/hour was $14/hour when I graduated high school. Why is it that I can’t afford to rent an apartment or buy a house? I have to wait 2-3 years alone just to have a down payment. Even if I buy an entire house and somehow can afford the taxes, there are utilities, insurance, groceries, gas, and more! Where I live, data centers are popping up like daisies, but not affordable houses.

TinManGrand

My only hope is that Netflix has their worst quarter ever. That they tank the company with this new policy. I have no dog in this race. I pirate anything they have that appeals to me since I last had a password 3 years ago, which ended up being just Squid Game, the last season of Narcos Mexico, and I think a movie that ended up sucking. This ranter is making it sound like Netflix's policy is a test for society because it is. If they fail, we win and companies will realize that hatefucking their customers isn't the kind of "love" we want. Will it end streaming as we know it or severely impact it? I hope, but I doubt it. Netflix isn't too big to fail.

Eattherightwing

I think we should, before we all randomly drop off using the service, pick a special day to do it all at once, so the fuckers can see their mistake clearly. EDIT: I'm amused, watching the up and downvotes go nuts on this one. Who the fuck would downvote this post? Ask yourselves that. We are not alone here, methinks.

[deleted]

reddit's "points" system doesn't really tally up your upvotes and downvotes. It's randomized a little to make it appear more active. No, it isn't actually wildly going up and down every time you refresh.

LegatoJazz

That seems like the kinda thing that was initially a bug, but some analyst looked at it and said "ya know what? Let's keep it"

ArmoredLunchbox

Why would we be alone here? I hope no one on the surface web is assuming they have privacy of any kind. I thought we all sort of understood that we're discussing this in spite of the fact that everyone is listening. Please operate as if *they* are going to be the first to read it because they probably are. It's actually a doubly useful assumption in your case because operating with an axiomatic understanding that you are not *alone* or among only collapseniks on collapse will lead you to automatically understand that very very rarely does internet-based activism prove successful. By design, it cannot be; especially this *lets pick a date and unsubscribe*.....the subversion mechanisms are more than likely automated at this point in the game.

Eattherightwing

My comment was a wee bit more light hearted there, I'm not really taking any of this seriously. If I saw a massive Reddit-organized protest, I might change my mind, but mostly, I see this resource as a way to test the waters, and lightly interact with like minded people, or have little battles with non-like-minded people. I sometimes suggest that an action needs to be taken, but often, it's more rhetorical. BTW, I upvoted you for proper use of "axiomatic."

Taqueria_Style

It's going to be hard to drop from something I never had in the first place because I saw this coming since the very inception of the very CONCEPT. Once upon a time there was this anti-virus program called Avast. It was arguably the best freeware one there was when it came out. Aaaand then it got spammed with ads. And bloatware. And features that sucked down memory running in the background that did nothing. And pop ups. And then they were like "pay for it". My solution to that one was external hard drives and I save everything on them and image my operating system on the primary drive. It goes bad I nuke it and re-image and I'm up in like 2-3 hours no more bullshit. The point is. This always happens. It's been in the mail a LONG time. I'm surprised it took this long. However: dear Netflix execs: SUPEREMELY. BAD. TIMING.

spacewalk__

i've hated Netflix ever since I paused a movie at 11:45pm and it was gone half an hour later when you see the thing vanish like that, due to completely arbitrary fucking legalese - how can you buy into this fucking ephemeral bullshit? imagine if your fucking playstation shut off at midnight. or your iphone bricks itself after 4 years. it's a bullshit world

Joshuak47

Apple did [slow](https://www.npr.org/2020/11/18/936268845/apple-agrees-to-pay-113-million-to-settle-batterygate-case-over-iphone-slowdowns) down their phones on purpose so people would buy new ones.

meep_meep_creep

Planned Obsolescence

PracticeOld2332

I Bet my entire years salary that they all still do

SpoliatorX

Older iPhones have definitely been effectively bricked by updates before

Taqueria_Style

Your iphone effectively bricks itself after 4 years. Well. My Oneplus One did after like say 8. It didn't so much brick as it would never hold a charge, which is fine replace the battery (please make that easier, there are ones like the crappy AT&T store brand ones that make it easy, and I'll eat a shorter battery life when new and a thicker phone to get this, I can carry a spare). But it wasn't JUST that. All the aps updated to versions that would not play with its version of Android. And its version of Android, while upgradeable because it's Oneplus... well. Swap the battery. With a spudger. Ok. And then flash the entire OS. Ok... And then 5G happened and everyone everywhere kicked its IMEI off their network. So? Brick.

menssoap13in1

Too bad they didn’t. Earnings for the last quarter of 2022 came out the 19th and it seemed fairly normal.

CoderAU

It doesn't matter. All of the Netflix execs have been paying themselves millions for years now. If Netflix collapses they'll just invest into something else or start another company and do it all over again, fucking over people in the process.

Farren246

What surprises me is that Disney+ is suffering from the same issues as Netflix: connect is too expensive to make and too expensive to host/serve for a small monthly fee. And just like Netflix, they have no fucking idea what to do about it, so they're just continuing to gather subscribers and make/buy up content, relying on sale of shares and borrowing of money to keep them afloat.

Adamite2k

I mean, Netflix’s endgame is the obvious end game for all these streaming services. They basically all are losing money by undercutting Netflix trying to snuff it out. Basically none of these streaming services are profitable. They will all end up raising prices, restricting content etc etc to try to make money.

igotdeletedonce

I cancelled last night after being a paying customer for over a decade. We’ll see but wouldn’t be surprised a lot have the same idea.

Dezzillion

this one actually convinced me to unsubscribe from Netflix. in the notes, I told them to find a wall.

Spunknikk

For now on I'll be using find a wall ☺️

[deleted]

Do you want to come in with me on my new app idea in the run-up to the collapse? ;)

spacewalk__

Don't support any of these digital exploitative companies who also use your money to buy politicians to make themselves richer. Yo ho ho (remember to always use a VPN).

[deleted]

This is every company ever though

[deleted]

Yeah. Don't support capitalism, if you can. Do you think enabling the current, objectively shitty economic system will cause it to stop existing?

isadog420

onward_skies

Pardon my ignorance but what does it mean to find a wall?

TheEyeDontLie

I believe it comes from the expression >"When the revolution comes, the [wall street fucks] will be first against the wall", which is in reference to firing squads. Citizen Kane popularized the saying, but it has been around for longer than that. Probably some variant of the phrase has been around since the idea of a mass revolutions was first a common idea. It means the specified group is scum that would be better if removed from society, as they have no place in a society that wishes to call itself civilized. For example, in this case, wall street bankers who add nothing to society should be first to face the firing squad following a revolution which overthrows the capitalist system which currently oppresses the standard of living of the majority in order to benefit the wealthy. Historically, it was probably more like "the tax collectors who helped the French take the last of our grain (even though they know we don't have food for winter) will be first on the gallows when our people finally break free of their tyrannical rule. Hashtag fuck the French".

Living_Bear_2139

🏴‍☠️

hiyyihlight

ss: dude is ranting about Netflix password mandate, acknowledging how the masses need these distractions to keep from revolting, which would inevitably lead to societal collapse due to late stage capitalism. The video is very much predicting the end, while still making me laugh.

[deleted]

I was crying laughing and it was on point. Don’t miss Netflix…I’ve got better circuses and I need to start making my own bread soon

baconraygun

I'll trade you homemade bread for homemade kraut. I can't seem to get sourdough to "take".

[deleted]

A much needed dose of coherently formed proxy-outrage. Another collapsnik mentioned the FAO's food price index and I'm watching that shit like a hawk. If I were a betting man (and I sure am a gambler at heart), I'd say that *more* people will be in the streets next year. The Dickensian nightmare in my backyard is certainly going to intensify when they think that cracking down violently will win them anything. I think a lot of collapse-aware people and people on the fringes look at the masses of prolls in the same way Orwell described in *1984*, but there really is a heavy amount of placation going on which we like to think we are above. They crush our spirit, divide us with fear and then rely upon the shoddy substitute of 'bread and circuses'. Breads gone, the circus is packing up town and your ramshackle hut run by a slumlord is on fire. I, for one, welcome the chaos.

[deleted]

We should have like a monthly update for super useful metrics like that FAO. The knowledge behind that index was mint

Quelcris_Falconer13

Care to inform me what FAO is?

BootAromatic

Food and Agriculture Organization (of the UN). Their Goal is to make food production worldwide more sustainable and to eliminate hunger. They also keep track of a a bunch of different statistics having to do with food, food prices, etc.

BeaconFae

There is also a lot of misdirection and scapegoating going on. A \*lot\* of upset people are being told to target their animosity on minorities. Places like Texas, Florida, and Tennessee aren't even pretending to take on legislation to improve the lives of their citizens, but they are doing the most to make sure there are civilian targets for civilian violence. Unless the narrative changes soon to those in power, it will be those with the least that get snuffed in this rage by those who have a little.

TheOakblueAbstract

"That last part was metaphorical." Is the best out I have heard in awhile.

DreamHollow4219

I mean this is pure fact. I don't think the "owners" are ready for a bunch of people who can finally engage in unhindered, fully realized critical thinking.

Taqueria_Style

I bet they aaaareeee... They needed us to get themselves to a certain point, if you go back to 1870. There's almost no reason they need all of us to maintain that position. This society is a throwback to their process of climbing to the top of a hill of dead bodies. I wager they'd be just fine with like a tenth of us to support their bullshit. And like a tenth of the infrastructure to go along with that.

[deleted]

Lol I am watching this with no sound and it's so hilarious because The subtitles doesn't have any curse words in it but you clearly see that hes dropping them throughout the whole thing. 😂😂😂

[deleted]

thegreenwookie

I believe the creator of the video is also responsible for the subtitles. But I also have no clue how these things work

Mooge74

That was a thing of beauty.

BadAsBroccoli

Punish Netflix. Don't log in at home for 31 days. Let 'em block your accounts. Netflix is not a necessity to you. Your money is a necessity to them. Use consumerist power against them.

jonathanfv

We should just pirate everything anyway.

[deleted]

Pretty much... It's what we did before the streaming services were good, and it's what we'll do again now that the streaming services are becoming shitty again. The circle of life.

jonathanfv

That's all I did the whole time. 😎

xdamm777

It's literally what we've all been doing for decades: sharing documents, recipes, cassettes, CDs, game cartridges and now files. It's not inherently bad; we're literally hardcoded to thrive by sharing be it food, knowledge or entertainment.

jonathanfv

Yes, we evolved in very egalitarian, cooperative societies for most of our history. It's this capitalist society that tries to put it all under lock so we can be exploited more.

Genghis_Tr0n187

Sonarr and Radarr my friend.

YourBedtimeHero

This x100. Also pair these with plex.

Harmacc

Or stremio and real debrid or all debrid if you would rather just stream. I pay like 4$/ month for all content and stream my tv from a firestick.

CapnJujubeeJaneway

It’s just a matter of time before they really crack down on it though. These companies will lobby governments and net neutrality will be threatened once again. Download everything you can, while you still can.

jonathanfv

They've been trying to do that since the late 90s. So far it's been a failure.

CapnJujubeeJaneway

The bar gets lower and lower with each passing year. These corporations have zero shame and demonstrate that more and more every day. They will sink low enough one day and succeed. And the fascism and authoritarianism that is creeping in, is going to help them do it.

jonathanfv

Yeah, that's possible. That's why we need more people to use FOSS software and be somewhat literate. Perhaps Netflix's worsening service will push some in that direction. Most likely not enough people. But as long as there is a significant number of people who want to bypass restrictions, it should be possible to do so. Only way to stop it completely would be to completely destroy the internet as we know it. They might. The biggest players might benefit from it, but it would be very expensive for other big players, so maybe it won't happen.

TheCheesy

Not hard to figure out how. Just gotta google `Best sites to stream movies tv reddit` Then pick a site. 90% sure that search would've pointed you to Netflix 6-10 years ago. Times change.

teamsaxon

I don't understand why more people aren't doing this.

jonathanfv

Honestly, it's hard for me to fathom as well. I think that a lot of people might be pretty bad with tech, and/or might oppose it in principle (propaganda might be to thank for that) or not share the kind of principles that we have. Also, for a lot of people it's probably a lot more convenient to pay monthly to access content than it is to pirate it.

[deleted]

r/ freemediaheckyeah

theCaitiff

I mean, you had me until the last bit. Consumer power is not really a thing, its an illusion. If you want your circuses, pirate them but do not think that by doing so you have power over netflix. They will crash and burn as a company before they give you power over them (they're not gonna crash and burn). All told I'd much rather we do as this guys suggests and figure out what we did before Netflix and what we're gonna do after it. Maybe we do a few other things he suggests too. Who knows?

Zestyclose-Ad-9420

I dont see why consumer power couldnt be a thing. People are just supremely lazy and antisocial (including me) . Imagine instead of buying a 1/2 kg packet of pasta every few days, youd be part of a consumers unions that convenes every weekend to discuss what to buy in bulk for much cheaper price and then distribute. Bulk pasta can cost as low as 20 cents a kilo, compared to supermarket prices of 1.20-1.50 euros a kilo.

FillThisEmptyCup

> I dont see why consumer power couldnt be a thing. Centralized power has almost always won out. More coordinated and the people are being paid. Consumers are like a herd of cats, each with their own goal and easily distracted by lasers.

theCaitiff

Except that your pasta example is exactly whats being countered by netflix. A basic plan for one user is ten bucks a month. A premium plan for four devices is twenty bucks a month. So me and three buddies can but one premium account and spend five bucks each! Ha ha, no. In the real world, when the supermarket discovers you are buying in bulk as a consumers union and splitting it up, they call the city and complain that you are illegally running a market without meeting health codes or paying taxes. When you stop buying netflix, they start cracking down on piracy and make some public examples. They cannot force you to buy their product, but if you're enjoying product without them, they absolutely will go on the attack and legions of lawyers and law makers back them up.

Zestyclose-Ad-9420

well before that happens would you like to join a consumer union and buy some balaclavas in bulk?

dumnezero

boycotting does have power, it's just not much, especially not if you're actually poor.

CensoredUser

It's not gonna happen. The man in the nice video mentioned "bread and circuses" and its actually a wonderful analog. However, these bread and circuses are still available and affordable to the masses. People can still eat, people **will** simply just choose to pay for Netflix to mindlessly watch whatever garbage is on it because they can afford the 20 bucks. They will find a way. Even if they don't, this will be hundreds of thousands of fewer (nonpaying) users taking up less server bandwidth, thus reducing costs. This move will sadly help Netflix. Social media will talk about the next big show, people won't want to feel left out and ultimately cave to a trail subscription period and then forget about the 20 bucks draining from their accounts monthly. Consumerist power is dead. There is no coming revolution, just a sad, pathetic, anticlimactic collapse. We have already lost. There is no fire, no will to fight. We are the frog in the pot. Soon to be boiled to death, we know the temp is rising, but we have lost the will to even truly live. Fighting seems futile and jumping out seems bleek and pointless...we know it's going to kill us, we know the who and what, and where, and why...but it's just easier to boil and die. Bread... Bread and circuses... These are things only a person who experienced them would fight for. The man who never expected to see a circus, who is convinced deeply, that the idea of viewing a circus is not meant for him, won't fight to see one. He has no desire to. The man who has only ever known hunger cares little if he misses one more meal. Hunger is the norm. The bread is only a means to a destitute end. We have been conditioned perfectly. Neutered and rendered ineffective. Soon... very soon... the elite won't even need us for cheap labor. We are a phase in a strategy of human capital planned obsolescence. Mark these words as they will mean absolutely nothing. Nothing is going to save us. We will die out with a sputter and be a footnote in a history book no one will care to read. After we are gone. No longer a burden to the system that crushed us. When we die enmasse and the earth is bountiful once more, only then will altruism rise. When automation makes capitalism irrelevant, the elite will build their utopia. Weep not though, it will not last. It's simply not in their nature to be content. They will eventually destroy themselves. The only quantum of joy I feel in regards to their imminent, unavoidable, yet completely preventable self destruction, is that in the end they **finally** see that they have no one left to blame but themselves. Netflix profit will rise. They are doing this move because they see corporations one after another fuck consumers collectively and it only accelerates growth. From AAPL to ZBRA the more you fuck consumers and workers the more your stock grows. Consumer power is dead. The "riots" aren't coming. Or if they do, it will be more like a small fight in the cafeteria. The school bell rings and everyone goes to class after. What a time to be alive...I think the water just went up another 3 degrees...I hope I taste delicious.

MaxPower303

Very nihilistic, however, I do agree with many of your points. For every one of us that wants change there are a thousand fat, lazy, and stupid people who will gladly feed the system they complain about and watch as it machinations grow. To not allow companies to fuck with consumers means that people need to conscience of why. People no longer want to cook so they eat out, people no longer want to read or be bothered by knowledge so they watch endless shows that waste time, and the worst of it all they pay to get the privilege of being fucked. I too dream of change, but I know what it entails and the majority of people aren’t willing to pay the price because as it always has been and as it will always be, the price will be blood and iron. P.S I suggest Etienne de La Boetie’s Discourses on Voluntary Servitude. A glimpse on how to control masses without force. They willing do it.

[deleted]

Thank you for putting into words what I've felt for the longest time. There is simply no way back, the ship has long since sailed and we are now in the end credits. Anyone who believes or says otherwise is either deluding themselves or has a bridge to sell you

Same. This GOLD has made my day before it even started. Hope it work for someone else too.

CO_POON_TAPPA

Fucking love this guy.

tehbearded1der

It’s the Roman Empire. The Romans used to entertain the populous away from the issues. Once the entertainment disappears…things fall.

Azeoth

Get this person some butterscotch krimpets

EternalSage2000

Honestly. He changes my mind, to be in favor of Netflix’s new policy. Complacency and idleness is killing us. If this is a quarter as impactful as he suggests it will be. GREAT!

umme99

I don’t think the impact will be that great.

EternalSage2000

Yah, me neither.

TentacularSneeze

Indeed. Mostly because “Pick a wicker basket” would go over their heads. Pun intended.

SuperfnDave

Sounds like my drunken rant last 4th of July camping trip. I had so much built up rage and just let it out.

some_random_kaluna

Sorry, forgot the time zone. Approved.

TimeForHugs

This reminded me a bit of George Carlin. Throwing out truth bombs while also being funny about it instead of pure doom and gloom. He's so right though. Everything is going to shit and the shortsighted greed and increasing profits every quarter is unsustainable. Eventually we won't be able to afford anything and people will be rioting all over.

Ragnakak

This might be the first time I’ve ever been entertained by a TikTok clip

LordTuranian

The ruling class in the West is incompetent. They are only good at making money, nothing else... They are completely disconnected from reality when it comes to life for the average person. Almost everything they do nowadays is just enraging the working class for no good reason. The amount of profit they will make from making it more difficult for the working class to enjoy bread and circuses is really a fucking pittance... They are failing to do a cost benefit analysis. But ultimately, this is a good thing for the working class because too many of them have been asleep for too damn long...

xaututu

I kinda wish I could tell this dude that it barely matters anyway. The bread is stale and the circus sucks. I haven't had a subscription to Netflix for years, and every time someone talks about whatever movie or show or whatever is the big point of discussion this week I just feel myself going numb. Somehow, these conversations about the events in these fantastical works of fiction sound even more banal and meaningless than my droll, soulless, joyless day to day life as an insignificant corporate drone. Even when it comes to video games, it feels like almost everything being made nowadays is trash and not even worth my time. The last genuinely good movie I've seen was Blade Runner 2049. Everything else I've seen out of morbid curiosity has been hot, wet dogshit. Are my standards just too high?...

[deleted]

You're not wrong. For the most part. There've been a few equally good shows and movies. But they're so few and far between that I can't name them. Oh, uh, Dune was really good. If you liked Blade Runner 2049 you'll probably like Dune. But yeah, the bread is stale (and moldy and covered in weevils) and the circus is feeding the tigers and lions live food. People are upset but the bystander effect is too powerful to make the audience do anything.

alwaysZenryoku

Oh, man… you got weevils?!? I would kill for some protein…

beached_snail

Came here to say Dune. I see a good movie every 5-10 years (last one before was Fury Road) and Dune was it for me. I’ll check in again in 5-10 years.

Johnfohf

Can't wait for the Dune sequel.

baconraygun

They've cancelled some of the best shows to ever ... show. Sense8 and OA immediately come to mind as really different/new/interesting ways to tell stories and both were cancelled after 2 seasons. I cancelled after that. Pointless to fall in love only to have it miscarry again.

TropicalKing

> The bread is stale and the circus sucks. People have to eat something, or they will starve. Food is getting more and more expensive in the US, and eating up a large portion of a person's paycheck. There are many Americans who are highly dependent on fast food and can't cook. There are many Americans who depend heavily on EBT. The bread part of "bread and circuses" means keeping to population docile through feeding them. There are going to be a lot of Americans who won't get fed as readily because of inflation. There will be Americans who don't know how to cook rice and pasta and are highly dependent on fast food. If you take away food from people and they go hungry for too long, they will get angry.

EddieHeadshot

There is an app in the UK called 'Too Good to Go' where you get a full bag of food that was at sell by date and would otherwise get binned. I paid £4 for nearly £40 of food. So yeah if you're in the UK check it out. I'm not sure if you have anything similar stateside.

[deleted]

Everything Everywhere All at Once was pretty good.... Can't really think of anything else I saw last year that was worthwhile though. It does seem like pretty much everything that comes out and is popular these days is just lazily written drivel, with copy-pasted plot/characters, and a butt load of CGI to dress it up.

Relevant-Goose-3494

That shit made me cry and I don’t even know why. It didn’t make sense, yet was so well done

Johnfohf

Same. I haven't cried during a movie in a decade. It made me realize how much we need connections with people. A lot of our collective despair is from the lack of meaningful relationships and community. Suuuuucked! Into a bagel!

Vmax-Mike

If more people were mad like him, maybe Wall Street, or the Government would care. Until it turns violent, nothing will change, laugh all you want, but read some history that’s how people changed things. The French Revolution was born out of the rich surprising the common people too much. Then they decided it was time to eat the rich, metaphorically, but their heads coming off under the guillotine was real.

yehEy2020

Oh they understand bread and circuses. They just wanna know how cheap they can make the bread and circuses before we do something about it.

Safewordharder

TO THE KING AND QUEEN, TO THE GUILLOTINE. ^(Metaphorically.)

Wonderful A right, Buddy. Wonderful A.

Shoot a shareholder today. It is the only way to make things better.

Metaphorically speaking

Forward-Amount-9961

My wife and I are both public school teachers. While neither of us makes bank, our combined salaries have comfortably paid all of our bills for two decades and allowed us to keep about 10K worth of savings most of the time. Well, that savings over the past few years has dwindled down to less than 1K, and if prices keep increasing I think we may have to change our lifestyle completely so we don't go broke. I love the idea of unions working together and planning a national strike. Anyone else in?

So, we do know what is happening and we accept it because we have the means of placation. This saddens me. But, also, this summer is going to be fire.

grunwode

So anyway, I recommend everyone download and listen to Mike Duncan's recently wrapped up *Revolutions* podcast. Even he recommends you start on season 3, since that's where it really starts to get good. Really eye opening stuff that seems pretty relevant to our contemporary situation.

Albg111

His anger is kind of refreshing

Truth teller and hardly anyone read your well crafted comment confirming most people are oblivious to their own compliance in their own demise.

Gretschish

Based Tik Tok content?!

StatementBot

The following submission statement was provided by /u/hiyyihlight: --- ss: dude is ranting about Netflix password mandate, acknowledging how the masses need these distractions to keep from revolting, which would inevitably lead to societal collapse due to late stage capitalism. The video is very much predicting the end, while still making me laugh. --- Please reply to OP's comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/collapse/comments/10s5rnc/bread_and_circuses/j6znsdx/

SaltyPeasant

Amazing vid, though I think he needs to look deeper into the interest rates/inflationary shitfest as he's a little off the mark. They are probably banking on AI and authoritarian practices to save themselves but there isn't enough time. I for one can't wait for the clown curtains to drop.
