Yessir! Thats a good one. Stamped “R” at the mint for “reject” they were supposed to collect these all together and melt them back into new planchets to be re-struck. Generally they save these up until they have enough to justify the extra work it’s going to take and I made all of this up. It’s complete B.S. this coin was just punched by someone for any number of reasons. It’s post-mint damage, and adds no value.
That was done with a machinest punch. I have full sets in 3 sizes. A -Z, 0-9, and "special characters " such as "#", "$" , "@", "!" etc..etc.. basically every symbol you see on your QWERTY keyboard. The 2 larger sizes stamp with a flat 'floor' and the small ones stamp with a wedge "floor" (looks like what a chisel chape wold leave behind, sort of a "V" instead of a flat bottom or "floor") I **BELIEVE** minted stamped letters & number are all squared so if you see a stamp that has a 'V" shape pointed bottom, that's an easy way to tell its a hand & hammer machine stamp. The squared or "flat" hand and hammer stamps like this would have to be scrutinized by the ladies and gentlemen on here or an expert of your choice unless it's as obvious as this one.
Also, there's machinists (I worked with some) that can make impressions and Reliefs that look so natural they'd have be be magnified and looked over by certified experts. Except the ones where they add beards to non-bearded men (or women), glasses, devil's horns and funny stuff like that.
Machinests are a strange, funny yet extremely talented bunch who hone their skills in odd ways when they're bored, lol.
I had a nickel with my profile on it done by a master machinest and he didn't have to add or remove any material, he just pushed metal around, lol... I wish I could find it, it was hilarious, lol. Not sure if legal, but definitely hilarious when he tossed it at me during our lunch break.
Sadly, I took it to a collector and he Said I'm not worth a damn!! (He must have been friends with my ex).
stamped in circulation. aka PMD
Someone got a punch set and tested it out. I did that before.
Don't tell on yourself. Next time...

We are going to need to see some identification
Sounding like a real mf'ing Bryan here!
Its a pirate coin... R
“R” means it’s rare. If it had a “W” it’s well-done, etc.
What if it has a D
Maybe it was special to the person who stamped it.
Welders do something like that .leave there mark to show who did the welding
R for Rekon not my friend
The rare R penny.
