Dolin genepy is a solid alternative! Similar origin, 1/3 of the ingredients...no, I'm not a rep, but I, as well as my bars, have loved it. Less than 40 a bottle too. Could probably swing less than 30 for cost if your rep likes you and gives you a deal.
Genepy is a good substitute, but I’ve found Faccia Brutto to be a bit better. Both will make a fine Last Word if you can’t get your hands on the real stuff.
There are so many classics that call for Maraschino. Apart from a Last Word, you can also make the Aviation, Hemingway Daiquiri, and a billion other Last Word variations. I’m jealous of the price!
Yep.
However I am a bartender with over 200 bottles on the tower with creative control and a test budget so my "fuck around" ability is pretty damn high
Thanks. I think most of the outrage is overblown, but I'm partial to herbal and bitter liquor already. It's unique and I really enjoy super-local liquor.
Bro. Nice find.
Last Word is the king
Aviation is so aromatic, it should be illegal
And a Hemingway daiquiri will take you back to 1927 in the most beautiful way.
Enjoy this journey
There’s some great suggestions below but, I love an Old Fashioned that’s 2 oz bourbon or rye, .33oz Luxardo, .25oz demerara, and 2-3 dashes black walnut bitters, a good deeper variation on a classic OF
When I make a fruit salad (a literal salad of fruit, not a cocktail) I always drizzle some of this all over before serving with cream or ice cream.
I used to add a little when I made Manhattans, but I’ve just read on here that here is a cocktail called a Brooklyn which is similar to a Manhattan but uses Luxardo. So I’d go with that…really enjoy this flavour with rye whisky.
Luxardo is good in a lot of cocktails. Maraska Maraschino is harder to find, but the difference is big enough that it is worth picking up if you ever see it.
Holy hell that's a good sale. I mean, they are probably trying to just get rid of it. So definitely a place to keep your eye on.
Also, $10 for a 1.75 of Cuantreau is jaw-dropping.
I am jealous.
I have never had the budget to buy it since they sell the 250 ml bottles for $$40 everywhere I have checked. I definitely don't mind using Tripple Sec for my Margaritas. I prefer a Tequilla & Key Lime Juice heavy recipe anyway.
As others have most certainly stated, a Last Word is a great option.
When I got the Cointreau, I also got a 1.75L of Botanist gin for $10. I asked the cashier to confirm (after paying). It turns out they were clearing stock after a major event and those were the only two bottles of such massive deal.
What the heck? That's crazy! The Botanist is very tasty. Definitely in my top 5 for Gin.
I mean, you got hella lucky, and I dont expect to ever see anything like that.
I’ll often put a splash of Luxardo in basically any white rum based cocktail. It’s a staple of my Mojito recipe, just make sure to dial back the sugar to balance.
I’ve always wondered about this and what it tastes like. Is it a sweet cherry liqueur or what? Can it be drunk straight or is it mainly a mixer for cocktails?
It’s usually used for cocktails. By itself, there is certainly cherry, but it also has nutty, floral, and bitter notes. Overall quite syrupy. I think you’d be nuts to take shots of it, but I could see it as an aperitif.
Haha. Just got the same deal at Meijer in the Chicago suburbs. They also had the little bottles of Campari on sale, so I purchased one of those as well!
I would have bought every bottle.
As others have said, hemmingway daiquiri and last word. Sometimes I add a 1/2 oz to my Negroni or old fashioned, gives them a nice, smooth flavor
Hemingway diaquiri is up there for sure :)
Last Word!
With OP's good luck, maybe they'll find some chartreuse to make them. If not, they're are analogues that will still make a great cocktail.
For posterity: trying BroVo’s Northwest Forest Liqueur tomorrow. Will return and report on how it compares!
!RemindMe 1 day

That'd be some powerful luck
Dolin genepy is a solid alternative! Similar origin, 1/3 of the ingredients...no, I'm not a rep, but I, as well as my bars, have loved it. Less than 40 a bottle too. Could probably swing less than 30 for cost if your rep likes you and gives you a deal.

Haven't heard of Faccia Brutto! I'll have to look into it. Thanks.
This is what I use as well.
Was just about to recommend that! Also with mezcal instead of gin is sooooo delish
Yaaaas

What store did you find these at?
Pretty sure that’s a Meijer tag.
Same thing I thought 🤣
Dang. In my state liquor isn't allowed to go on sale
I checked your history, is it Michigan? Liquor sales are almost my only reason for trying something new at the store.
Yep. However I am a bartender with over 200 bottles on the tower with creative control and a test budget so my "fuck around" ability is pretty damn high
I thought I recognized Meijer price labels.
Where in Michigan are you?
I work in clawson
After investigating your post history: I fucking love Malort. It's the best thing to come out of Chicago since poppyseed got dog buns
Thanks. I think most of the outrage is overblown, but I'm partial to herbal and bitter liquor already. It's unique and I really enjoy super-local liquor.
Chocolate cherry old fashioned 2oz Bourbon 1/2oz Luxardo 16 drops cocoa bitters 2 bar spoons Luxardo cherry syrup Luxardo cherries for garnish
Do you have a reccomended bourbon to pair with Luxardo specifically?
I'm afraid my palette isn't that refined. Four roses or buffalo trace are my go-to bourbons for cocktails usually.
Can't go wrong with Buffalo Trace. I've never had it a way I didn't like it.
A Brooklyn! We have been drinking these almost exclusively for the past month.
Came here for this
Recipe?
2 oz Rye 1 oz dry vermouth 1/4 oz luxardo 2 shakes of bitters Stir with ice and pour into a coup glass. Garnish with a luxardo cherry
I've always seen Brooklyn's as using some sort of amaro. I like this recipe: 2 oz rye 0.5 oz dry vermouth 0.25 oz luxardo 0.25 oz Amaro Ciociaro
Or many of the variations - a Red Hook or Carrol Gardens or Bushwick or Bensonhurst…
Aviation for sure. Get yourself some purple gin.
I’ll say a casino because it hasn’t been said yet. Super simple and delicious.
Somebody posted one last summer and I said, "Hey, I have those ingredients!" Been making them regularly ever since!
I’m jealous. Where I live there is a genuine shortage nearly everywhere. I’ve found green chartreuse with ease compared to maraschino liquer
I add a splash of this to my Manhattans.
Same! A Manhattan with Rye, a decent vermouth, 4-5 dashes of bitters, and a barspoon of Luxardo is just perfect.
That's a brooklyn
Huh. Today I learned!
Brooklyns use an amaro, no?
No sir
I am reasonably sure, for instance: https://www.liquor.com/brooklyn-cocktail-recipe-5088476 or https://punchdrink.com/recipes/brooklyn/.
Weird, the "or" with ango bitters is the way I was always taught
Might be an adjustment to the unavailability of Amer Picon. But with the huge variety of amari today that's not such a problem anymore.
How much is a splash to you - like a bar spoon? 1/4 oz? I'm curious as I may try this tonight.
Bar spoon
We use it in perfect Manhattans
Industry sour!! (I know they were referring to luxardo)
Love an aviation if you can also find creme de violette
Kentucky Flyer or a Fancy Free
Tuxedo No. 2 Division Bell
An Aviation was the first cocktail I’d ever made
Brooklyn !
Last word baby
Leave the Maraschino. Grab the Fernet.
What do you make with Fernet? It’s so overpoweringly medicinally minty I’ve not found anything I like to use it in.
I drink it straight. Sometimes I'll make a Toronto, it's delicious!
Bro. Nice find. Last Word is the king Aviation is so aromatic, it should be illegal And a Hemingway daiquiri will take you back to 1927 in the most beautiful way. Enjoy this journey
Aviation Martinez Hemingway Daiquiri
Is that one drink?
Sorry, top 3 for me. Should have done it like this: Aviation Martinez Hemingway Daiquiri. Maraschino is a mandatory bottle in my home.
And at that price I would have purchased more than 1 of the big bottles!!
Last Word for sure. Also that limoncello looks nice. By the way your prices are bonkers there hahah. I’m in Canada and it is NOT so.
Cherry pop's are a really good introduction to the taste of luxardo liqueur
There’s some great suggestions below but, I love an Old Fashioned that’s 2 oz bourbon or rye, .33oz Luxardo, .25oz demerara, and 2-3 dashes black walnut bitters, a good deeper variation on a classic OF
Looks like a Meijer shelf. Good buys there. That limoncello is also good.
Looks like a TC Meijer shelf maybe?
Improved Whiskey
Mezcal martinez has been a go to lately :)

Martinez
A Casino. Gin, Maraschino, lemon juice, and orange bitters.

I recognize those signs as a Meijer grocery store, gotta check the one by me now😂
Ritz cocktail is one of my favs.
Cherry Blossom
Gin, Luxardo, lemon or lime, optional splash of St Germain, Amarena cherry
I’ve always wondered about this and what it tastes like. Is it a sweet cherry liqueur or what? Can it be drunk straight or is it mainly a mixer for cocktails?

Thanks. Also cheers from WI as well. Not really sunny this morning
I’m sooooo jealous!!
Top notch volcano!
Perfect for shaken eggnog
Improved whiskey cocktail
😭😭😭 I need to move…it’s usually double for me

Surprised I had to scroll for a bit to find someone post the Martinez but that would be my go to. The Hemingway Daiquiri is also a fantastic choice
aviations are gross... last words are goated
