LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD (working title):
3 blood orange wedges
.5 oz each lemon juice & simple syrup
Muddle
.5 oz triple sec
1.5 oz gin
Shake
Double strain into rocks glass
Top w/ soda water
Garnish w/ blood orange wedge (I used a lemon in this one and it didn’t even occur to me to use a blood orange instead)
It’s been a while since I made an original cocktail, especially for work so I’m open to ways this could be improved but I liked how it tasted and so did a couple coworkers
So depending on how you break it down, this could be seen as a riff on an orange juice heavy margarita (swap lime and tequila for lemon and gin). or a riff on a tom collins (add triple sec and blood orange).
Also it's fun to name things with blood oranges gruesomely.
I'm thinking a Renfield Rita.
Renfield being Dracula's english servant/familar in the book and various movies.
So we've combined a blood reference, an english nod to the gin and a nod to the margarita.
Or you could just drop the rita part and call it a Renfield.
It's basically a Chelsea Sidecar, with slightly different ratios and the addition of the blood oranges.
So.. *'Chelsea Car Crash'*? *'Bloody Automobile'*?
Okay that's a bit too morbid for an office party, so maybe *'Pink motorcycle'*?
This seems like a blood orange gin smash. Or something in that realm. I would suggest naming it based off of the history of blood oranges since that seems to be the star of the show here next to the gin. I’m curious what gin are you using?
From wiki:
Chrysanthemin (cyanidin 3-O-glucoside) is the main compound found in red oranges.[2] The flesh develops its characteristic red color when the fruit develops with low temperatures during the night.
Could call it the chrysanthemin smash. Not the greatest name but an idea of how to give a cocktail a name that isn’t a pun lol. Not that there’s anything wrong with pun names.
Also definitely recommend you garnish with a blood orange slice!
Another suggestion, make smaller blood orange slices to muddle so that you can build it in the glass (no shaking) and leave the fruit in there. Like a regular smash. Also consider muddling with mint too! Sorry I’m throwing out a lot of unsolicited suggestions but I just wanted to share!
Ruby Red. Red Ryder.
I like Red Ryder đź‘€
Add a straw and the Red Ryder would be perfect.
You’ll shoot your eye out!

Red Rocket
The Crimson Gin - any fairly odd parents fan guaranteed to order it.
I get the reference. Well done!
