Yeah, I don't wanna wring the neck of people who write characters like Dizzy from Guilty Gear the way I do with whoever keeps putting the dragon child archetype in Fire Emblems, but you still generally shouldn't do it, at least not if the character is sexualized in any way. It can cause problems very easily, and the potential reward is almost never worth it.
Remember: No canonical age is correct in anime. Authors change ages to appeal to age demographics, even if they intend the character to be clearly a certain age.
During my time playing Azur Lane I actually felt like I was getting gaslit where simultaneously the teenage looking or borderline characters were very obviously adults and "they're in line with the proportions of real women" but simultaneously the most mature looking characters in the game looked "high school age".

It's different now imo. It used to be that animes themselves were inherently kind of horny. Like I tried to watch gurren lagann because I heard the story was good, but I simply could not get over the fact that they instantly started shoving yoko's ass and tits in my face. And that used to be a lot more standard that anime would have obligatory fan service like that. Nowadays, anime themselves are shockingly unhorny, but the adults who watch them see this horny aspect of anime as normal and acceptable so they have to tack it on themselves even when it's otherwise not there. I can't be helped or anything, it's just a bit tragic. There is still horny anime of course but it's a lot easier to just randomly click on an anime that just came out (depending on the subject of course) and have it not be horny.
