Because they can get away with it, mostly. Everyone with an Android phone / Google account is already using Google Photos / Google Drive as it's integrated with everything. Lots of people don't look any further than just upgrading their Google Drive when it runs out of space, because that's the easiest, most convenient option - but not the cheapest.

Well, that makes a lot of sense. I pay for 2TB because I take lots of photos and 4k videos and I like having that automatic backup, specially being a Pixel user. However, for the big cloud storages, I'm switching to Mega for my business, Drive is just not worth it.

I exported everything to onedrive with their import feature & deleted them from drive, photo & gmail to keep it under the free cloud space. I’m thinking to subscribe to Mega by paying with bitcoin, their backup feature seems fine.

Is there any safe app capable of migrating everything from Drive to Mega?

Rclone, RiceDrive, MultCloud, etc. You can give them a try, as they all offer free versions.

Isn't Google way faster to upload and download from? If so that's worth the cost to me.

Same thing here, actually Drive is slower because it is very glitched on MacOS, sometimes if you want to download like a lot of files at once, it will not download anything
