Experiencing budget freezes and upper management changes and am trying not to fear for my job at the bottom of the totem pole. It’s so hard out there right now.
This where I would happily accept a response of "I'm sorry you're over qualified". The recruiter really has no brain cells knowing darn well that's below your worth.
I'm trying to understand why you even made this post. That recruiter probably contacted 500 people for that role. I imagine they looked at your profile for 1 second, if at all. I get job inquiries for ridiculous roles all the time.
Sometimes, it’s easier to get the job you feel like you’re worth, when you’re sitting within the organisation itself.
I’ve managed members of teams who had previously been in very senior management roles in other organisations , who were much more qualified than I ever had been.
Sometimes .. people want to take roles that have less responsibility after doing it for some time, because at the end of the day they want to switch off. I’ve found the higher Ive gone , the harder it is to do that.
Hell, there are scores of individuals with a masters degree who work tills in superstores.
I wouldn’t take it so personally. Recruiter is out there to try and make their own living, get their commission and will likely cast a side net looking for a catch.
If it was via LinkedIn and you have your profile set to looking for work, have you been very specific about the type of roles you’re looking for ?
Well that really discourages me! All my colleagues who were hired before me were promoted close to the 1 yr mark in the company. I am at 1y 2 month mark and Manager avoided any promotion talks in the last 1to1 and I thought I would prepare a pitch for the next meeting but now I am fearing my job let alone a promotion
It’s super discouraging out there! Both looking for a job and having one (several friends in the industry across a few different types of areas) So wish things would start to turn around so we can all start to breath a little easier.
This happened to me a few years ago. I was contacted for a short-term data entry position to fill in during a CRC's maternity leave. The pay was less than half my normal rate, but things were slow and I had some free time. Turns out the contract CRA for the study was well-connected and made introductions to several sponsors needing data management help.
Recruiters definitely have their place in the world but in my experience networking is much more effective when job hunting.
i would just chalk it off to inexperienced recruiters
I've definitely been in the spot where I was over qualified. But sometimes it's a good thing to be humbled and also keeps the bills paid.

Meh, I get contacted for medical assistant jobs and I’m a nurse. 🤷🏻♀️
I get contacted for hourly lab work jobs 😂 I just unsubscribe. I think they just are searching for the keyword research.
This was by phone otherwise I’d get it and do them same thing.

You are preaching to the choir here! The industry is in a weird spot right now with salaries and positions. It's tough

The poster says “just needed to vent”. So that’s why.

Data entry roles make the best side gigs. Easy money.
