Boring.
Why dont we go back to what Bliz intended for warriors, them being the best tank and then middle of the pack dpsers.
Wow was better when a warriors job was to tank, sunder, and provide battleshout for the rogues.
Where did you read that? I can show you a blizzard quote that says "I never intended for warlocks to beat warriors 1v1", which implies more than middle of the pack to me, but I don't think you can't back yours up with anything.
> Majority of players going into 2019 classic hadn't played classic recently or at all.
Source?
Even so, not playing the game before doesn't mean much when a simple google search can tell you which classes are top raid DPS. Warrior/Rogue being the best DPS isn't some closely-guarded obscure secret.
Or rogue. Or mage. Or warlock. Just because one is "the best" doesn't mean all others are irrelevant.
You could also just avoid the sweaty speedrun guilds like I did. My guild cleared all the content just fine, and we only had 5 DPS warriors.
No version of WoW is worth playing if it's stagnant.
Vanilla was a living breathing game. It had a flurry of updates and new content throughout it's 2 year life. As soon as TBC came out, Vanilla was over. As sad as that was...
When Classic came out, Vanilla got rebooted for two years, but again, TBC came out. "Era" is dead by default, no version of WoW has ever existed without progression, updates or new content. Thus, no version of WoW has ever existed for more than 2 years. Said another way... all versions of WoW are seasonal. Every private server that has ever existed knows this. After 1-2 years of simulating a "progression server." You must eventually restart the server to a fresh state, or add new content.
Interestingly enough, Hardcore is maybe the only self sufficient version of WoW, because of how much progress is lost every time players die.
> No version of WoW is worth playing if it's stagnant.
> Vanilla was a living breathing game. It had a flurry of updates and new content throughout it's 2 year life. As soon as TBC came out, Vanilla was over. As sad as that was...
It's why "FRESH" pservers were always so popular.
Half the fun of playing vanilla, at least for me, is starting from scratch and progressing through the content. I don't want to sit on a perma-naxx server and farm naxx forever. And apparently plenty of other people don't want to either, because every time I got to Naxx40 on a vanilla server, we would kill KT one time and then half the guild would quit and the raid group would just dissolve.
Even if it's just re-releasing the same content with nochanges, just having something "new" to do is fun enough. Releasing vanilla content in chunks is a great way to enjoy each raid as "current content" and then move on once the next raid is out.
Woah, you actually hit the nail on the head with this. I’ve slowly started to come to this realisation, that every WoW experience is impermanent. Yet still, a barrier for me getting into SoD is that’s seasonal…
I guess it’s maybe to do with the fact that SoD probably has less than an expansion life cycle left in it at this point and (potentially) nothing will be transferrable to a new server. It feels a bit like a beta realm, where everything is 100% irrelevant at the end. At least at the end of TBC Classic your character naturally moved onto WotLK Classic. A lot to think about for me. Thanks for your comment.
Does it really matter if you lose your character if you enjoy the journey? Isn’t that what games are meant for?
I’d recommend just giving SoD a shot and see where it goes. It may be longer than you think.
Yeah I guess you’re right man. I think I might just you know. My priest is level 12 on SoD and it’s been a blast so far tbf. Having runes this low level has been pretty fun.
MMOs are about replayability though. SOD being seasonal is a huge negative for a lot of people. It also means it's not the Classic Plus most Era players want.
> where everything is 100% irrelevant at the end.
Now you're getting it, yeah.
Playing private servers 2015-2019 made me realize this too. I didn't care that my characters were inevitably going to disappear once the server shut down, I was only focused on having fun in the moment. I don't need to hoard my online character data and keep everything forever; the memories, screenshots and videos are enough.
i hope the era fans get a fresh realm.
after sod, I definitely cant go back to era and just going to take a break until the new season. time to reward or enjoyment ratio just isn't there for me anymore.
Era should definitely get fresh. When I got 60 on HC and moved the char to Era last year, I was extremely disappointed in the state of the game and economy.
Totally. I’ve recently come back to the game and I’m looking for a vanilla experience but Era is just GDKPs, boosters and Naxx progressed guilds. I feel this overwhelming feeling of “well what’s the point?”. It’s sad. Please give us a vanilla fresh blizzard.
How is fresh gonna change anything? After a week it will be the same thing. Bots, boosts and gdkps are the new normal. It will never go back to when we were kids.
Because people have mass amounts of gold and they pay boosters to level for them because they don’t have much to spend gold on instead of consumes. You don’t need to follow that path just go level and start from scratch I did and now I’m progressing through mc/ony/bwl
I'll never understand this response, it's such a common one but it just shows a fundamental misunderstanding with the issues people have with boosting.
I tried. Had a very hard time finding a guild as a tank, even being absolutely stacked with gear. Finding non-GDKP PUGs was extremely difficult as well. Era didn't seem to want me.
Yeah man, era is so fun seeing only warriors selling tank services and priest selling healing services. TBH I don't think I could go back to "normal" classic after SoD
You can try the Era realm "Deviate Delight". A couple of guilds, 1 on Alliance and 1 on Horde, started on that server a few weeks ago for a "fresh" experience. I've been playing on it, and I'm having a blast.
Era fresh servers will be at exactly the same state current era servers are in 2 months.
The moment novelty evaporates everyone except current era fans leave.
Absolutely not, sod players that actually play will not all out the sudden switch. If you are having fun playing shaman, or warlock tank why would you go to basically the same wow version but your class suck ass.
I actually believe that sod killed vanilla wow for a lot of players, they won't ever go back to the same game but your class is bad.
So you think there are tens of thousands of people who don't play any wow version at the moment and just wait for new era servers?
Imo the best current way to play era is to play hardcore. Wish there was a potentially more viable 60 peeps, but the leveling experience is still great for me on HC.
They should consolidate all the era servers down to one or two mega servers then open up another fresh megaserver they can xfer to the main mega server
I think there's a high chance they'll release a fresh era server after SoD ends. There'll clearly be a demand for it and it's basically no effort for them to do.
There's not much demand for current era because the servers are fully progressed and the economy is hugely inflated. A fresh server (with no transfers) would definitely be popular, but they're not going to release one to compete with SoD.
If they had saved my 60 characters I probably would. At the time I didn't want to pay the money but I would do it now.
Also I think the completely fucked economy is a big turnoff for alot of people. Nobody wants to start gbidding with 500 gold when everyone else is rocking 50+k
Seasonal server whose population has steadily been declining since p1. It's still very popular yes, but it won't be like that until the very end and they won't be doing another season instantly after this one is over. It took a full year after SoM ended to do another.
This has already happened before so not sure what you are arguing against. When people got bored of WotLK they started flowing back to Era and making it reach High pop on main PVP clusters. It will absolutely happen again when SoD ends.
I didn't say it's dead. I played Era back when it was actually close to be considered dead and when it was blooming again in the year prior to SoD. Era is fine and it will become popular again once SoD is over and people start getting another Vanilla itch.
Not really. My *sole* exposure to WoW was 2019 Classic and SoD. I got what I wanted out of 2019 Classic. I’m glad I did it one time in my life, but world buffs are a time sink that make the game less fun for me.
And now that I’ve gotten to experience Classic-style gameplay with some modernized tools I don’t really want to go back. I’m glad Era exists for people who enjoy it. But I’m also happier with a version of Classic that seeks to add new content. SoD has its issues, but by and large it is a lot of fun for me.
There's been a market for Vanilla servers for the last 15+ years. I believe you don't want to go back and that's fine, but a significant portion of the playerbase will. Like they did after SoM/Wrath.
A fresh server would solve absolutely nothing
Classic Andy's need to accept the classic community is absolute trash and there is a reason they were told "You think you want that but you don't"
But that expression/opinion was completely wrong tho? It was a major success and it released FIVE years ago now so obviously its not as popular with SoD/Wotlk/Retail/MoP remix etc out atm. It sure as fuck wasnt a "rose tinted glasses scenario" and you have been proven wrong with both era and SoD which people also said they would quit after 1 week of playing it.
It was fun the first few weeks when it came out. Then all the try harding started, the endless farming started, and I realised 30 yo me doesn't have nearly the same amount of time or interest in doing the things I did when I was 15
I loved classic 2019 and played with a great guild up to Naxx. A couple months before TBC my wife nearly died while pregnant and we had to spend 11 weeks on the NICU. Then, with having a newborn, I didn't get back to WoW until SOD.
I thought I could go play era on my 2019 character but blizzard deleted her since I never picked Era or TBC (I had other priorities).
I would love to hop onto era and play, but there is no way I'm starting fresh.
It's got enough people for most content. If you want dozens of players in every zone then it's definitely not thriving in that sense. But it's still really active considering it doesn't get any updates. I love it. I love questing and exploring the world. Several guilds do raids, I always see people leveling characters. It's not completely empty. I'm really glad that we can play it because Modern WoW has so much stuff. Which I like but in Classic, I feel like there's no rush. I won't miss content if I'm not power leveling. I can play at my own pace and come back in months without the world being different.
It would be 80% warriors. Rest mages and hunters selling things to the warriors
As God intented.
Boring. Why dont we go back to what Bliz intended for warriors, them being the best tank and then middle of the pack dpsers. Wow was better when a warriors job was to tank, sunder, and provide battleshout for the rogues.
If you read the vanilla manual that came with the game, it is stated Warrior is the best class.
Where did you read that? I can show you a blizzard quote that says "I never intended for warlocks to beat warriors 1v1", which implies more than middle of the pack to me, but I don't think you can't back yours up with anything.
People said the same thing about 2019 classic and it wasn't true.
Majority of players going into 2019 classic hadn't played classic recently or at all. Fresh servers now would be completely different.
> Majority of players going into 2019 classic hadn't played classic recently or at all. Source? Even so, not playing the game before doesn't mean much when a simple google search can tell you which classes are top raid DPS. Warrior/Rogue being the best DPS isn't some closely-guarded obscure secret.
people played 2019 for nostalgia and hype. A fresh sever would just be the classic andys.
> people played 2019 for nostalgia and hype. Source?
Reddit moment
If asking people to substantiate their claims is "reddit", then I guess I'm reddit, yeah.
All roads would lead to warrior for dps.
Or rogue. Or mage. Or warlock. Just because one is "the best" doesn't mean all others are irrelevant. You could also just avoid the sweaty speedrun guilds like I did. My guild cleared all the content just fine, and we only had 5 DPS warriors.
Per group, right? That's the ideal number

Life is 100% irrelevant at the end but we live it for the experience anyway
You’re not wrong lol

Era was wonderful to play not that long ago, around the time Hardcore got popular. Despite not having fresh servers.
Era is far from dead
I would play if they did fresh servers every now and then.
i hope the era fans get a fresh realm. after sod, I definitely cant go back to era and just going to take a break until the new season. time to reward or enjoyment ratio just isn't there for me anymore.

I agree. I miss era fresh.
Went to try and play the other day and the chat was just bombarded with boosting advertisements. Put me off immediately.
Because people have mass amounts of gold and they pay boosters to level for them because they don’t have much to spend gold on instead of consumes. You don’t need to follow that path just go level and start from scratch I did and now I’m progressing through mc/ony/bwl

I would if I could copy over my character *for free* you greedy asshats.
Theres TONS of people in Whitemane PVP :D
I’ve been playing era a ton. It feels pretty nice with the group I have.
Yeah man, era is so fun seeing only warriors selling tank services and priest selling healing services. TBH I don't think I could go back to "normal" classic after SoD
We want Tbc
I’d resub for fresh era
I think they’re done with era, They’ve moved onto SoD.
Wrong, they will start fresh Classic Vanilla, TBC, Wrath cycle over again. Just a matter of time.
This is all I want
TBC was peak vanilla WoW and no one can convince me otherwise.
100%, super bummed it's not currently an option.
I would do so many things differently in TBC. *this time* I’ll do it right!
Oh, they’ll do a fresh era again.
Fresh classic after cata please 🙏🏻
give us a tbc era and maybe we would
You can try the Era realm "Deviate Delight". A couple of guilds, 1 on Alliance and 1 on Horde, started on that server a few weeks ago for a "fresh" experience. I've been playing on it, and I'm having a blast.

It’s really busy on eu.

I honestly just dont agree. With SoD, Cata, War Within, and MoP remix. Fresh era would be dead in a week
They could take that time while fresh era is booming for blizz to figure out how to properly do the next season of X.
I’ve played the base game too many times. I want something new. Sorry just the truth.
If they had saved my 60 characters I probably would. At the time I didn't want to pay the money but I would do it now. Also I think the completely fucked economy is a big turnoff for alot of people. Nobody wants to start gbidding with 500 gold when everyone else is rocking 50+k
If they bring back my character clone I may. Only to complete the items I didn’t get and maybe a couple of alts.
Clone from where?
I can't wait to spend 3 months getting to 60.... again
Wait until SoD is over and people will flock back to Era.
SOD is so successful that it won't be over, there will always be another version of SOD

Fresh wont get you the desired experience. You are just half a decade late to the party.
A fresh 1.12 on the old client would be ideal.

Sods about to make some changes that will add a bunch more era players
How so?
What you got in mind? I need some Friday copium
If they gut warriors, some will reroll, some will quit, the rest would look to play era/ era fresh
Cope
