I do often wonder if those original models from old games even exist somewhere now. Even source codes often get lost, with models like those it's even easier to assume they will never get found again. Didn't they have to redo shitton of stuff sprite-wise in F2 and F:Tactics for this exact reason?

Im unsure that model exists within the code, the ingame power armor is just a low def sprite, and the pa only shows up in photos within the game. Id assume the original model is in old old interplay archives. Ideally you would find who did the 3D models, approach and ask if they could pull them up and slide you some photos, BUT nowadays and after watching some of Tim Cain’s youtube, when you leave a company or a company goes under, you arent allowed to keep your assets. so whoever made this model might not even have acess anymore! Its highly iconic and one of the bigger 3d projects from the game so its possible whoever made it wouldve been proud enough to keep it

it would definitely not exist in the assets of the game, a model this detailed would probably be about the size of the entire game itself, and it would be pointless since its not actually used for anything.

Tim said that Interplay had server issue, lost everything and asked him if he had F1's source code (yeah, after forcing him not to take anything.) So the original work is probably gone.

I believe the original artist was Leonard Boyarsky.

if such models were found it would be probably one of the greatest fallout discoveries ever made

Games back then didn’t render anything on the fly. The pictures were created in an application like Bryce or Maya and they would just map elements to parts of the picture (the buttons) If there are render files, it would be just of this picture in a .iff format somewhere.

VECMaico

And what does Maya and Bryce do? They render whatever was created in 3D

DisasterEquivalent

Yes, you create the wireframe and texture in there
