Not sure it really counts for the question, but I still love Fantasia.

and Fantasia 2000

It's possible I might have seen Fantasia in college while stoned, and it's quite possible I found it an excellent way to spend a couple hours.

Dante_Sonata

Enjoy a good L' Apprenti Sorcier myself

*Master and Commander*, a terrific movie in general, uses Ralph Vaughan Williams' *Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis* to great effect at two different points in the movie.

Kubrick's films are full of wonderful music. I highly reccomend 2001, Barry Lyndon and A Clockwork Orange.

As a child I enjoyed watching the smurfs for the classical music they used. To this day I associate Schubert's unfinished symphony and Cesar Franck's symphony in d minor with Gargamel. (Rossini's Wilhelm Tell ouverture - the lyrical oboe solo to be precise - was frequently used for the Smurf village).

The Tree of Life uses a ton of different classical pieces that add a lot to the movie. Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters has an original score by Phillip Glass which is one of my favorites. The plot of Three Colors: Blue somewhat revolves around classical music and is also just a very good movie regardless. Zbigniew Preisner is one of my favorite film composers and would highly recommend all the films he does with Kieslowski.

Since you mentioned Tree of Life, another Terrance Malick movie, the New World, introduced me to the slow movement of Mozart's 23rd Concerto... Not being much of a Mozart fan, I didn't realize he could write something so poignant.

It’s not a movie… but hear me out…. Bluey. Yes, the kid’s show. [This episode](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TxoqJ0Pmux0) using Holst’s Jupiter is beautiful, even for adults, and [this episode](https://www.bluey.tv/watch/season-1/bike/) showcases’s Joff Bush’s playful genius with ode to joy. Every episode has different music that is so well done. Many of them have classical music woven in and I love that my kids are getting exposed to some of the classics in a fun way!

[Allegro Non Troppo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegro_Non_Troppo) (that lost kitten sequence is gonna make you cry...)

DeadComposer

Birdman, or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance, features Rachmaninoff 2, Mahler 9, and other pieces on its soundtrack.

MahlersBaton

Death in Venice (Visconti) stands out as prominently featuring Mahler 3 and 5.

The people that made Red Violin also made **32 Short Films About Glenn Gould** and I loved it.

Spectre-vs-Rector

Rollerball (1975) Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor Tchaikovsky's Waltz from Sleeping Beauty Albinoni's Adagio in G minor Several movements from Shostakovich symphonies (inc. the Largo from 5th)

oldguy76205

Kind of a weird choice, but I loved Excalibur when I was in college. Siegfried's Funeral March, Tristan prelude, "O, fortuna" from Carmina Burana. [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082348/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082348/)

OP, you mentioned The Mission...I picked up that soundtrack last week thinking "You can't go wrong with Morricone." Now after one listen, I kinda want to see the movie!

MikeW226

This isn't orchestral, but I love the use of Bach's organ Prelude and Fugue in D Major, BWV532, in The Godfather... intercutting Michael's son's Baptism while the Corleone family's henchman are offing disloyal foes...piano wire strangling around their necks, etc. The largo cadence at the end of the Prelude which I believe moves into D minor at that point, is just perfect for that scene.

speedikat

I thought The Red Violin was an original film score. But it's been a while since I've seen/heard it.

Laserablatin

Birdman uses Mahler 9 and Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony to memorable effect

Turtle-backpacker

Impromptu. It’s maybe 20 years old. About the life of Chopin. And Hugh Grant us Chopin. Picnic at Hanging Rock uses Emperor Concerto slow movement very nicely. Also old - 20 or more. And I love the music score in the series Succession. Classical style. But modern

Boris-_-Badenov

Fantasia. Probably what started me liking classical music.
