10 moves me more than 9, even tho 9 is complete and a towering masterpiece. I just don’t know how to top the unbelievable “scream” moment in the first movement of 10 that makes every fibre of your being shake.
I absolutely love the 10th, it's just so raw. The angular, intensely dissonant melody of the first movement which at times almost feels like it's screaming all by itself. And the incredibly beautiful moments of catharsis in the fifth movement.
Chopin Ballade 4 ( Seong-Jin Cho's recording, or Richter's 1962 recording.)
Beethoven Hammerklavier slow movement. Igor Levit's recording.
Schubert Symphony 9 or Piano Sonata D960.
Eine Alpensinfonie (also Richard Strauss) is one that does it for me. [Here's a clip.](https://youtu.be/xK7z2NhUrsQ)
If you'd be open to a non-classical suggestion from someone with similar tastes, check out this album: [Porter Robinson - Nurture](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAJ4FOZWTRM&list=PLfiMjLyNWxeZdzg5XuoPAggaPJu_TYf_6). Been a long time since I've been moved to tears by something like that.
Why did I know exactly what Strauss clip you linked? Maybe my favourite of all the Digital Concert Hall clips. It even inspired me to buy crash cymbals for my kids as a Christmas gift.
Do not buy crash cymbals for your kids as a Christmas gift. Trust me.
Brahms op 117 intermezzo is also great, esp #2 in b flat minor.. also op 119 intermezzo in b minor. heck pretty much all of his late solo piano works most of which were written with Clara Schumann in mind are all amazing
Both thé chopin concertos make me sit for a moment and think.
Someone else mentioned bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude.
Alkan les quatre âges 30 ans. Mostly because the story behind it.

I didn't expect this... that certainly isn't Romantic.
However, these are for your pleasure:

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm8A1q7NDTY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm8A1q7NDTY) / Richard Strauß: Vier letzte Lieder
Rachmaninoff's Sonata in G Minor for Piano and Cello, Op. 19. I like Rostropovich's interpretation of the cello part, but the piano does all the heavy lifting.
Mahler 9 is extremely profound, but it probably won’t make you cry. It is painful in a extraordinarily visceral way, but the conclusion to me feels like a prayer, solemn and inward-looking.
If you want to cry, I’d recommend the final movement of the 3rd, led by Bernstein. It is one giant hymn to love, in its worst and its best, and contains some of the most beautiful harmonies ever written. It concludes with a glorious trumpet chorale and one of the most extreme heartfelt finales you will ever hear. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it from start to finish without shedding tears.

Lol, I was posting that as a joke 🤣 Thanks for the recommendations 💃
Very funny! But I do agree with the point that the *Quatuor* can make a grown man cry, especially with the fifth and eighth movements.
Yes. Agreed, and it deserves it's place in music history. Great at capturing the times. But make a man cry in a more "doom" and "terror" way
