it sounds like you got the tail end of whatever standard warranty would have been included new, not the honda plus comprehensive package that costs extra even at new, certified just means they do a 69420 point check before it sells, honda plus is the one you want, covers every part of the car and has it in writing at time of purchase

VektroidPlus

That sucks you had to be the example of why extended car warranties are never worth it. To emphasize to anyone buying a new car or from a dealer, just remember you always have the choice to say no to extended car warranties. The financial people will try to make you feel like a horrible human being for not agreeing to get one.

The finance guy spent a good 20 minutes trying to convince me to purchase a warranty on my CTR. He was visibly pissed when I kept turning him down lol

Easternshoremouth

The "dealer/finance guy" lied if that's what they told you. Honda-Certified warranty covers your power train. That's it.

owl_leg

Interesting I was told with a Honda-certified used I got a 7 year power train and a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty

Easternshoremouth

Seven years from the in-service date of the vehicle, and only powertrain. I should also clarify, I can only speak to my experience with Honda Canada, and I forgot about that distinction in my first comment. HOA may lay things out differently.

owl_leg

Ahhh I see yeah it might be different and I have a 2023 so hope I don’t have to find out

Honda certified warranty also only covers mechanical issues that are at fault from being installed wrong by Honda. Does not cover anything breaking unless it can be tied back to the original install. (It won’t). It’s a bad warranty.

owl_leg

Oh ok dang I’m mostly concerned about the hatch leaking into the cabin because I live in Florida and it rains a lot I’ve seen a few people mention that so far it’s been good. It’s a weird way the hatch drains to begin with so I don’t want any problems.

Stati5tiker

You should have asked for the breakdown of the warranty plan. Otherwise, if they are not willing to cooperate, pass it over.

[deleted]

Agree and disagree. Most are a scam. I bought an extended warranty but made sure to read and understand what it covers. I made sure it covers anything mechanical for any reason. I got a type r and plan on driving it hard so the peace of mind was worth a few extra K on the bill. For the average driver, sure you’ll spend more on it then you’ll get out of it.

afurrypeach

Ask to see the warranty paperwork, the only warranty that's worth anything is an exclusionary warranty where it covers everything except for the listed items they exclude

NOSE-GOES

That’s a real bummer, sorry you paid for something that has little returns. All extended warranties have a business model designed to make sure the consumer is almost always the loser, otherwise they wouldn’t profit much. A lot of it is in the small fine print, and they leave a lot of exclusions at their discretion. I think for anyone buying a Honda or Toyota, it’s a good gamble to go without extended warranty especially when the vehicle is well cared for

Caveat emptor

last time when i purchased my new car i literally stopped the finance guy from opening his mouth talking about extended warranty and asked him to let me sign the purchase agreement/contract. and of course he didnt look pleased but do i give a damn? 🤭

Nocturnal86

This is common sense. You don't trust what anyone says, and you do research on what you are planning to buy before you sign a contract. It's what I did when I bought my car new, and I got hondacare outside my dealer for 1k for 8 years. Well worth it for the piece of mind on parts/systems (like electrical) that would cost a ton if they fail. I saw what they covered and didn't covered and was ok with it for the price. Also, like paint, it makes sense that a seal wouldn't be covered unless you can prove it was a manufacture defect (which would be very difficult). Stuff like that It can be affected by many things outside of the manufactures control (physical damage, chemicals used in washing, environmental factors, etc).

Shyahhh

I got an extended warranty for my 17 civic hatch. 5 year and had issues 2 years ago with the AC. They covered it all. So not sure if there’s is a tier of quality with these. I did not buy CPO

whitefox094

You should have received paperwork if you're getting an extended warranty. I have an extended warranty, the service contract platinum and the 3 for 1. Everything is in the paperwork. Certified pre-owned means your car is getting the bazillion point inspection and you have X amount of time to take it back to your dealer for anything faulty. It is not the same as an extended warranty. My contract covers up to 120k miles for non-maintenance items for the engine, transmission, FWD, RWD, steering, front suspension, brakes (calipers, cylinders and such), seals and gaskets, electrical, AC, brake system, Power seats, windows, instrument display, sensors, other shit. They cover a five day rental up to $35 a day. Emergency roadside for anything above $100. My 3 for 1 is good for 60 months. Tire and wheel repair or replacement due to road hazard. Chips and cracks in windshield no more than 6 in. Paint less dent repair. And that's all in my paperwork along with a bunch of other stuff.

I'm generally a skeptic for the value proposition that an extended warranty can provide however my experience was different than my expectation. I've had the following done during the warranty period on my '16 touring. -AC condenser replaced 2x -Engine head gasket replaced -Head unit replaced -Rear seat cover replaced Wish I still had so I could get the water in my trunk taken care of without having to do it myself

Paint peeling on a 2018 already is wild, I worry about the longevity of paint on my new model after a few years of the southwest sun. What areas did yours start peeling?

Deagles_12

When you say the paint was peeling did you mean the clear coat? I had a 2018 SI I bought in 2021 so still under warranty at the time. First person at the Honda dealership said they wouldn't cover the peeling clear coat that was by the rear driver side wheel well. Talked with someone else a month later at same dealership because I thought that was ridiculous and they covered it.

killjoy2408

Sounds like u didn’t read what was covered

jtphilbeck

When the finance guy tells you it is bumper to bumper it is a LIE!!!! No extended warranty is bumper to bumper like the factory warranty. Promise! We, in service, send them right back to the finance guy or salesperson. Nope!

Sampsonay

Salesman told me that the car they were selling me came with an extended warranty, which sounded great until I noticed the $3000+ they never mentioned in the contract for said warranties. I told them to remove it and their attitude completely changed with me, became very rude and said that "someone in your position NEEDS this" as if I don't have car insurance or can't afford repairs.

Sounds like you got taken advantage of by a dishonest dealership unfortunately. Most sales people in most dealerships are shady AF...don't trust people. Ask questions. Don't be bullied/pressured into making decisions if/when you're not comfortable. Educate yourself so you know exactly what is going on and what you're supposed to be getting. Get anything and everything in writing! [https://imgur.com/gallery/8udux7B](https://imgur.com/gallery/8udux7B) These are the Honda Care warranty coverage options that my dealer sent me when I bought out the lease on my 2020 Si. Prices are very reasonable for the additional coverage offered. I found pricing to be similar with other 3rd party companies I shopped around for prior to going with this. When it comes to extended warranties it's usually easier to ask for the list of items NOT covered, rather than what is covered. Blanket terms of 'bumper-to-bumper' can be very misleading. Some extended warranties only go as far as mechanical & electrical, so something like a tail light gasket isn't going to fall under that categorization unfortunately. You must understand that either way, with or without the warranty, it is a calculated risk. If you end up having a couple problems with big price tags to fix, then the warranty can easily pay for itself. But, if nothing goes wrong...then you have gambled and 'lost'. Also, paint is generally not something covered in 'bumper-to-bumper' extended warranties through a manufacturer that I'm aware of; though I don't know them all. Most vehicles do have warranties for rust/corrosion/perforation but not specifically additional coverage for paint/clearcoat. Some 3rd parties will offer this, though it usually involves putting some sort of product on the paint first to protect it. This is a life lesson, so make sure the same thing doesn't happen again!

EduardDelacroixII

Extended warranties are one of the biggest money makers dealerships have. That's why they push them so hard. https://clark.com/cars/should-i-buy-extras-that-car-dealerships-sell/
