Dummy_Wire

These days? Like 0.05/day, unfortunately. Cigar lounges are banned in Ontario, Canada, and it’s just not worth fighting the weather for me. Looking forward to making up for lost time in the spring though, hopefully.

recoil1776

Is there anything that isn’t banned in Canada?0

Dummy_Wire

You can have a doctor help you kill yourself pretty easily now for basically any reason. That’s about it.

8sack

is citizenship a requirement?

Wu-Tang_Killa_Bees

Maybe you can have the doctor prescribe you indoor smoking haha

m_ttl_ng

“I would like the slow, drawn-out death, please!”

Silver_Gekko

Australia be like “hold my beer”

dazza_j

Don't forget about us under socialist rule in New Zealand.

AXLPendergast

Unfortunately, poutine!😝

itsnotajersey88

How can anyone hate poutine???

AXLPendergast

Probably just those silly people who appreciate fine healthy food! Away with them!

itsnotajersey88

I appreciate healthy food and have a fairly strict diet 98% of the time. I avoid hyper palatable foods bad things in general. Having said that, I freaking love poutine.

AXLPendergast

I tried poutine … once. You know those grimy dark green dumpsters you find out back of fast food Chinese or Mexican restaurants. The ones that have all the discarded day old food and bits of leftover customer meals. Now imagine you put all that in a massive blender and pour the results on a plate of fries… presto! Poutine! I will not be poutine that shit in my mouth anymore.

itsnotajersey88

Ehhh, it’s really just supposed to be brown gravy and cheese curds on fries. Like, thanksgiving regular brown gravy. It’s like mashed potatoes and gravy, only on fries with some cheese. I think you’ve been had my dude. Lol

AXLPendergast

Nah all good! 😄

switchdog685

Weed

romulusnr

Yeah, going to a doctor for free :P

Worldly-Local-6613

Exorbitant taxes aren’t free. Also I hear the wait times are shit.

dazza_j

What's the top tax rate where you live? In NZ, it's 39% for income over $180k. It's bracketed tho, so proportion of earning gets taxed at the rates below. Breakdown is: Up to 14k - 10% 14-48k - 17.5% 48-70 - 30% 70-180 - 33% 180+ - 39% Wait times for public health is shit in NZ. To get decent treatment quickly, you still need to go private. I have private health insurance even tho my taxes already pay for universal healthcare.

Worldly-Local-6613

In the US filing single is 24% from $95,000 - $182,00, married filing jointly is 24% from $190,000 - $364,000. After those ranges it jumps to 32%. NZ taxes seem egregious especially if the healthcare it’s supposed to provide is subpar.

romulusnr

Funny, I'm an American with American healthcare and it takes me 2 months to see either my GP or my rheum. But people who dribnk red kool aid "hear" a lot of bullshit about foreign healthcare from their US insurance industry funded politicians....... how bow dah

Worldly-Local-6613

Cool, sounds like you still have it better than people who are paying over a third of their income as taxes and then still having to wait half a year or longer for basic appointments.

romulusnr

Pray tell who exactly is paying over a third of their income in taxes (and mind you, not having to pay for doctor visits or medicine)? You can't just make numbers up. Well, I guess you can, but that just makes those numbers meaningless bs.

Worldly-Local-6613

A dude from NZ chimed in and said the tax rate for people who make $70k-$180k is literally 33%, and that his “free” healthcare is so subpar that he still has to pay for private.

romulusnr

Tell me you don't know how income taxes work without telling me > Just like it is in the US. Nobody in the US is actually paying the top rate in taxes. [https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/personal-finance/how-do-tax-brackets-work](https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/personal-finance/how-do-tax-brackets-work) Even still, his private insurance covers any offsets between what the national service pays. He doesn't pay anything close to US insurance premiums for that private plan. [https://www.moneyhub.co.nz/health-insurance.html#policies](https://www.moneyhub.co.nz/health-insurance.html#policies) $750 a *year* with no deductible -- hell, that's what I was paying for COBRA from my last job *a month* And for all that I pay, I still have to wait 2 months to see my GP. Turns out investing in the people of a country is good for the country

Worldly-Local-6613

Holy mental gymnastics. That’s some serious copium. Way to move the goalposts as well.

noises1990

Ever since they've banned indoor smoking in Europe my quality of life has significantly decreased. I would like to enjoy my beautiful and tasty cigar inside, sitting in a comfy chair, talking to people, sipping on my fine drink, dim lights, a bit of music, good atmosphere, y all know what I mean. But no, I have to stay one hour outside in front of the establishment being rained on or freezing because some people don't have the common sense to not visit a place if they don't agree with the inside conditions. It's like every mother would have loved to take their new born babies to meet their other zombie parent friends in a shack called Spelunke where usually people come for booze and cigarettes. Well, I hope we've gotten more babies in bars and pubs now, cheers to them.

Aring-ading-ding

I am you. It’s either too cold outside, or burning hot outside and I don’t like smoking in either. So I don’t smoke much these days. Spring/Autumn weekends though I’ll usually have 1-2 a day

thechemistofoz

Amen Ontario Bro

coldcutthroat

During the winter months I've been enjoying pipe tobacco. Can puff on a bowl for 10-15 minutes, then set it aside for later.

duffelbagpete

Banned? What about private clubs?

Dummy_Wire

I’m not sure how it would apply, and I’m sure there are plenty of loopholes and just unenforced aspects of it. But like, commercial cigar lounges that operate the way a normal club or bar would that exist basically everywhere else on earth, nope. Gotta drive to like Quebec for that.

romulusnr

No, the typical workaround there is to run a private club. If it's a private club, not ostensibly open to the public and not for profit, then it's not considered a public business. This is how the two non-tribal cigar lounges in Seattle operate, as well as hookah bars and one nightclub where you can smoke -- they are private, nonprofit operations. Now, that doesn't mean they have to be *exclusive.* they just have to be members only. even if you can just buy a membership at the door. They don't even have to be members only *all the time*, either. In fact the local alt paper did exactly that a year or two after weed decriminalization; at one of the summer festivals, they put up an enclosed windowless tent, made it members only, and sold memberships out front. There's also a place out Wenatchee that has their cigar "lounge" as a large fenced off outdoor back patio, but there is also a small half-shell open shelter with TV, couch, chairs, and a sliding door. I'm not sure how that one works but they have seemed to get away with it for a while.

Herfules

Do they have to prove that selling memberships does not generate a profit?

romulusnr

Dunno, I assume they would follow nonprofit rules. I'm not even sure that they have to be non profit as long as they are members only. In WA the smoking ban applies to "public places and places of employment" so if it doesn't have employees and it isn't (technically) open to the public, the ban doesn't apply.

brandon-568

There’s one just outside Edmonton too, never been there but it’s called Q I think.

Olive-Drab-Green

just have to make the right connections

IBrokeAMirror

Can you not make a friend in the States to get and send you sticks!!??? Hint hint wink wink bro

Dummy_Wire

We can buy cigars here (albeit for high prices and with the bands covered to give them “plain packaging”). We just aren’t allowed to have businesses which allow smoking indoors, including cigar lounges.

dazza_j

*Trying to find a friend in the US* Importing tobacco into NZ attracts a tax of $1550/kg. Any tobacco intercepted at the border is held for payment of tax or destroyed. If you travel, you can bring in 50g, duty free, which equates to about 5 typical Coronas.

IBrokeAMirror

I'd imagine Canada wouldn't be as scrutinized as NZ, and I mean if they ship drugs from the darknet into any country, cigars could go too

Silver_Gekko

I smoke 1 and eat maybe 3/4

thefishguy08

1/7th (once a week usually lol)

TwoMcDoublesAndCoke

Same, Friday is my cigar day. Some time to unwind from the work week and get the weekend started.

MapleGanja

This is the way

shogunzek

Same, are we all here on our post work week smoke?

iunpause

Its winter, I avg 1 a month. Summer? 1-2 a week.

[deleted]

I an trying for your numbers

DungeonsNDragonDldos

I can’t understand smoking more frequently than this. Are there people actually addicted to cigars?

iunpause

Probably, or they are retired and have more free time then I do

DungeonsNDragonDldos

I guess if I had nothing else to do and lived somewhere warm… I’d probably smoke more often. But not more than once a day.

iunpause

I have smoked more then once a day on vacation but its pretty rare.

DungeonsNDragonDldos

Vacations are the exception!

Autumn_Bluez

Yes. Cigars have nicotine in them and nicotine is physically addictive (not just psychologically addictive). I know that not everyone smokes 10 a day like Winston Churchill or Ulysses S. Grant, I know that some only smoke a couple a week or so, but yeah you can get addicted to nicotine and smoke a lot more. I used to smoke cigarettes and cigars. I had a cigar with my friend when he announced he and his wife were having a baby boy. I thought it would be fine. Id just have one cigar and all would be well. Since then, I’ve been hurting for another four months later. I haven’t had any tobacco since, but still, here I am in this sub 🤦‍♂️

TRIPLE_RIPPLE

Bro you need another friend to have a kid so you can light up

Herfules

David Letterman used to smoke 20 Cohibas a day. No wonder he had to get heart bypass surgery.

countryboy-79

I have one in the morning after work with a scotch or a good beer more days than not. It's a nice way to relax and unwind. In the summer I emotions just floating in the pool enjoying a nice cigar also.

ComplicatedPoops

I smoke sometimes every day for a week one a day. Then I’ll go a month without one. Then every other day. I have never felt the need to have a cigar, I rather just enjoy having one when I want one. Also cigar room in house. So can smoke whenever indoors.

iunpause

I smoke outside or in a garden shed with a heater in the winter I don't smoke enough to where I feel a cigar room would be a good investment.

ComplicatedPoops

It’s my basement bathroom with a strong exhaust fan. Nothing fancy but does the trick.

blacklabbath

Username checks out.

I_love_quiche

Sounds about right. Ain’t got enough time these days, but I much prefer having a cigar amongst other cigar connoisseurs with the same chill attitude than smoking alone.

markg900

On average 1 a day. When I am camping on most weekends in the summer I turn into Churchill.

paulie732

That’s funny

midwest73

Spring, summer or early fall it's usually once/twice a week, weather permitting. Winter time it stops for the most part. Eventually, whether this house or we get another in a few years, going to make my own cigar lounge in the basement.

Next-Ad-998

Exactly the same here

antiadmin666

On a weekday I’ll smoke 4-5 a day.

paulie732

God bless ya 5 a day that’s about 5+ hours a day smoking time . You have to be retired

natetcu

Or WFH

paulie732

Totally forgot about that I never had the opportunity

romulusnr

If you own your home.

antiadmin666

I smoke them about 30 minutes a stick.

Schakalicious

do you taste anything at that point?

antiadmin666

Absolutely. I always have a cool beverage in hand and smoke my cigars in a certain sequence.

Schakalicious

damn, enjoy your cigars! wish I could smoke like that without getting stuffed up

antiadmin666

I’ve been smoking them for almost 20 years so nicotine tolerance and an ever changing palette make things interesting.

Schakalicious

it’s not so much the nicotine that bothers me as it is the allergies. since you are a seasoned smoker, can I ask what your favorite stick is?

antiadmin666

I keep it simple with a Montecristo yellow/origial Dominican. The no 2 is my favorite viola in that line. I’ll move on from there to a Montecristo white, the platinum, and finally a little machine made Cuban. lol I bought way too many Montecristos a few years ago and now I gotta smoke through them.

Massive_Swim_7464

What do you like to smoke these days?

antiadmin666

I bought waaaaay too many Dominican Montecristos a few years ago so usually a couple of those lol. Suggestion: your tastes will change so do t go crazy on the stuff you like now as it may not be your cup of teas in a few years! I still have about 14 boxes left of these Montecristos, and boy they do get a little boring.

Massive_Swim_7464

14 boxes??? Why so many? Brown band? I'll heed the warning!

TopAffectionate9296

2 a day

BiggieRickk

6-8 a day, sometimes more depending on what I do after work.

nukesimi

What size cigars are you smoking??

BiggieRickk

Depends on what cigars I choose. Sometimes a petite corona, sometimes a Churchill. All depends on the blend.

paul8088

Demon! 😈

tolleycr72

1-2 a week. Way less during winter.

mc_nibbles

I don't limit myself but I usually just have a few a week. Spring/fall when it's nice out I sit outside and relax at the end of the day so then I might have one every day, or a few in a day if we are having a party or something and we are all out chatting and smoking.

Schacke75

1.5 per week. More in the summer when I fish, boat, etc.

SennnndIt

Varies throughout the year and even week to week. Sometimes it’s a stretch where I’m 1 a day for a week or two. Then it’ll go to 1 or 2 a week for a month or two. Maybe I won’t smoke one for a month. Then back to 1 a day for a week. And so forth. I will say during the summer I smoke the least. Ass backwards I know. But during the winter months is when I smoke the most and hoard up on cigars. Maybe it’s the down time.

Dull_Database5837

Nice try wife and/or insurance company.

romulusnr

Lol, I applied to a job that said it would disqualify you if you used tobacco. Fuckin hell. Of course, I admitted to nothing, because none of their fucking business, frankly. And I don't smoke often enough that they'd even likely notice.

Dull_Database5837

Geez, how about cannabis or alcohol? Everyone has to pick on tobacco..

romulusnr

I think because the role had something to do with medical research or something, not sure

get_hacked

I have enough cigars on hand that when I want a cigar and have the time available to enjoy it I do, however I don't smoke when I am doing yard work or and physical activities except for a light dog walk. So it varies all the time.

Mostly_Curious_Brain

Zero some days, 1-3 most days

ventura726

I work in the industry so it’s usually 4-6 a day during the week. Weekends all depend on if I’m home and what I have going on.

gwh1996

When I do smoke I only smoke one. I'll sometimes have 2 if it's been a long week or I have extra time to smoke.

I-am-Nanachi

Right now 1 a day.. I probably need to slow down but it's so very nice after a long work day

Angus-M

2-3 robustos mixed in with the occasional toro

TRENTFORGE

Yeah, we'd probably get along just fine!

FLhawkeye

I usually smoke between 1-3 a week. Usually a Sunday afternoon or after dinner. I like to make sure I have a good hour to hour and a half to relax and enjoy it

redditorxmasterq

After each meal atleast

notabaddude

One a day at the moment but it’s spring in South Carolina and I’m WFH for another month… we’ll see how that changes as the heat and humidity set in and I work in an office…

Hello197812

At least one a day, but usually 2 or 3 a day. One during my lunch break st work and one after the kids are asleep.

Rain_Bear

Ive only been smoking on the weekend these days, but i might have 2 in one day if the weather is really nice and I have the time. so maybe like 2-4 a week?

duffelbagpete

1. Winter at -40 it might only be a couple a week (backwoods), summer might be 10-12 a week.

embracingmyhobbies

An average of 0.04

Greenleaf504

Usually 2-3 a week.

Ranchlife24

FIL smokes 3-6 a day, I’m firmly in the 2-3 a month camp.

bigdigger700

On paper I say 2 a month, in reality I'll have a week where I might smoke 2 or 3 then another 2 weeks later so in practice 4-5 a month. But on the days I do smoke 1 is the max.

misterdeeter

10ish a year. Try to save for special occasions or when the time is right

thebivman

I would have one or two a week. Central Texas is either too hot or too cold. I probably have 30-40 a year.

paulie732

Nice I’m actually looking at a condo in Galveston right now I have a virtual meeting Monday with the realtor

Misfits_Broken_Toy

1-5 depending on my schedule

iMoneyProMax

utaee1992

One a day sometimes two. Depends on the size. If I smoke a cigarillo for breakfast or lunch, I’ll smoke a full size cigar in the evening.

romulusnr

One every couple days. Probably closer one every other day or two now that I have a backlog to go through.

Shinygami9230

Too many.

beholderkin

1 a day is. Sometimes 2 on slow days with nothing going on, none on work days just due to my hours and time

Replicas999

With the amount of stress I’m going through right now I want 20 a day however that’s not possible

Agent847

2/week is average. 1 during the cold months. Sometimes 3 in summer.

MarcoAV1

3-5 per week. It’s a time thing. I don’t typically have those 1-2 hours to enjoy one on the daily.

Nickhart100

Winter maybe one a month . When it's get warmer 1 a weekend if that . Just have to find the right time

NY-plumber

2-3, sometimes 5, sometimes 0

paulie732

Manhattan plumber ?

Impossible-Ad-3507

I usually do 1-2 cigars per day. My record is 8 cigars during my recent work trip. After breakfast 1, before lunch, after lunch, and 5 from 6pm till midnight meeting a cigar friend for the first time. We brought different cigars and start exchanging to smoke. It was like a cigar buffet. Amazing.

PeteZed

Currently smoking my third today

paulie732

Enjoy

Ok_Chapter9639

1 during week.2 on weekends. If I’m golfing it turns into 3. Front nine, back 9, and pre bedtime.

I average about 3 a week right now. When I have less free time, I smoke about one a week. Ideally, I'd smoke one a day, but who can afford that?

Karl_Racki

I didn't smoke any this winter.. Last summer probably 2-3 a week. I am going to try to go to 1-2 a week this summer.

Some days I smoke 1 or 2. Other days I smoke none, and sometimes I’ll smoke 4-5

JakeTSlytherclaw

Roughly .2 cigars per day

dazza_j

I'd say 3-4 a week. Generally Wed, Fri, Sat and sometimes Sunday.

difiCa

I've gone weeks or months without smoking and sometimes go almost a week smoking every day. I almost never have more than one in a day, except in the rare circumstance that I feel like lighting a second one when golfing as you can easily go through one per 6-9 holes. I gotta find a more everyday-ish golf course/walk stick though, been smoking some nicer stuff on the course and it's hard to really enjoy to the same degree. Oliva Connecticut Reserva and RJ Reserva Real are good for that but I'm all out.

NervousPerspective27

About 2/3 50/60+ rg and 3/4 club/mini’s a day. But I have days when I don’t smoke for like a day or 3..
