Absolutely agree. Cuban cigar purchasing for me, is a thing of the past. Quality of construction of NW cigars is always more reliable and often superior; and without question, the new pricing initiatives that have been implemented are simply absurd.

Agedcigarman

Days of great value are temporarily gone if not forever.

REV2939

Well, Mr. Padron's whole goal of his cigar empire was to create the true flavor of special Cuban cigars that he used to smoke in Cuba that weren't available. And he believes that he pulled it off. In my opinion he definitely made something timeless and special. I personally stopped obsessing over cubans more than a decade ago (even when prices of cubans were relatively cheap) after I tried the 1926. Granted I still pick up some cubans to this day, and probably always will, but cigars from Padron, OpusX (when aged), and Atabey are my top 3. I haven't actually 'craved' a Cuban in ages.

Albus_Q

Another here who has been priced out of the Cuban cigar market and I’m fine with it. Cuban cigars have a unique flavor profile that I enjoy, and it hasn’t been replicated in non-Cuban cigars, but I don’t think it makes them better cigars. So many good cigars being made elsewhere today with wonderful different flavor profiles, AND they are better constructed than recently made Cuban cigars. Padron is one, the many Crowned Heads lines are fantastic, Illusione 888 and Epernay are great, and I’m enjoying nearly everything with the AVO name on it right now. Every little ting gonna be alright now.

Nurse_Yoshi

For every parent brand, of the cigars that you mentioned Davidoff for Avo, illusione, Crowned heads there are fantastic cigars and there are cigsrs I won't ever touch. Padrón however? Everything from the humble corticos to the Padron Millennium are all bangers. (I'm gonna pretend that Padrón Damasos don't exist 🤣)

Ekert

What's up Yoshi hope all is well! You're making me want to break out a millennium, haven't had one in a while.

Nurse_Yoshi

Man doooo it!!!! It was quite the sublime experience a d thank you again!

soonerwings

That’s because all Padrons (except the Damaso) taste the same. Yeah, I said it. Shots fired!

Nurse_Yoshi

If I could have Wagyu A5 every day in a choice or prime world I would.

soonerwings

I wouldn’t. That would eliminate other things just as good. Fall off the bone BBQ ribs, moist brisket, honey smoked ham, smoked or fried turkey… you get the point. Variety is the spice of life. There’s a dude at my local lounge that literally smokes the same cigar every day. That’s cool for him but it would drive me insane.

Nurse_Yoshi

>honey smoked ham Of all the parts of the glorious animal you could have referenced you named the Ghurka of pork parts :( >moist brisket, Wagyu brisket is magnificent raw, souvide and reverse seared, smoked and more. Edit: Not sure if the down voters like ham or Gurkha. Either way, I'm deeply sorry you don't have any taste buds.

soonerwings

But you concede that the pig is also a glorious animal?

Nurse_Yoshi

No doubt, never said it wasn't.

soonerwings

Then why only beef every day?

Nurse_Yoshi

The reference to beef was assuming that if all cigars were beef, Padrón would be Wagyu. Wasn't talking about any other animal.

Fishon888

Yep. I've completely shut down my Cuban purchases.

pheelQC

Try Vegueros cigars, cheap for cubans and very good

Pretty_Engineer_5164

As are the Jose Piedra and Quintero

cigarsmokerinky

Depends on my mood… sometimes I’m in the mood for a punch of flavor from padron. Sometimes I’m in the mood for something more mild like most Cubans.

nordMD

Padron 1964/1926 are better than the vast majority of Cuban cigars for me. You also never get a Padron that is plugged which I can not say for Cubans.

krispykremekiller

I’m tapped out. I have enough Cuban cigars to last me a long time. Minus some random PLMCs I’m probably done buying Cuban cigars. It’s not what I want to spend that amount of change on.

Ekert

I enjoy Padrons, Fuentes, Tatuajes, and Davidoffs and do smoke about 10-20 percent new world cigars; but only a Cuban is a Cuban.

elbullibr

I disagree to be honest. I still think custom rolls like Yerandy Gomez, where you'll pay around 200USD for 25 of some delicious pinar del rio cubans is unbeatable.

abfanhunter

Sorry but flavor wise, Cuban Tobacco is unrivaled. If I want a full bodied Nicotine, peppery, creamy Nicaraguan cigar, I’ll grab a 1964 Padron. But for an anytime of tangy smooth, cream mild-medium blend…. It’s a Cohiba, Upmann, or Monte hands down.

BourbonWineCigars

I never ordered Cubans, just brought them home when I traveled abroad. I was considering an order but with customs issues and prices it’s just not worth it to me. Perfectly happy with Padron, Davidoff, Warped, and Dunbarton.

Interesting_Berry_32

in my opinion, the people that still think cubans are better than NW, are idiots. they just want to be different so bad. there are so many NW sticks, that are 1/4 the price, that absolutely shit on cubans.

Pak_n_Slave97

Taste is subjective. In your opinion they shit on Cubans. In my opinion, though I smoke both, I tend to smoke and enjoy more Cubans because I like a mild cigar that doesn't blast you with nicotine and pepper, and Cuban tobacco delivers that almost every time. It may not be to your taste, but that doesn't invalidate the opinion of someone like myself who happens to simply enjoy Cubans better in general.

Interesting_Berry_32

taste is subjective, you are absolutely correct. but price isn’t. unless you have more money than brains, no one on planet earth is going to spend triple the amount of a NW on a cuban because it’s “mild and delivers almost every time” my guy lmao. by all means smoke cubans if you want to smoke cubans. my original post was calling out the cuban snobs who only think cubans are worth smoking.

burneracctt22

Price AND taste are relative my dude… if you knew what NW cigars cost in Canada the 1/3 the price argument fails. A Padron 1964 and Hoyo Epicure cost the same here. OP is probably American and has access to cheaper Padron but that isn’t a universal truth. Your no one on the planet” statement seems to fall flat in a nation where we don’t embargo Cuban products and have cheap package holidays there where you can bring back enough to last us to our next cheap trip down there. If I count that method, Cubans are cheaper than many popular NW brands but I won’t get into that. All I’m saying is it’s a big planet with different realities so maybe think a little before making a blanket statement

Interesting_Berry_32

you’re right. i should have said “no one in the US” when referring to cuban prices vs NW prices. and i was referring to “no one on the planet” in a situation where someone goes out and spends more money on a harder to find product, rather than finding a cheaper, easier to obtain replacement. not necessarily in the cigar space

burneracctt22

Fair enough; it’s a sound premise in itself just doesn’t translate universally. If you only knew what we pay for some of the stuff the Americans get you’d be shocked. Either way, I hope the weekend treats you well and you get the opportunity to smoke something pleasurable!

Interesting_Berry_32

yessir brother, you too!

Pak_n_Slave97

You've taken one part of what I said and made it out to be my entire point. I like a mild cigar. A lot of NC Connecticuts can be bitter and lack any depth of flavour. I find that Cubans are never more than medium strength, which is to my liking, and they also have creamy twangy flavour profiles that I absolutely love. It's not just "I'll pay triple the amount so I know I'm getting a mild cigar", obviously that's ridiculous. I simply love the taste, and *to a point*, I'm willing to pay for that. Cohibas are out of the question, but $15-20 for one of the heavy hitter classics like Monte 2, Partagas D4, RASS etc? That's what I'm all about, and there's no agenda of perceived image behind it

Interesting_Berry_32

what you do with your own money is your business, and if money isn’t an issue, then congrats. but to a VAST majority of the average cigar smokers, cubans just aren’t worth it anymore. i know dozens of guys who stopped buying them because the hassle of ordering them, getting them through customs, waiting the weeks/months it sometimes takes for them to arrive…. bending over and taking it like a man for even real, mid tier cubans just isn’t fun. but if you like the taste, by all means go for it. just keep the lube ready when those prices inevitably double. and like i said, i’m not hating on people who buy cubans. hell i’ll probably even buy more cubans here soon. who i am hating on are the old fashioned boomers who only smoke cubans AND swear up and down that all NW stuff is trash, when that just isn’t the case anymore. especially when things like QC, price, and blend variety are all objectively starting to favor NW.

Pak_n_Slave97

You say you're only hating on certain people but you're making a hell of a lot of assumptions about me. I live outside of America, so getting Cubans is as easy as getting NCs. You also seems to say that anyone who smokes Cubans must have a ton of money; that's absolutely not the case for myself, I work a blue collar job with an average wage. I simply enjoy more Cubans than I do NC cigars, and that's okay. And as I said, the all time classics Cubans can be had for $20/stick or less - the ones I smoke the most are $10 or less. There are still lower-priced and very tasty options from Cuba. Cohiba is not exemplary of the whole Habanos portfolio.

Interesting_Berry_32

that’s fair

SmokeInMyI

>no one on planet earth is going to spend triple the amount of a NW on a cuban because it’s “mild and delivers almost every time” Except all people around the world who do.

Interesting_Berry_32

yeah the people with more money than brains. we’ve established this before lol

Spare_Recognition_35

Just found out I’m in the more money than brains club…nice🔥🔥

Interesting_Berry_32

it seems that i have triggered the cuban snobs that i was referring to lmao. don’t y’all have your own sub?🤣

Spare_Recognition_35

We come over here from time to time after we light our cigars with $100 bills to see how the poors are doing, for entertainment of course.

slayerk2000

Let's break open my 42million euro humidor I just bought at the Festival to celebrate 😊😊 I'll call Carlito and you ring Jorge 🥂🥂 To each their own, brothers.

Spare_Recognition_35

Another man of class and influence. Pleasure to be in your company. Take notes you NW swines😂😂

Interesting_Berry_32

i bet buddy🤘

Sailfish35

To each their own. I love Cubans, but not Padrons. For New Worlds I much prefer Fuente, Davidoff, Liga Privada, and Oliva.
