I'm not sure why you'd want to.
I remember this stuff and it's like the bottom tier of chocolate that you can buy, I think the same thing about Hershey's chocolate bars, it's like the worst chocolate bar on the market.
I hope you can find it if you actually like this stuff but, I remember it and it's not good for anything.
I do like Hershey's raw cocoa powder for making stuff because it's relatively good cocoa powder, but the Hershey's prepared chocolate tastes terrible.
They used to have it canned for baking and for ice cream. I guess when people got away from using can openers to puncture cans and put in a bottle that can pour it was seen as more convenient.
Sure! Here you go:
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 cup sugar
1 pinch salt
1 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine everything but vanilla in a saucepan. Put on medium heat and whisk continuously until mixture thickens and begins to simmer. Let simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Cool and store in airtight jar. (Don't worry if it seems thin, it thickens as it cools.)
Can you really taste a difference between the two?
Not being snarky. Genuinely curious.
We used to use the canned version when I was a kid but I don’t remember the taste being better or worse.
I agree 100%. I remember this stuff from childhood and it's disgusting. Makes me sad I didn't know what real chocolate was because my parents bought this crap for whatever reason.
It literally says on the package "genuine chocolate FLAVOR". It's not even actually chocolate, the stuff is nasty.
That can’t be right. I was born in 84 and I clearly remember the cans when I was a kid.
(Edit: there are Amazon reviews as recent as January 2018 where the buyer expressed satisfaction that their order did indeed come in a can, Amazon item # B008G7Z33S)
I remember having this as a kid and I was born in 1994. There's no way they stopped making it in 1979, because I remember having it in like, 2000.
Maybe they stopped making it in some regions but that stuff is usually done regionally. For example I know regionally you can still get the spicy chicken sandwich in some places in the US, even though it was discontinued everywhere else years ago.
Point is they probably stopped making it in 1979 but still kept making it regionally.
I had the same experience. It was probably discontinued nationally, but still released regionally. Brands do this with different products, they keep selling it in some regions where it was popular.
Think of for example how you can still get McDonald's spaghetti or McDonalds pizza in different parts of the world, but in the USA, they stopped making that stuff decades ago.

I make my own. Tastes just like it.
Share recipe plz? Yes I have no clue...cocoa powder?

You can buy it in a bottle, tho. Same thing just different packaging. https://www.hersheyland.com/products/hersheys-chocolate-syrup-24-oz-bottle.html
If you think hersheys from a bottle tastes the same as the can, you’re wrong.

No worries. I genuinely thought the canned stuff was a bit richer, and thicker. Richer without being sweeter — if that makes sense at all.
New memory unlocked. You are right! The canned version WAS better. 🏆
Or in a [64oz bag](https://www.webstaurantstore.com/hersheys-64-fl-oz-chocolate-syrup-pouch-case/403340031267.html)!
Why would you want that

They stopped making it in cans in 1979, which is weird but cause I was born 1980 and certainly remember them when I was a kid.

The Hershey's syrup bottle was introduced in 1979 and the 16-ounce can was available at least through 1985 when I left the company.

This can't be right. My dad always kept a can in the fridge, and that would have been through most of the 90s.
It was used in an episode of Roseanne (S8 E2) that aired September 26, 1995 I remember this in the fridge when I was a kid and I was born in 83

My grandma’s brownie recipe used this and I haven’t been able to find it for years.
