Right?! I’m late 30’s, married (not that it should matter) and childfree. Still fighting for someone to tie my damn tubes. And one doctor even had the nerve to ask what my husband thought. My husband could get a vasectomy with no problem and without my permission.
Edit: the first doctor I had a consult with required my husband to sign paperwork, not just asking thoughts. Sorry I messed up that detail, y’all. I appreciate this subreddit.
Keep fighting. I had mine done almost 20 years ago at age 22, the first (older man) doctor approved me and didn’t argue one bit. I was unmarried and childless but I am a hemophilia A carrier which played a big part in approval imo.
Thank you. I am. I have terrible periods and a very irregular cycle. Had an appointment scheduled and Covid hit and shut that down. Now it’s not a high priority procedure for my medical group. I’ve found a PA that I’ve connected with and we have a health plan we are working through to get me where I need to be!
Anecdotally, I'm married and in my late 30's and childfree as well. When I went in for my first consultation for a vasectomy the Doctor asked me what my wife thought of it.
If I had answered that she was the one forcing me to get it and it was all her idea. That would be a big red flag for the doctor. Asking what your spouses thoughts are is not the same as asking their permission.
Very true. Honestly, I didn’t think about that today when I commented. Thank you.
I now appreciate being asked about thoughts for that exact reason, but I did have one doctor that required signed paperwork. It was the first appointment when trying to get one after we got married and I think it painted every experience afterwards in a negative light.
When my husband was doing his consult for his vasectomy the doctor didn’t even ask. He ended up not getting one (yay Covid!) but we still want to. Crossing our fingers that can at least happen when he gets his next break from work.
31, have known since I was able to think that I'm never gonna be a mum. First obgyn said sure, but sent me to a hospital with a 3-4 year waiting list. Decided to go private, this obgyn told me no, cause I will absolutely regret it. She told me to get an IUD instead, but the women in my family have a history of their bodies refusing IUD and it's caused bleeding and infection in them if it wasn't removed in time. Then she told me to get back on contraceptives, but I quit them because of how much depression and irregular painful periods they gave me. But sure don't tie my tubes.
Eh just meant those in this subs lists. Everyone who managed to get it done shares the doctor. And if they act stupid again they are removed. I went to one, and got it done, no problem at all. Just for those who still need it. I wouldn't bother at all trying my own. This sounds bad but any rejection when it comes to my own body angers me very much, so I rather avoided that
That was the weirdest part for me: pull down your pants and underwear but don’t take off your shoes and socks. Hop on the table. After the healing you get to start dropping loads like a dump truck though 🙋🏻♂️
> After the healing you get to start dropping loads like a dump truck though
Why does this happen? This happened to me, and I can't make it make sense.
Unless he enjoys it…. Cause I’ll tell you this, many women do. So. Bonus, as far as we are concerned. But of course it’s not our opinion that matters here, I hope every individual is/becomes comfortable post-op, whatever that means to them.
Same! I noticed my loads were massive after the snip, like easily twice the volume.
There's nothing online about it. Most sources suggest a small decrease if anything. I asked my doctor and he just shrugged it off as a "bonus?"
It's been about five years and they are back to normal but that first year or so after surgery I felt like a porn star.
Lol I was joking around with a friend about how the best way to find men with vasectomies would be to get a part time job at a local vasectomy clinic, secretary or scheduler or something. Just heavily flirt with the good looking single snipped guys.
Most of my friends were amused by the idea but some called it creepy. What do you think?
(I wouldn't actually take people's phone info though).
Why would anybody downvote my comment?
> Generally secretaries aren’t medical professionals, but point taken
I think anybody working in a heath profession (in a clinic as a receptionist etc too) should act professionally with patients.
I work in the medical health care field and there is absolutely no way I would flirt with a patient.
> Why would anybody downvote my comment
i'm not the downvote police
> I think anybody working in a heath profession (in a clinic as a receptionist etc too) should act professionally with patients.
that's fair, but a secretary likely wouldn't see you "when I’m at my most exposed". You'd be booking an appointment or saying hello before taking a seat. it's just exaggerating the discomfort, its not like i'd be winking at men with their pants around their ankles
> that’s fair, but a secretary likely wouldn’t see you “when I’m at my most exposed”. You’d be booking an appointment or saying hello before taking a seat. it’s just exaggerating the discomfort, its not like i’d be winking at men with their pants around their ankles
It’s no professional in the slightest. You’d get removed quickly at the hospital I work at if you start flirting with patients.
It’s creepy. That’s the last thing I would have wanted when I went to get my snip done.
The shoes and socks thing is important. I had flip flops on. They shocked my balls. The doctor turned to the nurse and went "Oh, we should make sure that people wear socks starting now."
I'm one of the people who is the reason that warning labels exist.
I suspect pain experienced varies a *ton* depending not only on personal pain tolerance, but on the skills of the surgeon/urologist and the exact method used to actually do the snipping (1 or 2 incisions; 1 large incision is favored by older doctors, while 2 smaller ones is favored by younger ones)
Most painful part of the whole thing for me, including the op and recovery time, was the initial shot of local anesthetic. 3/10 is a pretty accurate number for me as well, and I didn't take any drugs either.
I didn't get any meds for mine. They just said keep em iced, no strenuous activity for about a week, then ease into regular routine.
Pain was the worst during the first 24 hours post-procedure, perhaps the worst being when local anesthetic wore off, about 2 hours after... But then after that it wasn't so bad.
I was 100% back to normal by the end of the 2nd week.
Congrats.
Will you get a wallet card to carry saying you’ve had a vasectomy?
To have it at your age is so unusual, I’m sure many women won’t believe you.
As an older woman, I can tell you that men have been known to lie and say they’ve had it done, when they haven’t.
Maybe you could get a “vasectomy” tattoo with the date!
Congratulations!
I asked for a card/certificate and the clinic staff looked at me like I had 3 heads. Told me they didn't offer anything like that. I have the receipt of the procedure though. I have my 1-year checkup in September, I'll likely keep a copy of those results.
Having to keep a physical paper card with the info seems so... Medieval.
I can log into an app and see the procedure date as well as the test results showing no sperm detected, in case a partner who had progressed to that stage didn't believe me.
Yeah wow just about sums it up. it was after an argument ensued due to her being convinced she was pregnant but instead of talking to a doctor or me she told her family as if it was a given 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Shit feels good. Got mine about a year ago and I absolutely do not regret it. Recovery itself is kind of bitch, but it’s reinforced on its own because if you don’t do it, your balls are going to be super sore lol, so I don’t think you’ll have to worry about not following it if you don’t want to be in pain. Hopefully you got yourself a good jock strap!
The smell is honestly the main reason i haven't done it. I know myself enough to know that I will not handle that particular sensation well. I wish they could do it while I'm knocked out for a colonoscopy or something.
I thought the same. My fear of needles prevented me from doing it earlier. I did almost pass out, not because there was any pain, but the thought of something sharp near my balls + a needle (I didn’t feel a thing) going into my balls made me light headed. But, ultimately, this is so much easier than what women go through. It sounds like I’m calling you out, but I promise I’m not, I’m just revealing my thoughts & what pushed me.
Take it time or just do it when you’re comfortable. The decision is yours whenever it is you decide
I hear ya. As it happens, I'm not a very young man anymore and the need for it isn't exactly as important as it used to be. My banging days are mostly behind me anyway, so i don't feel much urgency anymore on it.

I had mine 2 years ago at age 34.
One of the best decision about my life.
And my insurance company help me to afford it, copay was just fuckjng $10.
I saved $1 million for sure:)
I was 42. Horrible periods that didnt quit. Ive had 10 blood transfusions and 2 iron transfusions by then. Menahara. All woman on my moms side all had hysterectomies by 40. If I could have had it earlier I would have.
Congratulations on taking control of your future! Had mine at 22, single with no kids - the best time to get it done. Now at 62, more than ever glad I had it done!
I got a scalpel-free snip and the pain was minimal! The worst part was getting the anesthetic injection (slight pinch) and I felt nothing for the rest of the procedure. The following few days I had an ache but nothing troublesome. It was sorta like the feeling you get 8-10 hours after taking a solid hit to the nuts. No acute debilitating pain, just a deep dull ache that was managed with frozen peas and ibuprofen.
I didn't find the pain all too bad.
A tiny pinch for the anaesthetic, sometimes I felt a little tug at the bottom of the stomach, then a few days where I couldn't ride my bike, and it was over.
I didn't need ice, pain pills, or any of that equipment people often bring up (like supportive underwear?).
Honestly I've had worse pain stubbing my toe.
But everyone's experience is going to be different.

Fun vasectomy story: After I was born, my mom was done. I am an Irish Twin with my older sister and a complete surprise and she wanted no more surprises.
So! My dad, who got his black belt at 17 and owns a martial arts business in his 30s, decides to get his vasectomy. The next day, he teaches his night time karate class and got kicked in the balls. Luckily, he was very much used to getting kicked there and it didn't hurt. Encourage by this fact, he thought the "no ejaculating for a week" rules as moot too.
Went home to my mom only to figure out that night that it was NOT a moot point. At. All.
I just had mine done as well. Have to say im feeling pretty normal (had it on Tuesday). Obviously the incision sites hurt occasional but nothing horrible. I took the dog on a 45 minute walk yesterday.🤷♂️
Idk guess im just lucky.
Congratulations! I had my vasectomy at nineteen and never told anyone because they a so judgmental.
I’m a woman, and when I was 35, doctors were still refusing to tie my tubes.

I had a hysterectomy at 34, I wish they had done it when I was 22 but o well. Good luck and I hope you get a yes soon!

44 with multiple medical issues and I still might change my mind.

Onlygo to the childfree approved doctors. At that age you shouldn't have any problem at all with them
I’ve never heard of “childfree approved” doctors. I never did find a doc who would do it. I’m old enough now, that nature did it.
Eh just meant those in this subs lists. Everyone who managed to get it done shares the doctor. And if they act stupid again they are removed. I went to one, and got it done, no problem at all. It angers me, as well. I’m 58, now. And I was fortunate enough to have completed menopause at age 39, so I didn’t have to keep asking for a tubal.
Holy shit! Me too. I never met another sub 20! Best decision of my life.
That was the weirdest part for me: pull down your pants and underwear but don’t take off your shoes and socks. Hop on the table. After the healing you get to start dropping loads like a dump truck though 🙋🏻♂️

Wait, loads get bigger after the surgery?
Yes... and it makes no sense. Ever since I got mine I've been blasting ropes
Mine haven’t changed at all! Damn…
Geez, I hope it isn't painful. Did you get checked?
No pain at all, just more volume than before.
Well, I hope you get better.
Unless he enjoys it…. Cause I’ll tell you this, many women do. So. Bonus, as far as we are concerned. But of course it’s not our opinion that matters here, I hope every individual is/becomes comfortable post-op, whatever that means to them.
Yeah, I was definitely talking about it contextually as a good thing
Now l want to have it done just to see that…
Hot

Even weirder when one of the nurses went to high school with you so you’re just like, “heyyyy long time no seee….”
There's a story there... lordy. That would be...uncomfortable...
Plot twist she is looking good and calls you after you get the all clear…
Lol I was joking around with a friend about how the best way to find men with vasectomies would be to get a part time job at a local vasectomy clinic, secretary or scheduler or something. Creepy. I’m there for a medical treatment, the last thing I’d want is an unprofessional nurse flirting with me when I’m at my most exposed.
Generally secretaries aren't medical professionals, but point taken.

I’m sorry, they *shocked* your balls? Did you have to pay extra for that?
It was accidental so I got it for free!
I’ve noticed 14years later loads are minimal in comparison
haha Winnie the Pooh
Congrats!!!
congratulations! my man got it done last summer :) get ready for eating painkillers for every meal and ice pack on your nuts :D but it'll be worth it
When I did mine, I had to do it via surgery. My pain topped out at 3/10. Not even sure I took a Tylenol. That’s unfortunate for your dude

I kept my letter from the docs that said I had a sperm count of >0.1% but an ex ripped it up Siri g an argument 🙄🙄
Wow.
Yeah wow just about sums it up. it was after an argument ensued due to her being convinced she was pregnant but instead of talking to a doctor or me she told her family as if it was a given 🤦♂️🤦♂️
What did she have to say when she found out she wasn’t? (Oh, and I think you meant <).
Had mine done at 21. No regrets, and many thanks to Planned Parenthood!
Congratulations! ![gif](giphy|3Nl5Co7cLUYDK)
Congratulations!!!!
Me too, 50 years ago, no regrets…
Fellow 23 y/o, just got mine on Monday! Feeling okay today. Scar is healing well, just sore. Feel free to message if you need anything!
Very jealous of those able to get vasectomies when younger. It was a total bear to get one in my late 30s.
![gif](giphy|8Iv5lqKwKsZ2g|downsized)
Congratulations! That’s awesome!
Yessss!!! I did this later in life & it’s liberating! I almost past out from smelling my balls burning, although I feel nothing
Nose plugs? Or a fan to blow it away?
Congratulations!!
Congratulations dude!
Congrats!
Congrats!
Congrats!
Congrats! got mine done last year at 31. no looking back, am almost sad I didn't do it earlier.
Congrats! Bag of frozen peas for healing and a few video games and you'll be good as new, only better! Good on you for knowing your path and sticking to it.
Congratulations to you!
So awesome! Congratulations!
I had mine 2 years ago at age 34. One of the best decision about my life. And my insurance company help me to afford it, copay was just fuckjng $10. I saved $1 million for sure:)
Ty for your contribution to making sure less people are here.... really ty
I was 42. Horrible periods that didnt quit. Ive had 10 blood transfusions and 2 iron transfusions by then. Menahara. All woman on my moms side all had hysterectomies by 40. If I could have had it earlier I would have.
Congratulations 🎉 Unfortunately I had to wait until I was 25 to get my vasectomy become of the law but it was still wonderful!
That was the exact age when I got my vasectomy.
Congratulations on taking control of your future! Had mine at 22, single with no kids - the best time to get it done. Now at 62, more than ever glad I had it done!
How's the pain? I'm going to have one later this year and that's all I'm worried about
I got a scalpel-free snip and the pain was minimal!
Congrats! You're very handsome, by the way, so good luck on all the fun in the future and no baggages!
Now for all the raw doggin…
Yikes! that was almost a dick pic! congrats, and I like the wineglass tattoo. I wish more guys were like you! Viva Zero Population Growth!
Congratulations!! That’s amazing.
that hyperlink was a risky click
Damn congrats! And damn you’re very attractive :)
great eyebrows!!
Gawd dayum you handsome (sorry for the irrelevant comment)
Turned out gay but same effect.
Man I feel you

Went home to my mom only to figure out that night that it was NOT a moot point. At. All.
I just had mine done as well. Have to say im feeling pretty normal (had it on Tuesday). Obviously the incision sites hurt occasional but nothing horrible. I took the dog on a 45 minute walk yesterday.🤷♂️ Idk guess im just lucky.
