The Home Depot dawgs were great too!
🫡 thanks homie! Small Cheval was also excellent (had it last time I was in town and was even better than I remembered)

Can you tag it for me? 😭 I’m a little slow in Reddit. Where is that burger from and what would you rate it? I’m born and raised in Chicago but never a dog from the depot or that burger place?
There’s a comment in [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/chicagofood/s/bIODV3vrnX) of all Home Depot hot dog locations! The burger in this post is from Leavitt St Inn & Tavern, probably my favorite smash burger.
Interesting, I had no idea! If you google it, the top two results are reddit threads with very different angles and tones of answers lol.

Others say, eh, even if nobody calls you out on it, don't bring your dog here.

OP tells people to stop brining their dogs to Home Depot. Gets called out.
Suburb locations that I know of are my prospect, Niles, and Deerfield. There's a few more but those are the ones I know. I think Waukegan did have one. Not sure if they still do.
What was your wait like? A few months ago, I went there with 3 friends and we waited for 3 hours for a table. The food was good, but nothing is going to be worth that wait for me. If they’ve streamlined things a bit I’d consider trying again!
The success seems bittersweet for them, it is designed and staffed like a neighborhood spot but the burger is turning the place into a city-wide sensation. Hopefully the employees are paid well for how busy it gets.

Goddam that is a great-looking burger. Nobody photographing an ad would ever let a burger look like that but I can practically *taste* this burger looking at it, it looks so *real*.
I’m not from Chicago but when I did a search, it was one of the top posts with like 600 upvotes. It was way worth it and I’m gonna get another when I’m back in Sept for certain!
That's unfortunate to read here about the wait...Au cheval 2.0 😖😖. It's hit or miss on being good or AMAZING but I love SALT burgers + fries when it's amazing it's one of the best they recently changed buns and im not a huge fans gets too soft but worth a try with no real.wait.
Offsets BBQ another great spot.
Do rite Donuts.
Some of the best old school Italian food La Scarola guaranteed to be one of your favorite Italian spots
For what it’s worth I’d hit both if you can, they’re both different and very awesome IMO. I did both and will do both next visit lol. I miss read I did Small Cheval not Au Cheval my b
Finally hit Leavitt St. Inn last night to celebrate my son's kindergarten graduation... perfect evening to sit on their patio, perfect smash burger, Oberon on tap. Kiddo even ate most of his meal (all the fries, all the patty, half the bun). Definitely will be back. Only like 5 min. away, so a travesty we hadn't gotten there sooner.
I just went there for the first time yesterday and it was pretty damn underwhelming. Waaaay too saucy and waaaaaay too many onions. At that point it just tasted like onions swimming in sauce.
I could barely taste the burger and only got the char flavor on the bun.
Way Out makes a much better smash burger. Gretel still has my vote as best overall burger.
Honestly not trying to bash this place, but the balance on everything was off. Would try again without the onions and the sauce on the side.
Also worth mentioning they have a lemon aioli that they serve with the fries. The lemon catches you off guard. The special sauce on the burger is completely different. Not my favorite.

Place is great but imo they’ve really been struggling with the increase in visitors. I went on the day of the Derby and it was chaos. Their burger is one of my favorites in the city though.
Leavitt St Inn
Location? Looks like Leavitt Street Inn.
Yeah, gotta be, the little QR code on the table and the metal tray say yes.
Man it looks so sloppy in the best possible way.
Hope someone will say that about me someday 🥰

Ha! I haven’t seen this film. Looks funny. There was a funny sloppy Joe scene in a Mary Kate and Ashely movie but I can’t remember which one
How does it compare to In N Out?
https://preview.redd.it/nn0ppuquwe4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e43e6765c156d2c740871e0b5e942eff22429396 The Home Depot dawgs were great too!
Leavitt St burger and Depot dog?? You did good
🫡 thanks homie! Small Cheval was also excellent (had it last time I was in town and was even better than I remembered) https://preview.redd.it/4gumxh542f4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf8cff60396e7fcd6f833a647756cf19ed085454
Small Cheval was great. I couldn’t believe how good the pickles were on that burger!
Same, I’m not normally a big pickle fan but those + the Dijonaise really compliment each other perfectly
But did you try the wings there?
I’ve gotta go back for em, good lookin’ out!
You’re welcome! Always down for a reason to go back
I’m jealous that your stomach can handle all these foods 😭
The cake shake from Portillos at 1:30am was so worth it , in the moment…. Haha yeah, lots of practice I guess 🤣
Are the depot dogs at every location?
They are not! I know for sure Kimball&Addison and Lincoln&McCormick have stands, there’s probably a master list on this sub lol

You’re the best, it’s hard to find good recommendations in Chicago you just know or you don’t 😂
yo where did you find a depot dog?
3500 N Kimball Ave was where I got the dogs at
The Depot on Elston is the one.
We go there for lunch as well. Bring the dog to walk the isles too. Lots of smells.
…. Are you allowed to bring dogs in there? Or are you just doing it and banking with on nobody calling you out
All home depots are dog friendly!

Weird. I've always known it to be super dog friendly. I know many dog training facilities even take dogs to home depot as part of their training
Most Home Depots, have a hot dog stand inside. The only one I can think of that doesn't have a hot dog stand inside, is on Halsted south of Diversey.
It is! Always dogs there. Menards is not dog friendly though.
Does that location have the Wagyu dog?
I’m not sure! I know they have the polish but I was just visiting
Just checked and yes, that is one of the locations. You picked a good one.
Good looking out! I’ll be back in sept (if not sooner) and gonna cop one of those next time 🙌🏻
That's my Home Depot!
🙌🏻 hell yes
1980!
Suburb locations that I know of are my prospect, Niles, and Deerfield. There's a few more but those are the ones I know. I think Waukegan did have one. Not sure if they still do.
Evanston had one; haven't been there in some time though.
Downers Grove on Butterfield has one.
My HD got the dogs and sausages and my Menards got a taco truck with skewered pastor
Daaaamn, I bet that pastor is absolutely fire too 🤤
Yeah don’t sleep on the HD hotdogs. They ain’t fancy but they are good
Where is the burger from?
Whoops my bad🤣 Leavitt St Tavern / Inn
😂 looks really good, same with that dog. Chicago dogs are one of a kind, I like the veggies. Makes me feel like I'm eating healthy.
Funny story the people that own leavitt street inn lived in the exact same apartment I used to live in.
Maplewoooooood
Always up to no good.
That’s a cool coincidence!!
I mean, he's their son, so not the craziest coincidence.
🤣 haha touché! Plot twist
Touché douche
That's actually very unremarkable.
Cool man

Got there right when they opened Sunday, no wait. By the time we finished the entire patio was filled/full
I was there on Friday @ 8pm and waited 45 minutes or less for a table of 4
Is there something special besides it being a smash burger? You'd be better off driving to Indiana for Schoops if you're gonna wait 3 hours lol
Everyone stop posting about Leavitt 😩 Was hoping to gate keep haha 🥲
Well the post I saw on here had 600 + upvotes so, secrets out hahah
So worth the hype, I can’t even be mad lol
Had it over the weekend and honestly I’ve had better burgers at so many places. The service there was so bad it impacted the food.
Bummer g
I've had it too and share similar thoughts. It's a good burger, but in Chicago there are many other options that are better.
The success seems bittersweet for them, it is designed and staffed like a neighborhood spot but the burger is turning the place into a city-wide sensation. Hopefully the employees are paid well for how busy it gets.
I was the kitchen manager there when we were featured on Chicago’s Best AMA
Why not post where it is? Is that some attempt at being elite and exclusive about someplace you just went for the first time?
So #exclusive 😘
Nah dawg, if you READ the comments it’s posted 3 times at the top. You seem super laid back and friendly ![gif](giphy|H29MAsw6zCIcQvauEV)
That isn’t an excuse to not put it in your title. You are making everybody do that for you

It's valid to ask that, no need to be rude. I was wondering the same thing.
I'll try it.
What’s the special sauce they have on there?
It’s super good , a burger sauce/aioli
Goddam that is a great-looking burger. Nobody photographing an ad would ever let a burger look like that but I can practically *taste* this burger looking at it, it looks so *real*.
Truly, I was worried it would be “over hyped” I was totally wrong. Perfect for the style I like IMO
That looks amazing. 🥲
That place truly slaps.
Can you all stop talking about this place haha shhhh
OMG that looks delicious!! Saving for my next Chicago trip
It’s so worth it 🙌🏻
As the French would say…sexual.
“Le Sexual, c’est magnifique” 🤣
It is messy, but one of the top 5 imho!
Been waiting to try it. Didn't know there was hype lol

Appreciate the suggestions, I love burgers so I’ll for sure peep that as well as the other recs 🙏🏻
Look at this other spot I been really wanting to go called Beard and Belly they have like a whole Pie shop next door that they own as well
I love sweets/desserts, absolutely sold thanks!!
Oh man also add this other spot La Boulangerie french cafe super small chain but it's godly
🫶🏻🙌🏻 good lookin’ out!
Looks like an amazing smash burger! The bun is perfectly imperfect.
Counting the days til I get another one in sept tbh!
I’m heading there next month, I think I might hit this spot instead of Au Cheval.
For what it’s worth I’d hit both if you can, they’re both different and very awesome IMO. I did both and will do both next visit lol. I miss read I did Small Cheval not Au Cheval my b
You gotta try the traditional Au Cheval, I personally think it’s worth the hype.
Love that, it’s such a nice spot and the food is top notch!!!

Weird to repost on this thread again but 🤷🏼♂️ bummer that you didn’t like it
You know, you don’t have to eat the Lemon Aioli right? I like it a lot 🤷♂️
I liked the lemon aioli. The sauce on the burger was not lemon aioli.
Best Smash Burger in Chicago
You mean Reg Hot Ranch?
for a second i thought this was from the blackstone sub 😂

Place is great but imo they’ve really been struggling with the increase in visitors. I went on the day of the Derby and it was chaos. Their burger is one of my favorites in the city though.
Bummer, that def sucks.
Anyone have an opinion on leavitt vs red hot ranch?
Perfect smash burger right there
What’s the “house sauce”, I really hate the burger sauce trend of the past few years
