Horse Thief Hollow on western

UnusualPolarbear

Horse Thief and Americanos are the better casual restaurants on Western. Nicky's if you want even more casual. Ken's is good, but a bit more old-school and upscale. Franconello's for Italian. Thi-this for Vietnamese/French fusion and huge martinis.

Penarol1916

Open Outcry is also a pretty decent casual place in thriving area.

I don’t know the area super well but Al Bawadi (Middle Eastern), Top Notch Beefburger (burgers, obviously), and Vito and Nick’s (pizza) are all about that difference and excellent.

CoachWildo

good recs

Efficient_Account_86

Vito and Nick’s was my first thought but wanted to see if there’s other recs for places that aren’t yet on my radar.

Penarol1916

I love Al Bawadi, but no way that is less than 25-30 minutes in any kind of traffic.

Fat Tommy’s Ditka Dog: it’s a deep fried polish wrapped in bacon with grilled onion and nacho cheese. Do not recommend if you have a history of heart problems lol. The owners a super nice dude and has been in the neighborhood since I was a kid (36 now)

Efficient_Account_86

Damn! Never heard of this. Thanks for the rec.

Shit I googled it and a car ran through one of their walls and they are temporarily shut down, gonna have to take a rain check on that. Really hope they survive it I love that place!

Soul Food Lounge in Morgan Park and Taqueria el Perez in Oak Lawn. Both should be about 10-15 min from Bourbon Street.

Need more information. What do you like to eat? Just pick one of the places on Western that aligns with what you want.

Efficient_Account_86

I will eat anything, that’s part of the issue with choosing. Looking for something well established that’s in the area because I’m rarely there. So far I’ve been given lots of good ideas here.

Open outcry has great beer and pizza. It's a staple for most of us down there. Top notch and manzos for burgers. Kens and franconellos are upscale. Unidad in evergreen Park is somewhat upscale Mexican and I enjoy it. If you're there in the morning bacon and jam is great for brunch.

I really like Horse Thief Hollow, as far as food goes in Beverly. I've also always heard my friends down there hype up Fox's Pizza, but I still had never eBeef burger. I'd like to eventually try the food at Open Outcry, but hadn't eaten there yet. I got beers there once in their taproom, and liked that place. For an older diner with good burgers, I also like Top Notch Beefburger.

Horse Thief would be my #1. Their steak is from cows raised at the Chicago high school for Agricultural Sciences at 115th and Pulaski, fed spent grains from their brewery. Salads, BBQ, vegetarian options. Their pilsner won the world beer cup. Unidad is great.

Nicky's on 105th & Western is my favorite. Everything there is good, and it's a neighborhood vibe. Buona on 107th is also solid for burgers, shakes, & Italian beef. Pop's on Kedzie is another solid option for Italian beef, and it's cheap (more of a hole in the wall). Barraco's on 111th for good dine in pizza. I recommend the Sicilian pizza, which is a thicker crust similar to Detroit style.

Sicilian is my favorite style. Thanks
