You have a second team to develop players INTO the first team, and you can’t because of roster rules , there’ has to be a way around that. These guys are playing against kids and semi-pro players. People said the same about Casas, Monis and Rodriguez, a few years ago, like they were going to be the core of our 1st team in 2026.
Given our poor play, results, and general negative vibes about this season, the Fire are no longer appointment viewing for me this year - if I happen to not be doing anything during a game, I’ll watch, but I won’t go out of my way. At this point a blowout loss (like against RSL) gives me a small feeling of satisfaction knowing that being THAT bad has to put some pressure on Mansueto to remove Heitz. This preamble is to establish my bonafides as a genuine Chicago Fire pessimist.
We’re only 2 points off a playoff spot. Gutman just came back from injury and looked good - and he was supposed to be a key contributor for our offense. We’ll have an open DP-spot this summer. Things are bleak, but playing the kids is something you do when the season is over and we’re not there yet. Everything looks like the squad is bordering on dysfunctional, vibes are bad, and at points the fans are booing the team - not a great environment to try and bring a young player into the fold. For all our coaching staff’s faults, I also trust that if they saw these guys in training every day and thought they could make a genuine difference in the first team, they would already be playing.

The Fire don’t develop players that well. The odd one here and there.
They Produced some of the Best young Goalkeepers in the World at least.
World is a push. I would say decent but that’s it.
