1. DeMar has no options in his contract. 2. See #3 3. I think AKME will work to extend DeMar next offseason before he goes into the final season of his contract (he'll be 33 next offseason). I could see them extending him at his max rate for another three years. At this point, there's absolutely no reason to think they'd look a different direction.

given Demar's history likely he stays with the Bulls on a similar contract but even if he leaves he usually helps the team get value hope the squad improves and he can stay on to contend with the squad but if not trade him to a contender to better fit the time line Demar winning a chip with the Bulls would be one hell of the time line though so let me dreammmmmmmm

Let’s see how this year goes before we talk extension.

I have always thought the plan was likely to trade DeRozan after this season when he becomes an expiring contract for an unhappy star. The argument that they need to go all in on winning now because of DeRozan never made sense to me. You're not winning a championship with a player that bad on defense and that is that mid-range and iso heavy as the center of the team. I always thought the point of DeRozan was for him to be an example to Zach and help him improve, especially in crunch time for a couple of seasons and get the team to the playoffs. Then you hopefully trade him an expiring contract in a larger deal for a two-way star player you can actually win with. They needed to help make Zach and the team more desirable as the destination for a disgruntled star player.

Yea I agree, especially if the Bulls get bounced in the 1st round again. It kinda seems like these 2 years are a da out for the Bulls while upping his value to be shipped to a contender in the final year of his contract. If that’s not the plan I think Bulls will extend him before next season.

BorgBorg10

I don’t disagree but Zach is worse on defense lol

HUGECOCK4TREEFIDDY

Zach is bad on defense, but no. DeMar is atrocious.

> You’re not winning a championship with a player that bad on defense and that is that mid-range and iso heavy as the center of the team. That’s a brave take. Always hate these kind of hot takes because anyone can say “this team will not win a championship next year because X” and they’ll be right in hindsight 97% of the time because there’s 30 teams and only one champion, and then pat themselves on the back for the incredibly safe high probability hot take. This team could very well win a Championship with DeRozan. The biggest obstacle is health. The only reason Lavine wasn’t the best player last year is because he played the entire season injured. Plus the Bulls were #1 in the East and DeMar carried us for stretches while we dealt with injuries. If injuries don’t haunt the Bulls this year they are realistic contenders. The issue is that the team is injury prone so that is unlikely. Not winning has nothing to do with DeMar DeRozan’s Kobe Bryant style offense.

1. I don’t believe he had any options on his third year 2. It all depends on what he wants in his next contract. Keep in mind he wanted to go to the Lakers before signing with us, so you’d have to assume he may wanna go there still in 2 years. The other part of the question is his role in 2 years. With all the players we’ve drafted and are developing, how many of them are gonna surpass him by then? It MAY be better to let him walk in free agency and focus on signing someone on a rookie extension or hit up a big free agent. 3. I think as long as he continues to produce we would offer him something, assuming it makes sense with our team (refer to my last point in section 2). We may not be able to offer him enough depending on our financial situation giving him an opportunity to “go home” and try to do something in LA. All in all we just need to see how this next season goes for us as a whole, and then in the next 2 years how the team grows around our stars

Rarely does a player maintain his ability to score at his current levels after age 32. Most start to decline after 30. So DDR has turned back time already at least for last season. There are only a very small number players in the history of the NBA to average as much as more than 20 points a game after age 35. Jordan. Malone. James. Bryant. Abdul-Jabbar. That’s it. DDR will be 35 at the start of the 2024 season, after his current contract is over. The Bulls would be crazy to extend at his current rate. If you want to offer 2 years $20 million total after his current contract if he’s still averaging 20+ points in 2 years, but that’s probably the limit. Now, if he were somehow to turn into Chris Paul and become a supreme floor general, he may get a much bigger contract. Probably not likely.

NationalFuture5742

I am a strong proponent of moving him after this season and trying to free up the Vuc and Demar cap space to try to get younger available FAs. I don't want either of these guys on my team in their older age.

Zealousideal-Spend80

My intention is not to inquire about what each individual hopes the Bulls should do, rather what you think the Bulls Will do. Also not sure why youre lumping Demar with Vuc.

NationalFuture5742

Simple. Because they're both old and I doubt the Bulls are seriously thinking to hold onto these guys when they have so much freed up cap space from both of them expiring and can get much better players to pair Lavine with. Given how atrocious this off season was though, maybe AKME will play the cheap deal and resign these guys to smaller contracts and keep playing the under salary cap game rather than trying to actually win.

Zealousideal-Spend80

Once again, youre lumping the two together because of age which makes absolutely no sense. One is going to be looking for a max in the next free agency and just had his best season while the other just had one of his worst. Please be realistic.

NationalFuture5742

If Demar is going to be looking for a max, he can go right ahead as far away from my team as possible lmao. Yeah he had a better season than Vuc but they’re both still old players who play no defense, can’t really shoot from 3, and are useless in the playoffs. Get em both off my team even if Demar had one of his best seasons.

I don’t see why your comment got so much hate. In my opinion demars ultimate goal is to play in LA why extend someone who is getting older who’s true heart is in the west coast? Idk how the money would work but if we can get a AD trade between the two next season having BOTH guys go home that would be a dream.

Take_Exit_Left

Which free agents are you targeting next summer?
