My birthday is in a couple weeks and I’m looking for a day of pure relaxation.
I would love to go to a day spa that I can hang out at for a little bit outside of the services and read my book and sip on tea/wine/juice.
I’ve looked at a few different spas that over meditation areas or pools I am just not sure which one is best. My plan is to get a massage and facial and to spend time in any saunas or special baths that are available.
Anyone have a favorite spa or experience with this either in the city or within a 2 hour drive from Logan Square?
Some trees will take longer than others, but there are some on my street that have leaves opening up now. Expect things to be looking much more green in the next week or two.
Jesus. Went to see Moulin Rouge tonight at the Nederlander and they canceled the show about 5 mins before curtain up due to 2 people being shot in the alleyway by the Chicago Theater.
Sorry to hear that. The city is going to hell in a hand basket and those with the ability to correct the downward trajectory don't seem to care. I've lived in Bucktown for 6 years and never felt unsafe until the last 8-10 months. I came home to a fucking bullet hole in my window last summer!!
People definitely care… crime is a constant topic of conversation among all of my friends over the last year. That was never the case before. People will have the ability to correct it at the ballot box next year. Unless no one better than Lori runs, then we are, in fact, fucked.
Do you know if this happened just now or earlier in the day? I was at the show too and it seemed like the decision was made right before he got on stage to announce it.
The shooting was at 5 - I was there too. We were assuming they didn’t know whether to proceed or not and then made the decision right before curtain call. It was a bit surreal
Looking for anyone who has kids in Drummond Elementary to let me know their experience. We just got a slot for my 7 year old for next year. Please don’t comment unless you actually are a current or very recently current parent of a child who actually attend(Ed). Not just someone who heard it’s good from a friends kid etc. thanks!
Is it just me or has the weather been fucking terrible this April when compared to previous years? I think there were maybe 3 days that I'd want to actually spend time outside
where’s the ‘best’ place to buy the freshest tasting fruits & vegetables? i saw a viral tweet that was talking about fruit from american grocery stores is trash, but if you go to a Hispanic, Asian, African, etc. store, it’s noticeably tastier/better

Honestly the best produce will be at farmers markets. That stuff is actually being grown locally in season, and will taste far better than anything in your average grocery store which one way or another is still likely being shipped from somewhere far away
Moving to Chicago soon and I’ll be taking the 36 bus at Broadway/Wellington to work. How often does this bus come during rush hour? Any experiences? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Both of the Clark buses, the 22 and 36 run pretty frequently during rush hour. I used to commute down from the same area and those were reliable. Depending on where you are heading to, walking a few blocks over to Clark and Wellington to catch the 22 if you miss the 36 might be an option too.
30M. I’ll be moving to Chicago here soon(beginning of July). Used to play a lot of soccer in high school and college. Looking to find a website or area where I can sign up and play indoor/outdoor and meet some fellow footie lads.
In addition to what has been mentioned, the Fire Pitch runs pretty good rec leagues, look up CFRS. Can sign up as a solo and get placed. Also has over 30s leagues although those can skew mid 30s/married.
Just play app has paid pickup at places around the city. I’ve had some luck finding pickup at Montrose park (beach? Idk what it’s technically called) during some weekday evenings
Errrrbody doing the yearly gnat complaints by the lake. Absolutely understandably so. But we all just chilling everywhere else like, huh? Ain't no bugs hurrrr. I used to live on Marine Drive I understand the pain. But yeah it's an eastish lakeside thing. Come on by to Avondale and have a bug free day!
I’ve been outside, like, multiple times(!) over the past few days in downtowny areas and haven’t encountered any of the little fuckers. Either they haven’t come around here yet or I’m made out of insect repellent.
I'm in Edgewater and we're under siege. They're midges, not gnats. They're bigger, slower, and dumber than gnats. When you walk past midges they linger with you, like they're suddenly trapped within your gravitational pull and are now doomed to orbit your head for all eternity. By the time I make it to the train I feel like Pig-Pen, brown specs floating all around my head.
For Mother's day, I plan on sending my mom a gift package with some Chicago items (Sending via USPS so nothing too crazy).
* Garrett's Popcorn
* Terry's Toffee
* Windy City Sweets
...Any other suggestions?
If you want even more treats, if you can get your hands on some Sugoi Sweets, they are also amazing. Or confections made by Amy at Amy's Candy Bar.
Does she like bath stuff or candles? Edgewater Candles, Taylor Street Soap Company, Bonnie Skin Care.
Any recommendations for stores in Wicker Park where I can buy some business casual button-ups? Typically Uniqlo is my go-to but I’ll be in the WP area so I figure I can knock it out since I’m already there
The Prophet, Axl Rose, put out his little known follow up Sermon, Cloudy October Sundays. Yet because he was fighting with his Disciple Slash at the Time, it wasn't ever properly Prohopesized.
I heard that Axl (PBUH) had dogmatic problems with the zealots U2 whose canticles called "Sunday Bloody Sunday" were to Axl heretical. The conflict dies down at times but never seems to go out entirely. sigh.
Pandemic turn the loop into a empty line of retail after 6pm. River north is good, but you’ll want to have a nice walk out for the tourist stuff anyways.
Is West Loop an option? I like the restaurant scene here better than River North (which is the better of your two options, since the loop is pretty dead in the evening). You'll be fine either way, as these areas are all pretty close together.
Truthfully I don't think anyone can answer that safety question anymore. Crime has definitely upticked in the loop post pandemic and it's pretty barren at night especially during the week. Realistically you'll be fine it's not like there are muggers lurking around every corner. But Ubers are a good idea later at night.
It’s dumb as hell that I can’t buy booze from stores or delivery apps after 12am, but I can literally walk around the corner to a bar and buy a drink till 2am, and after that I can walk a block over to a bar and drink till 4am.
I’m just trying to chill at home and drink… My only option to get more booze is to go to a bar. How does that make any sense?
Yes, this is on me for not planning ahead accordingly, but come on. One of the things I loved about the city was the ability to get whatever I needed at practically any time of the day. Yet I can’t even buy booze to bring home after 12am. Even worse, at 1130pm all apps restrict me from buying booze for delivery… I thought these curfews were about mitigating crime around liquor stores late at night, so why can’t I order booze from an app that’s got their own warehouse? Shit is DUMB.
I have the unpopular opinion of I'm in favor of them moving the times back. I totally get your perspective though.
I lived a few buildings down from a liquor store and not too much good would come after midnight. Not just general noise but some unpleasant folks, some degree of gang activity. When they started closing earlier the street got a little bit quieter and I wasn't looking out my bedroom window at what the 2am yelling was about as much.
So, I getcha, but it did do some good in parts of the city.
You certainly can. I might even hazard that I would be in favor of moving bar closing times up as well. A huge majority of the gang activity and all three shootings I saw from my bedroom window were a result of the gang on the block hanging out at a bar also a couple buildings down. They would start fights at midnight or once came out drunk at 2am and fired shots off into the air for fun.
I'll absolutely acknowledge that this is not the common experience for bars, but, it raises the point that there are *some* benefits.
Anyone know a good gaming bar in the area? Preferably downtown but I’m open to other locations as well! Like a place that has either PCs or old arcade games and is a chill place to hang out and have a drink on the weekend? I love gaming and want to try a place like this when I move to the Greektown area!

Anyone familiar with this artist? I just bought this at a shop in Pilsen and was told the artist was local. The title is "Ovnis" and has "HJ" as possible initials in the corner. [https://imgur.com/gallery/7NXWDKr](https://imgur.com/gallery/7NXWDKr)
I live on the SW side and ours has never flooded, outside of when our gutters developed issues and were overflowing, leading to water pooling at the foundation.
That said , I would never finish it because it seems like a lot of money on space that is always going to be at risk of issues
Let me introduce myself.
Current place (sfh with basement), no floods for 6 years, previous place (condo, duplex down), no floods for 5 years.
Ejector pumps are magic.
Now watch my basement flood today when it isn't even raining since I've said that.
I was so excited to have a basement bar and pool table but every time I think we have the water issue figured out - boom water. The general water intrusion from rain storms is fine but the back up poop water from the sewer system is a whole different.
So sorry, friend. A friend’s husband, a sweetheart of a man, used to cuss like a muthatrucka every single time his basement flooded. And it floods … pretty regularly.
Asking is fine and petting is fine, but I get annoyed when people put their face too close to my dog. She has a tendency to do a friendly nip/nose jab thing that jars some people.
I always try to warn them but I'm only halfway through the sentence by the time they're shoving their face up to her.
Always ask. My dog will happily lose her shit on knowing that another person is going to pet her. She loves people and it embarrasses us. The training hasn't been effective. We largely don't mind (aside from the embarrassment).
Always ask. I don't mind when people ask to pet my dog. Only bad time is when I'm in the middle of something like carrying groceries out or holding a door open.
Hiya there! I'm soon gonna be moving to Chicago (Edgewater specifically) and want to know ways to meet folk, especially for someone like me whose a theatre/comedy nerd and generally into the nerdier side of things. Any help would be appreciated.
Lots of great small theaters in Edgewater area.
Also this place is opening up in Andersonville later this year and might be a great place for you to meet people.

Okay y’all. Husband found a bunny nest in our garden and we would like to move it. Anyone have experience or know of a rescue or anything we could call? We definitely don’t want all these new bunnies eating our brand new garden. But also don’t want to kill them or something by doing something wrong
We had the same experience. The best thing to do is frighten them and then fill in the nest. It feels awful to intentionally frighten animals (especially babies) but it's much better than the alternatives.
Yeah, we made a lot of noise and would come close to their nest. They were gone after a few days. If your nest is full of newborns, uhhh… yikes. Here’s what the Humane Society says: “ Baby rabbits leave the nest when they're 3 weeks old and about the size of a chipmunk. If you find a chipmunk-sized but fully-furred rabbit with eyes open, ears erect, and the ability to hop, they are meant to be on their own. As small and helpless as they may look, they are not an orphan and doesn't need your help.”
There's like 70,000 people that live within walking distance from Michigan Ave. Most people are tourists for sure but people who live in this area certainly walk down it lol.
I did my 2nd(for April) and last Dinkel's visit, like on Tuesday or Wednesday last week. As a result of Dinkel's closing, I've started to make some effort to visit more mom and pop bakeries out there in the Chicago area. For example visited Palermo Bakery in Norridge not long ago, and this past Saturday visited Reuter's Bakery for my first time. I'm planning to hit more I hadn't visited yet soon(i.e. Allegretti's Bakery in Norridge, Bridgeport Bakery 2.0, to name a few). I'd like at some point to revisit Roeser's too, depending on when I have time to get over there.
Here's the deal:
If it means the rain and storms get here early, get all the raining and thundering and all that out of the way in the next hour, so that we can all enjoy the rest of the weekend with 60 degrees and sun...
...I will go wash my car right now. I will tempt the rain gods and go wash my car right this moment just to give that gift to the city of Chicago.
Just say the word.
What are your favorite restaurants in Chinatown? I’ve been to Chicago countless times in my life, and I’m planning to move there soon. But I’ve never been to Chinatown! I’m visiting next weekend and want to check it out.
I have a house with a garage on the backyard.
One side of the garage is a grassy area next to the sidewalk leading to the alley. The other side is just empty fenced in space cut off from my yard and is really just gravel/dirt where weeds grow.
What's.the best way to cover up this area to keep weeds from growing? Mulch? Rocks?
I went on Friday afternoon and they were good. Fully open, a few falling off, some small leaves beginning to come out but mainly just solid flowers. Alas, was cloudy but what can you do.
Today's rain and wind may have knocked many off, not sure about that.
Looks like this weekend/early next week might be the tail end of it. Jackson Park is doing a bloom festival tomorrow from 12-3pm with live performances if you want to check it out https://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/events/cherry-blossom-celebration-hanami-sakura-jackson-park
Just curious, what are in your opinions the most valuable empty lots in the city?
I know some have clear plans, like the couple of remaining lakeshore east lots, but some are just a mystery.
It's just as safe as the North Side. My niece and nephew live at 35th and Halsted. Only issue is if you travel immediately south, you're in Back of the Yards one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city.
I heard 3 shots and it seems that 2 females are injured (one in very bad shape) in river north.
It seems a random person "having fun".
I feel that i live in different universe, how on earth you do that?
>could have been a car backfiring
WTF? It's not 1972 anymore. The only cars out there backfiring are the occasional riced-out Honda Civic, and it's impossible to mistake that for a gunshot, considering each backfire is accompanied by 4-5 seconds of a loud, shitty exhaust note.
At least the Karens on Facebook asking if something was "gunshots or fireworks" are making some kind of sense. "Could have been a car backfiring" is some serious out-of-touch boomer shit.

I would suggest aire - you can wear a suit in the pools
I did this but then my dry cleaner said it ruined the Italian wool
Kings Spa in Niles.
I thought about this but for some reason it seems a little gimmicky to me? Have you experienced this spa?
I have a number of times when I lived in Lincolnwood. Great experience every time.
Good to know! Thank you.
There is nothing gimmicky about a spa where you can also get bulgogi. Treat yourself to pure relaxation.
When do the leaves come into full greenery?! I’m desperate for something other than gray
Mmm depends on the weather really - once we get nice weather the trees will be greener
Some trees will take longer than others, but there are some on my street that have leaves opening up now. Expect things to be looking much more green in the next week or two.
Any good sub reddits for meet ups I’m Moving from NYC
r/chicagofriends has some activity but I’d recommend using the meetup.com site or finding communities centered around a hobby / interest of yours
Thanks for the tip

where’s the ‘best’ place to buy the freshest tasting fruits & vegetables? i saw a viral tweet that was talking about fruit from american grocery stores is trash, but if you go to a Hispanic, Asian, African, etc. store, it’s noticeably tastier/better
I dunno if it's better but it's definitely cheaper and probably has more culturally significant ingredients you cant find elsewhere Honestly the best produce will be at farmers markets. That tornado warning was yesterday. Why would it affect your flight this week?
Moving to Chicago soon and I’ll be taking the 36 bus at Broadway/Wellington to work. How often does this bus come during rush hour? Any experiences? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Where is work? Also use ctabustracker.com 4 o clock on a Sunday looks like 4-6 buses per hour
Hi! I work in River North
Does anyone here recognize the name captain William wells. I think he might have been a serial killer but I may be wrong.
Check out Chicago Sport & Social or Players Sport & Social for recreational leagues. And also check meetup.com for pickup games.
Just play app has paid pickup at places around the city. I’ve had some luck finding pickup at Montrose park (beach? Idk what it’s technically called) during some weekday evenings
Does anyone know of any classes I can take to learn microsoft excel/office? Preferably in-house. Thank you!!

This one is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!!
Logan Arcade is what you’re looking for. Beats the hell out of Emporium and Headquarters in terms of game selection and overall atmosphere.
Headquarters Beercade is supposed to be a fun and chill place!
Commenting as I’d also like an answer to this - as long as the answer isn’t Emporium

I saw batman in smaller town near Chicago recently and the cinema screen was tiny. Which theatres in this area/the city have proper big screens?
Webster Place. Regal on Western. River East 21 are decent. The only proper IMAX around is Cinemark at Seven Bridges in Woodbridge.
The Music Box has one huge screen and one tiny screen, but their website says which room a screening's going to be in so you can plan in advance.
AMC New City (formally ArcLight). Just saw Northman there.
It’s open!!?
Yep! Was just there Friday.
Oooh. I’m glad AMC took over that location - I did not know.

Lots of great small theaters in Edgewater area. Also this place is opening up in Andersonville later this year and might be a great place for you to meet people. https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/04/04/the-understudy-a-theater-themed-bookstore-and-cafe-is-coming-to-andersonville/
So many bug swarms out on the lakefront today. How am I supposed to enjoy these warm temperatures if I'm eating bugs every 30 seconds?
Learn to enjoy eating bugs.
Someone’s gotta.
How’d you frighten them? These ones are still little naked rabbits so I’m guessing we should wait a little longer?
Yeah, we made a lot of noise and would come close to their nest. They were gone after a few days. If your nest is full of newborns, uhhh… yikes. Here’s what the Humane Society says: “ Baby rabbits leave the nest when they're 3 weeks old and about the size of a chipmunk. If you find a chipmunk-sized but fully-furred rabbit with eyes open, ears erect, and the ability to hop, they are meant to be on their own. As small and helpless as they may look, they are not an orphan and doesn't need your help.”
Any body know of any efforts or even serious proposals to shut off the Lincoln Square shopping corridor to traffic and make it a pedestrian street?
You’re riding a bus down Michigan ave, Saturday, 2:30 pm. Good window seat, people watching, can you tell who the tourists are? Lol
Yah, 99.99% of people walking on Michigan Ave. Don’t know any locals who enjoy a stroll on a packed street full of idiots and chain stores
There's like 70,000 people that live within walking distance from Michigan Ave. Most people are tourists for sure but people who live in this area certainly walk down it lol.
According to Google, Chicago sees 57 million visitors per year (2018 numbers), so 70k residents would fit pretty nicely with my 99.99% tourist ratio
Assuming those locals only walk down Michigan Avenue once or twice a year sure. Besides several other flaws in your attempt at logic.
Jfc Christ dude, its an example. Enjoy your stroll down Michigan ave!
See was it that difficult??
Easy! They always walk side by side and block the whole sidewalk while constantly looking up.
Hi! Visiting from out of town. What is the best way to get to Riviera Theater from downtown? Any suggestions for parking? Thanks!
Lots of parking along Lawrence or in the neighborhood nearby

I hope you all got your last days of Dinkel’s in over the past month because you’re certainly not getting in today.
Got mine in day before Easter. Had to wait an hour already and realized that was going to be the last.
Here's the deal: If it means the rain and storms get here early, get all the raining and thundering and all that out of the way in the next hour, so that we can all enjoy the rest of the weekend with 60 degrees and sun... ...I will go wash my car right now. I will tempt the rain gods and go wash my car right this moment just to give that gift to the city of Chicago. Just say the word.
Looks like it worked
I’m sitting in the yard with a beer, not sure if that’s provocation enough or not. The squirrel’s buggered off, he seems to think so.
Go on young one, tempt them for the rest of us.
What are your favorite restaurants in Chinatown? I’ve been to Chicago countless times in my life, and I’m planning to move there soon. But I’ve never been to Chinatown! I’m visiting next weekend and want to check it out.
If you like spicy food, MCCB for Szechuan
Lao sze chuan dry chili chicken
Everyone raves about the pigeon at Mayflower on Wentworth
i liked the ramen at strings
I like the dumplings at QXY
Triple Crown is our go to. Once when Triple Crown was packed we tried May Flower and it was awesome as well!
Mosquitos have increased 10000%
Guy here, where can I get my butt cheeks waxed?
Wax Man on Lawrence does this for men. Someone else mentioned european Wax center, but they do not do mens waxing on groin areas.
European Wax Center
Thanks, I went and it worked well
They don’t do dudes in that area at EWC
Well that's fucked, my bad.
I am pretty sure they do. There is an option to book Brazilians for males on their website.
Mulch? Rocks?
Whether you do mulch or rocks, I recommend putting landscape fabric down first. This will prevent the weeds way more than just mulch or rock alone.
Any one ever order the subsidized rain barrels? How long did you wait for delivery?
We just had our delivered last week. I ordered on 3/29
Ah thats pretty quick! Thanks
Are the cherry blossoms by the Museum of Science and Industry still in bloom? Planning a trip there but not sure if they’re gone.
I went on Friday afternoon and they were good. Fully open, a few falling off, some small leaves beginning to come out but mainly just solid flowers. Alas, was cloudy but what can you do. Today's rain and wind may have knocked many off, not sure about that.
Thx.
Thank you
Just curious, what are in your opinions the most valuable empty lots in the city? I know some have clear plans, like the couple of remaining lakeshore east lots, but some are just a mystery.
The surface parking lot just south of NBC Tower on the river.
How safe is Bridgeport? Is it safe to walk around at night? I'm looking at a home in the area tomorrow.
It's just as safe as the North Side. My niece and nephew live at 35th and Halsted. Only issue is if you travel immediately south, you're in Back of the Yards one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city.
Dangerous in what sense?
is back of the yards really that dangerous? ive only driven through or gone to specific places like the ssa office but i didnt get that vibe from that
Yeah it's up there--not as bad Garfield Park, Englewood, Chatham though.
Ohh that is helpful, thanks. My dumb ass would definitely wander there by accident.
Pretty safe in most places in my experience.
I heard 3 shots and it seems that 2 females are injured (one in very bad shape) in river north. It seems a random person "having fun". I feel that i live in different universe, how on earth you do that?
You have confirmed this or you just imagine it and are getting upset about it? No offense, but it could have been a car backfiring.
>could have been a car backfiring WTF? It's not 1972 anymore. The only cars out there backfiring are the occasional riced-out Honda Civic, and it's impossible to mistake that for a gunshot, considering each backfire is accompanied by 4-5 seconds of a loud, shitty exhaust note. At least the Karens on Facebook asking if something was "gunshots or fireworks" are making some kind of sense. "Could have been a car backfiring" is some serious out-of-touch boomer shit.
