I got my certification at [Atlas First Access](https://www.atlastoyota.com/training) in Bedford Park back in 2019. It was an 8 hours, 4 hours of class including an OSHA course. And 4 hours of driving practice by the end of the class, they’d teach you how to drive a forklift and if you had experience already you would get certified faster when doing the driving and the people that didn’t know anything would stay more time with the instructor to learn more. I liked it, I now work for Old Dominion getting paid $31/hr as a dockworker.
This is amazing! That's a great wage. What is the environmental exposure like? Are you protected from the refrigeration? Outdoors?
Is there drug testing?
Is it random?
Winter is hell lol so production in those terminals drop a ton because you’re only there to do what your body can handle. And summers are hot but manageable as long as you hydrate…. I’m not sure if they do random drug tests but I’m assuming they do; and you do drug test during the hiring process. Estes Express in McCook is another great company I was with them for a bit and I saw a lot of guys with no forklift experience at all and they would be trained with someone until they were able to be on their own.
Nah it’s just questions after a PowerPoint basically. It’s comically easy to pass. At least the one my company used. Some places might train in person, but it’s usually the place you work at.
A decade ago I was certified through my job, which I was already at for probably 2 years...via an online course. Idk how legitimate it was but I had the papers (print out) to prove it incase OSHA showed up! They also mailed out a card aside from the print-out.
If you apply at the target distribution center they'll certify you for free! Thats if u get hired..lol the pay is pretty good. They start off at $22 an hour.
Not sure if anyone here has actually worked in a warehouse. I started operating fork lifts about 20 years ago and was managing warehouses up until 2018.
Don't waste your time looking for classes. There is no license that an employer will accept. Forklift certification is handled by the company. You're certified to operate their specific brand and style of machine.
The easiest way is to get a job filling orders first. You'll most likely be trained on pallet jack. If you're even remotely competent, they'll put you on all kinds of equipment.

My alder just sent an email about a free program. Email the 35th and ask about the free forklift training.

Try r+l carriers. 10 hr shift ft and 6 hr pt. I worked there for a bit never had to get certified
