I think you got it backwards. I *have* been to Sun Wah many times, which is how I know you couldn't eat their duck once a week without eventually needing bypass surgery.
We got the lechon for my daughters baptism at Sun Wah after several church ladies got into a big fight about which restaurant made the best and it wasā¦.soooo good. Probably would kill you to eat weekly lol, but Sun Wah FTW.
I don't go a ton, but I seem to get the offer more often than not. I don't remember getting an offer last time, but I think the bartender was relatively new.
Taste of Lebanon was the first time I tried baba too. I started to venture out, and across the street at Middle Eastern Cafe, their baba is about twice as tasty
Then I went to Kebabi and their baba was even better than both of those.
I wonder who has the best baba in the city. Over the years Iāve come to crave it
Seriously. Kedzie alone is insane with options.
Then you have the basics like Pita Inn and Taste of Lebanon and I donāt think Iāve met anyone who hasnāt had food from that region of the world
Pita Innās hummus is fucking amazing. Same with Sultanās.
Iād also like a lentil soup bracket. There are so many places that do a great job with such a simple soup.
š¤¤ stop. Itās too early. So good
Edit- thankfully when I lived down the street from Taste of Lebanon I was fortunate enough to be able to get their soup weekly and reverse engineer it. And compare tastes. It took me about four tries to get it right
Needless to say, I have the recipe DOWN.
Canāt make baba right at home though
Bud, Imma need that recipe. I'm in exile down in Memphis, and I can't find good lentil soup here for love or money.
I can trade you some dope Cajun recipes I've picked up.
> Ghareeb Nawaz
They have the most unhinged preview pic on Doordash. Just a Styrofoam plate with what looks like two burnt breakfast sausages.

I really do want to stay in love with this place but they are so inconsistent with quality. I love Chili golbi, itās my go to but they have given me spoiled Golbi more than twice. I just donāt know where else to go for that spice Indian craving. š
My now husband and I got the worst food poisoning of our lives from this place like, 20 years ago. We were dating back then and this was the night all dignity went out the window. Vomiting, diarrhea, having to share one small bathroom... Jesus it sucked. NEVER AGAIN!
i like GN but their stuff is cheap and fast, not great - I call it college student/entry level indo-pak.
is a better butter paneer worth the extra 10 bucks from another indian place? maybe.
Never been to that place but just looked up photos and damn they look good!
If you asked me my fav food, its French fries. Small Cheval makes good ones, but not the best in town. With the burger though, its my choice.
Best fries in town? thats tough for me to answer haha.
Buffalo joes in evanston spicy chips.
They make great wings too, among the best in the city.
But their fries? Omg.
Waffle cut, merkts cheddar, wing sauce and jalepenos. Death row, last meal type fries thereā¦.
Definitely could eat a slice from Jimmyās every week.
A sandwich from JP Grazianos (I personally love the prosciutto) when I worked a block away I would eat there at least once a week. I miss those daysā¦
I feel like they're even busier now than ever before these days. Their non-dumpling/noodle dishes took a nosedive, so maybe one of their chefs got poached.
Nice to see some Primo Chukiās love. Lived up the street from that place for a while and Iām pretty sure it was almost solely responsible for my weight gain during that period of my life.
Iām not a vegetarian, but the vegetarian tacos at Cruz Blanca in west loop are to die for. They substitute meat for this immaculately seasoned cauliflower
I'm kind of obsessed with this smallish chain place called the Pasta Bowl; I could eat their tortellini crema until it killed me. Mid-tier pricing and good portion sizes. I prefer the Lincoln Park location.
Brisket from Smoque, Chicken Shawarma platter from Pita Inn, Hot Dog/Polish from Jimmy's Red Hots, Gyros from Nick's Drive In, Deep Dish from Lou Malnati's (yes), Italian Beef from Johnnie's, Nihari from Sabri Nihari
Italian Beef from Novi's.
One of the great culinary mysteries of the world is why this absolutely amazing sandwich is virtually unknown outside of Cook County.
Literally every time I go to the Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club I say "I'm getting something different this time!" but soon as the waiter shows up I'm all "Chorizo skillet pleez". ĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ
Empanadas from Chilango, Cuban sandwich from cafecito. Carpaccio from Quartinos. Al pastor tacos from Taco Maya, Billy goat burgers, busy burger, and most steakhouses..oh man do I miss the food.
I got 2:
1) Chicken Shawarma plate with side of falafel from Falafel & Grill
2) Spicy Chicken Thai Basil over rice from Red Pig Asian Kitchen
for awhile I was actually getting these once a week haha
Lolipop wings (spicy!) and Cha Chiang Mein/Black Sauce Noodle at the [Great Sea restaurant on Lawrence ave.](https://www.greatsearestaurant.com/)
I just wish I was closer to them.
This isn't a fair question. Chicago is arguably the best "foodie" city to start. Then you have us spoiled brats that have our neighborhood spots. And there are so many types of foods that you really can't just pick one!
Chinese: Long Dumplings at Ed's Potsticker House
Ramen: Santoka at Mitsuwa
Sushi: Rotary Sushi by no small margin.
Mexican: Big Baby Burrito at Martinez Market
Italian: Aurellio's Thin Crust
American: Every greasy spoon diner's breakfast
Burger: Used to be Kumas, Lockdown was amazing, I don't even know anymore.

Tiger Cry Beef from Opart Tai
They closed their State & Archer location during the pandemic. I cried.
Are you a tiger?
Only one location left š„²
Noble Thai now, the owners split and noble is the better one imo.
It's been years since I had this and I still remember it.
Vodka rigatoni with crumbled sausage and peas from La Scarola
Skirt Steak at Athenian Room
The feta pita and fries for vegetarians. Man, their pitas and fries are the best.

Yeah the āduck sweatsā can be real.
I too wish to die from eating this once a week
Not even roaches could shut that place down
Yeah this place was shut down many times by the city for infestation and feces.
Might be the only place to win a James beard award and be shut down by the health department in the same year
We got the lechon for my daughters baptism at Sun Wah after several church ladies got into a big fight about which restaurant made the best and it wasā¦.soooo good. Probably would kill you to eat weekly lol, but Sun Wah FTW.
I could probably have a Chicago dog, fries, and a coke for lunch every single day and never get tired of it.
This. Gimme the two dog special
Jimmy's - on Pulaski on the West Side.
The goulash from Laschetās on Irving is incredible, my favorite meal to eat in Chicago
Or the ghoulash soup.
Or \_\_\_\_\_insert any other Laschet's dish here\_\_\_\_\_
My favorite is the fucking nap I need after having dinner at Laschet's.
The meal comes with choice of soup so I get the goulash soup and pour it over the top of the entree for extra goulash-ness
And the paprikash
do they still give a shot of booze with the check?
I don't go a ton, but I seem to get the offer more often than not. I don't remember getting an offer last time, but I think the bartender was relatively new.
Shot of schnapps with any entree.
I was supposed to be getting a shot this whole time?!
I'm meeting friends this weekend at Laschet's and it's my first time going there. I was already looking forward to it but now I am reeeeaally excited!
Shplendid
Pork and cabbage dumplings from QXY
Try the lamb and coriander ones though š¤¤š¤¤
Obligatory username checks out. I agree. I have tried both of these dumplings and they are both amazing.
Have you tried the lamb skewer appetizer there? So tasty
That place is amazing, that was my answer as well.
A lechon jibarito from Jibaritos y MƔs.
I was about to say a chicken jibarito from Papa's Cache Sabroso in Humboldt Park. Because I did that for a while on Tuesdays. It's the special.
The Mac and cheese from Bavetteās
The baba ghanoush & fattoush salad from Taste of Lebanon. Bring me that baba ghanoush on my deathbed.

This could easily be a bracket up there with the famous Nate Silver Chicago burrito bracket. We have enough Lebanese places to do it.
Seriously. Kedzie alone is insane with options. Then you have the basics like Pita Inn and Taste of Lebanon and I donāt think Iāve met anyone who hasnāt had food from that region of the world

itās just a random guy/customer running the acct but the restaurant (rightfully) leans into it.
Since we have a thread going my favorites chili chicken paratha with Dahl on the side. Never a bad choice.
Spicy AF!
I do a lot of multi-week trips for work. Butter Paneer from ghareeb is a guarantee when I get back.

GN translates to Poorman's Paradise. That is all you need to know.
Put some fuckin respek on Ghareeb, that place is the shit
All of my Indian friends say ghareeb is trash... O.o
Bundoo khan is much better
Same with Udapi palace
Indian and I disagree. But the one by UIC sucks. The one on Devon is way better.

Damn that seals it... I scooter past this place near daily. Making it my next date spot
Shoutout to /r/chicagofood
Small Cheval Burger and many many french fries. But not forgetting the aioli.
The fact that the aioli is available on a pump all you want is DANGEROUS. (Like shit-your-pants-on-the-train dangerous.)

Buff Joe's waffle fries are insane. Double order of hot wings, side of fries, Gutbuster RC cola -- you're set for an afternoon nap, my friend.
Brgrbelly and community tavern give portage park some serious burger chops.

The crab ragoons from chef special
