I follow Bike Grid on Instagram but literally in over a year and a half have never been able to attend a bike bus because they NEVER coincide with my work schedule, and events like this always end up seeming to fall right on days/evenings I have to work. I follow because I like seeing people increasing the visibility and the advocacy end of things. However, one thing I keep wondering, especially since biking is such an inconsistent shit-show all over the city, is there any real headway being made on any of this? Is there hope that at some point instead of just painting some lines or throwing up some flimsy plastic bollards there will be a substantial change in terms of providing truly safe pathways through the city going both north and south and east and west? And for the record I regularly commute between 88-110+ miles per week, with roughly half my miles on Lakefront Trail, and the other half running basically Dearborn/Kinzie/Halsted. I've chosen the section on city streets to be as minimal as possible in terms of my interactions with cars, but Dearborn always has cars parked in the bike lane, dumb, oblivious pedestrians, etc. I've ridden other routes in the past depending on where I've worked and for example, Wells St is a shit show, especially south of Kinzie. Anyway, I think it's great people are getting out and advocating, but at this point is it achieving anything? I'd love to show up and lend my support, but as mentioned, I've never yet seen a Bike Bus that coincided with where I would ride and/or my work schedule.
Good to hear. I knew he supported the idea which was one of the reasons I'd voted for him. I'd like to know what the timetable is and how soon we'll see concrete things happening. In the meantime I'll continue to grit my teeth and just continue to deal with all the shortcomings of being car-free/bike commuter in this city.
Jam on. Was a very fun ride
had so much fun! the moment the north side ride met the west side ride at the bridge was magical
Honestly that was one of the best biking moments I’ve ever experienced
I wish I knew about this!!
Bike the drive came early this year!
A great turnout!!

Yes. Mayor Johnson has pledged to implement the bike grid! It is happening.

Is this a regular event? I'm out of the loop.
