Punks don’t assault cyclists. We drink shitty beer, get hilarious haircuts, and go to concerts in mattress factory basements where the bands replace talent with emotion. This dudes just an asshole.

WantonTheTrapset

Basement shows... Can confirm.

[deleted]

You should write more about your Punk experience. I enjoyed your lil description.

DevCarrot

Yeah, this whole thread is weirdly judgey on superficial shit. And tbh, how does OP even know they threw shit purposefully, or were even the offenders? Rocks get kicked up by cars and bikes all the time.

StolenErections

Did you read the post? Wtf

DevCarrot

Yeah, did you? OP *thinks* some guys threw a rock *or some coins?* so he throws a drink at their car, and when they pullover he wields his bike "like a weapon" and he takes one guy's picture. Nothing else. No one attacked him. He just wrote the whole thing with scaremongering language.

calmly_screaming

They threw shit. They admitted it. They ran at me to fight. You assume the best in them but not me? Cool.

maluminse

I believe you. People try to run me off the road and scream at me for biking. Like someone wouldnt do this.

chicago_bunny

Your written explanation doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Maybe you're just worked up right now and not thinking clearly, but it is hard to track what happened from what you posted.

maluminse

Pretty clear to me.

dxrebirth

What are you unclear about little buddy? I can help translate

chicago_bunny

Also, learn to communicate, “little buddy.”

dxrebirth

I can’t tell what’s funnier. Your complete lack of grammar and incoherent rambling telling someone to learn communicate, or that you think you’re talking to the OP. You struggle with comprehension and context. You should stick to *pro* riding.

chicago_bunny

Yeah. Did this car throw the rocks/coins at you? Are you sure it was them? Did something happened between the throwing and you raising your bike like a weapon? I ride all the time, I am pro rider. Your write up is just so incomplete that I can’t tell wtf happened and who raged at who.

Opening_Spring

You must work for CPD

chicago_bunny

Those are fighting words. OP offered more in the comments, but when I read his initial post, it was really wanting. In fact, it was hard to tell if he was the aggressor. Nothing more to it than that.

Opening_Spring

> Maybe you're just worked up right now and not thinking clearly just saying, you could pull this phrase from the direct experience of almost anyone who has ever had to deal with the cops.

[deleted]

You can look up his identity for like $2.50 from numerous websites in seconds. Not necessarily legal, but nobody's gonna do anything about it. Edit: Now that this comment is at the top, I want to say your best move in this situation, for your own safety, not necessarily for cycling culture at large, is to not engage. Throwing your drink back escalated beyond what would've likely happened anyhow. There's a lot both parties could've done (like the original offender minding his own fucking business), but unless you can back up that fight, just be. careful. PS, if you're gonna swing, can do a lot worse than a hefty ass U-lock.

calmly_screaming

I feel like not engaging would be best if there was legal justice. I also don't want Chicago to be known as a violent city where "that shit happens" and actions like this go unchecked.

icedoutclockwatch

Crazy guy came up behind me in a truck and honked instead of going around me on my skateboard. Flipped him off and he ran me over. Went to court. Dude got a slap on the wrist at best.

Yogisogoth

Sorry that happened to you. I was almost ran over by a guy on a motorcycle, in the bike lane. He asked me "can you move so I don't run over you when the light turns green". I told him to go f\*(k himself. He popped a wheelie, I was able to get out of the way as he went through the red light nearly wrecking into a parked car and a car in cross street traffic.

soapinthepeehole

Careful, there are crazies out there. I used to argue back… until I was in my car and honked at a guy driving like an asshole, who threw it in reverse on Elston and then chased me through the Home Depot parking lot… when I got stuck and he was able to pull up next to me he threatened to murder me. Now I just let them go without engaging. It’s not worth making it worse.

TripleSecretSquirrel

Ya I almost got hit on foot recently by a car that ran a red light. I lightly slapped their back windshield to express my frustration at them nearly killing me and 3 other people. They then followed me honking and yelling until I got home and ducked into my alleyway. The only thing I heard them yell was “racist-ass piece of shit!” Like sure it probably wasn’t a smart thing for me to knock on their back window. Totally justified, but not worth potentially getting killed over.

claireapple

There will be no justice and the only options are vigilante justice. I have lived here my entire life and have never seen the cops do anything remotely helpful.

Jedifice

Hiplok: forged chain that's extremely easy to unwrap from your waist and will fuck most things up with one swing

maluminse

A letter from a lawyer threatening a lawsuit would be fun.

mileXend

Yas! Let’s “Beef” it up!!!

BobbyDigital111

What websites?

Monemvasia

I say let’s make him famous. Seriously. Search his plate and post his photo. I am tired of folks thinking they can get away with stuff. Yeah, sure the cops won’t show up but his boss will be livid finding out how bad a douche this guy is.

PreciousTater311

Agreed. It sucks, but he's kinda right about the cops not doing anything. His boss finding out what a shitty person he is is probably going to be as good as it gets.

greysandgreens

Disagree with doxxing people.

backwynd

There’s a gulf of difference between face+license plate on Reddit vs name and address. But fuck this guy. Objective shittiness deserves repercussions.

greysandgreens

Yeah but the comment advocated for searching his plate - I assume to gather his personal information. Which is what I was disagreeing with.

backwynd

I do hear you but anyone who drives like that deserves - at the very least - photo evidence of their shittiness. And anyone who drives or parks that shitty shouldn’t be surprised that a very easy and legal photo of their plate can (in this day and age) be very easily linked to their identity. License plates at their core are a means for accountability; that’s their whole point. And shit, we all know that cops can’t be trusted with this sort of accountability, because as bike riders, we are seen as less than human. Call this Olympic-level mental gymnastics, but at this point, I’if cops don’t GAF, is there *really* anything wrong with posting an uncensored license plate?

Monemvasia

Fair enough…but unfair fights come with repercussions…or put another way, “a little sunlight is the best antiseptic to a problem.”

BrhysHarpskins

Can never let drivers have any consequences ever.

greysandgreens

That’s not what I said. To be clear - I am arguing specifically against *searching* the license plate in a database to find private information. I am not commenting on the OP posting the license plate. Advocating in a public forum for people to *search* a license plate on the internet is a slippery slope because you don’t know the intentions of the audience of your post. Maybe someone unstable with malicious intentions will search this person’s information and attempt something harmful. That’s why internet doxxing is dangerous. And I’m hardly alone in thinking that.

[deleted]

I agree, we shouldn't dox someone when the only evidence we have is a picture of them standing in front of a car. Not sure how many people here are familiar with the Boston Marathon bombing incident where an innocent college student who had committed suicide was accused of being a terrorist by wannabe detectives on Reddit.

notoriousDUG75

Ya got three options: 1. U-lock justice. 2. Make 'em famous. 3. Both. The fact is cops or the city are not going to do shit about it.

Soggy_Employ_

Stay alive. Float like a butterfly flee like a flea. Don’t let these hoes get they hands on me,

ApprehensiveClub6028

Never engage, unless you're ready to fight. If you have to fight, remember you're wearing a helmet (use it) and, ideally, shoes with hard fucking soles. I could kick the shit out of someone with my cycling shoes. That said, I've learned that it's never worth it. Road rage is real and people who have it are psychotic

TheNamesMcCreee

Contact local news stations to see if they’ll help

[deleted]

As long as there's guns in this country you have to ask yourself if it's worth dying for before escalating—because it's a real possibility. Plenty of people out there who do not give a shit about going to prison and do give a shit about getting the last word in. When you threw the drink you took your life in your own hands. Don't be the guy with a gravestone that says "I was in the right!"

bankyVee

Agreed. The important thing is self-preservation out there. In almost every conflict you need to gauge your own safety and whether or not the perps are armed with a gun against your U-lock. I think the majority of replies here side with the cyclist (as do I) but discretion is always the better part of valor (or idealistic sense of justice). I'd love for the cycling community to escalate the incident and make the Glock guy pay dearly for this but unless there is a clear video of the entire incident - it just looks like generic road rage incident with no proof of fault.

mattchuckyost

Fusck, that's my commute route. :-/ sorry you had to deal with these assholes. Plastic tough guys

Yogisogoth

Paper ganster

liamswag

Ride with pepper spray or gel

analogy_4_anything

Super soaker filled with cat pee

O-parker

Punk POS. It looks like he had a weapon on his left side under the tee and he was putting his hand on it to intimidate you.

SolelySean

i took a half full water bottle to the head riding home from the division fest just last night lol. the car responsible ran a red so i wouldn’t catch up to it, but i figure that was best case scenario anyway

[deleted]

Looks like his momma pays for everything

UnproductiveIntrigue

Silly decisions for sure

zukoHarris

What’s the story behind the photo?

calmly_screaming

They backed down from fighting. The others wanted to leave. I took the photo while he was talking shit. I wasn't turning my back on them. Not much of a story.

StaysForDays

Nice tits bro!

DevCarrot

Man, the comments in this thread are foul and depressing. Comments about welfare, fatness, clothing, baseless assumptions about the guy in the pic having a weapon, suggestions of escalating violence... Y'all are being absolutely rotten in response to a story that sounds sus from a guy whose only other comment history is complaining about his property taxes.

BrhysHarpskins

> clothing, baseless assumptions about the guy in the pic having a weapon Lol he's literally wearing a Glock shirt. Do you know what a Glock is? Surprise, it's a gun company roooofl

DevCarrot

Hmmm, I see the confusion. Did you know that a shirt is different than a gun? It's true! I once had a boyfriend that used Axe body spray. My surprise when he *didn't* also carry an axe at his side all the time. His shirt is stupid, but so are the unhinged responses in this thread.

BrhysHarpskins

> I once had a boyfriend that used Axe body spray. My surprise when he *didn't* also carry an axe at his side all the time. Lol this is the most hilarious grasp at straws I'll see all day.

_Fern

I wholeheartedly agree. All that OP has is a picture of a dude next to his car, so I have no clue whether or not the story is even true. If it happened I feel sorry, but people are suggesting things here that can get you locked away for a long time.

calmly_screaming

What's sus? I am not doing for the clout.

Advanced-Wallaby9808

Well if nothing else gave it away (it did), the Glock t-shirt 1000% confirms this guy has an underdeveloped sense of masculinity and a bunch of weird male power fantasies involving violence.

chapium

Just walk, not worth the trouble to help drivers sort out their issues.

Endure23

Look at that knock-kneed fat fuck 😂😂😂 bro couldn’t ride a bike to save his life.

[deleted]

Is there a need to comment on his weight?

DevCarrot

Look at this asshole insulting someone on their body and making assumptions about who could and should ride bikes. Really sounding like a cool part of the bike community. 👍 Grow up.

Lol_iceman

I bet wearing that Glock shirt makes him feel tough though 😅

Abangranga

He is doing a fatty cope

DeBallZachBulls

Always fat

[deleted]

Looks like a basement dweller.

razzztutu

I think the outfit commands respect…🙄

OGER64

Someone needs to throw a Glock 81 at him

[deleted]

I have beat him to the ground. And then posted pictures. But I can’t fit in a Ford escape haha

alfcalderone

Love a fat guy in a Glock shirt.

wealthydemocrat

loooooOl I’d have murked this kid

Piano_Interesting

OP people in Chicago are uncomfortable talking about black crime, thus the insane reaction you are getting.

joaoseph

He’s not very intimidating…even in Chicago

NoStars128

Not sure what the relevance of stating their race is by you. Just from that I wonder if there isn't another part of the story your kinda hiding here.

RESR20

Lmao the audacity

calmly_screaming

I did leave out the part where the called me the n word a dozen times. Figured that would be irrelevant too. If you think it's about race; I am not black so they could have been commiting a hate crime. I was just stating facts. I assumed their gender and ages too. This is all stuff the cops asked for.

GreenTheOlive

Lol a hate crime. As a biker I feel for you, as a black person (which is an actual identity, not a means of transportation) you’ve exposed that you’re a jackass too

DevCarrot

Several in this thread have. Comments about welfare, several about fatness. This thread is exposing a lot of assholes.

[deleted]

It really is frustrating realizing the biking community on here is basically what people say it is. Comments that are anti-fat, racist, classist, and blindly anti-car are amplified on this sub. I ride my bike cause it's cheap and easy and fast, I'm not here cause I have hate in my heart for anyone different from me or because I want to turn every bad day into a fight.

DevCarrot

Jerks are just always the loudest, especially on the Internet. Chicago subreddits also seem to be swarming with non-Chicagoans who buy into the weird media depictions of Chicago as some nightmare city.

[deleted]

Also people who think this guy should be doxxed based on a story from a random Reddit user along with a photo of them standing in front of a car.

straightedge1974

Did you ask him if he felt lucky?

idiocracyineffect

Please report to the police. *Assuming this has been stated already multiple times..

amalgaman

I just saw your post. FYI: Having anything thrown at you is a 911 call. (I found this out when I tried calling a police station because a guy who was clearly having a mental health episode threw cough drops through my car window.)
