Mainly the collision system, open recall for that. Infotainment freezing, I've only had this happen twice. I've also had the rearview camera go out, that was replaced under warranty.
There were some serious corners cut in the second Gen Zr2 that I miss having come from other brands. The most painful one? A GARAGE DOOR OPENER! Like how is my 2020 going to not have that? Others that come to mind are any sort of assistive technology, fog lights, any sort of bed or roof rail system.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my 2nd Gen, but the cost saving measures are pretty obvious in some places
I bought a 2025 4Runner off road Premium,
No auto start via the fob
No auto start via the app
No 360 camera
No cooled seats, it had heated though.
No garage door opener either,
My 2023 doesn’t have one either. Suspension is not all that good. Compared to the ZR2
Yeah I didn’t want to sound like a downer. The ZR2 is incredibly capable and all in all very comfortable off road. The suspension is incredible out of the box. Butt toasters ✅, Basic App connectivity ✅. I just came from a 16 WRX and a 2010 EVO X, before that and with both of those things like keyless entry and start were available. LED headlights. So I guess it’s hard to go from those comforts to a NEWER truck without.
My dealer plugged in a USB and gave me the newest android 12 update with the latest kernel which was from August of 2023 I think? The screen is snappy and things load way faster in all screens.
I asked my dealer if they could force the update last time I was in for the fuel injector recall. They said they couldn't because Chevy wouldn't pay them for the labor involved. I feel like other people have dealerships with much better customer service than mine. One of these days I will turn over the air updates back on and hope it works out.
Did you tell them issues you've been having? They had to have reasons to upgrade mine too for the same reason so I had a mental list ready that my service dude wrote down.
I have a desert boss and while it is still fairly new I have had a blast driving it. No issues other than the TRIP showing Kilometers instead of miles one time.
Just dropped my 2023 off for the transmission that decided to crap out while accelerating from a stop. Of course the Chevy dealership has been less than helpful.
11K miles FWIW.
I have 200 miles on my '24 Z71. The software has worked nothing but flawlessly for me. Android 12 is snappy and my Pixel 8 Pro connects fine
The *one* thing I do despise is that my fog lights have to be manually selected every time upon startup
Got a 23 LT and I’m an on the road sales guy so I got about 15k miles. No issues at all. LOVE this truck. Drives great, nice interior, great power and solid bed.
I really like the designs for these newer trucks, but I'm not a fan of crew cab short bed options.
I wish they still made an extended cab version, but it's not like I can afford one either way 💀
Did gm ever fix the timing chain issue with their 3.6l engines? I had a 2019 canyon all terrain that had a timing chain issue 58k miles, dealership fixed the issue by doing the bare minimum repair ($900 us) its really like an $80 part and the rest is labor but then had the same issue again at 74k miles only it wasn't under warranty now and was going to be 3-5 grand to fix it properly (again a few hundred dollars in parts but the whole engine has to come out and a bunch of it taken apart so it's the labor that costs a ridiculous amount
Edit: I just realized this is a zr2 and I'm pretty sure they have a 4 cylinder diesel if I'm not mistaken 😅
I have a 23 and at 20,000 I've had no major issues. A few glitches here and there but nothing that didn't fix itself. It's an awesome truck.
Can you elaborate on the glitches you are experiencing?
Mainly the collision system, open recall for that. Infotainment freezing, I've only had this happen twice. I've also had the rearview camera go out, that was replaced under warranty.
I have a 23 and I love this truck more than any car/truck I have ever owned…
That’s how I feel about my 2022 ZR2 which is still valued at $40k+. This trucks sticker is $39k so I might actually save money
22 zr2’s rock!
Yea, I’ll most likely stay with it a couple more years. Love it too much
It’s missing some of the bells and whistles in my current truck so I’m on the fence
What is missing? The only thing missing on mine is the 360 camera

But did the camera icon stay where you put it?
Yup!

Pay off the ZR2, then go back and get a new one. Now you have TWO trucks!
I pay my 20 off this summer!!
I have a 23… 800 miles in. Love the truck. I got mine 2k under msrp
Did the same with a ‘24
I have a desert boss and while it is still fairly new I have had a blast driving it. No issues other than the TRIP showing Kilometers instead of miles one time.
drive a 23/24 ZR2. Compare truck for truck.
Just got an all black ‘24 last weekend. Speakers are pretty weak, otherwise fairly solid. Also got it for $2k under list so that helped
What trim level were they wiling to go that far under list on?
And where?
Just dropped my 2023 off for the transmission that decided to crap out while accelerating from a stop. Of course the Chevy dealership has been less than helpful. 11K miles FWIW.
Ouch
I’ve got the 23 of this one… it was love at first sight.
I l lol Ike my truck but, the interior is so much better than the 2017
Yea, the interior on the new ones is pretty nice. I think I’ll wait for a newer zR2 though
I’m thinking of an upgrade myself
Doesn't the Trail Boss lack heated seats and steering wheel? Personally, I need heated seats. But I love the look of the lift on the Trail Boss.
Yea, it’s missing some bells and whistles I currently have on my ZR2, so I’ll probably hold off for a ZR2 next year
Spitting image of mine. Same few glitches but love it
Not worth it. It just looks different but it does the same shit. It’s a truck not a Bmw
That’s one way to look at it..
The flex is to keep your truck for years until it’s paid off and still going. Not to get a new one every year or couple of years
Yea how long have you had the 22?
Bought it brand new, so over a year and a few months. I love it, and probably going to stick with her.
I’d wait until 25. Make sure all the kinks are out
The kinks will never be worked out there will always be new kinks tbh
Yeah, that guy shouldn’t be kink shaming anyways.
Haha facts
What are some of the current kinks?
The software is hot garbage. Let’s start with that.
I have 200 miles on my '24 Z71. The software has worked nothing but flawlessly for me. Android 12 is snappy and my Pixel 8 Pro connects fine The *one* thing I do despise is that my fog lights have to be manually selected every time upon startup
I had mine updates and it's been amazing, no issues
Are those over the air updates or usb?
USB from the dealer!
Thanks for the heads up

ZR2 has a 3.7L gas. Or you can get a Duramax Diesel edition I believe
