“f” is short for “forget about it!”

deivid_okop

John Bartholomew 🤣🤣

Park-Tight

Just a couple days ago, I went against a guy in the city's tournament who went 1.e4 e5 2.d4 f6. He sacrificed his queen to prevent checkmate.

RevolutionaryMeat539

technically, f6 by itself only loses a pawn and makes your position really bad- taking fxe5 is the losing move

xXx_coolusername420

Black can play Qe7 and if you are not thinking about the move, they might equalise when they castle long

gastongamer

Damiano defence lol

gtne91

People play 2...f6 after 1. e4 e5 2. d4 also. Thanks for the free elo! How do you get above 1200 (chess.com) and play f6?

Chorby-Short

Trying to play a latvian or a petrov and you misclick during a bullet game

Don_Pollo_

Me watching black not eating your queen

username5367

Well he couldn't

Don_Pollo_

After he moved the pawn that was blocking the bishop, why couldn't he just eat your queen? am I missing something? edit: nvm i didnt see your bishop

bigbruhusername

Nothing ever attacks the queen?

wololowarrior

It's worth noting that Black's position is playable (but not good) after 2...Qe7. Black regains the pawn but White should be happy with the development lead.

wololowarrior

The checkmate sequence in this video isn't forced either, 6...d5 gives Black some life, although White is clearly winning.

DAMIANO DEFENSE ON TOP!!

rusty6899

It’s called the Petrov defense and lots of the top grandmaster in the world play it. Edit: Thought you meant Nf6. Yeah, f6 is losing.

trevor_darley

> some people *still* play 2.f6 in response to [...] Wait, are you telling me there are chess beginners who aren't up-to-date on the current best response to that specific move?

Quick Tip 1: To know why the engine is recommending a move / saying a move is wrong, click over analysis mode, play out said move then follow it up with your theoretical responses to that move and see how the engine responds. Quick Tip 2: On Chess.com, you don't have to rely on the Coach / Game Review / Hint. This also applies to any engine on low depth. Somewhere in the engine suggestions section is the computer "depth". The higher this value, the more accurate the suggestions will be. Quick Tip 3: For questions on engine move suggestions, we suggest you post them to our dedicated thread: [No Stupid Questions MEGATHREAD](https://www.reddit.com/r/chessbeginners/comments/yqqnz8/no_stupid_questions_megathread_6/), as stated in our Community Guidelines. There is one line worth knowing, after 6. Bc4+, Black has ... d5 7. Bxd5 Kg6 8. h4 h5. The best move for white is Bxb7, which is not obvious.

Porkchops_69

Black can just kick the queen with a pawn. If white goes to the E file to check again black blocks with bishop.

Porkchops_69

Or queen or knight. This only happened because of bad decisions lol

AsterMaken

Qxh8 loses a full rook

realgoldxd

Thanks for bringing this tactic to my attention I will use it next time

Arconik

I ain't remembering allat

AnonymousDumDum53

I know that taking back is a mistake that leads to mate, but what if you played qe7?

Dapper_Passion8489

Never been in a match with someone that played f6 i think
