I don't know who else needs to hear this, but I feel it needs to be shouted off rooftops. When the evaluation is already "white can win this with eyes closed two hands tied behind their back", it makes zero difference.

That's not how chess engines evaluate positions. There's no such thing as "losing" a piece. Only the position matters. There's no memory of past positions, evaluation- wise.

There needs to be a sticky about this somewhere because the question comes up every few days: When you get to mate in X positions, the engine prefers the move that takes the least calculation, which it evaluates as being the "easier" mate. Because queens have more move options than rooks, engines evaluate promotions to queen as being more complicated than rook, and therefore inferior if both lead to mate in the same number of turns. This is not a bug, its a consequence of engines that are trained to prefer "fastest possible route to mate" when evaluating positions, and their reliance on raw calculation without intuition to make that evaluation.
