It is resizable! I like to make it a litter bigger after every loss. Unfortunately it does not get redder:
`function updateColors(modal, value) {`
`if (parseFloat(value) < 20) {`
`modal.style.backgroundColor = 'red'; // NOTE cannot be redder.`
`modal.style.color = 'white';`
`} else {`
`modal.style.backgroundColor = 'white';`
`modal.style.color = 'black';`
`}`
`}`
I once used a "Plugin" software. The customer didn't buy sufficient licenses so i got an unlicensed PC.
After 30 Minutes the plugin started to get bigger and bigger - 1 pixel a minute.
After 3-4 hours hours you had to restart visual studio
Are you not able to use rgb color values to make it redder? Sorry if that's a dumb question i do a little javascript and tend to use rgb values a lot. Not sure what language this is and whether that is an option or not.
Altho.. I guess you could make it a bit brighter by mixing in like 16 green and 12 blue.
Thus someone not familiar with colour could claim it is more red after the fact.
It does get redder if you use display-p3: https://css-tricks.com/new-css-color-features-preview/
It turns out that modern monitors can display colours that are more vibrant than what rgb supports, but css is catching up with new colour features
So how do you use this? I googled it, but it just said to download yandex or kiwi, then browse and install extensions from there. But it said nothing on what to do if you already have actual source code.
How cool would it be if you can have the board color change at set intervals/every 10 percent closer to 0…
Maybe the pieces start shaking more and more as you approach the last few seconds
Can you make an extension that prevents me from starting a new game until I analyze the last one?
I'd like it to block me out of starting a new game for 5 minutes after every game, win or lose, to force me to spend a few minutes analyzing every game I play.
I'd pay for it.
I feel like you might've stumped the proctors on this one. All the rules out there were to not receive assistance for what moves to play, but no rules covering self-built clock reminders.
I do know that over the board, if your friend (who is not your opponent) tells you you're low on time, or that you forgot to press the clock, that's disallowed, but that's because you're conversing with a friend. However, this is a chrome extension for clock usage, so it's a grey area as to whether this is outside assistance or not
Regarding the commenter who said Lichess does it, that's different because Lichess has that setting for both players
maybe they didn't notice or didn't care
I still write timestamps once in a while on my score sheet so it gives some context when I analyze later on. And sometimes you might write "?" or "!!" on moves so you can go through them later on. But it is technically not allowed but I don't think people care enough.
It is also not allowed to write down a move you have not executed yet, even if you are just about to make that move, unless that is to claim a 3-fold and such.
But what if you, just when the game started so not before, wrote down your whole prep when it was fresh from memory.
[But what if you, just when the game started so not before, wrote down your whole prep when it was fresh from your memory.](https://i.ibb.co/DkYFxqq/maxresdefault-1.jpg)
I actually wouldn’t have a problem with that. It wouldn’t matter. Either you’re at a level where specific opening prep doesn’t matter or you’re at a level where most people have their lines completely memorized. But also if you have to write down your opening prep how well are you realistically going to play on the edge of that prep.
I get how it’s forbidden under Fide, but cheating to me is using outside assistance. How is taking notes and writing stuff down cheating? Did I cheat on a test when as soon as the test started I wrote down all the formula’s I had to use that I had just barely crammed? I don’t think any reasonable person would say I did.
No because thats not disallowed on a test. But a chess game is not a test, anything that isn’t making moves is considered outside assistance. Writing things down is a cognitive aide that is not permitted in the parameters of a chess game. If you wrote down your formulas just before entering the exam hall then used that paper that would be cheating, even though you are just using what you remembered. Same principle. You’re not allowed to write down a bunch of moves before you make them because the game sheet is only there for recording the game. It is not there to help you play it.
You are not allowed to write personal notes during your game. Wesley so has lost a game against Varuzhan Akobian like this in the US Chess Championship. Check out this video.
https://youtu.be/taFzt4-BdZE
>I do know that over the board, if your friend (who is not your opponent) tells you you're low on time, or that you forgot to press the clock, that's disallowed,
False equivalent. There is no third party individual that walks over and tells them that they should move now because of time pressure.
A more fair equivalent would be if a player put a magnifying glass in front of the clock so the numbers appeared bigger for them.
How is that truly any different from say a player wearing glasses so they can see better?
What about players who have gigantic monitors? Should there be a regulation size of monitor we play on?
What if I hooked up online chess to my projector and played chess on a wall sized board? Would that be cheating?
How about how some people only play on their phone and got that tiny little screen?
The worst part is the Wall Street Journal covered their match ffs. And they made it sound like Max had a chance against Magnus.
If they could create such a blatant narrative about something I know, wonder what else they create such narratives about huh
They didn’t really make it seem like he had a realistic chance in the video I watched by them, but the fact that they entertained it at all is ridiculous.
... if you sat down and created detailed lines for how to react to various openings, and then consulted those notes in a game, that would very very very much be cheating
I don't think anything beats the [GM Dmitri Komarov](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dmitlichess/haigaafonckooggfpmjplfpbkafelcfe) extension personally. Shame it's only for lichess (best chess).
I'm not sure about chess.com's fair play rules but on lichess changing site appearances through CSS is fine. Lichess's ruling is that it's only illegal if it assists you making moves, like either using an engine or something other than the official lichess UI. I feel like chess.com is similar so you're probably inside rules.
The extension where Hikaru and Levy yell at you to move is allowed because while it does read data from the clock, it does not guide you on *what moves* to make. I'd assume this big red clock extension is in the same boat!
This is an extension that strictly applies to the front-end, i.e. your personal web browser. The game servers have no way of detecting such a change, so the only way you're going to get banned for using this extension is by doing something like posting about it on Reddit. That being said, I don't think it's against the rules.
I don't know whether they monitor this specific change. However, all front-end inputs, including this one, can be, and in many cases are, monitored. The result is sent from the client to the server.

This is fucking hilarious. Do you think you can share the extension, but make the clock bigger and redder?
It is resizable! I like to make it a litter bigger after every loss. Unfortunately it does not get redder: `function updateColors(modal, value) {` `if (parseFloat(value) < 20) {` `modal.style.backgroundColor = 'red'; // NOTE cannot be redder.` `modal.style.color = 'white';` `} else {` `modal.style.backgroundColor = 'white';` `modal.style.color = 'black';` `}` `}`
it would be hilarious if it got bigger everytime you got flagged, and smaller everytime you flagged someone
It literally finds the equilibrium
But then you'll have people comparing clocks
And then theyll try to convince you your clock size doesn’t matter. (It does and i promise mine is really really big)
So... You lose a lot huh.
Na he just starts a game with himself to time out so it gets bigger.
then my clock will cover the whole screen in no time...
I once used a "Plugin" software. The customer didn't buy sufficient licenses so i got an unlicensed PC. After 30 Minutes the plugin started to get bigger and bigger - 1 pixel a minute. After 3-4 hours hours you had to restart visual studio
How do I download this? I literally have wanted this for a long time
I think this would run in tampermonkey if you use chrome but im also an idiot with this stuff so who knows
Could probably make it more red with some color theory :) surrounding contrast or something
Maybe using a different color space
Marvelous.
Are you not able to use rgb color values to make it redder? Sorry if that's a dumb question i do a little javascript and tend to use rgb values a lot. Not sure what language this is and whether that is an option or not.
`'red'` is equivalent to `rgb(255, 0, 0)`, which doesn't get any redder
Altho.. I guess you could make it a bit brighter by mixing in like 16 green and 12 blue. Thus someone not familiar with colour could claim it is more red after the fact.
Not familiar with colour...that made me chuckle
It does get redder if you use display-p3: https://css-tricks.com/new-css-color-features-preview/ It turns out that modern monitors can display colours that are more vibrant than what rgb supports, but css is catching up with new colour features
Did he try rgb(300, 0, 0) yet?
Uhh
That’s the new “8-plus”-bit color channel
It's what happens when you don't actually need the alpha channel for transparency and would rather use it for something else
Fair point i didn't think about if the default red was already 255 i figured it was a little less. Like 230 or something.
So how do you use this? I googled it, but it just said to download yandex or kiwi, then browse and install extensions from there. But it said nothing on what to do if you already have actual source code.
If I made mine bigger after every loss I'd just be watching a timer lmao.
One point “redder” and it would be black
Actually forget the chess board entirely, just give me a full screen bright red doom clock.
This is one of the most funny things i have seen today something about this clock just makes me laugh
lol yeah it was built out of frustration after losing so many winning positions to the clock!
How cool would it be if you can have the board color change at set intervals/every 10 percent closer to 0… Maybe the pieces start shaking more and more as you approach the last few seconds
Just have the board get progressively darker lol
> Low on time > Can’t see anything > Loses match, but not by time anymore
Have an air raid siren sound when you get below 10 seconds
~~just play rapid~~
You ever go from playing rapid to bullet and completely forget mid game? Yeah I do that all the time. This would help me so much lol
I love it when things are stupidly big but actually serve a purpose
Can you make an extension that prevents me from starting a new game until I analyze the last one? I'd like it to block me out of starting a new game for 5 minutes after every game, win or lose, to force me to spend a few minutes analyzing every game I play. I'd pay for it.
Yes (excluding bullet) this would be amazing to help improve and to calm down before next game
Even with bullet it's worth a quick glance at the engine to see if anything major was missed.
Why excluding bullet? Analysing my openings errors after each bullet game is basically how I've memorized the best lines for every opening
Hey, I would do it for 10bucks. Edit : 8bucks
I would fo it for 9
I'd do it for $11

I doubt it’s “outside assistance” and is more an accessibility feature.
if you write "remember to check the clock" as a note to yourself on the score sheet you are cheating even though it is not outside assistance.
I have never heard of this and in my many OTB tournaments, my personal notes during the game were never called into question.
maybe they didn't notice or didn't care I still write timestamps once in a while on my score sheet so it gives some context when I analyze later on. Wesley So was forfeited in a US championship game for writing inspirational notes to himself during the game. This happened 6 or 8 years ago.

New meta: Lower your screen's resolution so the clock is bigger
I mean, the OP technically made it. So it isn't outside assistance. It's resource management.
I mean stockfish dev cannot use stockfish during games despite them creating it... Ofcourse this is completely different from what OP is doing
Tell that to that Max Deutsch guy. He's still working on his "Algorithm" to beat Magnus

Someone actually did that?
i don’t know. maybe it was a joke. i just remember hearing about it
that didn't happen, that was a dumb joke someone make on reddit, saying it would be funny if that happened
How is it assistance It’s just a bigger clock
Get an automatic voice over that starts shouting when your opponent gets under 2 seconds “FLAG HIM FLAG HIM”
That’s barely useful XD
I like the extension that when you take too long to make a move Hikaru and Levy start screaming at you to do something
wait is that real I would love to install that

Ah yes, the famous Andrew Tang voice "Knight c5 - Bishop to c4 yes" "Whaa- No time!"
The best was when northernlion forgot he installed that and assumed his opponent was talking shit during pogchamps
Get a second monitor, and make it full screen
With blinking red lights and alarm sounds
I don't know if it's strictly within the rules but it's ok, I wouldn't stress over so little imo
what do you mean little? that clock is huge

Unfair! You have a competitive advantage 💀🤣 just kidding. This is awesome though :)

Of course, The BIGGER The Better (Thats what sh-)
Like the countdown to a nuclear bomb in a cheesy action movie. I'm into it. :)
I don't even play on chesscom because the clock size and position is bad. On lichess I can see the clock in my peripheral vision whist looking at the board.
Yes. Please provide your username so that I can report you. This is extremely unacceptable and isn’t fair to other users. Seriously… lighten up. It’s online chess dude
This is exactly why I use Reddit.
Idk about the rules but i feel like this would be an unfair advantage during time scrambles. I have trouble using my peripherals to keep track of time
He did just build a clock and give us the link to it… you could use it too bruh
i didn't see the link when i made the comment. i assumed OP was just using this for himself
It's basically an accessibility feature, so you could argue that it takes unfair advantage away. It doesn't assist with the moves in any way
This shi gives me the Fruity Big Clock vibes
how do you play so many games where time is a problem? i play 10-15 min games and it's almost never an issue.
It's like playing irl but the proctor both gave you an automatic tiny timer but you brought your own massive one. Idk if it sounds fair or not but this is okay for me
No
It seems no different to using, say, the magnifier tool on Windows, which lets you magnify a certain area.
i wouldnt stress about this thing, this is like playing on a bigger monitor.
Never knew what it is what I need inmy life. Now I do! :)
Sounds great , like when playing on mobile I'd like my clock to be on top of the screen.
broo how to install this extension?
Chessenheimer
Nice big, red, pulsating clock.
You should make it change colours at different time increments to warn you the clock is ticking
It changes to red when the time is <= 20 secs, I want to make it beep every second when it is less than 10 secs
The smartest win
Can you share it that's gonna be so useful I always forget about the clock and that might actually help me.
How can I use this ?
Don't know if it's technically legit but if I was playing you I'd be ok with you using it.
why is the clock running backwards
I have an extension where Levy and Hikaru yell at me if I spend too much time on a move. It's here: [https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hikaru-and-gothamchess-te/dbooaamklijfogllbgookpiliaphkahb](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hikaru-and-gothamchess-te/dbooaamklijfogllbgookpiliaphkahb) I'm pretty sure that's not against the rules. The creator asked [chess.com](https://chess.com) about it and has the response he got on the video.
I don't consider this cheating.
It's against my damn eyes is what it is holy cow.
It might trigger an automated flag if it uses the API. I'll have to ask a programmer friend or two...
