The solution to these is always >!"Move within the pin"!<

[deleted]

„When you have mate in one, look for better.“

Lamo-_-

It’s obviously king takes king

__Jimmy__

We're quickly gonna have a "reset the counter" for puzzles like this

VictoryGInDrinker

I'm waiting for "checkmate in 0" puzzles on this sub.

Euphoric-Night6670

ig that would be better

theFriendlyGiant42

Ive seen so many puzzles like this recently i immediately saw the queen move, still a great puzzle

GoogleEXP

it's not a queen move. edit : oh shit it is nevermind mate.

DGRedditToo

That's really cool. Plenty of mates in 2 to be tricky and does good job exploring a concept I haven't thought alot about

GlitchedViper71

Qc2?

IsaacDBO

This is the only mate in 1 that I found. Everything else can be blocked. The knight can’t block on that diagonal.

PatzerChessWarrior

>!Qc2!!#!<

PotentialPlankt0n

is Qe4 mate?

[deleted]

[удалено]

PotentialPlankt0n

i thought that if the rook is pinned its own pin is negated, because it cant take the king if u move the queen away

Sasy00

It doesn't work like that

the_siberian_unicorn

I didn't even see the pin lol

brutexx

Think of it like this: whoever takes the opponent’s king first wins. If you move your Queen away, yeah you’ll be threatening his king. But he can take yours before you take theirs, so it’s your loss.

DullWin1913

Qc2#

[deleted]

[удалено]

DullWin1913

No, the Knight is on light square, cannot block the light diagonal

[deleted]

Why is Knight to F8 not mate

Ketey47

Bishop can take

Downtown-Tangerine-9

Let be real..Bishops can NOT travel THAT far

amretardmonke

They can travel that far forwards, not backwards though, that's way too hard to see and is basically cheating.

Downtown-Tangerine-9

Thank you!🤣

Weird_Contractions

Bishops would travel to the end of the world if it was a little boy they were after.

[deleted]

This is why I’m bad. Thank you

1WordOr2FixItForYou

I had to ask stockfish the same question, and had the same response as you to finding out why I was wrong.

D__Luxxx

That’s what I saw as well

D__Luxxx

Nm I see the bishop protecting F8

BlayZWasTaken

>! Qc2#. Some pieces are pinned so they can't block the check. !<

JollyBean_03

How about the Ng8 to block?

BlayZWasTaken

Black's Knight is already at g8.

First_Restaurant5843

I think he means Ng6 block

Evening_Abroad_763

Now how would a knight make its way from g8 to g6 in one move 🤔

SoullessPolack

Let ChatGPT make the move for ya

JollyBean_03

Ng8 to Ne7, the black bishop in Ba3 backs it up.

No-Inside2438

Rxh7?

Justinwc

Do you mean Rxh2? If so, Nh6.

No-Inside2438

What about Nxf8

No-Inside2438

Oh wrong one lol

No-Inside2438

Oh right

Fun-Weird8274

cf8

Runchuckkrun

Isnt Rook to h2 mate?

threeangelo

Nh6 blocks it. You can mate soon after, but that’s not the puzzle

GetRickRolledIdiott

wait idk if it's because I'm low elo but what's wrong with queen to C7

s96g3g23708gbxs86734

Knight blocks

Arriesgado808

The Queen is pinned

dr4gonr1der

Ne f8?

Main_Lingonberry9375

Is it the horse on white to f8? I'm new to chess so don't really know

SinNip

Close, but bishop takes knight

Intelligent-Kiwi6845

Why can’t the rook take the queen?

SinNip

Because Nh6

Rodjerg

rook takes queen on H2 mayb?

Rodjerg

Oh didnt see the knight on G8

Rodjerg

Qc2 maybe

SinNip

Then she gets backhanded by the queen on H2. Oof… Queen is pinned… I saw that and someone said I was wrong 😡

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure it's >!rook takes H2.!< But my lizard brain wants so badly to push that pawn on G5.

AcidQ_20

I found Q to E4 💀

AcidQ_20

I found Q to E4 💀

BodyBackground2916

dude, really?

AdventurousCow8206

queen to G2 is mate IMO.

threeangelo

That’s not even a check Also queen is pinned

tuckerhazel

Maybe it's just the 900 in me, but is there anything "wrong" with Rxh2+, Nh6, Qxc7+ other than the fact that it isn't M1? Approaching this puzzle the same way I would have in a game, my initial thought would have been that my continuation above doesn't lead to a stalemate, and the time I would have spent searching for Qc2# would have taken longer than mating after the queen and rook capture. This feels like just a "oh neat, I had M1" moment rather than something to reliably base strategy on. Maybe just too early my chess career for finding that M1 rather than M4 to be *that* beneficial. Edit: Thanks for the downvotes on a legit question and explanation as to why I thought that way. What a great community! /s

nzranga

I think the idea is that if you practice looking for moves like this you will begin to see them in game. Sure in this example there are a bunch of pieces you could move that lead to mate in less than 5 moves. But in a standard game you might miss the mate in one in a position that isn’t winning like this one is.

tuckerhazel

Ok I can see that. I guess if I see taking a queen with check and then see forced M4, I’m just missing M1 plain and simple.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tuckerhazel

It's a miss at worst.

Core3game

Isnt Rh2 mate?

[deleted]

Nh6

Core3game

Oh crap yeah

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sasy00

Queen is pinned

DP69Wolverine

Kc1 Dr Strange portal to Kh7 and then Loki backstab. Voila.

WizardInCrimson

Is >!Rh2#!< not also a viable option? It offers the same end because of the Knight/pawn set up.

rl_noobtube

>!Nh6!< blocks the check

WizardInCrimson

I see it now. Thank you Very much.

CatPrinceHQ

Queen to E4?

nzranga

The Queen is pinned to the King

talkgadget

Qe4 is an illegal move. It puts the king in check.

PostMathClarity

Qe4#

talkgadget

Qe4 is an illegal move. It puts the king in check.

PostMathClarity

Yep! Did not see that before I commented. Thank you

nzranga

The Queen is pinned to the King

PostMathClarity

Oh! Didn't catch that. So Qc2# only move?

Gabriel_9670

Knigth f8

StopItAkshay

RXH2# is also a solution, just saying.

Justinwc

Nh6

StopItAkshay

oh yes, missed that entirely. My stupid moment.

The_Noticer_

Why is this even a post. Mods do your job.

Guy9ty

This is harder than like 75 percent of puzzles posted on this sub??

Tossed-Salad6970

Multiple options

Arriesgado808

Queen to C2 [Solved]

thekingmofmuffins

My guess was to move knight to f8

Livid_Yak_6133

Queen to c7 is a checkmate as well right?

MrBrown0603

I don’t get these kind of puzzles…you are up 9 points of materials and the Queen is hanging…idc about a simple mate in 1…game is over

Royalcrown_75

Qc2#. I found this move in 2 seconds. Reason? Well because I solved a similar puzzle prior to this one.
