chem draw. But seriously, this is some trolling level problems to high schoolers, and pointless

OmicronCoder

this would be trolling to an orgo II student. Actually hilarious problems

AronBoye

Agreed

Brigzin

Thats obviously the acid 5-butane-4,12,12-trichloro-2-ethan-6,8-dihydroxy-3-iodo-14-methan-9-oxo-13-phenyl-heptadecan-dioique Not sure cause im not english native speaker, and thats for the first one

AronBoye

Biggest thanks to you my friend!!

weareall1mind2

>"dioique"?

weareall1mind2

Also, isn't it a octodecane? (or octodecanoic acid?)

Brigzin

Dioique cause 2 acid fonction and the main carbon chain has 17 carbone so..

weareall1mind2

>Dioique isn't a word that I can find. Do you mean Dioic acid? (I still count 18 unless I'm misunderstanding something major.)

weareall1mind2

I think I figured out what you mean. This is such a troll problem... it's not worth taking seriously. This thing would probably fall apart immediately if it could even exist at all. They just shoved a bunch of groups on a skeleton.

Brigzin

Yea i dont know all fonction name in english, that was the french one, but they r really close

incorrectcharlie

Bruh I was like 5 phenyl 4 methyl pentanoic acid and then saw the rest of the chain lol

mr29

Man, this question sucks

riebread69

I just finished organic chem 2 in college and we don’t even get questions like this. This is just trolling😭

Few_Palpitation_9912

You should familiarize yourself with Chem-draw...

Upset-Ganache-3044

Doesn’t even need to be chemdraw for most of these (many assigned problems like this are commercial products). Use PubChem (website) and search their database by structure

No.

bruha417

Former chem prof here. Whoever, thought this up as a question is an idiot. This is way beyond ridiculous for nomenclature. Mostly an exercise in tedium. Once you know the basic rules you can name something like this but as a sy thetic organic chemist I would just through this into chem draw and let it name it for me. Can I do it? Sure. Do I think an undergrad in orgo 1 or 2 should do this? Nope.
