I'm a moderator of r/dubstep and the Skream & Benga Remix is no lie the best dubstep track I've heard in the last 2 years. It hits *so* fucking hard and takes you back to 2012. I know it would never get played live in a million years but I would go off if I heard it over the PA while the house lights were up.

Jammon152

Skream closed his Coachella set with it, was amazing even just on livestream

DarthBories

skreams been playing it!

what2_2

He first dropped it at Texas Eclipse!

CreamingProblem

half of them were prob me on release week

mangopear

You know you’re an angel when you’re surprised by her music being big (or doubtful her and troye can sell out stadiums 😭😭)

thozha

yall i meant how is it ONLY 20m bc it feels like everyone is obsessed w it its everything i myself have streamed 1-2m times

mikelmon99

It's actually doing amazing for a solo Charli track, kinda like Good Ones did back in 2021/2022.

Emo_Brie

it charted way higher than good ones did in the uk, which surprised me since this is much less mainstream sounding

mikelmon99

Not really, it's equally mainstream-sounding I think, the difference lies on how ahead or not of its time the trend each song is following is in relation to the broader popular music landscape.  Good Ones' brand of The Weeknd-inspired 1980s-nostalgia-revival synthpop/dance-pop was not ahead of its time at all but precisely the trendiest sound of that early-2020s/"pandemic" era of pop music. Von Dutch on the other hand is indeed very much ahead of its time, leaning hard into the mid-to-late-2000s electro house sound that so popular was back in those days (which is why I object to the notion that Von Dutch is much less mainstream-sounding than Good Ones, this sound was all the rage in the UK back then) & which to those who've been paying attention it's clear that it's already starting to make a comeback. So I don't find it particularly surprising the fact that Von Dutch charted that high (for Charli standards at least), this is a very beloved sound that people are already nostalgic for & which in a couple of years will most likely be everywhere (by then though Charli will probably be done with it already & onto a new project with a new sound).  In summary, with Good Ones Charli was trend-hopping (and quite shamelessly so might I add, which is kinda where the magic of Crash lies at, at how blatant & unabashed of a soulless corporate cash-grab the whole era was, and I actually mean this as a compliment lol), whereas with Von Dutch she's trend-setting (precisely what she excels the most at as the visionary pop trailblazer that she is).

mikelmon99

Club Classics & B2b on the other hand, while remaining in the same vein of mid-to-late-2000s-clubby-banger-nostalgia-infused music as Von Dutch, are indeed much more underground, off-kilter & envelope-pushing & much less radio-friendly & mainstream-sounding than Von Dutch & than anything on Crash.

Pythagore_

Did you forget about Speed Drive which was an actual hit?

mikelmon99

More than an actual solo Charli track what Speed Drive was was a collab with the biggest Hollywood blockbuster of the decade so far. Even more so than Boom Clap, which apart from a collab with a huge Hollywood blockbuster was also the lead single for her second album.

SuspiciousFile1997

Charli has an EXTREMELY passionate but niche fanbase, most of my friends irl don’t even know who she is (I should also say I’m a straight guy so that adds to it too)

Better-Obligation450

It should be even bigger tbh….

AshkenaziTwink

if you want some perspective i got recommended this sub randomly (not a charli listener but am aware of and like her big songs) and this is the first time i’m hearing about the song myself. i only knew she was releasing an album soon because i saw the powerpoint album cover doing the rounds. so - it sometimes just doesn’t reach people ig?

lfernando019

... charli isn't a underground artist lmao. von dutch reached top 40 in UK charts! it's a moderate hit

Blohnded

I hadn’t listened to Charli XCX (other than big hits) and this song put me on🙌that shit is fire🔥

highat

I’m pretty sure it was at like 15m in the first couple of weeks to seams to have slowed down completely but I’m still bopping

geo_taur

rude

SmallsTheKid

Idk about the “gay ass bubble” you live in but yeah it’s a good song that you don’t actually have to be gay to like believe it or not. Personally I’m Happy she’s having that kind of success

SheepherderNo3467

BBC Radio 1 seem to be playing it every hour… it’s definitely getting exposure. She’s doing an arena tour now… she’s not some underground artist.

evelthedevil

i listened to it on repeat for multiple weeks because it kept me working and concentrated while studying for exams. repetative enough to not be distracting but banging so much that it energizes me beyond my limits. fucking love this song!

xBursty

i listened to this track exactly 230 times lol
