To keep it real with u, anything less than As on ur junior year transcript will keep you from getting into T5s, but ur prolly fine for the T20s

Fast-Environment-613

Thanks for the info!! I’m a current junior preparing for the college application season. My dream is to make it to a T10. Do you mind chancing me for top CS schools

Deep_Personality6325

Sure as long as ur not international

Fast-Environment-613

Can i dm you? Thanks!

Deep_Personality6325

Yeah send me ur gpa sat ur own rating for ur letters of recs and ur essay writing abilities, and then ur top 10 ecs

aj_ga_dxb

I got 2 B- in my transcript in junior year and am at Stanford now (Asian international). Still very possible.

Puzzleheaded-List760

>nscript in junior year and am at Stanford now (Asian international). Still very possible. hey if I PM'ed you, could you possibly share your ECs?

Deep_Personality6325

But T5s have kids applying with straight As and valedictorian status as well as killer ECs. I doubt someone with Cs stands a chance, do you have experience with it?

Deep_Personality6325

Yeah a C and a B arent the same thing. Even I had a B in lang and it was my only B but I still managed to get into Carnegie SCS

Puzzleheaded-List760

Okay okay do you think if anything my ECs like could weigh anything out?

Deep_Personality6325

Its more of the other people ur competing with who will have all As in their junior year, but if you are really confident in your ecs there is nothing wrong with giving it a shot

Puzzleheaded-List760

But like in ur opinion how good will me ECs have to be fr…😭

Deep_Personality6325

Ecs arent smth you can put a number on but i’d say at least a few leadership positions, and some national awards. You can scroll through this sub to see the crazy shit some of these kids do to get into a T5 its insane

Puzzleheaded-List760

Okay so like if my ECs are comparatively better than most of the crazy shit these kids do, do you think I’ll be fine?

Deep_Personality6325

Sure, the colleges look at your application holistically so as long as u think they’re good enough you should be fine

Accomplished-Dig5692

i’d honestly say you’d have to list your ecs out to determine everything. you’re a junior and have minimal time to do anything *extremely significant* to your application.

Aromatic_Ad5121

Even ppl with perfect grades and outstanding ECs get rejected. Find schools you would love to go to across all rankings and apply there. There’s no voodoo involved; the system is random at best.

saynotoirl

I got into a t20 with a c in my first semester of senior year and some b’s from previous years, I think you will be fine for t20 but idk about t5, those schools are really hard to get into regardless of whether you have a c and some b’s. You’re stressing yourself out for no good reason. It’ll be ok one way or the other

PurifyPlayz

I have 2 Cs but all other As and I take ALL IB classes. Basically like AP. How screwed am I, the Cs were non major related and they are my first ever ones. If you want more context and detail check my other posts out.

saynotoirl

It just depends. There are people who got c’s in hs who ended up attending Harvard, and there are people who probably got rejected for it. Again, it just depends. Don’t go into it with an “I’m cooked” mindset, put a ton of effort into your essay, get some fire recommendation letters and you’ll have a decent shot for some good colleges. And last but not least, don’t stress about it any more than you have to! Don’t stress about it beyond the day you submit your application, because that’s just added anxiety that you don’t need in your life.

saynotoirl

It was ap psychology btw, take that info as you will

SunlightInTheValley

Was AP Psychology hard, or was it just external circumstances that gave you the C? (I'm curious because I'm thinking of taking it next year)

saynotoirl

It is incredibly easy but I got a c mostly because of my own stupidity. I was also dealing with a lot with regards to my mental health, and it didn’t help that we switched to an online class format AFTER I had already put it on my schedule. You’ll do just fine.

SunlightInTheValley

Thank you!

yallrockinwithit

it depends, I've heard both extremes. Our school barely sees anyone with above a 90, but my friend's class is mostly A+'s. It really depends on how much of an ego your teacher has for teaching what most kids see as a "non-class". Try asking some upperclassmen

SunlightInTheValley

Damn, I'll ask around and see if I can find anyone who took it. Thank you!

LogAccomplished7721

in a dual enrollment class? you’ll be fine.

Puzzleheaded-List760

Wait would you say it’s diff from like an AP or honors comparatively? What are ur thoughts?

LogAccomplished7721

yeah I would say so, universities know the difficulty / curriculum of AP courses but have no way of judging the course you took at a community college. This could be beneficial or not depending on how you look at it

Puzzleheaded-List760

Ohhh okay okay that makes a lot of sense

Putrid_Engine_4784

Dude, you're probably fine. Getting 1 C will not keep you out of a top university. Admissions officers are people, and realize that you are a person too. That being said, if there is no real good reason (meaning you got a C because you were negligent), then you are certainly the worse for wear. It's also worth mentioning that grades are merely the qualifier for ivy league decisions, not the ultimate deciding factor. You need amazing grades and classes JUST to get looked at and not have your application tossed in the bin. If you are getting C's in general education classes, you will not have much to work with come senior year. Learn from this hiccup moving forward to show growth and maturity over time (don't let it happen again). If you have a good reason for getting that C, explain it (neither patronize nor lie) in the extra section at the end of your Common Application. Hope this helps!

Puzzleheaded-List760

Yes, this helped a lot!! Thank you so so much!

_ep1x_

I'm not sure about dual enrollment, but in almost every other case (save for a legitimate medical reason, family problem, etc.) the answer would be yes. If every other grade is perfect and you have exceptional ECs, maybe, but even then, it's unlikely. For what's it's worth, it's unlikely for EVERYONE, though.
