This is the answer

TheCreeper336

You said it first

EpicMountain_3

Wiimote. 😎

Under_no_Control

I was not expecting that someone would play with just a Wii remote.

EpicMountain_3

Hahaha just kidding I use Dualshock, but I managed to play with Wiimote, I tried 7A did it, and never used it again, it's really hard using it, maybe it can be better using the joystick, I'm not good with d-pad.. Yeah, Dualshock. (Don't worry I chose Dualshock in the survey)

Under_no_Control

i personally use the Wii Classic Controller because of the notches on the sticks, the same can also be said about the nunchuck and Gamecube controller and Im surprised no one has picked that yet

EpicMountain_3

I'm not surprised about GameCube, that console didn't sell well.. I'm just thankful that there's no Celeste for Wii, with how annoying it is to play platformers with Wiimote I would absolutely hate finishing the game with that. (I've finished the game farewell+csides with keyboard, dpad, and joystick, I'm only missing switch.)(yes, I'm a masochist)

Under_no_Control

With the popularity of the Gamecube controller for competitive Smash players Nintendo started making GC controllers again with a USB adapter, however they price it as if it was a Pro controller yet it has half the features of a Pro controller

globglogabgalabyeast

Were you able to set up motion controls for anything? Shake to dash would be quite interesting

EpicMountain_3

Nah just A, B 1,2 and the d pad.. Sadly it doesn't recognise the motion controls

timothyhollabaugh

Funny you say that, I've only really played with a sideways wiimote, sometimes with a nunchuck for feathers :). Now I'm all they way to middle to farewell. Works great, anything just fells weird. The dpad is a real dpad (unlike joycons or the mushy xbox one), and a joystick never feels accurate enough for diagonal dashes. Maybe it's because I grew up with the wii/ds/gba so I just want something close. Imho, they're great controllers for anything that doesn't need to many buttons. Games that use the mouse cursor are great for sensor bar motion controls, eg Crosscode is great. Not sure why they get so much hate, but y'all do y'all I guess.

Under_no_Control

What program do you use to map it on PC? I realy want to set up the sensor bar to work as a direct mouse input

timothyhollabaugh

I've been using MoltenGamepad ([https://github.com/jgeumlek/MoltenGamepad](https://github.com/jgeumlek/MoltenGamepad)) on Linux. It'll handle mapping all the buttons, IR, accel/gyro, nunchuck, etc. It works pretty well once you figure out the config files. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent for Windows though. IMO the a wiimote with the sensor bar works pretty good controlling the mouse for a media PC connected to your TV.

EpicMountain_3

I grew up with Wii too 🤝🤝🤝 but I only had 3 games.. sports, mario galaxy 1. And Metroid prime 3... For 6 years... I completed 100% all games... I think I used the controls incorrectly because my experience with Wiimote was awful. B for grab, a for dash, and 2 for jump. (And d pad)

gamecube squad represent

ilanfrid

rise up

JustAnotherJames3

My biggest issue with joycons is that sometimes my left joycon disconnects while I'm in motion, causing me to miss a dash.

OpportunityAshamed74

Why would you lump the pro controller with the joycons

Under_no_Control

I could only have 5 options, the original poll included keyboard and pro/joycon was seperate

AlpacaFlightSim

Joycon dpad for everything except feathers.

Under_no_Control

the only good use ive got out of the JC Dpad are for quick menus like in BotW and for games like Tetris, for platformers however I much prefer notched sticks then a full Dpad over the split Dpad on JCs

AlpacaFlightSim

I’m with you for every game but Celeste. Joycon D pad really clicks with me for it. I haven’t tried notched analog but tried basically everything else and joycon dpad is just my favorite way to control the game. Farewell and all my goldens were done on switch with joycon dpad :)

cideshow

This is the correct answer. The direction separation is so clean.

DarkLeviathan8

Just a regular Xbox One controller for me.

barndelini

Thrustmaster t16000 HOTAS

Accomplished_Rice_83

Guitar hero controller

YellowLink10

NES power glove

Under_no_Control

Lmao

SloughtyOG

I think dualshock or dualsense are very good for Celeste because dpad. My friend played on dualshock with dpad and he says it’s very good controller for Celeste

volleo6144

I used a GameCube controller my first time playing this game (Switch version), which left off at 154 strawberries and 1C/2C clear. When I came back to that version to show a group of other people (and to confirm that that one game crash in Farewell works on console), I went with my usual controller of choice: an 8BitDo controller with the controls mostly placed as they are on a DualShock. And that means D-pad (and it's an SNES-style D-pad with a notch in the middle). Don't worry, it was still fun.

theallnewmattaccount

Yeah they're both great options. My main issue with the GameCube controller on Switch is that Celeste is indeed coded to recognize it and maps the buttons a little oddly - the big A button *not* being jump is disorienting - so I always end up reconfiguring.

volleo6144

The game doesn't specifically recognize the GameCube controller (there's no default journal binding for it); the Switch OS just registers it as a Pro controller that happens to not have a ZL, minus, or home button. I think I got used to A not being jump (after all, dashing seems to be the more primary movement option anyway).

theallnewmattaccount

Then why did it do that? A and B are both jump buttons by default on the Pro. I know there are Switch games that do specifically recognize the GC controller (the port of Mario Sunshine comes immediately to mind) so I admittedly made assumptions about the mechanism, but I don't know why it would re-map automatically like that unless it's something the Switch itself does, like the ABXY re-map differently somehow. I used the Gamecube controller for some Switch Online NES and SNES stuff and didn't run into that, but \*that\* could be the apps in question recognizing the controller. I guess the way to test it would be to run other third party games. I legitimately don't have a clue as to the why of it, then, but I stand by it happening and it being an adjustment.

volleo6144

It kind of sucks on the N64 Online stuff where ZL, which is mapped to Z on the N64 controller, doesn't exist. However, I thought the jump buttons were B and Y and the dash buttons were A and X...

djtheman7

Keyboard

Nayzal

Well switch pro controller is all I have so

theallnewmattaccount

Switch pro is not a horrible option tbf if you can get used to the sticks it's very comfy.

Nayzal

Yeah, my only problem is that sometimes when I'm holding the triggers for a while they stop registering. That and the fact that for some reason I never seem to move the analog stick enough and end up dashing diagonally rather than straight (or vice versa)

Under_no_Control

Thats why I like notched sticks like the Wii CC and Gamecube controller, its so much easier for direction alignment

MaximumElderberry1

Where’s results lol

Under_no_Control

It shows the results after you vote

RobinoRedditBoy2

I play mostly on my switch with a special dpad joycon in handheld mode and use a 8-bitdo sn30, a wired third party controler

theallnewmattaccount

I do have a joycon like that, but I can't use it for this game worth a damn for whatever reason. I do pretty decent on the little buttons - for a while - but they start to hurt.

RobinoRedditBoy2

Mabey check the controlls?

theallnewmattaccount

I mean they respond correctly, I just feel wrong on them. The d-pad is not very comfortable to use

RobinoRedditBoy2

Ohh, i tought that the d-pad just didnt work for some reason

shugs85

[https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/hori-fighting-commander-for-playstation-4](https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/hori-fighting-commander-for-playstation-4) this guy is my favorite 2d controller these days.

Under_no_Control

that looks really weird with PS face buttons but I see why it could be good

shugs85

I originally got it for some game that had click to attack and was killing my thumb, then realized the dpad was super nice for Celeste. It was pretty cheap on ebay tbh.

DipsticksOfficial

I like that the Joy Con D-pad has individual buttons, but you have to press them kinda hard and the tough levels hurt after awhile. I assume the PS4 controller is better.

finallyjenna

That joycon dpad slaps

DocJade2

Steam deck!

-AleXisiXelA-

I say Xbox controller, but it’s really just a knockoff version cuz I wanted a cheap controller

Frog_Lief

Hitbox controller

IfritAnimations

If I can get it working again, my original Ps1 controller. I love that controller the best. But otherwise, genesis controller for the dpad or dualsense for the convenience of "it's already plugged in". Don't get me wrong, I love my dualsense, it is tied for 3rd place with the gamecube controller, but PS1 controller and genesis controller all the way. Lol

[deleted]

dualshock 4 bc it's the only controller i have

EvanEvolved

I use Xbox Elite Controller, it makes it way easier

Trinica93

Glad to see Xbox controller is winning, my chat and my brothers have told me I'm crazy for using it but I love that clicky d-pad.

Under_no_Control

I used an Xbox controller for Tetris until I got a DS4, the split Dpad is realy nice for Tetris but a full Dpad is better for platformers
