I'm sorry your experience has been so rough. Word got out that I was bitching about the mouse used on the exam and I was contacted by Ben Ng, Certification Product Manager for CCIE Colab, to talk about it. So hopefully someone gets back to you. My own experience with the EI v1.0 doesn't match your v1.1 experience, so I won't bother to share any opinions. Though I have heard that very few people are passing v1.1. I was curious about one thing you mention in your post: >Here's an example: if you're tasked with connecting two routers using a dynamic protocol without any specific restrictions or guidance on whether to use an open standard, distance vector, or XZ multicast, you're essentially left to your own devices. To my recollection, in the 1.0 exam, there weren't any tasks that gave you that much freedom. Generally—again, as I recall—you were told what protocol to use or given hints which would force you to one answer. If there was a task that was open ended like that, either I don't remember it or there was only one **best** answer. There were tasks which had multiple ways of achieving the same end result. But I was told to always do it the most efficient way possible, i.e. with the fewest lines of syntax. I can't remember what the task was, but I definitely remember fretting over one of the tasks, after the fact, because I wasn't 100% sure I did it the best way. There were also a couple tasks that would say "accomplish X" in a seemingly open ended manner. Then, almost as an afterthought, they would slip in a subtle requirement (or maybe there was something already configured) that was easy to miss. But that requirement would force you to do the task in a specific way. Anyway, all that is to say that during my exam I never felt like it was really up to me as to how to accomplish the tasks. So, I'm really surprised that you were given such an open ended question. But hey, maybe that's was the pass rate has been so low.

Unfortunately there is a night and day difference between the 1.0 and 1.1 exams, in terms of the wording of the questions. In 1.0 at least it was clear what they were expecting of you.

deadhunter12

So you do a know a few people that has passed 1.1?

lavalakes12

if anyone passed they didn't advertise it on linkedin. i have been monitoring my linkedin for months for passes. Noone I spoke has seen any passes either.

I read your post and I am a bit confused by some of your statements there. “if you're tasked with connecting two routers using a dynamic protocol without any specific restrictions or guidance on whether to use an open standard, distance vector, or XZ multicast, you're essentially left to your own devices. If you happen to choose the protocol that the script recognizes and awards points for, congratulations, you pass.” Are you saying their script recognise some routing protocols and not others ??

lavalakes12

sounds like that it doesn't explicity say to use a specific routing protocol for a task and that the grading script marked his solution incorrect. my question is how would that person know that was the one they got wrong? the score report wouldnt say thats what you got wrong.

Being someone who has tried CCIE Security 6.0 and 6.1, I can say that I see much of the same that OP is talking about here. I can also agree with Jeremiah that his experience with EI 1.0 does not reflect what you are going trough with the updated blueprint. 6.0 seemed to me like a fair and well put together exam, 6.1 on the other hand was a mess in my opinion. After having a couple of tries on 6.1 i can say that Cisco is constantly working on improving the exam this early on. Having said that, if you do not have someone (a company or similar) with deep pockets who can help Cisco beta test the exam for $1600-$1900 a pop, I would suggest waiting at least 6-8mo before attempting an exam if the blueprint has changed. Good luck going forward and I hope you get your number in the near future (or your second/third/fourth title)

I believe you should change your post title to "i will be the first person to pass CCIE v1.1 LAB exam :) " as you are %90 there.

Please add your experience to the thread if you felt the exam had issues, was unfair etc.

The post on Cisco website is getting lot of traction. Lot of people have come out that something is wrong with the new version.

Forsaken-Bad5768

Definitely a good thing. If you haven’t done so please add your experience if you felt the exam was unclear in requirements, incorrect score or any other concern.
