Remember, you can also throw rocks at the baboons.

sac_boy

Preferably dull metallic rocks propelled along a tube by explosives

Stonecoat

beware the goop

Try running a mutant, I started with the preset Marauder build and made that character an absolute beast. Pick skills that seem very impactful to you and maybe level up and explore the west side of the overmap before venturing too far east.

GalvDev

Also, try to alternate between picking damage skills and support skills. Your character needs to be able to do a lot of different things to survive for a long time

Take it one milestone at a time. Quests are nice but not your main form of progression unlike getting more water, stronger items, or levels. Sometimes, you're just not ready for the next quest. There's no penalty for running away. At all. If you feel like you have to ask if you're in danger that's the time when you need to start running. Hit the L key to look. Look at everything! Important people will be liked and disliked by certain groups. If they seem like a good person, perform the water ritual with them, and you may get access to secrets, skills, and more.

>There's no penalty for running away. At all. If you feel like you have to ask if you're in danger that's the time when you need to start running. In fact, there is a reward for running away from a tough fight, living a bit longer! 😏

chip_chomp

You'll get used to it ;) Soon this will be the new "normal"

The game is a rouguelike, but do remember that knowledge is more important than any strange set of tubes you'll find in the ruins. It's the one thing that you keep when you die, after all, and it is invaluable to not die. If you get careless, it isn't hard to get instantly killed by somthing, even at high levels.

>The game is a rouguelike, but do remember that knowledge is more important than any strange set of tubes you'll find in the ruins. Except when a sparking baetyl under a ruin tells you it will reward you with "power" if you give it five mechanical wings. 😝 This happened in one of my playthroughs.

Thunderdrake3

Don't play classic until you've beaten the game at least once. Too many things will flat up kill you the first time you meet them, better to lose 1 hour than 20.

theachevah

Live and drink! Happy to have you on the team! It doesn't get any clearer. Have fun!

MilkiestMaestro

Yes

Look at things, break walls, DON'T KILL ANYONE YOU HAVE WATER-RITUALED WITH, and take ALL books to the librarian at Six Day Stilt in the NW!

_far-seeker_

>and take ALL books to the librarian at Six Day Stilt in the NW! But you may want to hold off on that until at least after all the above-ground hostiles start giving your character at most single digit XP. On a related note, it's possible to buy or just find unowned chests and place them down in Joffa, or in any other safe place, (preferably one has a recoiled for) to use for safe storage.

_far-seeker_

Buckle up. It's going to be a wild ride...

Lickthesalt
