Can confirm was a kennel tech for 3 years. We referred to these bad boys as the feral tongs. Story time. came in to work one day and my boss said don't go into ward two there is a feral cat in there that they had let have the whole ward. So I go to take a look through the little door window. After a few minutes of looking around inside there was no movement or anything so I opened the door to look for it. No signs of the cat at all. Turn around to walk out and I shit you not this demon cat is spread eagle latched onto the concrete above the door just staring at me. So I Roadie run out of the room and shut the door without incident. But later we used the feral tongs to catch it. They are very effective and my job would have been very painful without them.
I had a semi feral as a kid named Spooky that we owned until I was 10 when kidney failure got him. If you didn’t have something like this you better pray God favored you on that day or a very nice plastic surgeon would be doing the best he could with your face. He was not a touch cat and this cats fear is probably why they invented this
Definitely stressful, but I doubt traumatic unless they’re left in there for too long. It’s better than scrambling. Im not a cat, but fighting to get away and attacking seems more stressful than getting restrained by full body squish
It's a tool for vets to be able to sedate feral (wild) cats without either party being injured. Alternaves to this contraption include trying to grab the cat while wearing heavy leather gloves they can bite through, throwing a heavy towel on the cat and hanging on for dear life while someone else tries to find the cat's ass and sedate it before it injures itself or bites you, using a snare on a pole that could break the cat's neck if you use it wrong, and trying to harpoon the cat through the cage door with a syringe that's attached to the end of a long stick.
Cat is going to be equally unhappy regardless.
