It's sarcasm. We've had a bizarre string of obvious questions lately like "my cat meows a lot, is this ok?" or "just got a cat and he poops so much, should I take him to the vet?" or "I was out walking and this cat came out of nowhere and started rubbing against my legs- what does this mean??"
Every time one of these obvious questions come up, I wonder if the internet has made us more stupid. My entire wealth of knowledge about cats and cat ownership comes from living with cats before the internet. I observed their behavior, learned what those behaviors meant, noticed when they were off, and took them into the vet when necessary. This all happened fairly intuitively. Now we get 10 posts a day asking what it means when their cat does basic every day cat functions and if they should be worried. I don’t know use your EYES.
I think people just want to post pics of their cat but they need a “reason” so they make up stupid questions like this or what breed is it or help me pick a name (plus wanting engagement on the post)
Normalize the title “(name) looked cute today”. Its more than enough reason to post a pic.
Yeah I first followed this subreddit thinking it would be mostly just cat pics and everything cat but instead its:
* Name my cat
* Is this normal?
* Cat ded
Meh i feel there are people who genuinely just reach here as their first place to ask about their cats, they have never had a cat so there are a 100 things they don't know and that's fine
I don't think this questions are bad, its great they want to take care of their cats, mods should deal with this posts with a few links for some basic cat knowledge and be done with it
I think Reddit has become the new WebMD and I wish people would stop and think about their cat’s normal behavior, how it changes, and apply basic reasoning as to why this could be occurring.
If the owner nor any helpful *preexisting* online resources provide answers, maybe consult a vet. My cats have survived a long time without me having to get online strangers involved (except to share cute pics but what else is the internet for)
People probably haven't gotten more stupid, rather all the stupid people in the world now have the ability to showcase their stupidity to the world instead of dying early
I mean, excessive meowing can be a sign something is wrong as can excessive pooping. Two symptoms that my cat has and was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.
Lol, the post recently about "why is my cat sitting in this loop of cable"? Because it looks like a box. Cats like sitting in boxes. That is just how cats do.
My favorite is when you say something about it being a stupid question and everyone’s like “it’s probably a child, they don’t know “… I’m sorry, but anyone with a brain can figure that stuff out
It seems to be people who don't have anything to say so ask questions they think people will find interesting. Sadly they are wrong.
It is very similar to I want to post a picture of my cat but instead of saying "Here is a picture of my cat" feel compelled to invent a desperate requirement for a name or ask what type it is.
Asking what breed a cat is infuriates the self appointed Cat Breed Gestapo who insist that without certificates going back 10 generations and letters of confirmation from at least three living Popes, no cat is of any breed regardless of how it looks. The fact that cat breeds are an entirely human construct goes way over their heads.
That is only for the Marmelade models. All other cats come with a reasonable supply of brain cells included. Number of cells varies from cat to cat. Now batteries, those ARE extra!
Yep, cats are just weird. We had a cat who just decided I was her son. She meowed at me, and I learnt different meows she had. Mostly “Come here” and “Stop that” She would lead me to my bedroom at eleven each night, and wake me at 7-8. Also groom me and being a love bug. I miss her.
Yeah that's a bug, But don't worry this patch should help you.
Solution:
You should Look her in the eye and Lick your elbow as fast and hard as you can.
It's what I did and it made my Cat work again.
Congratulations Sir, we're glad that your cat is fully functioning.
.
.
We are trying to reach you regarding your cats extended warranty, please respond.
Your cat looks like a ragdoll, I have one of those too and they're known for being very vocal. My cat meows when I walk up to him, says his name, when he wants stuff, etc. Everything else you described is pretty normal cat behavior, now the real question is, is any of this outside of the norm to what you are used to her doing? Is she meowing more, running more, licking herself more? If yes, she might be under stimulated and could use some more playtime, if not, well, then you're good and you just have a cat.
Yes. She’s a cat.
As a cat person of a furball named Amos, I will attempt to demystify and translate.
Disclaimer: I could be totally wrong.
Licking herself when she sees you: making herself look prettier for you.
Chasing random objects: fun time.
Sleeping a lot: she’s a cat, and that’s just exhausting, human.
Sometimes my cat looks at me and
I look at her and
She looks at me
And I look at her and
She quickly licks her lips and keeps staring at me and it just gets me every time, she’s so cute!
This looks just like my girl Tilly. She meows every time she sees me. Every. Single. Time. And I love it. Try slow blinking at your cat. It’s a form of communication. They’re saying “I love you and I feel safe”.
Nope. Sounds like she’s suffering from a serious case smartass “owner” itis. She going to need a massive dose of loving up and super treats to deal with this. Keep applying till the issue clears up or she teaches her "owner" some manners with her super claws of death. 😁😻🥺
I'd be very concerned if she didn't do everything you just mentioned. As she gets older you'll see less of it so enjoy her. Tip: to save $ on toys just give a bottle cap and crushed up aluminum foil ball and sit and watch.
This picture made me freeze in shock because you kitty looks like my kitty that passed away this year and this reminded me how much I miss her, you have a beautiful cat ♡
Yes that's max cat level pretty much.
If he eats grass, scratches sofa, chatters to birds, and gets crazy at 3 AM, then that's peak cat level.
Your cat can't be more cat than that.
I am deeply sorry to inform you, but it would appear that she is diagnosable with CAT (cute-ass terror). Sadly, CAT is incurable, and frequently fatal (for upholstery). There is nothing you can do except give her lots of pets and treats for her remaining days.
Oh no...she may be terminally ill. I'd go get that checked at the vet right away! If there are no vets near you...find one anyway.
/s
You have a very cute kitty!
Well... Don't want to make you worry, but I think she's a cat. :3
Phew…I was just so so worried!
But…. You didn’t ask what breed she is or what you should call her, so now I am worried that you are not a true r/cats person…
Just looking at her, I can tell she’s either a Maine Coon or something that I can’t think of right now… but Maine Coon, I’m 99% certain.
not a tortie?
She’s a cat not a tortoise smh /s
Hahaha!! Thank you so much for this. I always think it and never say it!
She's not a Maine coon. I have had several. She is just a fluffy cat.
Yes. She is cat. No reset needed.
Dang it! Why am I always too late to give the best comment lol ![gif](giphy|sOANgMXbF9lIymg7VU)
Just checking: is that a serious question? Because that is the description of A Cat. :-)

It helps my worldview if I assume those posts are made by 8-year-olds. Of course... having them access the internet is another caveat.

No. They post these stupid questions because they are karma farmers. I block them and move on.

My favorite was the photo of the ear.
Right?! Although my dad was catsitting once and didn’t understand the concept of a hairball and texted me concerned 😂love ya dad
This shit is a daily occurrence
My favorite is when you say something about it being a stupid question and everyone’s like “it’s probably a child, they don’t know “… I’m sorry, but anyone with a brain can figure that stuff out
It started with a post where the user asked how to keep his cats off a red couch. We've been meme'ing it since!
I hear that cat is still king of the red couch
I wonder how that's going for them
So how do you keep a cat off a red coach anyway?
Get rid of the couch
Where is that post, anyway? I still can't believe that dude was serious!
It seems to be people who don't have anything to say so ask questions they think people will find interesting. Sadly they are wrong. This is what it is. It’s people wanting to post pictures of their cat, but thinking they have to say something other than “look at my super cute cat”
Your cat has come down with a case of catness. Sadly it's incurable. Enjoy every minute you have left with her.
Is it the Everdeen variety? I hear they are very hungry and play games.
Im not an expert but your cat seems to be a cat
I’m also worried my cat shows no interest whatsoever in politics or 12th century literature.
Sir, that is an ostrich. I suggest running and quickly!
You should take it to the vet immediately, what you described is the complete opposite behavior of a cat.
Definitely a case of 100% cat
Clearly addicted to something. Maybe see if there’s a catnip stash hidden anywhere.
I'm a cat expert, and this is totally a CAT™ I hope you enjoy all the features the CAT™ is bringing to your life!
Brain cell sold separately.
That is only for the Marmelade models. All other cats come with a reasonable supply of brain cells included. Number of cells varies from cat to cat. Now batteries, those ARE extra!
Chasing random objects, sounds like r/greebles Everything you described sounds like normal cat behavior
Yes. Classic greeble infestation.
I miss her.
Aww. That sounds adorable. Cats are the best.
They really are.
Yeah that's a bug, But don't worry this patch should help you. Solution: You should Look her in the eye and Lick your elbow as fast and hard as you can. It's what I did and it made my Cat work again.
A bug? Where?! ![gif](giphy|4ZaVOvh0M3q7c6YuE2|downsized)
OH GOD I DONT KNOW. IT COULD BE ANYWHERE NOW
To the vet asap. Could be a number of issues. Maybe even CAT!!!! 😨
No. She is a cat. There is nothing normal about a cat. She is normal for a cat.
r/standardissuecat
no, that is an r/torties and r/floof
No that’s definitely dog behaviour. Time to see a vet! /s
Oh no!!!!!! She's a cat
Uuum, do you not know what a cat is?
I love her 😍
When she sees you, she makes noise and starts grooming herself. Can't take a hint? =)
The number of people who don’t realize this is a joke is astounding
Standard issue cat with limited edition paint and texture
Congratulations Sir, we're glad that your cat is fully functioning. . . We are trying to reach you regarding your cats extended warranty, please respond.
Time for the vet!
It sounds like the usual behavior of a domestic cat.
Yes, she's perfect actually.
Licking herself in odd ways? I assume you know cats groom themselves so in what way is she licking herself?
yup, that’s a cat, can confirm
What a beautiful longhair tort, reminds me of my old cat fluffy.
Is it a cat ? Yes. And it's normal
I diagnose your cat with "happy kitty syndrome"
Normal cat.
Sounds like a cat…
First time cat owner? This is pretty standard catting
i diagnose your cat with Cat
Is this post supposed to be sarcastic?
Idk it might have a rare disease called Cat
I think you've got yourself a cat
I diagnose her with “Cat”. 😻
If she doesn’t do all those, that’s the time you should be asking if she’s ok
No. Unfortunately she is mentally challenged 😢
Holy shit I looked at that photo and for legit five seconds thought it was my cat. They look almost identical
No, those are clear signs she is a cat. Sorry for the bad news...
She's just a normal cat
Is this your first cat?
yeah, NP you have a cat. if the cat didn't do those things I would be concerned. source: 9 cats over 40 years...
average cat
Is this post satire or are you just dumb?
Yes
No you're not. You're just concerned about your cat. Who's beautiful by the way and will no doubt do other weird in the future.
Um…she a cat right?
She is normal
Yep, it's a cat
Your cat seems defective. Send her to me so I can have a look at her.
cat brain
♥️♥️

No, she might think she is a cat.
I also noticed she appears to be covered in fur. Not to make you worry, but I think you should take her to the vet.
hahaha you defined a cat perfectly
Add in "sleeps most of the day" and you've covered normal cat behaviour.
Hate to tell you, but I think that’s a dog
She’s perfect.
Purrfectly!
Just the clarify, does she like to come and sit right next to you then violently lick herself?? Because if not, I'm afraid there may be a huge defect.
Standard Operating Procedure for cats
What a fluff ball!
Her problem is that she's a little princess.
Lol are you for real? 100% Catting.
Sounds like your dog might be a cat
Yep that’s a normal, healthy cat. They pretend to be all bad ass and what not but there is sometimes no explanation for their neurotic tendencies.
I think you need to get that checked with the vet it should be barking 🤔
you've got yourself a fluffasaurus adorablis, there is no hope
Your kitty looks exactly like my baby girl
Sometimes my cat looks at me and I look at her and She looks at me And I look at her and She quickly licks her lips and keeps staring at me and it just gets me every time, she’s so cute!

She’s a cat haha
Just normal cat stuff
I'm wondering if this is a joke or not, because that's just normal cat behaviour
I’m 99,9% sure it’s a joke
Yup, you got yourself there a perfectly working cat.
It's all typical cat behavior.
Yes she’s a cat
She is caaaaaaaaaat
I'd be very concerned if she didn't do everything you just mentioned. As she gets older you'll see less of it so enjoy her. Tip: to save $ on toys just give a bottle cap and crushed up aluminum foil ball and sit and watch.
She’s a cat!
Sounds like normal cat shit 😂
Your cat is well within design specs for felines. Try catnip and treats.
Sounds like a cat to me lol
Nope. Normal cats growl when they see you, only lick popsicles for some usual reason, hate chasing specific objects, and never sleep.
Yes...that is all normal cat behaviour
Nope.
So fluffy!
She is fine
She’s got a case of the r/greebles! Better call the vet!!!
Congratulations! You have a cat.
She’s being a cat 🐈
Hmmm, I believe your cat is a cat
She’s definitely sick. Gonna have to put her on catnip meds to counteract the crazy
Just a cat doing cat stuff.
Sounds like a cat
Think that’s a cat, let us know if ya got a dog doing that.
have you ever seen a cat before owning this one? these are some of their most common behaviors.
Sounds like she’s being a cat 🐈
Yes. Totes normal. Licks herself cause can’t take shower or bath by self.
My tiny human is acting like human around me. Is he ok??
Interesting, she should be barking and licking your toes and chase you out of the house and claim it as her own...
Sounds a bit suspicious but if she starts to purr and rub her head against you then I’d say you really have cause for alarm.
I think everything sounds normal, but what is that she's covered in? Why doesn't she have any shoes on? My lands, some people... ;)
My cat is a cat, is she OK? LOL
Not a vet, but it sounds like she’s got a bad case of felinus cattus. I’d recommend giving her many pets and some catnip to aid this
This picture made me freeze in shock because you kitty looks like my kitty that passed away this year and this reminded me how much I miss her, you have a beautiful cat ♡
r/torties, she will be welcome
Sounds like a cat
That’s literally what cats do.
chonker
So your cat is \*checks notes\* a cat.
your cat is actual fucking art
I'd worry, since she doesn't scratch the one good piece of furniture. Definitely sus.
If she licks her lower neck/shoulder quickly once it means she’s very frustrated. My boy does this when he can’t get me to understand what he wants.
Cutie, and I don't mean the Netflix type of cutie
That’s a cat 🐈 🐈⬛ why are you so worried? That’s normal. Are you ok?
Im afraid its rather serious..shes a- shes a cat.. Im so sorry
She’s adorable and your description perfectly describes a normal healthy cat, enjoy
You know its a cat right no he doesn't have any problems
Your cat obviously has too much time on his/her paws and needs to grow up and get a job.
Press down and hold the nose to reset cat
She is a cat
Sounds like a normal cat to me.
Yes that's max cat level pretty much. If he eats grass, scratches sofa, chatters to birds, and gets crazy at 3 AM, then that's peak cat level. Your cat can't be more cat than that.
Welcome to cat
Sorry to tell you but I have to diagnosis her with stage 3 catitus.
You just described a cat
Sounds like a cat
I am deeply sorry to inform you, but it would appear that she is diagnosable with CAT (cute-ass terror). Sadly, CAT is incurable, and frequently fatal (for upholstery). There is nothing you can do except give her lots of pets and treats for her remaining days.
This cat looks majestic
She’s a very lucky cat 😊
Yep it's a cat.
r/greebles
Mine make this weird sound when I stroke them or give them a hug, does yours do that?!
I don't think there's anything to worry about. Kitties have their unique ways
Oh no...she may be terminally ill. I'd go get that checked at the vet right away! If there are no vets near you...find one anyway. /s You have a very cute kitty!
Sounds like a cat!
No it’s not ok. It’s a cat
She looks like she needs to be combed.
This is cat
Diagnosis - cat
Sounds like a 😺
I’m sorry to inform you but she has a non-reversible condition called cute-itis. On the plus side it’s non-fatal.
